Wife, I’ve Been Reborn (GL) - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
The dishes were slow to arrive. It was the peak dining time, so it took a while for each dish to be served. Fortunately, it was the weekend, and everyone wasn’t in a rush for evening self-study, so they relaxed a bit.
Song Yu, bored while waiting for the food, looked around and said to Mu Nan and the others, “Hey, it’s boring to wait. Let’s play a game!”
Mu Nan ignored him, but Xiaoxin was a little excited. “Okay, what game?”
Song Yu smiled slyly. “Well, it’s the most popular one right now…”
“Truth or Dare!”
Several students said it at the same time, and the atmosphere became lively. Song Yu said to the waiter, “Please bring five bottles of beer!”
“How about the loser chugs a bottle?”
The other people all agreed. When it came to Mu Nan, she said indifferently, “Whatever, let’s do it.”
Xu Liangchen, who was sitting next to Mu Nan, didn’t say anything. Everyone was waiting for her to express her opinion. Her phoenix eyes swept over the students. Her imposing presence meant no one dared to be bold and egg her on to participate.
The atmosphere was a little awkward. Everyone looked at each other.
Xu Liangchen’s gaze finally landed on Chen Jiao. After a while, she looked away. “Play.”
“Let’s start, let’s start!”
The group immediately hyped up the atmosphere again. Song Yu placed the beer on the table, moved the dishes to the side, and then spun the bottle. The first person it landed on was Xiaoxin.
Song Yu asked Xiaoxin if she chose truth or dare.
Xiaoxin gritted her teeth. “Dare!”
Song Yu held back his laughter and pointed at the boy next to him. “There, kiss him!”
The person sitting next to him was Zhang Wei, whom Mu Nan wasn’t very familiar with, just an acquaintance.
Xiaoxin’s face immediately flushed red. “Hey!”
Song Yu snickered. “Hey what? You’re the one who chose dare. Otherwise, you can go kiss that old man in the window seat?”
Mu Nan followed the direction of Song Yu’s finger and saw an old man, about sixty years old, eating with his family. He shakily picked up a dish with his chopsticks and chewed it slowly.
Xiaoxin coughed. “Can I change my choice?”
Song Yu shook his head. “No!”
Xiaoxin was forced into a corner and angrily picked up a bottle of beer. “I’ll drink, is that okay!”
Zhang Wei suddenly stood up, walked over to Xiaoxin, and frowned. “What if you get drunk?”
As he spoke, he took the beer bottle from Xiaoxin’s hand, lowered his head, and planted a kiss on her cheek. Mu Nan saw Xiaoxin’s body instantly stiffen and her eyes go blank.
She looked like she had been struck by lightning.
“Hahahahaha…”
Someone laughed, and then a few people started laughing together. Even Zhang Wei was embarrassed. He said to Song Yu, “Is that enough?”
Song Yu was holding his stomach, his head nodding like a pecking chick.
“Yes, yes!”
“Okay, okay, let’s continue, hahahaha…”
Song Yu was still laughing, but he held it back, his face flushed. He continued to spin the bottle, and the bottle cap pointed directly at himself.
“What the f*ck?”
“Karma came too fast.”
Song Yu mumbled softly. Xiaoxin smiled menacingly. Although she was startled just now, she wasn’t so timid. She pointed at Song Yu and gritted her teeth. “Tell me, truth or dare!”
Song Yu swallowed. “I choose…”
Truth was too risky.
“I choose dare.”
Xiaoxin’s large eyes narrowed, and she almost gritted her teeth. “There, kiss that old man by the window, and you’re not allowed to drink the beer!”
Song Yu screamed. “Are you sure!?”
Xiaoxin nodded. “Very sure. Are you going or not!?”
Song Yu clenched his fists, and the muscles on his face tightened. Just when Mu Nan thought he would forfeit, he lifted his head. “Who’s afraid of who!”
Mu Nan’s hand, which was gnawing on a piece of bone, trembled, and the chopsticks almost poked her throat. She saw Song Yu walk a few steps and stand in front of the old man. He suddenly shouted, “Grandpa, I missed you so much!”
He pounced on the old man and pretended to cry, his voice miserable. He wrapped his arm around the old man’s neck, and from Mu Nan’s angle, it looked like he had kissed him.
The old man’s family was scared and quickly pulled Song Yu away.
Song Yu was still sobbing and said to the old man, “Grandpa, it’s Xiao Yu. Don’t you recognize me?”
The old man shook his head blankly.
The old man’s family pulled Song Yu and asked, “Young man, did you mistake us for someone else?”
Song Yu looked crestfallen and didn’t say anything.
Xu Liangchen stood up, walked to Song Yu’s side, pulled him away, and said to the old man’s family, “I’m sorry, he’s drunk. It’s his grandpa’s death anniversary today, and he might have been so overwhelmed by how much this grandpa looks like him.”
“Oh, I see.”
The old man’s family nodded in understanding, their gazes toward Song Yu filled with a bit of sympathy. Song Yu successfully returned to his seat and gave Xu Liangchen a thumbs-up. “Awesome, awesome. The award for best actor belongs to you!”
Xiaoxin saw Song Yu return and asked with a big smile, “How was the feeling? Was it unforgettable?”
