- Chapter 29 – Pandora’s Box
Suddenly, a black dragon was spotted in the sky. From the Providence Defense Force base, Byakko took off to intercept it.
A fierce battle unfolded in the sky between the black dragon and Byakko, but once again, Byakko had the upper hand.
Watching from the ground, Booth cheered as the black dragon was shot down. “It looks like it fell over there! Let’s go check it out!” he shouted, dashing off toward the direction where the dragon had fallen.
“It’s dangerous! You shouldn’t go there!
Don’t blame me if Helios gets mad at you later!” Nick warned.
Booth turned around and yelled, “I’m not scared of Helios! You’re such a coward, Nick!” Then he ran off, ignoring him.
Nick hurried to find Helios. “Helios, Booth—”
Helios frowned. “What’s wrong? I can’t understand you if you’re crying.”
Nick sniffled. “I told him it was dangerous and not to go, but Booth… Booth—”
Helios grabbed him by the shoulders. “What about Booth!?”
Nick blurted, “He went to see where the black dragon fell!”
“What!?” Helios exclaimed. “Nick, stay here and wait!” Without another word, he sprinted toward the direction of the crash.
At the crash site, there was a large hole in the ground. Booth leaned over and peered into it. “Did it fall in here?” he murmured curiously.
Just as Helios caught up and grabbed Booth by the collar, “What are you doing!? That’s dangerous—”
The black dragon suddenly burst out of the hole.
“Watch out!” Helios cried, pulling Booth close to shield him. But the ground beneath them gave way,
and both of them tumbled down into the darkness below.
“Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?” Helios asked quickly.
Booth only cried harder, too frightened to speak.
Helios stood up and looked around. Light streamed down from above, but the surroundings were dim and shadowy.
“It’s pretty deep… how do we get out of here?” he muttered, squinting into the gloom.
Scattered around were fragments of pottery, and among them, something white was sticking out.
“What’s that?” Helios wondered aloud. He reached down and pulled it out— it was a bone.
Startled, Helios immediately dropped it, falling back in shock and landing on his hands.
As he hit the ground, his hand pressed against a wooden box, cracking it open—and a splinter cut his palm.
“Ow!” He looked at his hand—bl00d was flowing.
“Helios, are you hurt? Are you okay?” Booth asked, worried.
“It’s just a scratch. Don’t worry,” Helios reassured him. Then he glanced back at the shattered box.
“But why would something like this be here…?”
Just as he reached toward the box again, the light above dimmed suddenly.
Helios looked up— the black dragon was peering down at them from the hole.
“I’m scared!” Booth cried, clinging to Helios and sobbing harder.
Helios held him close. “It’s okay. I’m here.”
Then, silently, he prayed, “God… please, save Booth, at least.”
At that moment, a brilliant light burst from the broken box below. It shone directly onto Helios’s wrist.
When the light faded, a golden dragon mark gleamed on his wrist.
Helios winced at the sharp sting, and then—out of nowhere—Suzaku appeared, striking the black dragon away with a flash of light.
The next instant, both Helios and Booth were swallowed up by Suzaku’s glow.
The pilot of the black dragon watched in shock. “A new enemy? No one told me about this! I have to retreat and report this!”
He turned the dragon and quickly flew off.
Beside Helios, Booth’s eyes were sparkling. “Whoa! That was amazing! So cool!”
But Helios… Helios could only stare at his glowing wrist, still unable to understand what had just happened to him.
