Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 37 – Return
A month passed without any further attacks from the Black Dragon or the Azure Dragon.
One day, Helios, Tia, and Ares were summoned by Commander Mack to the meeting room.
When they arrived, they were surprised to find Mares there. Though seated in a wheelchair, Mares smiled warmly at them. “Sorry for making you all worry.”
Tia rushed over and clung to his knees, tears streaming down her face. “Thank goodness…” she cried.
Helios’ eyes grew moist. “You’ve been discharged already.”
Tia trembled as she spoke, “It’s… all my fault…”
Helios glanced at Ares, who was quietly smiling.
“You knew, didn’t you, Ares?” Helios asked.
Ares shrugged. “Of course. He’s my brother.”
Tia glared at him. “Then why didn’t you tell us!?”
Ares raised his hands. “Because Mares told me not to.”
Tia and Helios turned back to Mares. He grinned. “Makes for a more emotional reunion, doesn’t it?”
“You idiot!” Tia cried again, tears flowing. “Do you have any idea how worried I was!?”
Mares chuckled softly. “Sorry, sorry…”
Commander Mack cleared his throat. “Well, now that the touching reunion is over, can we move on to the main topic?”
Once everyone had taken their seats, he began. “I called you all here to report Mares’ discharge and discuss our future structure. As you can see, Mares isn’t in condition to return to active duty. Once he’s fully recovered, I plan to assign him to evacuation guidance and related duties.”
Ares started, “But the White Tiger belongs to Mares—”
Mares cut him off with a faint, bitter smile. “It’s fine. As you can see, I can’t exactly rush out in the White Tiger if there’s another attack.”
Then he laughed lightly. “Might as well take this as a chance to rest. Can’t get any downtime otherwise.”
Commander Mack nodded. “That’s why, Ares — I’m entrusting the White Tiger to you. Focus your training and prepare for any future assaults.”
Mares nodded. “So, I’ll be living a quiet life in some peaceful place with fresh air for a while.”
Mack then turned to Helios. “It’s been a month with no enemy activity. I doubt they’re simply afraid of the Phoenix… Helios, you haven’t been back to the orphanage since you came here, have you? This might be a good time to pay them a visit.”
Helios thought, Come to think of it, I’ve only talked to them over the phone… I wonder if Booth and the others are doing well.
He smiled. “Alright then — I’ll take you up on that.”
Then he turned to Mares. “Mares, do you like kids?”
Mares blinked. “I don’t dislike them. Why?”
Helios grinned. “Then how about recuperating at the orphanage? The air’s clean, and the kids might be noisy, but you’ll never get bored.”
Mares laughed. “That might not be a bad idea. Think you could take me there?”
Helios nodded. “The kids will be thrilled.”
Tia raised her hand eagerly. “Then I’ll go too—!”
But Commander Mack interrupted sharply, “Tia, you’ll be joining Ares’ special training.”
Tia turned toward Ares with a pout, glaring at him with teary eyes.