A rare smile appeared in Xu Liangchen’s phoenix eyes.
In reality, Song Yu hadn’t kissed the man at all.
Song Yu pretended to go hit Xiaoxin. Zhang Wei stopped his arm. “Continue, continue!”
Xiaoxin made a face at Song Yu and sat down with a cheeky grin.
Chen Jiao saw them causing a fuss and said to Mu Nan, “Come with me to the bathroom.”
Mu Nan put down her chopsticks. “Okay.”
The two of them walked out one after the other. Chen Jiao linked arms with Mu Nan.
The bathroom was on the southernmost side of the first floor and required passing through two small private rooms. Mu Nan was on the right, and Chen Jiao was on her side. She suddenly stopped.
Mu Nan was puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
Chen Jiao turned her head and looked into the private room on the right. A man was eating with a heavily made-up woman on his arm. The two of them were drinking. Zhao Shi had one hand on the woman’s shoulder and used the other to pick up a cup and take a small sip before passing it to the woman with his mouth.
The woman smiled and accepted it. The two of them started to get intimate. Zhao Shi threw away the cup in his hand, and the hand on the woman’s shoulder slid down. Soon, an inexplicable flush appeared on the woman’s face.
Chen Jiao quickly ran to the bathroom and threw up into the toilet. Mu Nan jogged behind her. Her heart ached when she saw her leaning over the toilet. She took out some tissues and handed them to her.
There was no one in the bathroom. Chen Jiao simply sat on the floor, wiped the corners of her mouth with a tissue, and flushed the toilet.
“I thought I would be different.”
“Nannan, look, there’s nothing different about me.”
Mu Nan patted her shoulder. “Get up first. The floor is cold.”
Chen Jiao curled up her legs and buried her head in her arms, crying very loudly. Each sob was more heartbreaking than the last.
“Nannan.”
“It hurts so much!”
Mu Nan hugged her and cradled her head. “It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt anymore. I’m here with you.”
This was the first time Chen Jiao had cried like this since her surgery. It was as if she was trying to cry out all the tears she had held back. The longer she had been suppressing it, the harder she was crying now. Mu Nan was at a loss for what to do.
Chen Jiao cried for about ten minutes before stopping. She stood up, her calves feeling very numb.
Mu Nan helped her to the sink. She splashed some water on her face. The icy water stung her skin.
She washed up quickly, then used the bathroom as if nothing had happened. She said to Mu Nan, who was still waiting outside, “Let’s go. Let’s go back.”
Mu Nan nodded. “You…”
Chen Jiao turned around and smiled faintly. “I’m fine. I’m okay.”
“Are you really okay?”
Chen Jiao hugged Mu Nan. “I actually came to terms with it a long time ago. I just didn’t react well just now. Don’t worry.”
Mu Nan felt a lot more relieved when she heard her speak calmly.
Maybe Chen Jiao had grown up a bit during this time.
When they passed by Zhao Shi’s private room, there was no one inside. Two waiters were cleaning. The hotel was upstairs, and it was obvious where the two of them had gone.
Chen Jiao’s expression was calm, as if the person who had been sitting there was a stranger.
Mu Nan felt sorry for her and was also a little puzzled.
Didn’t Zhao Shi say he was going abroad?
When they returned to the table, Song Yu and the others were still playing their game. As soon as Mu Nan sat down, Song Yu’s bottle cap pointed at Xu Liangchen!
“Hiss…”
Everyone gasped in unison. No one had hit Xu Liangchen in the game so far. Although everyone was incredibly curious about the top student, they didn’t dare to ask too much.
Just her presence at the table was enough to make them all shut up.
Xu Liangchen naturally saw the bottle cap pointing at her. Her face showed helplessness. “How do we play?”
Song Yu’s eyes darted around. “Choose between truth and dare.”
Xu Liangchen looked at Song Yu. She wasn’t sure if, given his personality, he would do what Xiaoxin had just done.
“I choose truth.”
Everyone’s eyes lit up.
Wow!
Free gossip was coming!
Before Song Yu could even speak, a bunch of people started asking questions.
“Top student, do you have any special study methods?”
“What kind of question is that, get lost, get lost! Top student, how many hours do you sleep every day?”
“Top student, what university do you want to go to in the future?”
“Top student…”
“Top student, do you have someone you like?”
Among all the questions, this one was clearly the most interesting.
Mu Nan looked at Xiaoxin, who had asked the question.
As expected of the ancestor of the gossip world. Her questions were so sharp.
Xu Liangchen was about to answer.
Mu Nan asked, “Is the person you like here?”
Her eyes were fixed on Xu Liangchen. The probing in her eyes was too obvious. Xu Liangchen was stunned, and then their gazes met. The emotions in her phoenix eyes were complex.
The entire table fell silent. Everyone held their breath, waiting for Xu Liangchen’s answer.
Xu Liangchen and Mu Nan looked at each other for a while, then she picked up the beer on the side and drank it.
Everyone’s eyes showed disappointment.
Only Mu Nan was looking at Xu Liangchen’s throat, watching her swallow the beer, and she felt thirsty herself. Her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest.
It was beating so fast it was scary.
