Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 30 – Awakening
At Providence Headquarters, tension filled the air as Suzaku suddenly appeared.
Commander Mac, startled, asked, “Is that a new enemy weapon?” Then, calling out, he said, “Tia, get to the site immediately with Genbu.” “Yes, sir! I’ll head there right away!” Tia replied, and launched Genbu at once.
Mac frowned. “Animus has already been growing stronger with their black dragon development. If they’ve made a new type now, this could be serious trouble…”
He turned sharply. “Camille, connect me to Director Hodges!” They needed to report immediately.
Meanwhile, Helios was still sitting atop Suzaku, unsure what to do. Next to him, Booth pointed to the sky. “Ah! It’s Genbu!”
Genbu landed in front of Suzaku, shifting into a battle stance. “Well then, let’s see what you can do!” Tia said confidently.
The two dragons glared at each other. Suzaku stood perfectly still, showing no sign of movement.
The silence stretched. “Why isn’t it attacking?” Tia muttered. “Trying to act calm? If that’s how you want it…” She was just about to attack when—
“Umm, excuse me…” a voice came from Suzaku.
Genbu nearly stumbled in surprise. Then the voice spoke again, “Do you know how I’m supposed to get down from here?”
Tia blinked. A new kind of enemy? she wondered. “Who are you?” she asked sharply.
Helios answered, “I’m Helios. I live at the orphanage on the hill.” Beside him, Booth cheerfully added, “I’m Booth!”
“If you’re not enemies, then what’s with this thing? And why are there two of you?” Tia asked.
She got off Genbu, looking up at Suzaku. “Hey, come down here.”
“I’d like to, but… I don’t know how,” Helios said awkwardly.
“If it’s the same as Genbu,” Tia replied, “then you just have to want to come down. If you wish it, it’ll happen.”
Helios thought, I want to get down…
Then a voice echoed in his head. “At last, I can communicate. I am Suzaku—pleased to make your acquaintance.” The voice added, “Now then…”
And softly, gently, Helios and Booth floated down, landing before Tia.
The moment Booth touched the ground, he dashed forward and hugged her. “Big sister! You ride Genbu? Thank you for always protecting everyone from the black dragons!” he said with pure innocence.
Tia blinked, surprised that a child had come down—and hugged her! “That’s right. Genbu is my partner. Protecting everyone with Genbu is my job,” she said proudly.
“Wow, that’s so cool!” Booth’s eyes sparkled with admiration.
Tia smiled. “Believe it or not, I have the highest ESP rating in all of Providence!” she said, puffing her chest.
But when she turned to Helios, her expression hardened. “Is this one with you?” she asked, glaring.
“Uh, well… when I realized it, I was already inside,” Helios said, scratching his head. As he did, a golden dragon mark on his wrist shimmered in the light.
“What’s that on your wrist?” Tia asked.
Helios looked down, finally noticing it. “What the—? What is this!?” He shook his hand, trying to remove it, but it wouldn’t come off.
“Look at this,” Tia said, rolling up her sleeve to show the same kind of mark on her own wrist.
Helios stared. “We match…”
“It’s not like we’re matching on purpose!” Tia huffed. “This is throwing me off!”
Still, she thought to herself, Could he be… the other Trinity—the one Providence couldn’t find, no matter how many Espers we sent?
Shaking her head, she said, “Anyway, we need to report this to headquarters! You, come with me!”
Helios blinked. “Come with you? But—” Tia didn’t seem to hear, already starting a transmission.
“Yes, I believe he’s the Trinity we’ve been searching for… Understood… Yes, I’ll bring him in immediately,” she reported, then ended the call.
Tia turned to him. “Alright, let’s go! Follow me!”
Helios hesitated. “Wait, wait! Booth’s with me, and we left Nick behind! He’s still waiting!”
“You’ve got two kids?” Tia asked, surprised.
Placing a hand on Booth’s head, Helios said, “Do we look related? No! I just want to take them back to the orphanage. They must be worried!”
“Fine, fine. We’ll swing by, pick up that Nick kid, and go to the orphanage first. Lead the way,” Tia said.
“If that’s the case…” Helios started walking.
Tia sighed. “Are you stupid? Ride it!”
A voice echoed in Helios’s mind again. “Such a rude woman—calling me ‘it’ and ‘that thing.’ I’ll have you know I am Suzaku!”
Helios couldn’t help but snort a laugh.
“What are you laughing at!?” Tia snapped, glaring.
“How do I get on?” Helios asked.
“If it recognizes you, just tell it to let you on,” Tia explained.
In his head, Suzaku grumbled, “Honestly, what a foul-mouthed woman!”
Helios smiled wryly. “She says her name is Suzaku,” he told Tia.
Meanwhile, Booth tugged at Tia’s arm. “Can I ride Genbu? Please?”
Tia sighed. “Alright, alright,” and helped him climb aboard.
Helios looked up. “Can you let me on?” he asked Suzaku.
“Understood.”
Helios’s body lifted off the ground, gently pulled into Suzaku.
Tia and Helios picked up Nick on the way, then headed back to the orphanage.
When Suzaku and Genbu landed in front of it, children ran out, gathering around the dragons in excitement.
Watching Tia warmly interact with them, Helios thought, She’s rude, but kind to kids.
“She doesn’t seem like a bad person,” Suzaku’s voice murmured in his mind.
Helios explained everything to the Sister and told her he had to go with Tia to Providence Headquarters.
“Oh my, that sounds serious… You’ll be back by dinner, right?” she said, as if they were going on a simple outing.
Helios glanced at Tia.
“How should I know!?” Tia snapped.
“Sorry, Sister… sounds like we don’t know when we’ll be back,” Helios said.
“I see. Well then, take care,” the Sister said gently.
As Helios followed Tia away, he couldn’t help but wonder, Did she really understand what I just explained…?
When they reached Providence Headquarters, Helios was guided straight into Director Hodges’s office.
Seated at his desk, Hodges asked, “You’re Helios?”
“Yes, sir!” Helios replied, standing stiffly.
“I’ve heard the situation from Tia,” Hodges said. “Why did you activate the Trinity?”
“Activate…? I didn’t do anything—”
Hodges cut him off. “The military had prepared high-level Espers in case the Trinity was found. Yet somehow, you—a civilian—were chosen.”
He sighed. “There’s no helping it now. I’m sorry, but as of today, you’ll be enlisted in the military.”
“What!? Me, a soldier?” Helios exclaimed.
“This is an order!” Hodges declared.
A knock came at the door. “Come in,” Hodges said.
Commander Mac entered. “Excuse me, sir. We’ve finished investigating the Trinity site.”
“And?” Hodges asked.
“We found five jars—some broken—inside the hole,” Mac reported. “Each contained human bones. They’d been arranged in a pyramid formation, with the Trinity at the center. We believe the jars formed a kind of barrier.”
“So the black dragon just happened to crash there…” Hodges murmured. “Understood. You’ll be in charge of Helios from now on.”
“Yes, sir,” Mac said. Turning to Helios, he added, “Come with me.”
Helios followed him out of the room.
“For now, we’ll measure your ESP level,” Mac said. By this time, a device to measure such power had already been developed.
As they walked down the hall, they passed a man leaning against the wall.
“Aris, what’s wrong?” Mac asked.
Aris smirked. “Just wanted to see what kind of guy stole the Trinity that was supposed to be mine.”
“I didn’t steal anything!” Helios protested.
“Enough. Get back to your post,” Mac ordered.
“Yeah, yeah,” Aris muttered, pushing off the wall. As he passed Helios, he sneered. “I’ll never acknowledge you!”
And with that, he walked away.
