Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 46
Chapter 46
At the hospital, Song Bei didn’t make things difficult for Xu Liangchen. She took her to get her dressing changed and also to eat a meal.
Xu Liangchen followed her out of the restaurant, feeling a little annoyed at the knowing looks from the waiters. Her phoenix eyes were gloomy, and her face was unhappy.
Song Bei strode ahead, not knowing what she was thinking, and only said when they got to the car, “I’ll take you home first.”
Xu Liangchen nodded in agreement. “Don’t come looking for me again.”
She hoped their interactions would stop here. Since she couldn’t make Song Bei like Mu Nan, there was no need to get herself involved.
Song Bei smiled gently. “What, you’re going to eat and run?”
Xu Liangchen’s breathing hitched. This rascal-like behavior of Song Bei’s had only gotten worse.
She didn’t reply, her face cold.
Song Bei found her like this and was amused. Her tone was leisurely. “I did save you several times. Is this how you’re going to repay me?”
“What do you want?”
Song Bei’s eyes lost their playfulness, her expression became serious, and her tone was earnest. “I want you to be with me.”
Xu Liangchen turned to look at her, their gazes meeting. She couldn’t be mistaken about the meaning in Song Bei’s eyes.
Her voice was clear and cold. “I’m not a good match for you.”
Song Bei ignored her rejection. “You won’t know until you try.”
Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes showed a hint of helplessness. “Song Bei, don’t be such a rascal.”
“A rascal?”
Song Bei suddenly leaned forward, pinning Xu Liangchen down. Her eyes were deep and she said in a low voice, “I’ll show you what a rascal is.”
As she spoke, she leaned down. Xu Liangchen’s arched foot was propped against Song Bei’s lower abdomen, and one hand was pushed against her chest. Her expression was normal, as if she wasn’t the one being pinned down.
“Don’t push your luck!”
Her tone was still soft and her phoenix eyes were cold, looking at Song Bei without any fear.
Song Bei slowly pulled her arm back and sat up straight, her eyes filled with interest.
This kind of Xu Liangchen.
She actually found her very cute.
And she wanted her even more…
The two of them ended the conversation on bad terms.
After Xu Liangchen got out of the car, she watched it drive away. As soon as she got to her front door, she saw a person running toward her from a distance.
Mu Nan saw Xu Liangchen standing at the door and waved her arms.
“Xu Liangchen!”
Xu Liangchen stopped and waited for her. Mu Nan ran to her side. “Where did you go?”
“To the hospital to get my dressing changed.”
Mu Nan complained a little. “Didn’t we agree to go together?”
When she came back yesterday, she had told Xu Liangchen to wait for her in the afternoon so they could go to the hospital together, and then they would go to Chen Jiao’s farewell dinner.
Xu Liangchen saw her unhappy face and rubbed her head. “I’m sorry.”
Mu Nan lost all her anger at the touch. She pulled Xu Liangchen into the house. “Have you eaten yet?”
Xu Liangchen nodded. “I ate out.”
“Oh…”
The two of them went into the room. Mu Nan took off her coat. She was wearing a red sweater underneath and a checkered skirt that went past her knees. She changed into a pair of slippers that Xu Liangchen handed to her.
Xu Liangchen saw her breathing on her hands and pulled her into her room, handing her a hand warmer. “You sit for a bit. I’ll go get you some water.”
Mu Nan subconsciously grabbed her arm. Xu Liangchen lost her footing and fell sideways, landing squarely on Mu Nan. Her face suddenly flushed. She tried to prop herself up, but Mu Nan hugged her.
Mu Nan rubbed her head against her chest. “It’s so warm.”
Xu Liangchen had also taken off her jacket, revealing a white shirt underneath. At this moment, one of the buttons on the shirt was undone. After burying her face in her chest, Mu Nan looked up, and the tip of her nose brushed against Xu Liangchen’s throat.
It tickled.
Xu Liangchen felt her body go limp.
She pushed Mu Nan away in a panic, stood up abruptly, and walked out. She tried to stay calm, but her ears were as red as bl00d, which was very noticeable.
Mu Nan felt that familiar feeling from a moment ago rise in her heart.
Xu Liangchen, who had walked out of the room, opened the window. The cold wind blew, clearing her head a lot, and the redness in her ears faded a lot. She slowly closed the window, walked to the table, poured a glass of water, and brought it into the room.
Mu Nan was sitting at her desk, casually picking up a book to read.
The book was from the second year of high school.
There were still some notes on it.
Mu Nan saw that although the handwriting was clear, it was a little delicate, not as strong and powerful as the one she had seen in Xu Liangchen’s books before.
She saw Xu Liangchen enter the room and asked, “Is this your book?”
Xu Liangchen nodded. “Mhm.”
Mu Nan closed the book. “I still like your current handwriting better. The old one was too delicate, like a girl from a small family.”
Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes looked at Mu Nan, knowing that she was trying to act calm. Her gaze didn’t dare to look at her, and her face was still a little flushed.
Mu Nan took the cup of water that Xu Liangchen handed to her. When her fingertips touched Xu Liangchen’s, her face flushed even more. Her tone was an attempt at being casual. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
After Mu Nan finished drinking, she sat on the bed, her eyes lowered, looking a little embarrassed.
Xu Liangchen sat on the chair in front of the desk. The two of them were silent.
The atmosphere was a little awkward.
