Writing Love Letters in the Enemy’s Toilet - A Vow of Eternal Love, Even After Rebirth (Transmigration) - Chapter 7
Through Kuno’s hazy vision, two blurry figures slowly came into focus. As they became clearer, he saw the worried faces of Haruka and Osada leaning over him.
“Where… am I?” Kuno asked weakly.
“What are you saying? You’re at Café Original,” Haruka replied.
“You suddenly collapsed—scared us half to death,” Osada said, sounding relieved.
Kuno glanced around, still dazed. Haruka, looking worried, leaned closer and asked, “Are you okay?”
“Could I… have some water first?” Kuno murmured. He reached for the glass on the table and drank it all in one gulp.
After taking a deep breath, he asked, “How long was I out?”
Osada replied, “Four or five minutes, I think. Mitsutomo here was about to call an ambulance!” Then, with a serious tone, he asked, “Are you sure you’re alright? We can take you to the hospital if you want.”
Kuno raised a hand to stop him. “Really, I’m fine.”
He began, “It’s just that while I was unconscious, I had a long dream… and in that dream, your father, Mr. Mitsutomo, was—”
But before he could finish, Haruka’s phone rang, cutting him off.
She glanced at the screen. “It’s from my mom. Excuse me,” she said quickly, hurrying out of the café.
Through the glass, Kuno and Osada could see her talking on the phone. Suddenly, her expression changed to one of shock—and then, as if overwhelmed, she began to cry.
When she returned, her hands trembled as she held her bag. “My father… he woke up! He regained consciousness!” she said, breathless.
She hurriedly tossed her notebook and voice recorder into her bag. “I’m so sorry! Can we continue this another day? I need to get to the hospital right away!”
Kuno stood up. “Really!? Then go! Don’t waste a second—your father needs you!”
“I’m so sorry!” Haruka said again, bowing quickly before dashing out of the café.
For a moment, silence hung between the two men. Then Osada spoke softly. “What timing… it’s kind of amazing, isn’t it?”
Kuno blinked, seeming lost in thought. “…Yeah. I think I’m worn out. I’ll head home for today.”
“You should,” Osada agreed. “You’re still not looking your best. Get some rest.”
When they stepped outside, Osada offered, “Want me to drive you home?”
Kuno shook his head. “No, I’m fine now.”
They parted ways in front of the café.
Ever since he fainted at Café Original, Kuno couldn’t stop thinking about that dream.
What was that…? Was the man I met really Haruka’s father? If it truly was him, could that dream have been what helped wake him up?
No matter how much he thought about it, there was no answer. Days passed, and he finally decided, Thinking won’t solve anything. I should just call Haruka.
He took out her business card and reached for his phone. But just as he was about to dial, his ringtone—“A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”—filled the room.
“Who could this be?” he muttered, picking up the call. “Hello?”
A familiar voice spoke from the other end. “Um… this is Mitsutomo.”
The timing made him blink in surprise. “Oh! Haruka! I was just thinking of calling you. How’s your father? I’ve been worried since that day.”
“Sorry for not reaching out sooner,” Haruka said apologetically. “Things have been hectic… but my father’s recovering well. Yesterday, I told him about the interview, and he said he’d like to meet you and Mr. Osada.”
“I’d be happy to,” Kuno said without hesitation.
“In that case,” Haruka continued, “he’s still in the hospital, so once he’s discharged—”
Kuno interrupted gently, not wanting to wait. “If it’s alright, we could visit him at the hospital instead?”
“Really? That would be wonderful! Do you know Kyōritsu Hospital?”
“Yes, the one near the station, right? What time should I come? I’m free tomorrow.”
“How about around two in the afternoon?”
“Got it. I’ll be there at two,” Kuno replied.
After hanging up, he sat back with a faint smile, feeling—oddly enough—like he’d just made plans for a date.
