Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
The next day, Xu Liangchen went to Mu Nan’s house early as expected. Mu Yang had just woken up, and when he opened the door and saw Xu Liangchen, he greeted her, “You’re a real lifesaver.”
To be honest, his own brother couldn’t do this.
And Mu Nan was truly a blockhead who just didn’t get it!
He wondered what clever trick Xu Liangchen had used to make a stone blossom.
Xu Liangchen nodded and greeted him, then asked, “Has Mu Nan woken up yet?”
Mu Yang scratched his head, closed the door, and said, “Not yet. Go to her room and wake her up.”
He then went to get ready.
Xu Liangchen stood in the living room, looking at Mu Nan’s room. After about ten minutes, seeing that she was still not awake, she knocked softly on the door.
“Mu Nan?”
There was no response from the room. Xu Liangchen’s palms were a little sweaty. She held the doorknob and opened the door.
Mu Nan’s room wasn’t big, and the curtains were still closed, making it a bit dark. Only some morning light filtered through the gaps in the curtains, illuminating the general outline of the room.
Everything was pink: pink wallpaper, a pink vanity table with bottles and jars all over it. It was clearly a little girl’s room.
The closet door was open, and neat clothes were hanging inside, with underwear on the shelf below.
Xu Liangchen’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she moved her gaze away from there.
Actually, even without the morning light, she could have roughly known the layout of Mu Nan’s room.
Her eyes finally fell on the sleeping girl.
Knee-length plush dolls were piled on the bed, and Mu Nan was sleeping inside a doll with her long hair spread out.
Although it was almost the beginning of winter, the weather this year was unusually hot.
The daytime temperature in autumn would normally be around twenty degrees Celsius.
Mu Nan was wearing a short-sleeved shirt that had ridden up as she slept, exposing a large area of her belly, which was fair and delicate.
Her slender waist was tiny, and her legs were夹 between the sheets. She was in a deep sleep.
Xu Liangchen swallowed. She suddenly felt very hot in the room, and her throat was dry.
She watched for a while, and her fingers couldn’t help but touch the blanket, then quickly pulled it down from Mu Nan’s head, covering her completely.
Only after Mu Nan’s head was the only thing exposed did Xu Liangchen sit on the edge of the bed to calm herself down.
The bed immediately sank, and Mu Nan’s body slid toward her. Xu Liangchen had no choice but to move to the side.
“Xu Liangchen?”
Mu Nan mumbled, called out her name, and then rubbed her eyes. “It really is you.”
Xu Liangchen’s ears were slightly red, but her expression was normal. “Hurry up and get dressed. I’ll wait for you in the living room.”
Mu Nan had just woken up. She stretched her fair arms out from under the blanket, raising them high above her head. The blanket fell from her body, revealing her slender waist and tender skin.
Her voice was soft and nasal, “Okay, wait for me then.”
Xu Liangchen hummed in a low voice and hurried out of the room.
Mu Nan quickly got up, changed her clothes, and washed up. When she came out of the room, she saw Xu Liangchen sitting on the sofa with a test paper in her hand. She was looking down with a slight frown, like a serious teacher.
Mu Yang popped out of his room. “Breakfast is on the table. Eat first, then you can review.”
Mu Nan nodded and saw Mu Yang with a shoulder bag and a basketball.
“Are you going to play?”
Mu Yang nodded. “Yeah, you study hard.”
He then greeted Xu Liangchen, “You guys have fun. I’m leaving now.”
Xu Liangchen put down her book and said to him, “You’re welcome.”
After he left, Mu Nan muttered, “Why is he so into basketball lately…”
Because he wasn’t just playing basketball; he was also busy falling in love.
Naturally, that took up more time than usual.
Knowing the truth, Xu Liangchen lowered her head, revised the test paper in her hand, and didn’t forget to instruct, “Hurry up and eat breakfast.”
Mu Nan scurried over to the sofa next to Xu Liangchen and rested her head on her shoulder like a spoiled cat. “It’s okay, I’m not hungry.”
Xu Liangchen, helpless, put down her materials and pulled Mu Nan to the dining table. She scooped up some porridge and placed it in front of her. “Eat quickly.”
Mu Nan was a little overwhelmed.
What’s with Xu Liangchen today?
She was being so nice to her.
During the meal, she frequently looked at Xu Liangchen, who remained calm and composed as usual, seemingly undisturbed by her staring. After a while, Mu Nan involuntarily looked away.
After eating, Mu Nan cleared the table and sat on the sofa with Xu Liangchen to solve some problems.
It was more like Xu Liangchen was talking and she was listening.
But she wasn’t really listening.
Her mind was full of thoughts about Chen Jiao.
She wondered how she was doing now.
Seeing that she was truly not in the mood to listen, Xu Liangchen didn’t force her. She closed the book and told her to get up.
Mu Nan followed her out the door.
“Where are we going?”
Xu Liangchen walked a few steps, then turned around and said to her, “To buy a gift.”
Mu Nan slapped herself on the forehead. She had completely forgotten that they were going to Song Yu’s house in the afternoon, and it was his birthday, so a gift was definitely necessary.