Mu Nan placed the cup on the bedside table and lay down. “This is so comfortable.”
She hadn’t slept well all night yesterday. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Xu Liangchen and Song Bei. She felt that she couldn’t just sit and wait anymore. At least, she wanted to fight for some things.
If she was really wrong.
It would only be a short period of sadness.
It was better than… a lifetime of regret.
Xu Liangchen saw her lie down, her right hand slightly raised as if to stop her, but she bit her lip and didn’t say anything.
Mu Nan was lying on the bed. She looked at Xu Liangchen. “Do you want to take a nap?”
Xu Liangchen looked at her sleeping posture, her eyes growing deeper. She coughed lightly. “No, I’m not tired.”
Mu Nan hummed. “Then wake me up at three o’clock. We still have to go find Chen Jiao.”
“Mhm.”
Mu Nan felt at ease when she heard Xu Liangchen’s response and fell asleep. Her head rested on her pillow, and there was a fresh scent, just like Xu Liangchen’s, which made her feel incredibly safe.
Xu Liangchen took the cup out, and when she came back, she saw that Mu Nan was already asleep.
She poked Mu Nan’s arm. “Hey, don’t sleep on top of the blanket. Cover yourself with it.”
Mu Nan mumbled softly, shook her head, and turned over, ignoring her.
Xu Liangchen tried to pull the blanket over her, but she didn’t have enough strength. Moving pulled at her abdomen, and the pain made her grit her teeth.
In the end, she took Ye Jin’s blanket from next door and covered Mu Nan with it.
The blanket was a little heavy. It woke Mu Nan up when it was placed on her. Mu Nan squinted her eyes and saw Xu Liangchen tucking the blanket around her. She reached out and grabbed Xu Liangchen’s hand.
Her palm was cool, just like she was.
Mu Nan mumbled softly, “Can you just sit here?”
In reality, she didn’t dare to speak loudly, afraid that she would be embarrassed if Xu Liangchen rejected her, so she said it carefully.
Xu Liangchen, who was standing, slowly sat down.
“Okay.”
“Go to sleep.”
Mu Nan slept until half past three in the afternoon before waking up. Xu Liangchen hadn’t woken her. Her eyes were a little dazed. She quickly got out of bed and put on her shoes. Just as she was about to walk out, her arm was grabbed, and then Xu Liangchen’s soft voice said, “What’s wrong? You’re so flustered.”
Mu Nan tidied her clothes as she spoke. “Didn’t I ask you to wake me up? What time is it now? We’re definitely going to be late.”
Xu Liangchen stood in front of her, her expression gentle, smoothing out her messy hair. She was a little taller than Mu Nan and was standing a little close. Mu Nan stared at her collarbone, not realizing she had swallowed.
“No rush.”
Mu Nan’s heart suddenly beat a little faster. Her voice was as soft as a mosquito’s. “Okay.”
Xu Liangchen picked up Mu Nan’s coat from the side of the bed, put it on her, and put the hood on her head before saying, “Let’s go.”
The two of them walked out the door.
Mu Nan’s pretty face was slightly flushed. Her gaze was stuck on Xu Liangchen’s slender, fair fingers. She looked at Xu Liangchen walking in front of her, reached out her hand, wanting to hold her hand, but after trying twice, she didn’t have the courage to grasp it.
Her lips were bitten red. In the end, her fingers curled up, and she walked with her hands behind her back, bouncing as she went.
Xu Liangchen walked a little slower, as if she was waiting for Mu Nan.
By the time they got to the restaurant, many students had already arrived. Xiaoxin was the first to rush over. Mu Nan saw her rush to Chen Jiao. “Hey, why did you transfer just like that? Did something happen at home?”
Her tone was concerned. Chen Jiao’s face turned pale for a moment, then she smiled faintly. “It’s nothing. I just wanted a change of scenery. It’s too depressing here.”
Xiaoxin didn’t doubt her and agreed. “Yeah, that old-fashioned teacher has been getting more and more annoying lately!”
Chen Jiao smiled and didn’t say anything. Her gaze was on the door. She happened to see Mu Nan and Xu Liangchen walk in. She waved. “Mu Nan!”
Mu Nan walked past Xu Liangchen and went to Chen Jiao. “Why are you standing here in the wind? Let’s go in.”
Chen Jiao hummed. “I was waiting for you.”
Mu Nan saw that her expression was much better. Although she wasn’t rosy, she wasn’t too pale either. She felt relieved. A few of them walked into the innermost part of the restaurant. The group led by Song Yu was already sitting inside, talking loudly.
Not many people came, about ten of them.
They were all people who were good friends with Chen Jiao.
Mu Nan frowned when she saw Song Yu.
Since when did Chen Jiao consider Song Yu to be a good friend?
This wasn’t a good feeling.
Mu Nan followed Chen Jiao inside and sat down. Her gaze landed on Xu Liangchen, who was standing behind her. She pulled Xu Liangchen’s arm. “Come, sit next to me.”
Song Yu, with his sharp eyes, spotted them and said to Mu Nan, “The main characters are all here. We can start eating!”
A few people laughed at him, and Chen Jiao also chuckled, asking him unhappily, “Are you a starving ghost reincarnated?”
Song Yu shrugged. “Isn’t this to lighten the mood?”
Xu Liangchen shook her head and sat down, looking out of place among the noisy crowd.
