Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The Aftermath of the Attack
Mu Yang walked out of his room. He had been waiting all night for Mu Nan to return and came running out when he heard the doorbell. He opened the door and saw Mu Nan sitting on the ground, with a girl standing beside her. The girl’s head was bowed, her entire face obscured by the darkness, making it impossible to see her expression clearly. He took two steps forward. “Mu Nan?”
Xu Liangchen helped him lift Mu Nan, explaining, “We encountered something on the way back. She was scared unconscious.” Mu Yang frowned. What kind of incident could scare Mu Nan, who was usually fearless, unconscious? As they entered the house, he finally got a look at Xu Liangchen.
First, he noticed her eyes—phoenix eyes. When she looked at him, her gaze was cool and distant, without any warmth. Her whole demeanor radiated a “do not approach” signal. Her features were sharp as blades, and her presence was chilling. She was truly like a walking iceberg. Although she was much prettier than most girls, she was still a beautiful iceberg. He shifted his gaze downwards; her lips were tightly pursed, a stubborn defiance radiating from her.
The two brought Mu Nan to her room. Mu Yang walked out with Xu Liangchen. “Thank you.” Xu Liangchen shook her head. “It was on my way.” Mu Yang walked to the coffee table and poured her a glass of water. “Have some water.” Xu Liangchen took it and looked around.
Mu Yang’s gaze swept back and forth across her face. He blinked. “You must be Xu Liangchen, right?” Xu Liangchen put down the water glass, a slight smile in her eyes, as if the iceberg had suddenly been touched by July sunshine and begun to melt. “Mm.” She was already beautiful without smiling, but with a smile, she was truly captivating. Even though Mu Yang had seen countless beauties, he couldn’t help but inwardly marvel at her beauty! Seeing Mu Yang a little lost in thought, Xu Liangchen quickly composed herself.
Mu Yang coughed, looked towards his sister’s room, and shook his head with a chuckle. “It seems Mu Nan was telling the truth. You’ve transferred to No. 3 High School.”
Xu Liangchen’s steps, which had been about to leave, paused, and her body stiffened slightly. Her tone held an almost imperceptible cautiousness. “She… mentioned me?” Mu Yang hummed. “Yes, she was very happy.” Xu Liangchen’s lips curved slightly, lost in thought. “I’ll be going now.”
Mu Yang, a little worried, advised, “It’s so late. Why don’t you squeeze in with Mu Nan tonight?” Xu Liangchen swallowed, her body feeling a little hot, remembering her fingers brushing against Mu Nan’s skin earlier. It was still that familiar sensation from her memories; she had even mischievously touched her earlobe and could feel Mu Nan’s body instinctively tremble. Xu Liangchen knew every sensitive spot on her. If she were to indeed share a bed with her tonight, she feared she wouldn’t know what she might do. “No, I’ll head back now.” Mu Yang saw her firm attitude and didn’t try to persuade her further. He helped open the door and carefully cautioned, “Go back slowly.” Xu Liangchen nodded and walked out. Her single-shoulder bag still hung on one shoulder, her figure appearing slender from behind.
This girl… was very different from how she was in his memory.
…
A Frightening Dream and a Brother’s Concern
The next day, Mu Nan woke up early, startled by a nightmare. Mu Yang heard the sound and quickly ran into her bedroom. “What’s wrong?” It wasn’t even 5:30 AM yet; the sky was just barely beginning to lighten. Mu Nan opened her sleepy eyes and looked at Mu Yang. “Brother, how did I get back yesterday?” She vaguely remembered lying on Xu Liangchen’s back, and what else did she say? It seemed she didn’t say anything at all… She just fell asleep like that!
Mu Yang glared at her, annoyed. “What happened last night?” Mu Nan briefly recounted the events of last night. Mu Yang, however, frowned. He had been studying for so many years and walked that small alley for so long. He had never encountered such an incident before. And judging by Mu Nan’s description, Xu Liangchen knew those people. Could it have been aimed at Xu Liangchen? Mu Yang shared his conjecture with Mu Nan, but Mu Nan shook her head. “I don’t know.” “In any case, be careful during this time.”
Mu Yang thought of the slender girl he saw yesterday and felt particularly uneasy. “Forget it, I’ll pick you up from school after class.” Mu Nan shook her head vigorously. “No need, Brother. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Besides, that man was beaten down by Xu Liangchen; he probably won’t come again.” Mu Yang sighed, looking at the naive Mu Nan. This little girl had no idea what a man’s pride was. It was far more important than life itself!
