You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 10
Just as Lin Xinyi had predicted, Xu Shijiu’s new outfit didn’t really give her any extra “presence.” The only improvement was that she looked sharper and a bit cooler.
Xu Manyue pushed Xu Shijiu in her wheelchair down to the first floor via the elevator. On the way to the living room, Xu Shijiu kept trying to keep a stern expression, hoping to appear more intimidating. But Xu Manyue, watching all her sister’s little expressions, only smiled to herself and said nothing.
The moment they entered the living room, Liu Lingyan stood up immediately. Facing the much younger Alpha, she greeted her earnestly.
“Hello, I’m Liu Lingyan.”
Xu Shijiu had originally planned to make a cutting remark right away to establish dominance. But the moment she saw Liu Lingyan’s bright, respectful smile and realized she wasn’t being treated like a child, all her prepared lines caught in her throat.
She didn’t reply. Instead, she stared silently at the Omega through her bangs, studying her expression with caution.
“Yanyan, this is my younger sister, Xu Shijiu,” Xu Manyue quickly spoke up, knowing her sister’s temperament well. Winning her over would not be easy.
“Hello,” Liu Lingyan said again, smiling gently.
Xu Manyue looked at her with concern, but Liu Lingyan simply shook her head slightly to show she was fine.
It was obvious that Xu Shijiu cared a lot about her sister. Being cautious around her was perfectly normal. After all, they had barely met.
Because Xu Shijiu remained silent, the atmosphere became tense.
Xu Manyue didn’t want her partner to feel awkward, so she smiled and pushed the fruit platter toward Liu Lingyan.
“Yanyan, have some fruit. There’s kiwi in there, your favorite. I asked the housekeeper to prepare extra just for you.”
Immediately, Xu Shijiu shot a sharp look at Liu Lingyan.
Her grip on the wheelchair tightened, her heart filling with quiet frustration. They weren’t even married yet, and her sister was already favoring this Omega so openly. What would happen in the future?
Liu Lingyan noticed the piercing look and her smile stiffened slightly. She shot a discreet glare at Xu Manyue.
How could someone be this dense? Didn’t she realize that little things like this were exactly what Shijiu would notice most?
Was she trying to help her get closer to Shijiu or make it worse?
Liu Lingyan smoothly slid the fruit platter over to Xu Shijiu instead and asked in a warm voice, “Xiaojiu, what kind of fruit do you like?”
“Hey…” Xu Manyue tried to interrupt, sensing the shift.
“Be quiet,” Liu Lingyan said under her breath with a smile.
She should have known better than to rely on someone whose emotional intelligence came and went like the tide.
“Uh…” Xu Manyue looked a bit hurt. What had she done wrong?
Liu Lingyan ignored her entirely and turned back to Xu Shijiu, her tone gentle and respectful.
“Xiaojiu, is it alright if I call you that?”
Xu Shijiu had just been quietly enjoying the sight of her sister getting put in her place. But Liu Lingyan’s sudden question caught her off guard. She blinked, momentarily stunned.
“Is it not okay?” Liu Lingyan asked again patiently.
The thick fringe covering Shijiu’s forehead stood out. If Xu Manyue hadn’t already explained that there was a scar hidden beneath, Liu Lingyan might have asked about it. It was hard not to notice.
There was a clear defensiveness in Xu Shijiu’s eyes. And that made Liu Lingyan’s heart ache.
She must have been hurt before. Now, she was simply afraid to trust anyone too easily.
“…It’s fine,” Xu Shijiu finally replied.
Xu Manyue’s eyes lit up instantly. This was a big step forward. If Shijiu allowed Yanyan to call her by name, that meant progress.
Liu Lingyan noticed Xu Manyue’s gleeful reaction, like a kid who had just gotten a candy. She held back a laugh.
She had told Xu Manyue everything would be alright. Shijiu loved her sister deeply. There was no way she would let her sister struggle alone or feel hurt.
“How old are you?” Xu Shijiu asked with authority, her tone sharp and direct.
Xu Manyue frowned. “Xiaojiu, that’s not a polite way to ask—”
But before she could finish, Liu Lingyan spoke calmly.
“I’m the same age as your sister. We’re both twenty. Though I’m a month younger than her.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t respond right away, but it was clear that this Omega’s refusal to treat her like a child was winning her over.
“What do you do? Where do you work?”
“I’m an actress. I work at your sister’s company.”
Liu Lingyan deliberately referred to Xu Manyue as “your sister” instead of using her usual nickname, hoping it would help Shijiu feel more at ease.
“And your parents? What do they do? Where are they?”
Xu Manyue watched in disbelief as the two of them carried on. One was asking seriously. The other was answering seriously. If someone couldn’t see them and only heard their voices, they would’ve thought an old relative was interrogating a new family member.
