Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 33 - Secret
After that, there were several more attacks from the Black Dragons, but thanks to Helios and his team, peace on Earth was maintained.
One day, Helios was asked by Commander Mac to deliver some documents to Sid.
When he reached Sid’s room, he stopped in front of the door— inside, he could hear Tia and Sid arguing.
“I told you before, I’m not getting that surgery!” Tia shouted. Sid’s voice rose in reply, “But this tumor is growing little by little! If we leave it alone, it’ll threaten your life!”
“I said I don’t care if I die, as long as I don’t lose my ability!” she yelled back. Sid’s tone softened. “Tia, I don’t want you to die.” Tia snapped, “If I’m going to die lying helpless in a bed, I’d rather fight until the very end! This conversation’s over. If you’re done, I’m leaving!”
She yanked the door open— and there stood Helios, frozen mid-step, caught at the worst possible moment.
Tia blinked. “What are you doing here?” Helios quickly raised the folder in his hand. “Mac asked me to bring this to Sid… What about you?” Tia huffed. “I just came to get some medicine.”
“Are you okay? Are you sick or something?” Helios asked, his tone full of concern. “It’s none of your business!” she snapped, glaring at him before storming off down the hall.
Helios sighed, then knocked on the door twice. “Come in,” Sid’s voice answered.
“Excuse me,” Helios said, stepping inside. “Mac asked me to deliver this.” He handed the folder to Sid, then hesitated. “About Tia… is she alright?”
Sid looked up from the file. “You heard our conversation, didn’t you?”
Helios nodded awkwardly. “When I got to the door, I could hear her yelling, so…”
“I see…” Sid murmured. He fell silent for a while, then began to speak softly.
“Tia was brought here when she was around eleven. She’d gone shopping with her mother at a department store when she suddenly collapsed with a terrible pain in her head—like her skull was splitting apart.”
He continued, “The pain triggered her power to run wild. By the time she came to, everything within a hundred meters around her had been completely wiped out. Her father, realizing he couldn’t handle her, called for help. That’s how she ended up here.”
Helios frowned. So that’s how she came to Providence… but what’s the link between her headaches and her powers?
Sid went on quietly, “She blamed herself for killing her mother and everyone nearby. Tests revealed a brain tumor as the cause. Even so, she kept blaming herself. The tumor’s in a very difficult location—it makes surgery dangerous. Even if they operate, her chance of survival isn’t even fifty percent. Still, I urged her to try, since it might save her life…”
Helios’s eyes widened. Tia… has a brain tumor? And that’s what caused all of that…? It was hard to believe—she was always so strong, so fierce.
“But she refuses,” Sid said. “She believes it’s punishment for what happened. She’d rather die than struggle to live by risking others again. She chose instead to use her powers to save people—to fight alongside Xuanwu. As her power grows, so does the tumor. Surgery has become safer over the years, but the procedure might rob her of her ability. As someone who’s watched over her all this time… I want her to take that chance, but…”
Helios swallowed. “If she doesn’t get surgery… how long does she have left?”
Sid shook his head. “I can’t say. The medicine suppresses the symptoms, but she must be enduring terrible pain.”
He sighed, then added, “Please, don’t mention this to anyone. She hates being pitied more than anything. She may have a sharp tongue, but she’s a kind girl at heart. Take care of her, will you?”
Helios nodded firmly. “I understand.” And deep inside, he thought, I have to end this war soon.
Silence lingered between them, until Sid suddenly snapped his fingers. “Ah, that’s right.”
“About the Black Dragon you shot down—after retrieving and examining it, we discovered something. The stronger the hatred in its pilot’s heart, the more the dragon’s power increases. We managed to capture one of the soldiers too. It seems they’ve been brainwashed—to hate Providence with everything they have. Could you report that to Mac for me?”
“Understood!” Helios said, standing and giving a quick nod before leaving the room.
From that day on, Helios began volunteering for the front lines.
