Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 25
At that time, in the heavenly realm, a briefing was being held to report to Zeus on policies concerning the mortal world. Lucifer, not wanting anyone to interfere with the scenario he had finally set in motion, had disguised himself as Michael, the Archangel and Zeus’s right-hand man, and slipped into the meeting.
Kronos began to report to Zeus, saying, “Lord Zeus, there seem to be some disturbing developments taking place on Earth…”
But Lucifer, in the guise of Michael, feared that if Zeus’s attention was drawn to the matter, all his plans would be ruined. So he interrupted, saying, “Come to think of it, Kronos, about the issue we’ve had for some time now — how is the reduction of the growing human population progressing?”
Kronos replied, “Ah, yes. Lately, humans have started adapting even to the disasters Lord Poseidon brings about, so…”
Lucifer, still playing Michael, turned to Hades and said, “Hades! If I recall, you’ve been experimenting with a new approach, haven’t you?”
Hades stepped forward and said, “Lord Zeus, with Lady Athena’s counsel, I have been conducting an experiment for some time now in a small island nation.”
Zeus said, “Ho? Athena, you say… Very well, tell me about this experiment!”
Hades began, “Assuming a future without war, we chose a small island nation where war is nearly nonexistent and gave the humans there access to every form of entertainment imaginable. As a result, unintelligent humans began to increase. These simple-minded people raised children just like themselves, and stupidity spread like a contagion. People lost dreams, hope, and ambition, becoming selfish beings who lived only for themselves. Those who could no longer find hope took their own lives; those without energy withdrew into isolation and ceased having offspring. The selfish ones deceived others for their own gain — even resorting to murder. Many drowned themselves in drugs, committing mass killings as well…”
Zeus nodded gravely. “I see… so it proceeds as planned, then?”
But Hades shook his head. “Not exactly. We had intended that only the most capable would remain in positions of leadership and power…”
Zeus frowned. “So that is not the case?”
Hades replied, “No, my lord… The powerful have become drunk with greed. They hand their authority to foolish, easily controlled subordinates in exchange for personal gain. Those foolish ones, in turn, choose leaders driven entirely by vanity and self-interest. Thus, instead of reducing the human population while preserving the capable and weeding out the unworthy, our policy now risks bringing about total extinction. There is much that must be corrected…”
Zeus roared, “Then all you’ve done is replace war with chaos! You’ve created nations ruled by selfish despots who covet what others possess and care nothing for justice — how is that any better!?”
Terrified, Hades bowed and stammered, “I… I will devise countermeasures at once!” Then he hurried out, retreating from Zeus’s wrath.
Zeus slammed his hand on the armrest. “What a waste of time! Bring me a proper report next time, or don’t bother showing your face!” he thundered. With that, the assembly was dismissed.
Lucifer, relieved, muttered under his breath, “It seems I managed to keep Zeus in the dark… Best to disappear before Michael arrives,” and vanished from the heavens.
Meanwhile, Astraeus, who had been unable to deliver his own report, was leaving when he crossed paths with the real Michael, who was late because Lucifer had sent him false information. Astraeus blinked in confusion, thinking, But wasn’t he just standing beside Lord Zeus a moment ago…?
Michael demanded, “What happened to the briefing before Lord Zeus!?”
Astraeus, bewildered, answered, “What are you talking about!? Lord Zeus declared that it was a waste to hear any more and ordered us to bring proper reports next time. The meeting was postponed!”
Michael frowned. “Postponed…? Hmph. So that’s how it is…”
