- Chapter 34 – Desperate Situation
Helios, Males, and Tia were having lunch together in the cafeteria.
Tia looked at Helios and said, “You’ve been pushing yourself too hard lately, haven’t you?”
Helios replied, “I don’t have much real battle experience, so I need to get used to it quickly.”
Males laughed and said, “I’m fine with taking it easy.” Tia glared at him. “You should try harder!” Then she turned back to Helios. “But you—don’t overdo it and get yourself hurt, okay?”
Just then—
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
A voice came through their headsets. “Enemy approaching from the south-southeast! Head to the site immediately! Be cautious—it appears to be a new type,” Camille instructed.
Helios quickly shoveled the rest of his curry into his mouth, washed it down with water, and sprinted out of the cafeteria.
Males grumbled, “We’re still eating…” Tia cut him off, “Just move! Let’s go!” and dashed out after Helios.
As Males stood up, he noticed a small pouch on the floor. “Hey, you dropped this!” he called, picking it up and hurrying after her.
When Helios reached the scene, he spotted the enemy. It’s bigger—much bigger than the usual black ones! he thought, then reported to headquarters.
“This is Helios. Enemy sighted—a large blue one, bigger than usual. No sign of the black units nearby.”
Only one? Does it think it can win alone? Helios wondered. Let’s test it with a strike first—
But before he could act, the Blue Dragon attacked first. Suzaku blocked its punch with his left arm and countered with a blow to its abdomen. Normally, that one hit would bring down a Black Dragon, but this one barely flinched.
“This one’s strong!” Helios muttered, retreating to create distance.
Just then, Byakko arrived, and a fierce close-range battle began—Blue Dragon versus Suzaku and Byakko.
Helios and Males were struggling more than usual when Tia arrived, having finished the evacuation. “What’s taking you so long against just one?” she shouted.
“This thing’s stronger than the black ones!” Helios shouted back.
“Then I’ll take it down myself!” Tia declared, and Genbu fired a Crystal Arrow—but the Blue Dragon dodged it with ease.
“It’s fast—for something that big!” Tia growled and charged straight into the melee.
Byakko launched an attack, leapt back, and Suzaku followed up with a Hell Cyclone, but again, the Blue Dragon evaded.
Then Tia dove in for an attack—but suddenly screamed, “Ah! My head!” She clutched her temples, and Genbu froze mid-air.
In that instant, the Blue Dragon’s strike landed squarely, sending Genbu crashing straight down into the ground.
“Tia! What happened?!” Males shouted.
“Tia! Are you okay?!” Helios called out.
From their headsets came Tia’s anguished voice—“My head… aaAAAAAHHHH!!”
“Take your medicine—now!” Helios yelled. But Tia cried back, “I don’t have it!” her voice shaking with panic.
Males’ eyes widened. The pouch…! He grabbed it and opened it—inside were small pills. “This must be it!”
“I’m coming, hang on!” he shouted, diving straight toward the fallen Genbu.
Helios, distracted by worry, was struck hard by the Blue Dragon’s attack. “Helios! You okay?!” Males shouted. “I’m fine! Just go—get to Tia!” Helios answered.
But even as he spoke, his mind was clouded with concern, and another attack slammed into him.
Byakko landed in front of Genbu, and Males climbed out of his cockpit, stepping onto Byakko’s palm.
“I’ve got your medicine—hang on!” he said as Byakko reached out to Genbu.
A beam of light connected the two machines, and a trembling Tia emerged, clutching her head.
Males handed her the pouch. She quickly took the medicine, breathing heavily. “Thank you… you saved me.” Males smirked. “You’re being unusually polite today.”
Normally, she’d snap back—but she said nothing.
“Let us handle that thing,” Males told her. “You just rest.”
“I’m fine. Just need a moment—then I’ll be back,” Tia said, climbing back into Genbu.
Males nodded. “Let’s go help Helios!” he said.
Just then, Helios’ voice cried out, “Look out!!”
A powerful beam shot from the Blue Dragon—headed straight for Byakko. Tia barely managed to throw Genbu’s arm forward, shielding Males.
He avoided a direct hit—but the impact sent him flying, crashing violently into the ground.
“Males!!” Tia screamed, jumping down from Genbu and running to him. She shouted into her headset, “Males is down! Ares, send the medics now!”
Kneeling beside him, she trembled. “He… he protected me… Males, open your eyes! Ares, please hurry!”
“I’m on my way!” Ares shouted, boarding a rescue craft. God, please… save my brother… he prayed.
Meanwhile, Helios clenched his fists. If only I’d fought better… If I hadn’t lost focus… His eyes burned with rage, and he charged at the Blue Dragon, attacking with wild fury.
On the ground, the rescue team reached Males. Tia sat beside him, sobbing uncontrollably. “It’s my fault… Males…!”
“Miss Tia, please step back!” one medic said.
At that moment, a golden dragon floated out from Males’ arm and vanished into the air.
The medics checked his vitals. “No pulse—cardiac arrest! Hurry, get him aboard!”
Ares stood still, head bowed, silent.
Then, without lifting his head, he shouted, “Tia! What are you doing just standing there?!”
She looked up—tears streaming down her face—and saw drops falling from Ares’ chin.
“What’s your mission?” he demanded.
“…To protect everyone,” she choked out between sobs.
“Then go!” Ares shouted. “You’ve got Genbu! Avenge my brother—for me!”
Tia nodded firmly, wiped her tears, and called, “Genbu!”
Her partner rose, and together, they soared back into the sky.
