Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The small sanctuary around Mu Nan was quickly broken. Chen Jiao walked to her side, stumbling with every step, her eyes wide as she looked at Xu Liangchen, not forgetting to quietly ask Mu Nan, “How come I feel like she’s different from how she was before?”
She wasn’t just different; there was nothing at all similar. Chen Jiao had seen Xu Liangchen before when they went to No. 1 High School and naturally had an impression of her.
Although their appearances were the same, their temperaments were worlds apart. The Xu Liangchen she saw before was so gentle and elegant, her movements delicate. But the one sitting next to Mu Nan now…
Her face was cold, she was silent, and her eyes were sharp, as if she could see through others’ hidden thoughts.
It was frightening.
In just a short year, this person was completely different.
Chen Jiao whispered in Mu Nan’s ear, “Could this one be fake?”
Mu Nan was amused, “Stop it.”
“Hey, then go talk to her.”
Mu Nan retorted crossly, “Talk about what? If you want to talk, you talk. I’m going to sleep.”
With that, she flopped onto her desk, her entire body sprawled out.
A few strands of her ponytail were blown by the wind onto Xu Liangchen’s book. Xu Liangchen slowly frowned, staring at the girl beside her who was showing her the back of her head, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Finally, she sighed, shook her head, and continued reading.
Chen Jiao saw that Mu Nan wasn’t talking anymore and just hummed twice, scattering a book over Mu Nan’s face. “Sleep, sleep, all you do is sleep!”
Covered by the book, Mu Nan had already fallen into a dream.
Although the classroom was noisy, many students’ gazes were still on Xu Liangchen. She was naturally beautiful, and even though she showed little emotion, just looking at her face was pleasing to the eye.
The class also had a majority of boys, and the occasional scrutinizing glances made Xu Liangchen’s expression increasingly grim.
She hated being stared at like that.
She especially hated it!
Xu Liangchen propped her book upright and buried her head in it, which significantly reduced the curious gazes.
Behind her, Xiao Xin tried to talk to her several times but couldn’t find an opportunity.
Now, seeing her head on the desk, eyes closed, Xiao Xin knew it wasn’t convenient to disturb her and quietly said to her deskmate, “Wow, she’s really aloof.”
Her deskmate quietly agreed, “Yeah, this is different from what the rumors said.”
Then both of them shook their heads at Xu Liangchen’s back.
Rumors are not to be believed!
Xu Liangchen had her head down, arms on the desk. Mu Nan’s long hair kept brushing against her arm, a tingly, ticklish sensation. She felt an urge to grab it tightly in her hand!
She closed her eyes, slowly clenching a small lock of hair in her hands, her body tensing.
The class bell rang abruptly, and soon after, the homeroom teacher re-entered the classroom.
Mu Nan was still sleeping. Xu Liangchen removed all the books from her face. Mu Nan opened her hazy eyes, her voice still a little hoarse, “What is it?”
Xu Liangchen swallowed the “nothing, you can sleep” that was about to come out and, gritting her teeth, said word by word, “The teacher is here.”
Mu Nan rubbed her eyes, “Why is he here again?”
Then she sighed.
Today was the first day of reporting, and according to past experience, there usually wasn’t much to do. Mostly, the teacher would give them a lecture, telling them to settle down and not just think about playing.
Mu Nan always let it go in one ear and out the other. She was used to being lazy and had no great ambitions; being able to graduate smoothly and get a job was enough for her.
She didn’t know why, but the teacher kept coming into the classroom today.
Mu Nan saw the homeroom teacher’s gaze fall on the new student next to her and mumbled to herself, “Is he here to keep an eye on Xu Liangchen?”
She chuckled to herself.
It wasn’t impossible.
It was indeed necessary to keep a close eye on the legend from No. 1 High School who had transferred to No. 3 High School.
The homeroom teacher’s gaze swept over all the students, a joyful expression on his face. “Today, I won’t give you any more inspirational talks. I have good news for you all: tomorrow afternoon, the school will organize a movie screening. Please be prepared!”
A movie screening?
Isn’t that something for first and second-year high school students?
When did they, third-year high school students, become so special?
“Teacher! Are you sure you’re not in the wrong classroom?”
The class troublemaker stood up and asked, immediately causing other students to burst into laughter.
The teacher’s eyes also held a smile. “No, I’m not mistaken, and you didn’t mishear. We’re giving you a little treat first. This Friday, there’s a mock exam. If you don’t do well…”
The rest of the words were self-explanatory.
Indeed, it was a little treat first.
But it was good to have a little treat; it was better than always enduring hardship.
Behind her, Xiao Xin was already discussing with her deskmate what snacks to bring for tomorrow. Mu Nan felt a little greedy when she heard this, but her parents were on a business trip, and it was just her and her brother at home. Given her brother’s personality, he definitely wouldn’t let her eat such junk food.
Sigh…
Melancholy!
Her eyes darted around, then landed on the person beside her. “Xu Liangchen!”
Xu Liangchen tilted her head to look at her, only to see Mu Nan’s eyes full of smiles, with a wisp of stray hair dangling over her forehead.
“What’s wrong?”
She turned her head back, looking down at her book, the pages filled with Mu Nan’s smile.
It stirred her heart.
Mu Nan scooted closer to Xu Liangchen. “Hey, what kind of movies do you like?”
Xu Liangchen’s body stiffened slightly and she moved inwards a bit, her expression becoming more serious. “I like…”
She suddenly remembered that what she liked were movies from more than ten years later.
“I like all good movies.”
Mu Nan suddenly wrapped her arm around Xu Liangchen’s. “Really?! Me too!”
Seeing her movements hint at further “attack,” Xu Liangchen finally broke free of her arm, saying indifferently, “You’re too close.”
Mu Nan said “oh” and seemed a little unhappy. “You don’t like it?”
Xu Liangchen’s eyes flickered.
“Mmm, it’s hot.”
Mu Nan pretended to understand and nodded, but the air in the classroom wasn’t really hot; the fan was constantly blowing, and she even felt a bit cool.
Perhaps people who are good students…
Have a few quirks?
Mu Nan felt her idea was very reasonable. While marveling at her own cleverness, she hastily shared the “information” with those behind her.
“Hey, Xu Liangchen doesn’t like people touching her.”
Xiao Xin’s eyes widened. “You’re only just finding that out?”
Mu Nan saw Xu Liangchen engrossed in her book, then turned to ask, “You already knew?”
Xiao Xin nodded and whispered in her ear, “And also, apparently she left No. 1 High School because a teacher took a liking to her, and even wanted to… and then Xu Liangchen transferred.”
Mu Nan looked at her aloof deskmate, and her mind instantly exploded.
“Holy crap??? Is that true?”
At this, not only Xu Liangchen but also the other still noisy students stopped and looked at her. Mu Nan raised her hand, indicating, “Sorry, sorry…”
The classroom instantly returned to its previous clamor.
Mu Nan grabbed Xiao Xin’s arm. “You can’t spread this kind of thing around.”
Xiao Xin looked at Mu Nan’s head. “How dare I? Just pretend you don’t know.”
Mu Nan looked at the beautiful, picturesque girl beside her.
To pretend not to know…
How difficult would that be!
