Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
A Hazy Morning After
Mu Nan woke up again, and it was already evening. She opened her eyes, her mind still not fully clear, then quickly sat up to check her clothes. Good, still on. But her body was still a little sore. She desperately tried to recall what had happened before, but it was all fragmented. She and Chen Jiao had gone to see Zhao Shi, and they had drunk alcohol. After that, she couldn’t remember clearly. She vaguely felt she had seen Xu Liangchen. And done some… things.
She rubbed her still-aching head and surveyed her surroundings. First, she saw a desk, piled high with books. She got out of bed, stepped into her sandals, walked to the desk, and picked up a book. On the cover, it read: Xu Liangchen. Sure enough, the person I saw while delirious was Xu Liangchen. Then… She glanced at her clothes, unsure if the rippling images in her mind were real or just a dream. The room was small. After a quick look around, her gaze settled on the doorknob. What should I say when I go out? It feels like anything I say would be awkward.
Just as Mu Nan was wondering whether to go out, the door opened, and Xu Liangchen’s faint voice sounded. “You’re awake.” Mu Nan bit her lip, her face flushed crimson, her hands and feet unsure where to place themselves. “A-awake…” she replied weakly, not daring to look at Xu Liangchen. Xu Liangchen saw her reaction, a hint of warmth in her phoenix eyes. “Come out and eat.” Mu Nan nodded shyly, like a timid new bride, following her out of the room.
…
Dinner and an Awkward Departure
Out of the room, Mu Nan smelled the aroma of food. She looked up and saw a middle-aged woman bustling in the kitchen. She felt a little embarrassed. “Xu Liangchen, I should go home.” Xu Liangchen leaned against the kitchen doorway, calling out to the busy woman inside, “Mom, dinner’s ready.” Ye Jin heard Xu Liangchen call her and quickly responded. Then she turned and saw a restrained Mu Nan, smiling brightly. “This must be your classmate, are you awake?” Mu Nan didn’t know what Xu Liangchen had told Ye Jin, so she just nodded with a flushed face, too embarrassed to speak.
Ye Jin carried out a dish, not forgetting to instruct, “Remember to rest well when you study in the future. Chenchen said you’re too tired. Studying shouldn’t be so taxing; your health is important.” Mu Nan’s previously constrained body relaxed a little, and she nodded repeatedly. Ye Jin carried out the rice cooker. Xu Liangchen took the bowls and served three bowls of rice onto the table. “You two eat first, I’ll make a soup.” Ye Jin smiled gently, her face still covered with ointment, looking at Xu Liangchen with caution. Mu Nan quickly grabbed her arm. “Auntie, you don’t need to busy yourself, this is enough.” Ye Jin pushed her to sit on a stool. “It’s fine, I’ll make another egg drop soup. Chenchen likes it.”
Mu Nan didn’t speak after that. Ye Jin turned back into the kitchen, leaving only Xu Liangchen and Mu Nan in the living room. Xu Liangchen held her bowl, her movements slow and graceful as she picked up food. Her fair fingers held the rim of the bowl, even her fingernails had a beautiful curve. Mu Nan suddenly thought of something and blushed, lowering her head. She poked her chopsticks into the rice, looking at Xu Liangchen eating, hesitant to speak. “I…” “Eat.” “Oh…” Mu Nan’s unspoken words were dismissed. She lowered her head and began to eat. Ye Jin also brought out the egg drop soup, smiling warmly at Mu Nan. How nice. Chenchen even brought a classmate home for dinner. This is a first.
The three at the table had different thoughts. Ye Jin frequently served food to Xu Liangchen and Mu Nan. Mu Nan didn’t usually eat much, but she forced herself to eat. Xu Liangchen remained silent throughout, not speaking until after the meal. Ye Jin was clearing the dishes. Xu Liangchen greeted Ye Jin, “Mom, I’ll walk her back first.” Mu Nan, who had been following her, also greeted Ye Jin when she heard this. Ye Jin was still worried and called out after them, “Chenchen, why doesn’t your classmate stay overnight tonight?” Xu Liangchen swallowed, her voice hoarse. “No need, it’s very close.”
It was indeed very close. The house she moved into was only two streets away from Mu Nan’s. Mu Nan, seeing that they were almost at her doorstep, put on a playful grin. “It’s so close.” Xu Liangchen simply hummed in acknowledgment. Mu Nan couldn’t stand the atmosphere anymore. Gritting her teeth, she grabbed Xu Liangchen’s hand, wanting to see her reaction! Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes held a hint of confusion, still looking calm and indifferent. “What’s wrong?” Mu Nan bit her lip. Damn it. What should I say? I had a wet dream. And the object of my wet dream was you! She would rather die than say something like that!!!