Mu Nan prepared to get out of bed to take a bath. She was still a little unsettled by everything that happened last night. She went into the bathroom and saw her eyes were a bit red and swollen. Had she cried in her sleep? She brushed her teeth while running water into the bathtub. Soon, she was fully submerged. Mu Yang came to knock on the door. “Are you done? Why are you bathing so early in the morning?” Mu Nan was scrubbing her arm, replying, “To wash away the bad luck!” From the door, Mu Yang could only go back to the kitchen and start making breakfast. He made two poached eggs and took out noodles from the refrigerator. Soon, two bowls of clear noodle soup were ready, garnished with scallions, smelling incredibly fragrant. Mu Nan could smell the aroma even in the shower. Her stomach rumbled. She quickly rinsed off the foam and walked out in her pajamas. “You’re truly the best brother!” Mu Yang glared at her, annoyed. “Flatterer!”
…
The Alley Revisited and a Stern Warning
After eating, they prepared to go to school together. After last night’s incident, Mu Yang didn’t dare let Mu Nan walk alone, so he pulled out his bicycle, which he hadn’t used in a long time. Mu Nan didn’t resist and sat on the back of Mu Yang’s bicycle.
The day was already bright, with people coming and going. Mu Nan saw they were nearing the small alley. She looked inside with some trepidation; silver steel pipes were still scattered haphazardly. There was a patch of bl00d on the ground, not very noticeable, already turned brown. Mu Nan felt her throat tighten. She hadn’t seen any injuries on Xu Liangchen last night; she wondered if she had missed something.
They arrived at school just in time for morning self-study. She scurried into the classroom, her heart fluttering nervously, unsure what she was worried about. It wasn’t until she saw Xu Liangchen sitting primly in her seat that she smiled brightly. The worry that had been hanging over her suddenly lifted. The person was sitting ramrod straight, head bowed, reading. Mu Nan’s relieved heart instantly came alive again, beating even more intensely than before. She walked over and looked at Xu Liangchen. “Morning!”
Xu Liangchen tilted her head to look at her, her eyes gentle, her voice faint. “Morning.” Mu Nan took out snacks from her bag and offered them to Xu Liangchen. “Did you have breakfast? Want some?” Xu Liangchen placed the snacks on her desk. “No need, thank you.” Mu Nan looked a little dejected. “Oh…”
Morning self-study proceeded as usual, with Xu Liangchen being called upon to lead the reading. Mu Nan was still completely bewildered by it. Just as she was about to doze off, Xu Liangchen pinched her arm. Mu Nan immediately woke up, glaring at Xu Liangchen through gritted teeth.
After morning self-study, Mu Nan returned from the restroom and saw Zhao Shi waiting nearby. She scratched her head. “Morning…” Zhao Shi’s expression wasn’t good; he remained silent. Mu Nan felt a little awkward, wanting to walk past him, but he followed her steps. “You…” Zhao Shi’s voice was faint. “Why didn’t you come yesterday?” “I waited for you for a long time.” Mu Nan felt inexplicably awkward hearing this. She twiddled her fingers and explained to Zhao Shi, “I had something to do.” Zhao Shi wasn’t giving up, continuing to ask, “Then tonight…” Mu Nan refused directly, speaking quickly, “I also have something to do tonight!” Seeing that Zhao Shi was still persistent, Mu Nan simply closed her eyes and said, “Zhao Shi, to be honest with you, I don’t have any feelings for you at all, so don’t waste your time on me.”
A few classmates nearby were pointing and whispering. Mu Nan felt a little embarrassed, lowered her head, and tried to walk past, but Zhao Shi just wouldn’t let her. Just as Mu Nan was about to say something more, a girl’s voice came from behind Zhao Shi. “Excuse me.” The voice was faint and even, without any emotional fluctuation. But Zhao Shi still unconsciously moved aside. Mu Nan quickly darted past Zhao Shi. Zhao Shi saw her go back and was about to turn to follow when he heard Xu Liangchen call out, “Zhao Shi.”
Zhao Shi stopped, not turning around. Xu Liangchen stood beside him, not much shorter than him. He lowered his head just as he saw her look up, the coldness in her phoenix eyes deepening. She just stared at him fixedly, as if seeing through all his dirty little thoughts. Zhao Shi felt completely uncomfortable under her gaze and couldn’t help but ask, “What is it?” Xu Liangchen lowered her head, her lips tightly pursed, and when she spoke again, her voice was cold as frost.
“Everything in moderation.”
“Don’t play with fire.”
Zhao Shi was stunned by what she said. When he wanted to ask more, he saw she had already gone to the restroom. Did she know something…?
