Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Tuesday was physical examination day.
Mu Nan and Chen Jiao arrived at school early. Mu Nan hadn’t spoken to Xu Liangchen on the way back home last night and wondered why she was making such a fuss.
She was also thinking about Chen Jiao’s situation and how to talk to Chen Jiao’s parents to minimize the damage.
Chen Jiao also had her own thoughts, wondering how to implement the next step of her plan.
The two of them sat next to each other, but they didn’t say a word.
Soon, people began to trickle into the classroom. Mu Nan greeted Chen Jiao and returned to her seat. As soon as she sat down, Xu Liangchen walked in.
The morning light shone on her from behind, making her look like she was glowing. Her short hair was a little longer than when they first met, almost reaching her shoulders, and her bangs were also much longer, just enough to cover her phoenix eyes when she looked down.
Mu Nan stared at her for a long time until Xu Liangchen walked over to her.
Xu Liangchen asked softly, “Why are you zoning out?”
Mu Nan looked away and replied awkwardly, “It’s nothing.”
Xu Liangchen’s lips moved, but she didn’t say anything. She walked to her seat, sat down, and prepared for morning self-study.
The physical examination was after morning self-study.
They had already had a comprehensive physical examination when they started their senior year, which lasted for two days.
So when the homeroom teacher said they needed another physical examination, everyone was excited, thinking they had another excuse to play.
Then they found out that there were only two people here to examine them: a nurse from the infirmary and the school doctor.
And the examination wasn’t as complicated. It was just a bl00d draw, with no other tests.
Many students were dissatisfied, feeling that they had gotten excited for nothing.
The bl00d draw was very fast. The class finished in two hours. The “old fuddy-duddy” only walked into the classroom unhappily after the school doctor left.
The teacher was even more annoyed by the noisy students and roared, “Class is in session!”
The class monitor stood up and led the students in a respectful bow.
For everyone else, this quick check-up was over, but for Chen Jiao, it was just beginning.
After class, Zhao Shi arranged to meet Chen Jiao on the rooftop. As soon as they met, Chen Jiao couldn’t stop crying. “Zhao Shi, I can’t do it.”
Zhao Shi’s brows furrowed fiercely, and his gentle tone was completely gone. “Jiaojiao, think about it. If you don’t go this afternoon, once the school doctor takes all the bl00d samples for testing, you won’t have another chance!”
Chen Jiao was still hesitant, and her body was trembling uncontrollably. “Then, can we find someone else?”
Zhao Shi put his hands on her shoulders, his voice sincere. “Jiaojiao, Mu Nan has treated you like this, and you’re still thinking about her? We’re not trying to harm her. It’s just a temporary solution. Besides, you and Mu Nan are such good friends. Won’t she help you?”
The tone of this last sentence was particularly serious.
Zhao Shi knew that with Chen Jiao’s personality, she wouldn’t be able to ask Mu Nan to do that. But if he didn’t give her a little push now, they would both be doomed.
Seeing that Chen Jiao was still not speaking, his voice became more irritable. “Fine, do what you want. If you really don’t want to go, let’s just go and tell the teacher now.”
With that, he started to walk away. Chen Jiao grabbed his arm and hugged him from behind, her tears soaking his back.
“I’ll go.”
“I’ll go, okay?”
Zhao Shi’s gentle demeanor returned. He turned around and held Chen Jiao’s hands. “Good girl. I’ll distract the school doctor after the second class this afternoon. You go in, understand?”
Chen Jiao bit her lip and nodded, a bloody taste spreading in her throat.
Sometimes, one wrong step leads to a series of mistakes.
The two of them returned to the classroom. Mu Nan looked at Chen Jiao’s face. It was very pale, and her eyes were red and swollen as if she had been crying. She sighed and slumped her whole body onto the desk like a lump of mud.
Xu Liangchen couldn’t stand to see her like this and poked her arm with a pen.
Mu Nan turned her head sharply. “What?”
Xu Liangchen placed a test paper over her face. “Do the questions.”
Mu Nan lost her temper. “I don’t want to!”
With that, she placed the test paper on Xu Liangchen’s desk and puffed out her cheeks.
Xu Liangchen turned her head and looked at her, a coldness in her phoenix eyes. “Give me a reason.”
Mu Nan pouted and didn’t say anything. She kept her head down, not knowing what she was thinking, but her mind felt like it was about to explode with all kinds of chaotic thoughts.
Xu Liangchen clearly didn’t have that much patience anymore. She almost gritted her teeth as she called out, “Mu Nan!”
Mu Nan turned her head, her eyes slightly red. “What do you want?!”
Her voice was already a little choked up.
Xu Liangchen was momentarily speechless. She looked at Mu Nan’s profile for a long time and finally said, “If you don’t want to do it today, then don’t.”
Mu Nan rolled her eyes, turned her head back, and remained slumped on her desk.
The rest of the classes were dull. Mu Nan sat in her seat like a salted fish.
In the afternoon, she couldn’t stand Xu Liangchen’s low mood anymore. As soon as class was over, she prepared to go find Chen Jiao, but she saw Chen Jiao leaving the classroom.
Mu Nan thought she might be going to the restroom and, since she also wanted to go, decided to join her. With that, she got up and followed behind Chen Jiao.
Only when they walked past the restroom did Mu Nan realize that Chen Jiao wasn’t going there.
Then she saw Zhao Shi.
Zhao Shi was standing at the entrance of the infirmary, waving at Chen Jiao, his face sullen. Mu Nan was standing around the corner, so he didn’t see her.
Mu Nan frowned. What were they doing now?
When Zhao Shi saw Chen Jiao approaching, he quickly took two steps forward. “Wait, I’ll distract them. You go straight in. The stuff is in the second refrigerator.”
He then placed something in Chen Jiao’s hand.
“Use this to peel off the labels. If that doesn’t work…”
“…then just smash them all.”
Chen Jiao’s fingers were trembling violently. “Is there a camera?”
Zhao Shi shook his head. “I’ve taken care of everything. Don’t worry.”
Chen Jiao finally calmed down and stood in the other hallway. Then Mu Nan saw Zhao Shi rush into the infirmary, and a little while later, the school doctor and nurse came running out.
Mu Nan wanted to follow them, but her feet didn’t move.
She saw Chen Jiao quickly slip into the infirmary.
The door quietly closed. Mu Nan walked over. There was a part of the window that wasn’t completely covered. Through the gap, she saw Chen Jiao walk to the refrigerator, open it, take out two vials of bl00d, and carefully peel off the labels before sticking them back on.
Mu Nan’s breath caught in her throat.
A loud crash echoed in her mind, and Chen Jiao’s voice was exceptionally clear.
Nannan, are you my best friend?
Nannan, you still owe me a favor.
She felt a chill run through her body, especially her palms, which started to sweat. Her vision blurred for a moment, and her body couldn’t support itself, so she leaned against the windowsill. Suddenly, there was warmth behind her!
Then, her body was held in place, preventing her from moving!
Xu Liangchen was holding her shoulders, her expression unchanged, but her eyes were fixed on the girl inside.
Her clear voice exploded in Mu Nan’s ears like a thunderclap: “Go in!”
