Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
As Xu Liangchen sat in the car, a thought popped into her mind: she felt like she understood the current Song Bei less and less. At the very least, she couldn’t understand why Song Bei kept showing up at the school.
This morning, when Song Yu brought her the message that Song Bei would come looking for her after school, she had a strange feeling. It was as if this Song Bei was a stranger to her.
Because Song Bei was doing things she had never done before.
Of course, she had always attributed this to the fact that she had taken the initiative to approach her, while in the original world, she, Xu Liangchen, didn’t exist. This had caused everything to deviate from its original track, and she had planned to find a way to get it back on track later.
But now, looking at Song Bei, she doubted whether she could smoothly get it back on track.
Song Bei saw Xu Liangchen sit down and didn’t say a word. She motioned for the driver to raise the partition, then leaned back in her seat, looking calm and composed. “Aren’t you curious why I’m looking for you?”
Xu Liangchen looked at the slowly rising partition. “Are you going to ask me about Zhao Sheng?”
A smile suddenly appeared in Song Bei’s eyes.
This girl is so smart.
“Why did you use my name?”
When her subordinate told her about this, she found it a bit amusing. She didn’t know whether to punish them or not. How stupid, to be tricked by a high school student.
Xu Liangchen looked up at her, her eyes serious and filled with complex emotions. “Would you believe me if I said I had no choice?”
Song Bei chuckled at her serious expression. Her eyes were a little warmer than usual. “Why wouldn’t I?”
Xu Liangchen frowned, carefully watching her every expression. “Do you really believe me? Aren’t you curious why I know Zhao Sheng? Aren’t you curious why I was looking for him?”
Song Bei crossed one leg, and after a moment of hesitation, she said, “Why should I be curious?”
Xu Liangchen saw her eyes flicker when she spoke, and she was tapping her index finger on her knee, which was a habit of hers.
She was lying.
In reality, it would have been easy for Song Bei to find out why she used her name to see Zhao Sheng. She could have found out everything with a simple investigation, and from Song Bei’s expression, she had indeed investigated.
She just didn’t know why she knew Zhao Sheng.
This was probably why Song Bei had asked to see her tonight.
Xu Liangchen thought for a moment and said, “Actually, you didn’t have to come looking for me. I admit that using your name was wrong, but there really wasn’t a better way. Also, thank you for what you did about Zhao Shi.”
Her tone was very sincere.
Xu Liangchen never thought that she would one day apologize to her, and so willingly.
She felt like either this world was crazy or she was crazy.
Song Bei clasped her hands on her knees. “No need for apologies or thanks. Just treat me to dinner this weekend.”
Xu Liangchen turned to look at the serious-looking Song Bei.
She thought, it must be this world that’s crazy.
This was the second time Song Bei had asked her out to dinner. Xu Liangchen felt that even an idiot would know what that meant.
“Are you interested in me?”
Xu Liangchen’s question was so direct that it stunned Song Bei. She propped her chin on her thumb and index finger, tilting her head to look at the girl beside her.
The lights in the car were bright, shining on Xu Liangchen’s face. Her black hair reached her shoulders, her bangs covered her eyebrows, and her phoenix eyes were looking out the window. Her lips were tightly pursed, and her fair face showed no emotion.
The calmer she was, the more curious Song Bei became.
Xu Liangchen sighed, pulled her gaze away from the window, and turned to look at Song Bei, making direct eye contact with her.
Song Bei still smiled faintly. “I’m interested in you. Is that not allowed?”
Xu Liangchen thought for a moment. “I’ll introduce someone to you another day. I think… you should be more interested in her than in me.”
With that, she got out of the car. The car door slammed shut with a bang. Song Bei watched her retreating figure from the window, a little curious about who she was talking about.
Xu Liangchen returned to the classroom, where Song Yu was sitting across from Mu Nan, talking. She took a few steps forward. “What’s wrong?”
Mu Nan was still sobbing softly. Her emotions had already stabilized a lot, but seeing Xu Liangchen standing in front of her, she couldn’t hold it in anymore, and tears streamed down her face.
Song Yu saw this and turned his head away. It was unbearable to watch.
Xu Liangchen leaned in close to Mu Nan’s ear. “What happened?”
Mu Nan just buried her head low and didn’t say anything, her body still trembling. Xu Liangchen could only look at Song Yu on the side. Song Yu shivered. “Hey, I’m telling you, I just bumped into her lightly. I didn’t do anything else!”
Xu Liangchen placed her hand on Mu Nan’s shoulder. “Did it hurt when he bumped into you?”
Song Yu wanted to defend himself, but Mu Nan looked up at him and shouted, “I don’t want to see you!”
“Fine, fine, I’ll go! I’ll go, okay?!”
Song Yu stood up and walked out, muttering to himself, his mind full of confusion. He looked back at Mu Nan, and a thought flashed through his mind: Women are made of water!
After Song Yu left, Mu Nan stopped crying and wiped the tears from her face. Her pretty face was streaked with tears. Xu Liangchen was still standing in front of her. “Why did you suddenly start crying?”
Song Yu’s reason was only enough to fool himself.
Mu Nan listened to her voice, thinking about how she had just gotten into Song Bei’s car. The panic in her heart was overwhelming. That feeling was truly awful, threatening to drown her. She suddenly felt that Xu Liangchen’s importance in her heart was probably much greater than she had imagined.
She knew that she had always liked Xu Liangchen, but she didn’t know when she had quietly placed this person in her heart.
Before Song Bei appeared, she thought their relationship was great. Xu Liangchen had an aloof personality and only spent time with her every day. She had many opportunities to confess. At worst, she would just stick to her shamelessly until she made her her own.
But then Song Bei appeared.
That one person appeared and broke Xu Liangchen’s routine.
Xu Liangchen accepted the flowers she sent. She asked her to meet, and Xu Liangchen went. Their relationship was even so close that they could exchange information about private matters like the last one.
Mu Nan felt a little sad. Did Xu Liangchen speak of her to Song Bei in a way that suggested she was a lost cause?
Or… did she not even mention her at all?
Xu Liangchen crouched down, looking at her from the space under her arms. Her eyes were full of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Mu Nan bit her lip, looking at her through the gap. Her expression was gentle, calm, and serene.
She took a deep breath, trying to suppress the panic, her voice still not calm. “It’s nothing. I’m just sad that Chen Jiao is leaving.”
Xu Liangchen let out a sigh of relief, thinking something bad had happened.
Just as she was about to stand up, Mu Nan suddenly hugged her, resting her head on her neck. A wet feeling came through. Xu Liangchen’s hand gently patted her back twice.
“Xu Liangchen.”
Mu Nan’s voice was still very hoarse, her breath warm against Xu Liangchen’s ear.
Xu Liangchen’s ears quietly turned red. “Mhm?”
“Are you going to leave me too?”
