Chapter 1: I wish to Die under the Prime Minister
Lan Qingxi knelt on the side of the carriage, subtly shifting her knees to relieve the numbness in her legs and feet.
She had been kneeling for nearly an hour. The carriage was about to enter the Ding’an Gate, and she had to make a choice.
She cast a furtive glance at Song Linyuan, who was lying on a couch less than three feet away, and felt her palms growing sweaty.
“Have you made up your mind?” Song Linyuan said lazily, wiping the blade of a knife covered in blood.
An hour ago, he had killed dozens of assassins, and the blood on the knife had yet to be completely cleaned off.
Lan Qingxi took a deep breath and said, “I am a married woman. Even if I warm the bed for the Lord, it would only dirty your bed.”
“But I have some modest assets. If the Lord can help me out of this predicament, I am willing to offer all of them to you.”
She had married the heir to the Marquess last month. The Marquess’s heir had another beloved, and marrying her was not his intention. They had yet to consummate the marriage.
She knew that in a few years, he would find various excuses to seize all her assets and then scheme to humiliate and kill her, finally dumping her body into a mass grave to be eaten by wild dogs and pecked by birds, leaving no trace behind.
Today was a turning point in her fate. Even though Song Linyuan was known for his violent and unpredictable nature, she had no choice but to gamble with him.
She did not want to die!
Song Linyuan did not even look at her. He said languidly, “If you don’t want to, just get lost.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the burly driver, Dao Shisan, grabbed Lan Qingxi by the neck and was about to throw her out of the carriage.
The move almost choked her to death!
With the carriage speeding, being thrown out like this would certainly result in serious injury or death.
She took a deep breath, grasped the carriage beam to prevent herself from being thrown out, and said with difficulty, “I am willing!”
Song Linyuan put down his knife, did not look at her, and just waved his hand.
Dao Shisan then released his grip on Lan Qingxi’s neck, and she coughed violently for a few moments.
Song Linyuan lightly beckoned her with a finger. She lowered her gaze, adjusted her breathing, and slowly approached him.
She obediently knelt in front of his couch and said gently, “Lord, with your lofty aspirations, there are many noble young ladies in the capital who wish to marry you. I am merely a woman of modest appearance and not worthy of your time.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she heard a cold laugh.
Looking up, she saw Song Linyuan’s eyes, as dark as a millennium-old cold pool. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly lowered her head.
He grabbed her chin and said, “You only have a modest appearance?”
Forced to look at him, she saw the mockery and derision in his eyes, as well as his flawless, handsome face.
He was extraordinarily good-looking, especially his eyes, with their slightly upturned corners, dense lashes, and dark pupils that could captivate anyone’s soul.
However, whether from the rumors in the capital or her experiences along the way, she was well aware of how dangerous this man was.
Lan Qingxi suppressed her inner panic and lightly nodded, saying, “I am far less beautiful than Miss Su. If she is a cloud in the sky, I am mere mud on the ground.”
Miss Su was known as the most beautiful woman in the capital and was also an admirer of Song Linyuan.
Song Linyuan looked at her coldly and took up a nearby teacup, splashing the tea across her face.
She was momentarily stunned, inwardly cursing her bad luck.
Song Linyuan took a rough handkerchief and wiped her face, then pulled her chin and forced her to look at a bronze mirror: “Is this what you call a modest appearance?”
In the mirror, the woman’s collapsed eyebrows, heavy yellow complexion, flattened nose, and painted red lips had transformed into a stunning beauty.
Lan Qingxi’s heart raced—he had discovered that she had been disguising her appearance!
Song Lin Yuan looked at her with eyes as sharp as a wolf sensing blood. “The last person who deceived me is now buried under grass that’s grown a person high.”
His nose was almost touching hers, his hot breath fanning her face. “Speak, how do you want to die?”
Lan Qingxi suppressed the panic inside her, leaned into his embrace, wrapped her arms around his neck, and whispered, “I’d rather die under the Prime Minister.”
Song Lin Yuan: “…”
This answer was beyond his expectations.
He let out a soft laugh and examined her with interest. “You’re bold and thick-skinned, quite interesting.”
His hand began to explore under her skirt, but she grabbed it and forced a smile. “Prime Minister, this isn’t the right place.”
Unlike ordinary carriages, Song Lin Yuan’s carriage was different. It didn’t have wooden boards on all sides but only had a couch and a cabinet.
The outside was covered with a huge, bright red curtain. Though it provided some cover, people outside could still see the silhouettes inside.
Song Lin Yuan’s hand continued its exploration. He said, “I think it’s quite appropriate.”
Outside, Dao Shisan’s voice called out, “Prime Minister, we’ve entered the city.”
The soldiers guarding the city immediately cleared the way for his carriage, pushing aside the others waiting to enter.
Once they passed through the city gate, the surrounding area erupted into a cacophony of voices.
Song Lin Yuan’s hand delved deeper, and Lan Qingxi desperately grabbed it, her mind buzzing at the sight of the bustling crowd outside.
He leaned closer to her ear and whispered, “I’ve never tried doing this in front of so many people. Just thinking about it is quite exciting.”
Lan Qingxi: “…”
Exciting my foot, he’s simply a pervert!
She looked at him, his eyes filled with excitement. His other hand was firmly gripping her waist, pressing her body against his. “Tonight, I’ll fulfill your wish to die under me.”
Lan Qingxi’s mind was in a whirl. What should she do?
Before she could come up with a plan, a voice from outside announced, “I’ve come to see Prime Minister Song!”
Lan Qingxi’s heart, which had just begun to slow down, started racing wildly again.
Though she and Yu Junshu, the young master of the Wan Hu Hou family, detested each other and wished the other harm, neither of them would expect the current scene.
If Yu Junshu knew what was happening inside, he would not wait for Lan Qingxi to plan her escape; he would certainly deal with her himself!
Song Lin Yuan chuckled lightly. “Young Master Yu, what a coincidence.”
As he spoke, his hand didn’t stop exploring.
Lan Qingxi was almost going mad!
She bit her lip hard, trying not to make any sound.
From outside, Yu Junshu could only see vague shadows inside the carriage. Though he couldn’t see clearly, it was evident that there was a woman under Song Lin Yuan.
Everyone in the capital knew that Song Lin Yuan wielded great power and was notoriously indulgent. It was no surprise to see him behaving scandalously inside his carriage.
Yu Junshu smiled and said, “It’s indeed a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Song here today.”
He leaned a bit closer to Song Lin Yuan and whispered, “What about my previous proposal? Have you considered it?”
Song Lin Yuan asked, “Which proposal?”
Yu Junshu smiled mysteriously. “Prime Minister, you’ve seen Lan Qingxi’s portrait. You know she’s a rare beauty.”
“If you’re willing to give me the position of the Minister of the Household, I’ll present her to you.”