She was so stupid.
Xu Liangchen was so thoughtful.
Mu Nan’s house was near the city center. The two of them walked for about ten minutes and arrived at a gift shop.
They walked in together. Mu Nan looked left and right, still unable to decide what to get.
She thought one thing was too girly, and another was too childish.
Finally, she pouted and walked over to Xu Liangchen with slumped shoulders.
Xu Liangchen was standing in front of some mechanical toys and picked up a pair of small Ultraman warrior figurines. Mu Nan burst out laughing and took them from her hand. “No way. Song Yu would like these?”
“I think, with his personality, you’d be better off getting him a pair of nunchucks.”
Xu Liangchen laughed at what she said. Her phoenix eyes were smiling, and her voice was gentle. “We’ll get this.”
Seeing that she had made her choice, Mu Nan asked, “Then what should I get?”
Xu Liangchen pointed to the two warriors. “We’ll each give him one.”
Mu Nan’s mouth twitched, but she didn’t say anything.
In the end, she chose a small swan-shaped music box. It looked delicate, and the music was crisp and pleasant. Okay, this is it!
After they had chosen their gifts and had them wrapped, Mu Nan saw that it was still early, only a little after ten o’clock, so she pulled Xu Liangchen to a nearby malatang restaurant for a meal.
It was close to noon and a weekend, so there were many people eating malatang.
Mu Nan chose her ingredients first and handed them to the lady on the side. Xu Liangchen frowned and eventually chose some vegetables and noodles.
She truly couldn’t understand why Mu Nan loved eating street food so much.
Not only did she like it now, but she would become even more obsessed with it later, always dragging her out to eat it whenever they had free time.
Xu Liangchen felt a little scared at the thought of that taste.
She actually hated it.
Soon the malatang was served. It looked nice and smelled fragrant. Mu Nan picked up a leaf with her chopsticks, looked at it seriously for a long time, and then muttered, “I wonder how she’s doing now.”
Xu Liangchen, feeling a little low-spirited, picked up her chopsticks and ate a few bites in a hurry.
When she heard what Mu Nan said, she replied, “Whatever happens to her is her own choice. No one else is to blame.”
Mu Nan scoffed, “You’re so cold-blooded.”
Xu Liangchen glanced at her. “If I weren’t cold-blooded, you would be the one in her predicament right now.”
Mu Nan was choked up by her words.
How could she not know what Xu Liangchen meant?
Even when Chen Jiao came looking for her recently, Xu Liangchen had subtly rejected her.
But how could she ignore Chen Jiao?
At this thought, Mu Nan lowered her head and quietly ate the hot food in her bowl.
Her expression was so dejected, it was as if she were eating something that made her feel hopeless.
Xu Liangchen, feeling helpless, just had to stop paying attention to her.
She looked around the shop and finally her eyes fell on two people sitting in the back with their backs to them.
It was Zhao Shi and Chen Jiao!
Xu Liangchen’s eyes suddenly turned cold, her eyebrows furrowed, and her expression became much harder.
Even Mu Nan felt the change in her demeanor.
“What’s wrong?”
Xu Liangchen saw Mu Nan look up, and she shook her head at her. “Nothing. Eat quickly.”
Mu Nan said, “Oh,” and lowered her head again.
She didn’t know what Zhao Shi and Chen Jiao were talking about. Chen Jiao kept shaking her head, and Zhao Shi’s face was very sullen and cloudy.
Chen Jiao held Zhao Shi’s arm, but he pulled it away, looking angry.
She carefully moved closer to him, and Zhao Shi turned his head to continue talking to her, but his face was extremely grim.
Finally, Chen Jiao rested her head on the table and said something. Only then did Zhao Shi place his hands on her shoulders, smiling very gently.
Xu Liangchen found the sight extremely annoying and simply looked away.
Mu Nan’s bowl was barely touched, so Xu Liangchen just pulled her away.
The two of them returned to Mu Nan’s house, and after a leisurely two o’clock, they went out again to take a bus to Song Yu’s house.
The bus ride wasn’t long, about twenty minutes. When they arrived at the entrance of Song Yu’s house, Xu Liangchen stood there and looked up at the building in front of her.
The house was a villa. This house was probably a hundred years old and had been renovated later. Through the crack in the main gate, she could see the garden inside, which was filled with all kinds of beautiful flowers.
Song Bei wasn’t a person who enjoyed leisurely pursuits. After her mother died, all of this was taken care of by the servants. She would only occasionally sit in the gazebo among the flowers.
Xu Liangchen closed her eyes. She could tell how many steps it took to get from where she was standing to that gazebo, what the decorations in the gazebo were, and what kind of patterns were on the bricks.
This was a place she was incredibly familiar with.
Now, she had to walk in as a stranger.
It’s a joke.
Mu Nan was looking left and right. A few classmates came from a distance, and she pulled Xu Liangchen’s arm. “Let’s go. Let’s go in.”
Xu Liangchen snapped out of her memories and nodded. “Okay.”
