Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 20
One day, a young girl was walking her dog along the beach. Her name was Maggie. Suddenly, her dog started running ahead.
“Hey, Aero! Wait for me!” Maggie called, chasing after him.
When she finally caught up, she froze — there was someone lying unconscious on the sand.
“Oh no!” Maggie gasped, then turned and ran back the way she came.
She burst into the house, shouting, “Mom! Something terrible happened!” and tugged at her mother Laura’s sleeve as she cooked.
Laura, startled, said, “It’s dangerous here, go play somewhere else!”
But Maggie insisted, “No, Mom, I’m serious! It’s really bad!”
Laura frowned. “What’s so bad?”
“There’s someone lying on the beach!”
“What!?” Laura exclaimed, wiping her hands on her apron.
Maggie grabbed her hand. “Come on, this way!”
Reluctantly, Laura followed her daughter down to the beach — and there she saw it too. A man, lying motionless on the shore.
She rushed over and began pulling him to where the waves couldn’t reach.
Maggie quickly joined in. “I’ll help too!” she said, grabbing the man’s clothes and pulling with all her might.
“Do you think… he’s dead?” she whispered.
They dragged him far enough up the sand, and Laura leaned down, pressing her ear against his chest.
“Thank goodness… he’s alive!” she breathed in relief.
But before she could calm down, Aero started barking a short distance away.
“That’s Aero!” Maggie shouted and ran toward the sound.
“Mom! Over here!”
Laura hurried over — and found more people washed up on the beach. Grabbing one by the arm, she started pulling them up too. “Maggie, go get your father and the doctor! Quickly!”
“Okay, got it!” Maggie shouted, and ran off as fast as she could.
When Hōsen-sai opened his eyes, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.
“Where… am I? That’s right—my wife, my children…”
He quickly sat up.
“You’re awake,” a nurse said kindly.
Kuno’s memories returned in flashes. That’s right… only my family, and Jūbei and the others at the castle… they’re the ones who survived…
Hōsen-sai turned to the nurse. “Were there… others who were saved?”
“Yes,” she nodded. “Including you, there were eight others brought in — even children. What on earth happened out there?”
Where is this place…? Hōsen-sai thought, glancing around.
It didn’t look like anywhere he knew. Then, memories struck — their planet, shattered and scorched by falling meteors.
He realized this was not his home world.
Whoever these people are… they rescued us. They don’t seem like enemies. But until I understand our situation, it’s better to keep our origins secret… When the nurse asked, “Do you feel any pain? Are you alright?”
He quickly answered, “I… don’t remember much from before I was rescued,” feigning confusion.
A short while later, Laura and Maggie, who had saved him, came to visit after hearing he’d woken up.
The nurse smiled. “This is the family who found you.”
Hōsen-sai sat up. “You’re the ones who saved me? I can’t thank you enough.”
Maggie grinned proudly. “I’m the one who found you!”
“Oh, you did?” he smiled. “Then thank you very much, little one.”
Laura sighed in relief. “I’m just glad you’re okay… but what happened to you out there?”
The nurse explained, “It seems he’s lost his memory.”
“Oh, you poor thing…” Laura murmured sympathetically.
Then she asked gently, “When you leave the hospital, do you have somewhere to go?”
“No… I don’t,” Hōsen-sai replied.
“Then why don’t you stay with us?”
He shook his head. “Thank you, but… my wife and children are here too. I couldn’t trouble you like that.”
Laura smiled warmly. “Then bring them all! We’d be happy to have everyone.”
“There are many of us,” he hesitated. “It would be too much trouble…”
“It’s fine!” she laughed. “We run a farm, and harvest season’s coming. We could use extra hands.”
“Truly?” Hōsen-sai asked. “After saving us, you’d offer even more help… We’ll do anything we can. Please let us repay you.”
Maggie clapped her hands. “They’re all coming to live with us?”
“Yes,” Laura said. “Can you be nice to them?”
“Yay! I’ve always wanted brothers and sisters! I wonder what we’ll play!”
Laura chuckled. “Well, that settles it.”
Two weeks passed since Hōsen-sai and his family began staying with Laura’s household. During that time, he learned much about this new world — that its science was highly advanced, that some people possessed faint special abilities, and that the nation was at war.
Even with all this progress, war still exists… Humanity never changes, he thought bitterly. That day, as usual, he was helping harvest wheat in the fields.
Laura smiled. “Getting used to it yet? It’s tougher than it looks, huh?”
“At first my legs and back hurt, but I’ve grown used to it now,” Hōsen-sai replied.
But suddenly, an image flashed in his mind — missiles raining down, the fields engulfed in fire. That’s right… after this, Suzaku… The memory struck him.
Just then, a siren blared through the air.
WEEEEE-OOOOH!
A voice announced, “Enemy missile launch detected! Please evacuate to the nearest shelter immediately!” Hōsen-sai knew there wasn’t enough time to run.
He raised his hand. “Suzaku!”
From the sky descended the great vermilion bird. Laura stared, stunned. “What… what is that thing!?”
“There’s no time! I’ll stop the missiles — explanations later!” he shouted.
Suzaku spread its wings and soared into the heavens. Laura watched in awe. “Stop the missiles…?”
In town, people pointed and shouted, “What is that!? Some new weapon!?”
All eyes turned skyward as Suzaku shot down one missile after another, explosions lighting the sky.
When the last one fell, Suzaku descended back to the town. Hōsen-sai dismounted, greeted by Myōju and his children.
Soon, a crowd gathered — everyone wanted to see the hero who had saved their lives. Laura rushed through the people. “That creature — what is it? No, never mind! Thank you for saving the town!”
Before Hōsen-sai could answer, soldiers pushed through the crowd.
“Come with us,” one said, gripping his arm.
“What do you think you’re doing to the man who saved us!?” Laura shouted angrily.
“Stay out of this, woman!” the soldier barked, shoving her aside.
They dragged Hōsen-sai away, taking him to a military research facility. Back at the farm, Laura and Myōju waited anxiously for his return. Then several military vehicles pulled up in front of the house.
“Maybe he’s back!” Laura said, opening the door — only to be pushed back by soldiers.
“His accomplices are here!” one shouted.
They stormed the house, seizing Hōsen-sai’s family and comrades like criminals, and hauled them away. At the research facility, a man introduced himself as Dr. Lucifel.
“I want to know about your power… and that creature. If you cooperate, I’ll guarantee your family’s safety.”
With his loved ones held hostage, Hōsen-sai had no choice but to agree.
Time passed. Under the military’s command, Suzaku was studied and analyzed. Eventually, they built something new — a massive black dragon-shaped weapon. Though weaker than Suzaku, it harnessed human desire and hatred as fuel, amplifying its wielder’s power. With an army of black dragons, the military began invading other nations. But within their ranks, fear grew.
Some officers whispered, “Hōsen-sai is too powerful. What if he seizes control of everything?”
Gradually, suspicion turned into hatred. Hōsen-sai and Suzaku became unwanted within the very army they’d served. Sensing danger, Jūbei broke into the facility, rescuing Hōsen-sai’s family and comrades. Together, they stole a military spacecraft and fled the planet.
Not long after, disaster struck. Whether due to a flaw or the corruption of hatred itself, the black dragons went berserk. The planet — known on Earth as Mars — burned for a hundred days, consumed by fire born from greed and rage.
