You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 1
Ever since the accident, the Xu household had grown unusually lively. The once quiet and cold home was now filled with movement. Servants were rushing in and out, tidying up rooms and putting up new decorations. They carried armfuls of soft pastel-colored items, the kind only young children would like. They were placing and arranging these things everywhere. The clothes being unpacked were in all styles, from cute to casual, even denim.
Just from the variety of clothing alone, it was easy to tell how much care had been put into choosing them.
An Alpha with shoulder-length hair stood silently on the second floor. She looked down at the scene below, her brows tightly knit in frustration.
Not far away, a man in a suit with a strong, commanding presence gave a warm smile to the timid Omega nearby. He spoke to his own daughter, Xu Manyue, with a voice that carried both affection and unshakable authority.
“Don’t frown. From now on, Xiaoyi will be your sister’s fiancée. You should treat her kindly.”
Xu Manyue’s voice dropped automatically, even though she was clearly upset. She kept her anger in check for the sake of the young Omega standing nearby.
“Why do you always make these decisions on your own?”
“Xiaoyi is a top-tier Omega. You hardly come across one even if you go looking. Letting her become Xiaojiu’s fiancée is a blessing for Xiaojiu.” Father Xu smiled, as if there were nothing wrong with what he said.
“She is the daughter of a dear friend. Of course I had to bring her home and take care of her.”
“Take care of her?” Xu Manyue stared at him coldly, her voice filled with disbelief. “Then tell me, how have you taken care of Xiaojiu, the one who needs care the most?”
With the way he acted, did he even deserve to be called a father?
“Xiaojiu may only be eleven, but you’re already twenty and an adult. Aren’t you the one taking care of her? She doesn’t need me,” Father Xu said without a care. “Besides, didn’t you complain that I looked after her so much she ended up getting sick?”
“You only care about your piano.” Xu Manyue was furious. If this had been one of her company’s employees, they would have been fired on the spot. But this was her own father. No matter how angry she was, there was nothing she could do to him.
“By the way, I’m leaving for an overseas trip tomorrow. You’ll take care of Xiaoyi.” Father Xu waved her off and turned to the little Omega, who still hadn’t dared step forward. He gave a brief goodbye and then left the house without looking back. To him, this house held no warmth.
“You know how fragile Xiaojiu’s health is. I don’t have time to look after an Omega too,” Xu Manyue said, following closely behind him and lowering her voice.
“You run an entire company. Just assign a few people to help Xiaojiu and keep an eye on Xiaoyi. That’s more than enough.” Father Xu shrugged casually. From the way Xu Manyue had carefully lowered her voice in front of the little Omega earlier, he could tell that looking after her would not be difficult.
Xu Manyue stood still as she watched her father leave, so angry that her head began to ache.
The butler walked over and asked cautiously, “Miss, what should we do about Miss Lin?”
Xu Manyue turned to look at the little Omega who had not said a word since arriving. She was curled up on the sofa, stiff with nervousness. Xu Manyue couldn’t bring herself to say anything cruel or send the child away. Pressing her fingers to her aching temple, she sighed.
“Just make arrangements where she can stay.”
The girl was already here. She couldn’t just send her back to the orphanage.
Besides, Xiaojiu had always been alone at home with no one her age to talk to. Now there was someone her age. Hopefully, just maybe, Xiaojiu would be willing to accept her.
“What’s your name?” Xu Manyue asked gently.
The soft voice startled Lin Xinyi. She shrank back slightly, then looked up timidly at her.
“Lin Xinyi.”
“That’s a beautiful name.” Seeing how tense the little Omega was, Xu Manyue felt her heart ache. Her voice became even softer.
She remembered what her father had told her earlier. This child had been raised by her father alone, a police officer who had died during a mission not long ago. Now she had no family left. She was so young, and her heart must be full of sorrow.
Lin Xinyi bit her lip. She didn’t know how to respond.
“Xiaoyi, is it alright if I call you that?” Xu Manyue asked softly.
Lin Xinyi nodded. “Yes.”
“Xiaoyi, I also have a younger sister. Her name is Xu Shijiu. She’s an Alpha. She was in an accident when she was little and now uses a wheelchair. She can’t walk, and she has a scar on her forehead. Her temper isn’t great, so she might say things that upset you or act in ways that make you uncomfortable. I hope you won’t take it to heart. If anything ever happens, come to me. I’ll protect you.”
Xu Manyue did her best to explain everything about Xiaojiu. Since they were going to live together, it was important to be honest and prepare her.
“I understand. Uncle Xu already told me.” Lin Xinyi answered seriously. “I am Xu Shijiu’s fiancée.”
Xu Manyue was taken aback by her direct response. For a moment she was speechless, then quickly shook her head.
“No, that’s not true. Just pretend he never said that.”
If Xiaojiu found out there was an Omega living in the house, she would already be upset. If she knew that this Omega was supposedly her fiancée, then things would get completely out of control.