…
A Confusing Farewell and a Troubling Truth
After a long time, she asked, “How did you know I was at the KTV?” Xu Liangchen had actually gone to deliver some materials to Mu Nan. But when she arrived, Mu Yang told her that Mu Nan had gone out with Chen Jiao. Her mind immediately went blank; she knew something was wrong. She must have gone to see Zhao Shi. How reckless! Xu Liangchen rushed to the KTV and happened to see Zhao Shi embracing Chen Jiao as they left. She asked the owner with a dark face. Fortunately, the owner was somewhat familiar with Mu Nan and gave her the room number. That’s how she found her. Thank goodness. Thank goodness she wasn’t a step too late.
Mu Nan waited for a long time for Xu Liangchen to reply. She shook her arm. Xu Liangchen subtly withdrew her hand, her tone flat. “Coincidence.” Mu Nan was clearly not satisfied with this answer, but she didn’t know why she wasn’t satisfied. She almost bit her tongue trying to suppress that question. Her pretty face was crimson, her eyes slightly red with urgency. Finally, she walked home angrily. “I’m leaving.” Xu Liangchen nodded, her phoenix eyes calm and unperturbed. “Okay.” Mu Nan walked a few steps, then angrily turned back to look at Xu Liangchen. “I said I’m leaving!” This time, Xu Liangchen’s gaze was on her, looking directly at her, still replying calmly. “Go home quickly.”
That kind of expression, that kind of person! How could she be the one who did… did that?! Mu Nan turned and walked back into her house, feeling that she had been too much just now. Xu Liangchen hadn’t done anything wrong, and she was implicated just because of her own wet dream. But that touch felt too real. So real that Mu Nan didn’t want to believe it was fake. Or… she desperately hoped it was real. Thinking of this possibility, Mu Nan felt a little helpless. She stood outside the door, hesitating to knock and go in.
Xu Liangchen hid in the darkness, watching her every move. Seeing her standing at the door, her heart ached. Her usually cold phoenix eyes were filled with the image of that small person standing under the light. Her emotions rose and fell with Mu Nan’s every action. Mu Nan was caught between a rock and a hard place. She couldn’t bear to leave either, just wanting to linger and look a few more times. Seeing Mu Nan’s reaction, she must still be doubtful about the truth of what happened. Good. All the explanations she had prepared were suddenly unnecessary. Just deny it vehemently. Anyway, Mu Nan had the problem of headaches after a hangover; the more she thought, the more it hurt. She didn’t have to worry about Mu Nan suddenly remembering. She just kept watching until Mu Nan was let into the house by Mu Yang. The closed door blocked her gaze, and she slowly walked back.
…
Chen Jiao’s Night and a Hidden Agenda
Mu Nan, who had been pulled into the house, was a little dazed. Mu Yang asked impatiently, “Did you eat dinner?” Mu Nan nodded. Mu Yang then started lecturing, “Playing so wildly, do you even remember you’re taking the college entrance exam?! And this Chen Jiao too, next time she comes, I’ll have a good talk with her!” Only then did Mu Nan remember Chen Jiao. She quickly called Chen Jiao’s house. She wondered how Chen Jiao was doing now.
Chen Jiao was lost in a tender dream, her head resting on a boy’s arm. She opened her eyes, her fingers tracing his face, little by little outlining his features. Especially those thin lips. Her fingers, still wanting more, repeatedly caressed them until Zhao Shi opened his mouth and took her slender fingers, gently biting them. A tingling sensation came from her fingertips. Chen Jiao couldn’t help but rub against Zhao Shi. Their naked bodies under the blanket pressed closer together.
Night had just fallen. The hotel curtains had long been drawn, and only a dim yellow lamp on the bedside table cast a faint glow. Clothes and shoes were scattered all over the room. A pair of underwear hung on the edge of the bed, no one knew whose, and the light was too dim to tell its original color. The room was filled with a confusing musky scent.
Zhao Shi half-opened his eyes, his long arm wrapped around Chen Jiao’s body. Those two soft mounds pressed against his chest, rising and falling with her breathing, rubbing against him. His lower abdomen began to heat up. He closed his eyes and fumbled on her body, his fingers seemingly on fire, igniting Chen Jiao with every touch. Chen Jiao was immersed in the beautiful dream he had woven. It was indeed a beautiful dream.
Chen Jiao slightly opened her eyes, looking at the boy laboring on her. She felt his image in her heart was so tall and great. She stretched out her fair arm and embraced Zhao Shi’s neck. Zhao Shi closed his eyes and found her earlobe, gently biting it. He slowly opened his eyes only after hearing her gasp. “Jiaojiao, what happened with Jiang Hao today can’t be known by anyone.” Chen Jiao nodded haphazardly, her mind already following Zhao Shi’s fingers exploring below, shifting her body restlessly. Zhao Shi narrowed his eyes and smiled slightly. Not long after, the sounds of the bed violently shaking echoed in the room, a woman’s soft moans mixing with a man’s panting.
