Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The Aftermath of the Warning and a Confession
Zhao Shi returned to the classroom, frequently looking in Mu Nan’s direction. He couldn’t help but recall Xu Liangchen’s words. If she knew something, did Mu Nan also know something? But judging by Mu Nan’s reaction, she seemed completely oblivious. He had, of course, been there last night, but he never expected Xu Liangchen to be able to handle those thugs. The thought made him clench his fists. Not only had his objective not been achieved, but he also had to clean up the mess, paying for those guys’ medical expenses. Thinking about this, his gaze towards Mu Nan deepened even more.
Chen Jiao had been watching Zhao Shi. She thought Zhao Shi looked better and better the more she looked at him, so deeply devoted. So utterly smitten with Mu Nan, he couldn’t even stop looking at her during a short break between classes. Sigh… A rare good man! She tore a small note from her textbook, wrote something, and threw it to Mu Nan. Mu Nan picked it up, unfolded it, and read: “Mu Nan, darling, were you okay last night?”
Okay? Okay, my foot! Last night almost scared her to death. She glanced in Chen Jiao’s direction, drew a finger across her neck, and made a fierce face. Chen Jiao shivered and lowered her head to seriously read her book.

A Public Rejection and Classroom Drama
Just before class was about to start, there was a commotion at the door. Mu Nan looked up at the noise and saw Xu Liangchen being stopped at the entrance by a boy. Many classmates were watching. Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes fixed on the boy with fierce intensity. The boy stammered, “Pl-please… please accept this.” Students stood around Xu Liangchen, whispering privately. A few troublemakers led by Song Yu chanted, “Accept him! Accept him! Accept him!” Xu Liangchen’s gaze landed on Song Yu, whose face became a bit unnatural, and his voice then grew quieter and quieter. Song Yu shrank back. Why did Xu Liangchen’s gaze remind him so much of his second sister? So terrifying.
With Song Yu no longer leading the ruckus, the remaining few felt a bit awkward to continue the commotion. Xu Liangchen’s gaze returned to the boy. He was quiet and refined, exquisitely delicate. His fair face was flushed crimson, even his exposed arms were slightly reddened. He stared intently at Xu Liangchen, holding out a letter. Xu Liangchen couldn’t help but smile faintly at his nervousness, and the boy’s eyes lit up. Her voice was light and ethereal. “Thank you for the kind offer.” With that, she walked past the boy, not pausing for a moment. The class bell rang just then, and the students dispersed in a hurry. The boy’s face flushed even more, and he left reluctantly.
Mu Nan stood to the side with her arms crossed. Seeing Xu Liangchen enter, she said, “Hey, he’s quite good-looking, with red lips and white teeth. Xu Liangchen, you really don’t like him?” Xu Liangchen tilted her head to look at her. “Do you like him?” Mu Nan followed behind her, strolling leisurely as she said, “No, I don’t…” “I just like ones like you.” “Who can handle the formal halls and the private boudoirs…” After saying this, she looked at Xu Liangchen, a sly smile on her face. Xu Liangchen seemed not to have heard her words, but her tightly clenched fists betrayed her current mood.
…
The Old Fuddy-Duddy and Academic Disparities
When the old fuddy-duddy entered the classroom, he felt the atmosphere was very different. Perhaps the lingering warmth of the recent spectacle remained, and the classroom was noisy. Many eyes were still on Xu Liangchen. Mu Nan could even hear them whispering. “She’s just good-looking, why is she so arrogant?” “Hey, what do you know? She has the right to be arrogant.” One girl scoffed, “What right? She should look at what her family is like.” Mu Nan was very unhappy hearing this and turned to shout, “Why are you gossiping during class?!”
Then, the entire class looked at her, even the old fuddy-duddy’s gaze locked onto her face. Mu Nan’s eyes darted around, she coughed, and then said, “Didn’t you see the teacher here?! I can’t even hear the teacher explain the problems when you’re whispering!” The old fuddy-duddy’s chest, which had been heaving, settled down, but he still glared at Mu Nan. Then he said in a deep voice, “All you do is talk, talk, talk! If you talk again, come up to the podium and talk. I’ll see what you have so much to say about!”
“Song Yu!” Song Yu was called, looking completely bewildered, but still stood up.
“What’s the answer to the third question?” Song Yu pondered for a moment and randomly chose, “D.” Mu Nan, who had already sat down, laughed until her body trembled, almost banging on the table. This old fuddy-duddy was definitely going to get angry again.
Sure enough, the old fuddy-duddy tapped him with his teaching stick, and Song Yu yelled in pain! “Choose D, choose D!” “I’ve already gone to the tenth page, and you’re still on the third page! And you chose D!” Song Yu raised his hand in surrender. The old fuddy-duddy said angrily, “Copy this problem ten times!” Song Yu sat down with a mournful face. It wasn’t until he flipped to the tenth page that he understood why the old fuddy-duddy was so angry; there was no “D” option for the third question. Song Yu really wanted to slap himself. Why choose something so random, and specifically D!
