Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Xu Liangchen rested in the hospital for two hours. The doctor changed her dressing again before letting her leave. Mu Nan stayed by her side the entire time, not leaving for a second.
It was already past eight o’clock when the two of them left the hospital. They walked in silence. Mu Nan had her head bowed. Xu Liangchen walked on the outside of the road, looking at her. “Is something on your mind?”
Mu Nan didn’t answer. Her footsteps paused slightly.
She looked up at Xu Liangchen.
It was the dead of winter. Xu Liangchen was wearing the jacket that Song Bei had sent over later. That person always seemed to know what Xu Liangchen was lacking.
And that understanding was something she didn’t have.
Mu Nan suddenly felt a little panicked. She actually didn’t know Xu Liangchen very well at all.
What she liked and what she hated, she seemed to be completely clueless about.
Although she knew that Xu Liangchen didn’t like Song Bei, that unfamiliar panic still came rushing over her. Her face was pale, almost transparent in the light.
Xu Liangchen didn’t like her like this. She stood closer to her, trying to block the cold wind. “Are you cold?”
“No.”
Mu Nan lowered her head again, her voice muffled. “You and Song Bei… seem to be very close?”
Xu Liangchen walked beside her, her pace also slow. “What do you think of her?”
What did she think of her?
Of course, she didn’t think much of her.
Mu Nan’s tone was sullen. “I don’t like her. I kind of hate her.”
Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes drooped. She didn’t know what she was thinking.
It took them an hour to get to the front door of her house. Mu Nan waved and said goodbye to Xu Liangchen, then turned around and went into her house, her expression still sullen.
Xu Liangchen’s face was pale, looking as if she had lost too much bl00d. Her body was swayed by the wind, barely standing.
She looked in the direction of Mu Nan’s house, and only after her figure disappeared into the doorway did she turn around and walk toward her own house.
When she got home, Ye Jin was looking around. When she saw her, she quickly went to greet her. “Chenchen, why are you so late? Did you have tutoring at school?”
Xu Liangchen responded indifferently. Ye Jin noticed that her clothes had been changed, and her tone became a little hurried. “What’s wrong? Why did you change your clothes? What happened?”
Xu Liangchen had a bit of a headache. She turned and stood in front of Ye Jin. “I got wet on the way back, so I changed at Mu Nan’s house.”
Only then did Ye Jin feel a little relieved.
She knew that little girl, Mu Nan.
The one who sat at the door last time. Their relationship seemed good.
It seemed that Chenchen had really made a friend. Ye Jin was a little relieved. “I’ll heat up some food for you.”
Xu Liangchen turned and walked toward her room. “No need. I’m not hungry. I’m going to bed.”
Ye Jin wanted to follow her and talk, but Xu Liangchen slammed the door shut. Ye Jin murmured, “Okay.”
Behind the door, Xu Liangchen was leaning against it weakly. She had a thousand ways to make Mu Nan and Song Bei meet, but she had no way to make them fall in love with each other.
She found that the track she had messed up.
Couldn’t be put back together.
The next day was the weekend. Ye Jin went to work. Xu Liangchen never liked to sleep in.
She woke up early and went for a jog around her house. When she returned, she happened to see Song Bei’s car parked in front of her house.
The last time, she had deliberately taken her on a different route, but she still found her.
Of course. Was there anywhere in A City that the Song family couldn’t find?
Song Bei was leaning against the car, smoking. There were already three cigarette butts on the ground. She looked in the direction of Xu Liangchen’s house, took out another cigarette from her pocket, and put one in her mouth.
Just as she lit it, a person appeared next to her, their voice calm. “Aren’t you afraid of getting a stomach illness from smoking so much?”
Song Bei took a deep puff and threw the cigarette, which still had more than half left, on the ground. “If you don’t like it, then I won’t smoke.”
Xu Liangchen’s delicate brows furrowed slightly. “What’s wrong?”
She noticed that Song Bei was looking for her more and more frequently recently.
Song Bei pointed at the car. “Get in.”
Xu Liangchen looked directly at Song Bei. “Just tell me what it is.”
Her phoenix eyes were too sharp. Just standing there, her presence was not at all inferior to Song Bei’s. However, because she had been injured and lost too much bl00d yesterday, her face was very pale, and her confidence was not as strong as Song Bei’s.
Song Bei stared at her for a long time and said in a low voice, “I told you before that I would take you to meet someone when I got back.”
Xu Liangchen suddenly felt a little panicked.
Who did she want to take her to meet?
Song Cheng?
Impossible.
In her previous life, she had hidden Mu Nan very well, and Song Cheng had come up empty-handed every time he tried to find her.
She would never let Mu Nan take that risk to meet Song Cheng.
Although he was no longer in charge of the Song family, he wasn’t a pushover either.
Song Bei saw that she wasn’t moving and raised an eyebrow. “Get in the car.”
Xu Liangchen saw her stance and knew that if she didn’t get in the car, she would resort to the same tactics as that night during dinner. She half-crouched and got into the back seat.
Song Bei followed behind her and also got into the car.
Uncle Chen saw that both of them were in the car and asked softly, “Second Miss?”
Song Bei sat down and looked up. “Let’s go.”
Uncle Chen stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.