“No, I promised Uncle Xu. He brought me out of the orphanage. I will marry Xu Shijiu.” Lin Xinyi’s voice was firm, her eyes filled with determination. She was only eleven, but she already understood what it meant to make a promise, and she intended to keep it.
Xu Manyue had not expected this fragile-looking Omega to be so stubborn. She was just about to say more when the door to Xiaojiu’s room opened.
Xu Shijiu rolled out in her wheelchair. She leaned back against the seat, her eyes still half-closed from sleep. Her long bangs covered her forehead, hiding the scar. She was wearing loose, casual clothes. Her feet were bare, resting quietly on the footrest. She had not even put on slippers.
Despite the heavy bangs and the untidy hair that flowed down to her waist, there was a shadowy stillness about her. She looked withdrawn and gloomy. Her long, unkempt hair gave her a lazy appearance, but her expression was cold and quiet.
The first impression she gave was that of a sullen and moody child.
“Sister…”
Xu Shijiu rolled her wheelchair into the living room and called out instinctively, but as soon as she met the eyes of a completely unfamiliar Omega, she sobered up instantly. Her expression turned sharp and hostile. She pointed at the Omega and demanded an answer from her sister.
“Who is this Omega?”
“Xiaojiu, listen to me,” Xu Manyue hurried to her side and gently patted her chest, trying to calm her down with a soft voice.
“Don’t speak,” Xu Shijiu said as she grabbed her sister’s hand. Her tone was low and firm, her eyes fixed on the little Omega. “You. Speak.”
Just from the scent lingering in the air, she knew that man had returned. He must have done something again. Her sister would never tell her the full story.
“H-hello, my name is Lin Xinyi,” the Omega said carefully. The look in the Alpha’s eyes was frightening. She was terrified. Why was the sister so gentle, but her younger sister so fierce?
“And?” Xu Shijiu was visibly annoyed. Her whole body was tense. The thing she hated most was someone stepping into their home uninvited.
She hated it when people came into the home that belonged to just her and her sister. She hated being seen like this, trapped in this half-human, half-broken state. She hated the pity and sympathy in other people’s eyes. She hated their fake friendliness, the empty words about wanting to be friends. And most of all, she hated how every time someone came close, it meant she might get hurt again.
“I was raised by a single parent. My father was a police officer. He died during a mission a month ago. I was sent to the orphanage. Uncle Xu found me and said he wanted to bring me home. From now on, I’ll be living here,” Lin Xinyi said. Her clear eyes met Xu Shijiu’s gaze directly. There was no pity or sympathy in her expression. Her small face was full of sincerity as she explained her situation word for word.
Xu Manyue was stunned. She didn’t expect the little Omega to respond like this, nor did she expect Xiaojiu to actually listen without interrupting or ordering her out.
In the past, she had tried to invite other children to visit, hoping Xiaojiu would warm up to someone. But every time, before the child could even finish speaking, Xiaojiu would lose her temper and kick them out. Today was completely different.
“There’s one more thing,” Lin Xinyi said.
“What is it?” Xu Shijiu found herself drawn to those clear eyes. She felt her restless heart calm down without realizing it. For some reason, she really listened to her, word by word.
“I have another identity,” Lin Xinyi said seriously.
Xu Manyue’s eyes widened as she realized what was about to be said. She opened her mouth to stop her, but it was already too late.
“I’m also your fiancée,” Lin Xinyi said with complete sincerity, unaware of how shocking her words were to everyone in the room.
“What did you just say?” Xu Shijiu shouted. The calm that had settled in her heart was instantly shattered like a volcano erupting. She knew it. She knew it would be like this.
No one could ever treat her like a normal child. No one would ever get close to her without wanting something. No one could accept her for who she was. It was impossible.
“Xiaojiu, calm down. Please calm down,” Xu Manyue reached out instinctively to grab her hand, but she was just a second too late. She could only watch as Xiaojiu picked up a small plush bear from the table and threw it at the Omega.
At first, Xu Manyue breathed a sigh of relief. At least it was just a stuffed animal. But of all the places it could have hit, it had to go straight for Lin Xinyi’s eye.
The eyes are so delicate. As soon as the soft toy made contact, Lin Xinyi knocked it away and immediately covered her eye in pain. It stung badly. Tears welled up and rolled down her cheeks as she finally burst into tears.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry. Xiaoyi, come here and let me take a look. I’m sorry, it’s all Xiaojiu’s fault,” Xu Manyue rushed to comfort the little Omega, her voice full of guilt. She turned around and glared at her sister. How many times had she warned her about this temper?
Xu Shijiu panicked. She hadn’t meant to hurt her. She hadn’t expected it to hit her eye. Hearing the Omega cry, her own eyes began to burn. But all the things she wanted to say, the words full of concern, stayed trapped in her chest. She bit her lower lip and gripped the armrests of her wheelchair tightly.
This was better. If it hurt, then maybe she would not come close again.
Maybe this way, she would stay away.