As soon as he sat down, the old fuddy-duddy’s eyes scanned the entire class, then landed on a girl with her head bowed. “Xu Liangchen.” Xu Liangchen looked up and stood. “Solve the fourth problem.” Mu Nan tilted her head, watching Xu Liangchen. When she answered the question, her voice was clean and crisp, and her analysis was well-structured. She not only gave the answer but also explained her thought process. The old fuddy-duddy nodded repeatedly, looking very satisfied with Xu Liangchen. Then he looked at Song Yu and sighed. Sigh… They were both students, but the difference was truly vast.
Mu Nan rested her chin on one hand, her head tilted, just watching Xu Liangchen until Xu Liangchen’s gaze fell on her. “Why are you looking at me like that? Do I have the answer on my face?” Mu Nan sighed and slumped onto her desk like a puddle of mud. “You’re much prettier than the answer.” Xu Liangchen: “…” Her ears felt hot.
…
English Class and the Looming Exam
After math class was the homeroom teacher’s English class. Mu Nan’s English was famously bad; she had never passed a single English exam from junior high until now, which was quite something. Even the teacher sighed that she wasn’t cut out for this subject. So, she always used English class to sleep. But it was different now, because she had a top student sitting next to her. Every time she dozed off, a hand would always reach out to slap her arm. Mu Nan didn’t know how many times she had been woken from her reverie. Just as she was secretly celebrating that Xu Liangchen hadn’t pinched her, a sharp pain shot through her arm. It hurt so much she almost cried out!
“Hey!” Mu Nan also got angry, glaring fiercely at Xu Liangchen. Xu Liangchen looked at her with calm eyes, her tone peaceful. “You must listen to this problem; it will be on the college entrance exam.” Mu Nan lost her temper upon hearing this, but still muttered, “You think you’re the one writing the exam?” Xu Liangchen ignored her, her eyes simply flickering.
As class neared its end, the homeroom teacher announced the mock exam schedule: two days, Friday and Saturday. After the exam, seating would be rearranged based on ranking. Mu Nan knew, of course, that seating would be rearranged in the third year of high school. It was like an inevitable path: good students grouped together, and poor students lumped together. In fact, their class wasn’t even the worst in No. 3 High School. This batch of third-year students was divided into six classes. The top students were all in Class 1, the mediocre ones were in Class 2 and 3, and the remaining three classes were basically full of slackers.
When Xu Liangchen had just transferred and said she was in Class 2, Mu Nan was puzzled. With Xu Liangchen’s grades, she could definitely have gone to Class 1. Thinking this, she turned to ask her deskmate, “Hey, why didn’t you transfer to Class 1?” Xu Liangchen looked at a bird flying outside the window, her eyelids drooping. “It was full.” Mu Nan recalled the number of students in Class 1. Full? Was it…?
Regardless, she figured she would likely be separated from Xu Liangchen after this mock exam. Her own grades were always at the bottom, while Xu Liangchen was practically soaring into the clouds. A world of difference. How could they possibly continue to be deskmates? The thought made Mu Nan glum and unhappy. During class, she kept looking at Xu Liangchen. Until Xu Liangchen frowned from being stared at.
“Why do you keep looking at me? Do I have the answer on my face?” Mu Nan sighed and slumped onto her desk, like a pile of mud. “You’re much prettier than the answer.” Xu Liangchen: “…”
For the next few classes, Mu Nan basically had no interest in listening. She didn’t even know what was being taught, in a dazed state. It wasn’t until Chen Jiao called her to eat in the cafeteria at noon that she seemed to wake up.
“Where’s Xu Liangchen?” Mu Nan asked, puzzled. Chen Jiao thought for a moment. “She left as soon as class ended. Maybe she went home to eat.” Mu Nan nodded then and went to the cafeteria with Chen Jiao.
…
Lunchtime Confrontation and Zhao Shi’s Determination
As soon as they got their food, Chen Jiao whispered, “Let’s go, let’s go to Zhao Shi’s side.” Mu Nan’s face darkened; she was very unhappy. “Jiaojiao, if you keep doing this, I’m really not eating with you anymore.” Chen Jiao saw Mu Nan’s rare display of anger and asked, “What’s wrong?” Mu Nan placed her food tray on a nearby table, her tone not good. “Nothing, I just don’t like getting involved with Zhao Shi.” Without any particular reason. She just didn’t like him.
Actually, the first time they met, she thought Zhao Shi was pretty good, gentle and refined, like a friendly older brother next door. But the more they interacted later, the more she disliked him. She wondered if it was influenced by Xu Liangchen’s words. Xu Liangchen had said: “Zhao Shi isn’t a good person…”
Chen Jiao saw that Mu Nan didn’t want to say more, so she could only shrug at Zhao Shi, signaling helplessness. Zhao Shi saw Chen Jiao’s gesture and fiercely bit into his spare rib. Crunch, crunch. “Hmph, isn’t it just Mu Nan?! I really don’t believe in this evil!”
…
What’s next for Mu Nan and Xu Liangchen?
The tension between Mu Nan and Zhao Shi is escalating, and Xu Liangchen’s protective instincts are clear. Will Mu Nan finally understand why Xu Liangchen dislikes Zhao Shi so much? And how will the upcoming mock exam and the rearrangement of seats affect their budding relationship?
