Chapter 6: First, Serve Me Well!
Lan Qingxi’s heart raced, but she was certain of one thing: Song Linyuan was not himself at this moment.
His intense desire was mixed with destructive, malicious thoughts. He was frantic and violent, with eyes that were wickedly crimson.
Lan Qingxi’s hand climbed up his neck, and she pinched the back of his neck firmly. “Lord, calm down!”
The pressure on the acupoint reached Song Linyuan’s mind. Although he became somewhat clearer, his eyes were even more frenzied. He looked down at the woman in his arms.
She appeared gentle and obedient, her almond-shaped eyes holding a hint of moisture, like a frightened fawn in the forest, evoking a protective instinct.
But for something so beautiful, he only wanted to destroy it!
He grasped her slender waist and cruelly said, “You’re so unscrupulous in your seduction. Tonight, I will grant your wish.”
His male aura swept over her in a domineering manner, as if to engulf her.
At this moment, Lan Qingxi knew clearly that a sober him was even more dangerous than when he was out of his senses.
Lan Qingxi anxiously said, “Lord, don’t do this!”
Song Linyuan’s rapid breathing and hot breath sprayed on her neck as he asked in a hoarse voice, “Don’t do what? What is ‘this’?”
His scorching male aura, mixed with extreme wildness, overwhelmed her. Without hesitation, she pulled out a hairpin and thrust it forcefully into the acupoint at the back of his neck.
He didn’t faint as she had hoped. Instead, he became completely sober, his boiling desire suppressed.
Lan Qingxi noticed his halted movements and asked, “Lord, do you feel better now?”
Before Song Linyuan could respond, an arrow shot toward him. He moved her aside to avoid it.
Several men in black with large knives rushed toward Song Linyuan, brimming with murderous intent.
Lan Qingxi’s heart raced. As expected of a notorious treacherous minister, he had been attacked twice in a single day. How many people wanted him dead?
Song Linyuan wielded his knife, cutting down several of the black-clad men as if slicing through watermelons.
As he dealt with the last black-clad man, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, his vision darkening. His hand shook, causing his final strike to miss.
The black-clad man wasn’t dead. With his knife, he swung again toward Song Linyuan.
Realizing the situation was dire, Lan Qingxi quickly took out a pouch of powder from her embrace and threw it at the black-clad man.
It was lime powder. When it got into his eyes, the man screamed in pain.
Song Linyuan looked at Lan Qingxi, whose palms were now covered in sweat, her heart racing. She grasped his hand and said, “Lord, let’s hurry!”
Song Linyuan, suffering intensely, wanted to see what Lan Qingxi was up to, so he let her pull him forward.
At this moment, the Medicine King Temple was ablaze. Song Linyuan’s guards had been moved elsewhere. His chest was in severe pain, and he wanted to see what Lan Qingxi intended.
Tonight’s events seemed to be different from the previous time, presenting another opportunity for her.
Previously, without this fire, she had been sent into Song Linyuan’s room by Old Madam Qu and had not come out.
The next day, she heard that a group of black-clad men had broken into the Medicine King Temple that night, killing many worshippers.
Now, she had set a fire early, making a big commotion. Song Linyuan’s guards were not by his side, and the assassins had acted sooner.
The temple was now in chaos, with cries of agony everywhere.
Lan Qingxi didn’t lead Song Linyuan out but took him to the abbot’s meditation room and shut the door.
With chaos outside, everyone was running away, including the abbot. The assassins remained outside, making the outside even more dangerous.
Lan Qingxi extinguished the lights in the room and walked over to Song Linyuan, asking, “Lord, are you alright?”
Song Linyuan glanced at her under the dim light from the eaves outside the house. She appeared delicate and fragile, like a flower blooming for the first time in the midnight, seemingly as if she would shatter with a single touch.
However, the actions she had taken in front of him today were beyond mere boldness.
He raised his eyebrows slightly, looking at her sideways, and asked in return, “Do you want me to be well or not?”
Lan Qingxi lowered her gaze obediently and said, “Of course, I hope you are well. But right now, you don’t seem to be in good condition.”
She had just secretly checked his pulse. It was very irregular, not only because of a severe poison he had suffered from before but also due to an extremely potent spring medicine he had ingested today.
She had just used a hairpin to suppress the effects of the spring medicine, but the poison in his body had still flared up.
She knew that although he looked as if he were in perfect health, he was actually in considerable pain.
This was the best chance for her to gain his trust.
However, working with such a dangerous man was like seeking skin from a tiger, and she had no other choice.
Song Linyuan asked, “Tell me, where does it seem that I am not well?”
Lan Qingxi responded, “The poison in your body is severe. Although I tried to suppress it, it cannot be completely eradicated.”
“When your body is out of balance, the poison cannot be suppressed.”
“It’s like today when you were affected by a low-quality medicine, it disrupted the balance of your body…”
In the next moment, Song Linyuan’s hand was on her neck, gripping tightly: “You seem to know quite a bit.”
“Since you dislike having others know these secrets, it’s a pity for your face that’s as beautiful as jade.”
His grip was deadly; if he had not been suffering from poison, this action could have killed her.
But she was prepared. As he grabbed her, she desperately struck at his acupoint.
His arm lost strength instantly, and she struggled free, quickly saying, “I can cure the poison!”
Song Linyuan looked at her with interest, a slight smile playing on his lips: “You can cure the poison? Then do you know what poison I have?”
Lan Qingxi knew that although he was smiling, he was still extremely dangerous and could take her life at any moment.
There were assassins outside, and she fought to suppress her coughing, quickly saying, “I don’t know what poison you have.”
“But since there is poison, there must be a way to cure it. Please trust me this once and give me a chance.”
“You have seen my medicinal ointment; it relieves headaches instantly. I have also just needled your acupoints, maintaining clarity in your spirit.”
The dim light from outside partially illuminated his handsome face, casting shifting shadows that made him seem unfathomable.
Lan Qingxi’s heart raced, but she knew he had not moved to harm her further, so she still had a chance.
She continued, “You also know my situation. Yu Junshu offered me to you and has his eyes on my dowry.”
“Once I lose my value, he will surely kill me to make way for his new bride.”
“If you can be my backing, I will certainly do everything in my power to cure the poison for you.”
She knew that for someone like Song Linyuan, she needed to actively present her shortcomings to him for him to trust her.
Song Linyuan propped his head on one hand and said, “Wanting me to be your backing is not enough just with this.”
Lan Qingxi asked, “What else do you want?”
Song Linyuan’s narrow phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, filled with danger: “You need to serve me well in bed first.”
