Why Suffer for This Distress (GL) - Chapter 20
He Jingmo’s smile froze on her face. Unable to restrain her anger, she reached out and fiercely pinched Su Xiyan’s waist. “Lie, go on and lie. Let’s see how long you can keep it up.”
“Ow! That hurts! What am I lying about?” Su Xiyan gasped in pain. She grabbed He Jingmo’s mischievous hand and looked at her. “Am I wrong? Older men are not only ugly, but there’s a generation gap with you in every aspect, and their performance in that area must be terrible, so they can’t give you a ‘sexually’ fulfilling life.”
“I’ll teach you to talk nonsense!” He Jingmo, both embarrassed and angry, leaned forward and twisted Su Xiyan’s face. Su Xiyan grimaced in pain but did not beg for mercy or admit defeat as she usually did. She stubbornly endured the pain, looking at He Jingmo, her lips bitten in a pitiful expression. That moist gaze finally made He Jingmo’s heart crumble. She sighed and released her hand.
Turning around, He Jingmo burrowed into the quilt, leaving her back to Su Xiyan. She can’t be bothered to waste any more breath communicating with this kind of person. Su Xiyan touched her face, which was throbbing from the pinch, feeling very low. She hadn’t even met the man yet, and just because she said a few bad things about Wei Ning, her attitude had become this nasty. What will happen when they actually meet and talk? No wonder everyone says that in the face of love, friendship is like a piece of paper that tears with a single poke! He Jingmo, you value romance over friendship! Su Xiyan angrily waved her hand at He Jingmo and lay down as well. Only this time, she didn’t give up. She straddled the quilt, back-to-back with He Jingmo, and neither of them spoke to the other.
In just ten minutes, a steady breathing sound came from Su Xiyan’s side, and her taut body gradually relaxed. He Jingmo sighed, turned around, painstakingly pulled the quilt out from under Su Xiyan’s leg, and tucked her in. In a daze, Su Xiyan murmured and habitually rolled into He Jingmo’s arms. He Jingmo held her tight, stared at her quietly for a while, turned off the light, kissed her forehead, and drifted off to sleep.
The next day, He Jingmo woke up very early. After making breakfast, she dragged Su Xiyan out of the covers.
“I’m sleepy!” Su Xiyan was a heavy sleeper with a bad temper, and coupled with her bad mood, her attitude was terrible. He Jingmo ignored her, picked up the pillow, and smacked her butt. “Get up now! Look at the time! Aren’t you going to work?”
“I’m the boss. Who dares to say I’m late?” Su Xiyan glared and acted like a brat. She was provoked by He Jingmo’s outfit. Where is she going so dressed up this early in the morning? The light green long dress was elegant yet flavorful. The sheer fabric felt cool and comfortable against her skin. The cinched waist design accentuated He Jingmo’s already fine figure, giving her even more beautiful curves. Her long hair was like a waterfall, covering her fair neck, and her delicate collarbone made one feel the urge to kiss it. She had obviously put effort into her appearance. He Jingmo’s expression was calm as she looked at her. “Then, President Su, you should sleep well.”
Turning around, He Jingmo was about to leave. Su Xiyan kicked out a leg, blocking her waist, her expression quite exasperated.
“Where are you going?”
“Why do you care? I’m not an employee of President Su.” He Jingmo spoke in the same tone Su Xiyan had used earlier. Su Xiyan was fuming. “Dressed up like a tree demon! You’re still going to see that old man, right?”
He Jingmo rolled her eyes, pushed away the leg blocking her waist, and frowned. “Look at yourself. What do you look like?”
Su Xiyan, with her messy hair, wearing pajamas, and an unwashed face, truly had the potential to be a shrew. She couldn’t care less and wasn’t in the mood to argue with He Jingmo, so her face hardened.
The atmosphere between the two instantly froze.
In the past, when they argued, this expression usually meant she was genuinely angry. He Jingmo stared at her for a while, shook her head, and walked out of the bedroom. This person, still acting up even now. Is it useful?
As soon as the door closed, the angry President Su inside the room vanished. Su Xiyan leaped out of bed. Ignoring her messy hair and bare feet, she grabbed the cell phone on the table and called her Intelligence Manager.
“Hello, right now, immediately find Little Zhang from the Security Department to drive and stake out downstairs of my apartment. Follow He Jingmo closely, and find out where she goes, understood? Report immediately if there’s any situation!”
“President Su, speak slowly, please. I just woke up and didn’t hear clearly. Are you asking me to stalk Miss He?”
“What stalk? I told you to follow her!”
“…Understood.”
