Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 31 – Ace
Helios was led by Commander Mack to a place that looked like a laboratory. When they stopped at the entrance, something like a laser scanner flashed over Commander Mack. Then, a voice said, “Commander Mack confirmed,” and the automatic door slid open.
Once inside, Commander Mack called out, “Sid, sorry, but can you urgently measure this man’s ESP ability?” Sid replied, “So the skeleton remains we recovered can wait, right?” Mack nodded. “This takes priority.”
Sid turned to Helios. “What’s your name?” “Helios,” he answered. “I’ll report the results once they’re ready,” Sid said to Mack. Then, glancing at Helios, he added, “Alright, Helios, this way,” and guided him into a room filled with measuring instruments.
Sometime later, Commander Mack had returned to the control room. Sid’s face appeared on the monitor before him. “Mack, the results are ready.”
“What are they?” Mack asked. Sid replied, “At rest, his ESP level is 7,800. It seems that instead of anger, his power increases further when he’s trying to protect someone.”
“That can’t be right,” Mack said, frowning. “Mares is 3,800, and even Tia’s only 4,300.”
Sid shook his head. “I thought it was a machine error too, but I recalibrated and tested several times. The result didn’t change.”
Mack leaned back, deep in thought. Things have only been getting worse lately… but maybe this one could be our savior.
“Tell Helios that Tia will come to escort him,” Mack ordered Sid. Then he turned to another officer. “Camille, gather Mares and Ares in the meeting room. Tell Tia to go meet Sid and bring Helios back.”
When Helios arrived in the meeting room with Tia, Commander Mack, Camille, Ares, and Mares were already there.
“Let me introduce him,” Mack said. “This is Helios, our newest recruit. You’ve already met Tia, I believe.” He gestured to the right. “This is Lieutenant Camille, who will issue your mission orders. Next to her is Major Ares—you met him earlier in the hall. And beside him is Lieutenant Mares, Ares’s older brother, who commands the White Tiger.”
“If you have any questions about enlistment procedures, ask Camille. As for Trinity matters, Tia—you’ll show him the ropes.”
Helios raised his hands slightly. “Wait, hold on. Everyone’s talking like I’ve already joined. But I was just a civilian yesterday. Even if you tell me to fight, I don’t think I’ll be much help…”
Ares scowled. “This guy’s just going to slow us down! Leave the Trinity here and go home to bed!”
“Even if you tell me to leave it behind…” Helios started, but Tia cut him off. “You’re a man, aren’t you? Then face it head-on!”
Mares chuckled. “I get where Ares is coming from, but if he can lighten our load even a little, I’m all for it. Right, Tia?” He looked at her, and Ares shot his brother a sharp glare. Tia sighed. “Well, if he can actually be useful.” She looked at Helios with a teasing grin.
“I think we can expect great things from him,” Mack said. “According to the ESP test, his base level is 7,800.”
Ares’s eyes went wide. “What?! Mine’s only 3,500—that’s more than double! The machine must be broken!” Mack shook his head. “I thought the same at first, but Sid ran multiple tests. The readings were consistent.”
Mares laughed. “Looks like the Queen’s been bumped down to second place.” Tia glared at him. “You’re third now, so don’t get cocky!”
A few days later, Tia, Mares, and Helios were in the meeting room.
“Tia,” Helios asked, “does the Suzaku’s attack have any form other than physical strikes?” Tia sighed. “You’re ranked first, so figure it out yourself! And stop calling me senpai! It’s annoying!”
“Then what should I call you?”
“Tia’s fine!” she snapped.
“Come on, teach him properly,” Mares said. “Mack asked you to train him.” Tia folded her arms. “Fine. In close combat, it’s all about strikes. For long-range support, the White Tiger uses Rainbow Thunder, and the Black Tortoise uses Crystal Arrow.”
Mares nodded eagerly. “Yeah, Rainbow Thunder is kinda like a beam. Picture shooting down a Black Dragon.”
“Did the White Tiger come up with that name?” Helios asked.
“Nope, I did!” Mares grinned. “Names make it easier to visualize. Cool, huh?”
Helios smiled. “Then what about Crystal Arrow?”
Tia narrowed her eyes. “What, are you saying it sounds lame?!”
“No, no,” Helios said quickly. “I was just wondering what I should name mine…”
Tia huffed. “Don’t think you’ll be able to use it so soon! And even if you can, don’t overuse it!”
“Why not? Wouldn’t a beam be easier to fight with?”
“That’s exactly why rookies are annoying!” Tia snapped. “Crystal Arrow drains your stamina fast. Even I can only use it seven times per mission.”
“I can manage five on a good day,” Mares added. “But I usually keep it under three. It’s exhausting.”
Tia crossed her arms. “You’re just lazy.”
Mares laughed. “A finishing move’s only cool when you use it at the right moment. If you’re too tired to pull it off when it counts, that’s just sad.”
“In any case, you’re not using anything until you’ve trained properly,” Tia said. “We haven’t even done sparring yet. I don’t need you accidentally blasting me.”
“How about sparring with me, then?” Mares suggested. “If you fight Tia before real combat, you’ll just get wrecked.”
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Just as Tia was about to speak, sirens blared through the base. A voice crackled through their headsets: “Black Dragon sighted southwest. Tia, Mares—head to the scene immediately.” It was Camille.
“Tia, let’s move!” Mares shouted.
“I’m coming too!” Helios said.
“You haven’t even trained yet!” Tia barked. “You’ll just get in the way!”
“But… just waiting here…” Helios said, frustration on his face.
Mares gave him a nod. “Then protect the civilians until Ares and the others arrive for evacuation.”
Helios straightened. “Understood!”
With that, he ran off, determination burning in his eyes.
