Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 41 – Attachment
At that time, Lucifer muttered, “To think the brainwashing could be undone by something as simple as overheating… It seems the time spent on it was insufficient after all.”
Then, suddenly realizing something, Lucifer exclaimed, “This is bad!”
In the next instant, bolts of lightning poured down around Helios and the others.
Ares shouted, “Is it an enemy attack?” — but the lightning showed no distinction, striking both the Black Dragon and their allied ships alike. As they watched one vessel after another sink, Tia gasped, “What’s happening!?”
The lightning showed no mercy, crashing down upon the Phoenix as well.
Helios and the others thought, We can’t dodge this! and squeezed their eyes shut — but no impact came.
When they slowly opened their eyes, standing before them was something shaped like a dragon — crimson in color, towering far larger than even the Phoenix, though its form resembled the Azure Dragon.
Ares asked, “Did… did it just save us?”
Helios looked up. “Who are you…?”
From the crimson dragon came a deep voice: “Who I am doesn’t matter. Helios, we’ve crossed paths a few times before…”
Then it said, “You humans have turned this universe into a battlefield, defiling it — and thus incurred the wrath of the god Zeus. Once this place is cleansed, his lightning will fall next upon Mars and Earth. If you wish to live, flee to another planet.”
Tia whispered, “Mares…”
Helios replied firmly, “I’m grateful you saved us — but I have to go help the children.”
Selene stepped forward. “I’m returning to Mars as well.”
The Crimson Dragon rumbled, “Even if you go, you cannot save them. Not even the Phoenix or Azure Dragon can withstand repeated strikes of that lightning unharmed — and besides, you won’t make it in time… Selene, you don’t even know where the children are.”
Helios clenched his fists. “Even so, I’m going. I can’t just abandon them knowing they’ll die!”
Selene nodded. “If there’s even the slightest chance they can be saved, I’ll go too.”
Tia added, “I’m coming too. I promised Mares I’d come back alive — and if I’m going to die, I want to die by his side.”
Ares crossed his arms. “Then it’s settled. No point in me surviving alone. Besides, you guys need me — without me, you can’t maintain the Phoenix.” He gave a smug grin.
The Crimson Dragon sighed. “Humans truly are foolish creatures… They could save themselves, and yet…”
Then it rumbled, “You choose death knowing the outcome… Very well. I’ll lend you my aid.”
With that, the Crimson Dragon split into two.
One seized the Azure Dragon, the other the Phoenix.
The one holding the Azure Dragon declared, “We’re going to Mars.”
The other said, “We’re heading for Earth.”
Selene started, “But the children’s location—”
“Leave that to me,” the Crimson Dragon replied.
In an instant, it transported them to Mars and Earth.
At that moment, a searing pain shot through Tia’s head. She thought, If I die, the Phoenix won’t hold… Please, just a little longer, hiding the agony from the others.
The Crimson Dragon set the Phoenix down in front of the orphanage and said, “This is as far as I can take you.”
Helios looked up. “Thank you… but why help us at all?”
The Crimson Dragon rumbled softly, “Consider it repayment — you’ve entertained me well until now. The rest is up to your own fortune.”
With that, it vanished in an instant.
Moments later, lightning began to rain down upon Earth and Mars.
After departing those worlds, the Crimson Dragon merged once more into one being. “Anything that defies my will is evil, is it?” it murmured — and to everyone’s surprise, it next flew straight to Zeus.
When Lucifer stood before Zeus, the god ceased casting his lightning.
“Lucifer,” Zeus said, “what brings you here?”
Lucifer knelt. “Most of humanity on Earth and Mars has perished. Please, I beg you, show mercy — let this be enough.”
Zeus frowned. “You, asking a favor of me? What are you plotting this time?”
Lucifer shook his head. “I plot nothing—”
But Zeus cut him off. “Do not deceive me! I know you’ve been pulling strings behind the scenes. What is your goal?”
Lucifer lowered his eyes. “I simply… dislike having all my toys destroyed.”
Zeus scoffed. “You expect me to believe you’d throw yourself into harm’s way merely for that?”
Lucifer replied awkwardly, “It’s just… before I knew it, my body moved on its own…”
Zeus’s expression softened in surprise. “You, moved by sentiment?” Then, with a booming laugh: “So, you’ve been touched by feeling…!”
“You’ve spent so long among humans that you’ve grown attached to them,” Zeus said.
“Lucifer, that is love! For humanity to inspire love in you — how amusing!”
Lucifer looked up. “Then… you’ll spare them?”
But Zeus raised a hand. “That said, I cannot overlook everything that has transpired.”
“Lucifer, your punishment is this: you shall return to the heavens. I will decide your task there later.”
And with that, Zeus vanished before him.