Hanging up the phone, Su Xiyan held her phone and thought for a long time. She bit her lip and went into the adjacent bathroom to shower. Don’t panic, Su Xiyan, absolutely do not panic. Jingmo still needs you to rescue her from a mountain of knives and a sea of fire. You can’t collapse now. If you collapse, she will really be stolen away by that old man!
In the living room, He Jingmo sat on the sofa, feeling perplexed and wronged, waiting for Su Xiyan for a full ten minutes. Doesn’t this person know to come out and stop her with tears and pleas? Is she really pushing me out the door?
Looking at her watch, He Jingmo took a deep breath, stood up, and decided to count to ten silently. If Su Xiyan didn’t come out by then, she would truly leave.
By the time He Jingmo silently counted to one thousand, Su Xiyan in the bathroom was busy lathering soap on her body with a bath scrub, completely unaware of the situation outside.
Disheartened, He Jingmo couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer. She picked up her bag, glanced at the bedroom, gritted her teeth, and walked out the door.
Her mood was terrible all the way. He Jingmo drove, looking out at the slightly rainy weather, sighing occasionally. What is that idiot thinking? She had been fighting fiercely last night and then fell asleep in a blink. This morning, she blocked her like a shrew, preventing her from leaving, and then, in a blink, she went into the bathroom to shower and sing merrily. What on earth is going on in her head?
No matter how bad her mood was, He Jingmo still arrived at the coffee shop as promised. Pushing the door open, He Jingmo slowly walked in. She glanced inside, and Wei Ning was already waiting there.
“Miss He.”
Wei Ning stood up, smiling as he looked at her. He gentlemanly pulled out the chair opposite him. He Jingmo looked at him. His features were refined, like the light of a bright moon, emanating a sense of cool composure. Wearing a simple knit shirt and jeans, he looked like a fine sculpture, pleasing to the eye and impossible to dislike.
“Thank you.” He Jingmo gave a polite smile, smoothed her dress, and sat down. Wei Ning looked at her, his eyes filled with appreciation and admiration.
“Ranran is always mentioning you to me.” Wei Ning was not unfamiliar with He Jingmo. During college, he, He Ranran, and Su Nan were the “Iron Triangle,” and He Ranran talked about her sister constantly. Now that two of the Iron Triangle were married, He Ranran’s nature would not allow her to enjoy life alone, which led to today’s meeting between the two.
Sipping her latte, He Jingmo’s mouth curved into a faint smile. This was Su Xiyan’s favorite coffee. At home, she would hide it whenever she could, hoping she wouldn’t drink this unhealthy stuff. But Su Xiyan had a dog’s nose. No matter when or where she hid it, she could accurately find what she wanted, which often annoyed He Jingmo.
Wei Ning saw He Jingmo’s expression and smiled understandingly. “Miss He, do you have someone you like?”
“Call me Jingmo. Given your relationship with my sister, there’s no need to be so formal.” He Jingmo’s impression of Wei Ning significantly improved because of this single sentence. Wei Ning nodded, still smiling. Undeniably, the man in front of her was well-mannered and charming.
“Yes, I do have someone I like.” Since she didn’t plan to see Wei Ning again, He Jingmo was straightforward. She gently swirled the cup in her hand and sighed softly. “Even you can tell at a glance, why doesn’t she know?”
“The people involved are always confused.” Wei Ning said, looking into He Jingmo’s eyes. He Jingmo smiled and looked at him. “I’m sorry.”
“Heh, actually, I guessed it a long time ago.” Wei Ning naturally understood what He Jingmo’s “sorry” meant. He Jingmo was stunned and looked at him. “Guessed it?”
Wei Ning nodded. “Someone as excellent as you being single until now must mean there is someone in your heart.”
He Jingmo appreciated Wei Ning’s intelligence. She smiled and looked at him. “Presumably, the same is true for you.”
Wei Ning nodded with a sigh, his eyes somewhat dim. “It was only a few chance encounters, so I’m probably not as lucky as Jingmo.”
Perhaps it was the sympathy of two people in a similar situation, or perhaps they shared common interests, but the two continued to chat well. This led to the scene that Su Xiyan saw when she pushed open the door: a happy picture of a talented man and a beautiful woman chatting and laughing. He Jingmo’s angle didn’t allow her to see Su Xiyan behind her, but Wei Ning spotted her. He looked at Su Xiyan, completely stunned, his mouth open, unable to speak. Su Xiyan was wearing a long black dress, her hair like silk draped over her neck, her skin snow-white. She was clearly in a terrible mood, her brows tightly knitted together. Her long, curved black eyelashes trembled slightly. Her nose bridge was straight and delicate, and her beautifully curved soft lips were pressed together. Her complexion was somewhat pale. She stared at the two of them unblinkingly, her eyes practically shooting fire.