This was strange. Shijiu had never acted like this before. And Yanyan was being surprisingly cooperative.
“My father owns a company. My mother…” Liu Lingyan’s voice softened. “She passed away a few years ago in an accident.”
That caught Xu Shijiu off guard. She hadn’t expected Liu Lingyan’s situation to mirror her own. She stopped asking more questions.
Seeing the Omega across from her still smiling without a hint of sadness, Xu Shijiu felt a little uncomfortable inside.
“I’m sorry…” The confidence she had just moments ago disappeared, and she lowered her voice to sincerely apologize to Liu Lingyan.
She hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. She never intended to upset her sister’s Omega.
Even if she had planned to give her a hard time, this wasn’t the kind of situation she wanted to take advantage of.
“Hmm?” Liu Lingyan was surprised by how serious Xu Shijiu sounded. She quickly shook her head. “It’s really okay.”
Xu Manyue often said that her little sister had a bad temper, but to Liu Lingyan, Xu Shijiu seemed like a good and kind person.
Xu Manyue, however, was not surprised by her sister’s reaction. They had both lost their mothers, and that kind of shared loss made them more sensitive to one another’s emotions.
Later, Liu Lingyan had to leave after receiving several urgent phone calls from her agent. Even after she was gone, Xu Shijiu continued to feel guilty about what she had said.
“Sis, why didn’t you tell me about her mom?” she asked, her tone full of frustration. “If I had known, I wouldn’t have said something like that.”
“What?” Xu Manyue hadn’t expected her sister to still be thinking about it. “Sorry, Xiaojiu. I forgot.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t respond to that.
“She wouldn’t take it to heart,” Xu Manyue said gently. “It really wasn’t something you needed to avoid. I’ve talked with her about it before.”
She had planned to tell Shijiu earlier, but since it was something personal to Liu Lingyan, she hadn’t felt comfortable bringing it up without permission.
“Not taking it to heart is one thing. Feeling sad is another,” Xu Shijiu muttered, clearly frustrated with her sister’s lack of emotional awareness.
“Oh…” Xu Manyue was speechless.
It was clear that this mattered to Xiaojiu. No wonder she had lost all her energy after finding out about Liu Lingyan’s mother.
“By the way, I want Liu-jie’s contact information,” Xu Shijiu said suddenly.
“What?” Xu Manyue looked shocked. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Xiaojiu asking for someone’s number? That was completely unexpected.
“Well, are you going to give it to me or not?” Xu Shijiu asked with a hint of impatience, trying to act annoyed so her sister wouldn’t ask why she wanted it.
“I’ll give it to you,” Xu Manyue replied right away. She had no idea what her sister was thinking, but she wasn’t going to argue. She took Xu Shijiu’s phone and entered the number.
After saving the contact and adding a name, she handed the phone back and noticed that her sister had a complicated look on her face.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Manyue blinked and looked at her in confusion.
“What surprises me,” Xu Shijiu said in a mocking tone, “is that someone with such a bad memory actually remembers Liu-jie’s phone number.”
She couldn’t even remember her own little sister’s number.
“Uh…” Xu Manyue finally realized her sister was jealous.
“I remembered yours too,” she said, trying to sound proud.
“Really?” Xu Shijiu’s eyes lit up with joy.
“Of course. Isn’t it 136…” Xu Manyue recited the full number perfectly, without a single mistake.
“That’s right!” Xu Shijiu smiled so brightly that her eyes squinted into little crescents. She looked completely satisfied.
“Hehe…” Xu Manyue chuckled quietly as she pushed the wheelchair. Her face held a trace of guilt.
She would never admit to Xiaojiu that the only reason she remembered the number was because Liu Lingyan had made her memorize it. After learning that she only knew one phone number—hers—Liu Lingyan insisted that she learn her sister’s too.
At first, she had been reluctant, but Liu Lingyan had used a mix of coaxing and pressure to get her to do it. In the end, she remembered it quickly and clearly.
Maybe it was because the process of memorizing it had been so warm and sweet.
Now it had actually come in handy.
Thinking back on it, Xu Manyue felt even more admiration for Liu Lingyan.
After dinner, Xu Shijiu usually either went back to her room or took a walk in the garden with her sister. But tonight, she made an unusual choice. She wheeled herself into the living room and turned on the television.
Lin Xinyi had been planning to go back to her room, but Xu Shijiu waved her over to watch TV with her.
Xu Manyue was happy to see this. She picked up the remote and asked, “Xiaojiu, what do you want to watch?”
“Something with Liu-jie in it,” Xu Shijiu answered right away.
She wanted to do a proper background check on the Omega who might become her sister-in-law.
