Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Xu Liangchen did not answer Mu Nan’s question. Would she leave her?
To be honest, she didn’t even know herself.
She had also thought that after she introduced Mu Nan and Song Bei, she would have put things back on track, and her mission would be complete. What she would do next, she had no plans for.
Maybe she would go to a university that was not too far away, major in something she wasn’t particularly fond of, and just live out the rest of her life in a mediocre way.
She had always given little thought to her own future.
Before, she thought it was unnecessary. Now, it was time to plan for her future.
Mu Nan spent the entire evening self-study session with her head on her desk, seemingly asleep. She only opened her eyes when the bell for the end of class rang. She was feeling down. The question from before had no answer. Her asking Xu Liangchen that was just for a bit of comfort.
And Xu Liangchen didn’t even want to give her that comfort.
She packed up her books and put them in her bag, then walked straight out of the classroom after class. Xu Liangchen followed behind her, feeling bad about her silence.
The nights in early winter were getting colder. The cold wind on her face felt like a blade slicing through it, a bone-chilling pain. Mu Nan had just come out of the classroom and sneezed twice in a row. Xu Liangchen walked to her side and offered her a tissue.
“Are you okay?”
Mu Nan didn’t say anything and didn’t take Xu Liangchen’s tissue. She walked right past her, ignoring her completely.
Xu Liangchen’s temper flared up a little. She grabbed her arm. “What’s wrong with you?”
When Mu Nan heard this, she stopped in her tracks. Her face, which was usually full of smiles, was devoid of any emotion. Her icy coldness matched the cold night perfectly. Her tone was also not very good. “Xu Liangchen, if you can’t stay with me, don’t be so good to me.”
I’m afraid I’ll… become more and more dependent on you and won’t be able to leave you.
Xu Liangchen was stunned. Under the night sky, Mu Nan’s hair was fluttering in the wind. She bowed her head slightly, allowing Xu Liangchen to clearly see every little expression on her face. Her long eyelashes were trembling. Although her tone was cold, it was clear that she was trying to hold back. Her stubborn look resembled some of Xu Liangchen’s own moments.
Xu Liangchen took two steps back, crossed her hands behind her back, and bit her lip. “Okay.”
Her attitude was very clear. Mu Nan wasn’t an idiot. Her breath caught in her throat, and then a wave of heartbreak overwhelmed her, making her fingers twitch and her whole body sway. Her face was pale.
She took a long time to recover before slowly starting to walk away.
She was so ridiculous. She thought she was different from others to Xu Liangchen after all. She thought that she shouldn’t have hated that passionate kiss. She thought that after all Xu Liangchen had done for her… she should be fond of her.
It turned out that she was just overthinking.
Maybe Xu Liangchen just thought she was too stupid and wanted to help her.
It was just a top student helping an average student. How could she have been so presumptuous as to think that Xu Liangchen might have liked her even just a little?
It hurts so much…
Xu Liangchen maintained a certain distance behind her.
As expected, the two of them didn’t talk anymore. Later, Mu Nan spent more time studying and talked less.
Even Xiaoxin said that Mu Nan was like a bookworm who had been given a shot of adrenaline. Whenever she wanted to share some gossip with her, Mu Nan would ignore her. It was unbelievable. The person who used to gossip the most with her seemed to have been replaced by someone else.
Her grades also started to improve little by little.
Although she had stopped reviewing with Xu Liangchen, she was still able to keep up with her studies. Her renewed determination to study had some effect, but she was very quiet, and she seemed to have lost a lot of weight in just three days.
Xu Liangchen saw the change in her and wanted to talk to her, but she didn’t know what to say.
The two of them were in a stalemate until the weekend.
There was no evening self-study on Saturday. After Xu Liangchen finished her duties, she looked at Mu Nan’s seat, and it was empty.
Xu Liangchen lowered her eyelids, put on her shoulder bag, and walked out of the school gate.
As soon as she left the school, she saw a car parked in a familiar spot.
Song Bei’s car was not parked very secretly, but fortunately, she always came in the evening, and with the constant flow of traffic, no one noticed.
Xu Liangchen originally didn’t want to bother, but seeing Song Bei get out of the car and walk toward her, she sighed and went to meet her.
The corners of Song Bei’s mouth curved into a smile. Her eyes swept over Xu Liangchen, and there was a bit of warmth in them.
Xu Liangchen was undoubtedly beautiful. She was tall, with delicate features, especially her phoenix eyes. They looked calm and indifferent when she wasn’t smiling, but when she smiled, she was full of charm. Song Bei watched her walk toward her step by step and simply leaned against the car with her arms crossed.
Xu Liangchen walked to the front of the car and looked at Song Bei. “What is it now?”
Song Bei personally opened the car door, her eyes under her short hair smiling brightly. “Dinner.”
Xu Liangchen looked at this familiar rogue attitude and suddenly wondered if she had done something wrong.
“I’m not going.”
Song Bei grabbed her arm and pushed her in. Xu Liangchen was a good fighter, arguably much better than Song Bei, but she had underestimated that her body wasn’t as strong as she thought.
Song Bei exercised all year round, so she was naturally much stronger than her. Song Bei had seen Xu Liangchen’s moves last time, so knowing that she knew martial arts, she used all her strength when she grabbed her.
Xu Liangchen couldn’t break free. Her hands were restrained by Song Bei, and she was forced into the car.
Her voice was a little agitated. “What are you doing?”
Song Bei chuckled. “I thought you couldn’t change your expression.”
While she was talking, she locked the car door on Xu Liangchen’s side, and she leaned over Xu Liangchen’s body. Xu Liangchen tried to pull back, and her nose was filled with a familiar scent.
Xu Liangchen was a little annoyed. She pushed Song Bei away and sat up straight. “Will everything be okay after we eat?”
Song Bei was pushed back into her seat but didn’t get angry. She straightened her clothes and didn’t say anything.
Although it was the dead of winter outside, the inside of the car was warm.
Xu Liangchen knew that Song Bei hated the cold the most. Although she was only wearing a light jacket, she would usually be bundled up every time she went out. In winter, she loved to hibernate. As soon as winter started, she would stop managing things and leave them to her subordinates.
This bad habit made her very unaccustomed to being in Xu Liangchen’s body. She wished she could wrap herself up like a ball every day.
The car sped for half an hour before reaching its destination. It was a restaurant owned by the Song family, and it was a place where Song Bei usually went for dinner.
Song Bei led Xu Liangchen inside. She had her regular private room and took Xu Liangchen straight to it.
It wasn’t until she was inside the room that Xu Liangchen let out a breath. She had been breathing in the cold air outside, which was very cold.
She took off her down jacket and sat down on a chair.
The interior felt luxurious. Every tile, brick, painting, and wall exuded exquisite detail, especially in Song Bei’s private room.
The room was not big. In the center, there was a round table with a tablecloth embroidered with roses. A candelabra with white candles stood in the middle. The candelabra was very vintage, and she had found it in an antique shop.
The price was naturally high.
Because Song Bei often came here to rest, there was a curtained-off area with a sofa bed inside.
Song Bei casually ordered a few dishes and then waved her hand to dismiss everyone. Xu Liangchen sat on the chair, looked around, and finally fixed her gaze on the sofa bed inside. That place was so familiar to her. Perhaps soon, it would also become very familiar to Mu Nan.
Thinking of this possibility, Xu Liangchen’s mood became a little unhappy. She lowered her eyelids. The sharpness in her phoenix eyes was replaced with a hint of confusion.
Was she regretting her decision now?