They drove around most of A City before finally stopping at a place. Uncle Chen parked the car, looked around, and said, “Second Miss, we’re here.”
Song Bei was resting with her eyes closed. When she heard Uncle Chen’s voice, she slowly opened her eyes.
There were dark circles under her eyes, as if she hadn’t slept all night.
Xu Liangchen looked at her and didn’t understand. According to her memories, these two years were the easiest for Song Bei. She didn’t have to fight for territory every day or scheme with others to steal goods. In the winter, she would not ask about anything.
So why did she look so tired?
Song Bei gently rubbed the bridge of her nose with her thumb and index finger, then turned to Xu Liangchen and said, “Let’s go. We’re here.”
Xu Liangchen obediently got out of the car.
Song Bei walked in front, her back straight. Afraid that Xu Liangchen wouldn’t follow her, she grabbed one of her arms.
Xu Liangchen was dragged forward.
The two of them stopped in front of a cemetery. The woman on the tombstone had a beautiful, gentle smile. Just looking at the photo, one could feel her gentle presence.
Song Bei took two steps forward and ran her finger over the photo. “This is my mom.”
Xu Liangchen’s eyes immediately turned red. How could she not know who this was?
When she had just been reborn into Xu Liangchen’s body, she had secretly taken the bus for most of the day to come here, just to get a glimpse of her.
Song Bei’s tone became a rare gentle. A faint smile was in her eyes. “Mom, look, I brought someone to see you. I really like her.”
Xu Liangchen’s head snapped up as if she had been struck. She looked at Song Bei, her nose red, her eyes watery, and a blank expression she had never had before on her face.
Song Bei took her hand. “You don’t mind, do you?”
“I…”
Xu Liangchen couldn’t say anything. Her voice was a little hoarse. She was trying her best to control her emotions, trying not to be so sentimental.
Song Bei’s move was really ruthless.
Her weakness was being seized perfectly.
And yet, she had no way to tell Song Bei the truth. And Song Bei.
Was just a lucky guess.
Xu Liangchen took a long time to calm down. She also took two steps forward and said to Song Bei, “I’m sorry.”
Although Song Bei knew she would reject her, her eyes still dimmed a little. “You don’t have to be sorry. Me liking you is my business.”
“Today…”
“I just wanted to bring you to see her.”
Xu Liangchen didn’t say anything. How could she forget what day it was?
It was her mother’s death anniversary.
Song Cheng would be coming to pay his respects in the evening.
Xu Liangchen stood in front of the tombstone, a faint redness still in her phoenix eyes.
She looked at the smiling, beautiful woman in the photo in front of her and suddenly thought of the man who caused her death.
Song Cheng.
She and Song Cheng were not on good terms in her previous life. Among the three children of the Song family, she was the most unfilial. She had defied Song Cheng three times.
The first time was to demand that he must come to pay his respects to her mother on this day, her death anniversary. No matter what he was doing outside, on this day, she asked him to put his heart on the person who had passed away.
Song Cheng agreed.
The second time was when she found out about the grievances Mu Nan suffered in high school and later met Zhao Shi. She couldn’t hold back and attacked Zhao Shi. This happened when the Song family was in the middle of a very important business deal with the Zhao family.
After Zhao Shi had an accident, the collaboration fell apart, and both families faced huge financial losses.
Song Cheng found her and slapped her hard.
In the end, he was forced to give a huge compensation to the Zhao family, and only then did the matter stop.
And the third thing…
Was when she and Mu Nan got together.
Until she died.
Song Cheng never agreed to it.
Song Bei wasn’t a talkative person, and Xu Liangchen was even more pitifully quiet. The two of them just stood in front of the tombstone, one looking at the person in front of her, and the other looking at the photo on the tombstone.
Xu Liangchen retracted her gaze from the photo. She turned her head and saw Song Bei staring at her without blinking. “Let’s go.”
The cold wind gave her a bit of a headache.
The past events flooded her like water, and her headache seemed to get even worse.
Song Bei saw her pale face and no longer forced her. She supported her and walked her toward the car.
As soon as they got in the car, Xu Liangchen said to Uncle Chen, “Please take me home.”
Song Bei sat beside her, her tone soft. “Uncle Chen, let’s go to the hospital first.”
Xu Liangchen turned to her impatiently. “What for?”
“To change your dressing.”
Only then did Xu Liangchen remember that she was supposed to go to the hospital to change her dressing today. She was a bit confused.
The heater in the car was on high. Xu Liangchen felt a little hot. She unzipped her down jacket, revealing the white shirt underneath.
Her face was flushed from the heat.
Song Bei’s gaze was on her. She saw her fair fingers on her knees, sitting on the inner side, leaning against the door on the other side, a great distance away from her. She scooted closer to Xu Liangchen.
Xu Liangchen instinctively shrank her body. Her slender fingers unbuttoned the button at her throat. Song Bei was too close, and a sense of oppression came over her.
Song Bei saw her actions and smiled faintly. She said to Uncle Chen, “Uncle Chen, turn up the air conditioner.”
Xu Liangchen looked at her with annoyance, the coolness in her phoenix eyes no longer there, seeming to be filled with anger.
Song Bei saw her expression and smiled even more gently. “I just feel a little cold.”
Xu Liangchen silently cursed her in her heart.
Fck!*
