You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 12
The Xu family had their own private doctor. When Xu Manyue saw the condition Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were in, she stopped holding back. Without hesitation, she struck Mr. Xu with a swift chop to the neck, rendering him unconscious on the spot.
The family doctor arrived quickly. Lin Xinyi’s wound was treated in time, but the treatment was only temporary. The shards of glass lodged in her shoulder could not be removed without proper medical imaging, and attempting it without the right equipment would be too dangerous. She had to go to the hospital.
Whether it was because she was a top-tier Omega or simply had a heightened sensitivity to pain, Lin Xinyi found the pain in her left shoulder unbearable. Unlike her usual calm and composed self, she lowered her head and silently wiped away tears during the treatment. Although she never made a sound, her tears kept falling.
Seeing Lin Xinyi in tears, Xu Manyue didn’t dare to act rashly. Even though she was anxious, she deliberately softened her voice.
“Xinyi, stay still and it won’t hurt as much. Let me carry you on my back. We need to go to the hospital and get the glass removed.”
“No…” Lin Xinyi shook her head and refused. She wiped her tears, trying to hold them back, and insisted, “I can walk on my own.”
She was an Omega. Her sister was an Alpha who had already entered her sensitivity phase. It would not be appropriate.
“Sit here,” said Xu Shijiu quietly, her eyes red as she finally broke her silence.
Lin Xinyi rubbed her sore eyes and looked at her. Xu Shijiu was gently patting her lap, signaling for her to sit.
“I…” Lin Xinyi wanted to refuse again, but the moment she saw the sorrow in Xu Shijiu’s eyes, she gave in. “Alright.”
It was a deeply intimate act for an Omega to sit on an Alpha’s lap, something normally avoided between the two. But in that moment, neither of them cared.
One of them was sweating from pain, the other drowning in guilt and self-blame.
Xu Manyue really wanted to say, why not just bring Xu Shijiu’s backup wheelchair instead? But after glancing at the two of them, she held back and said nothing. She hurried them off to the hospital.
The hospital was crowded. As soon as they arrived, Xu Shijiu started to feel suffocated. She quietly moved to sit on a bench outside the hospital entrance and asked Lin Xinyi to sit in the wheelchair so her sister could push her inside.
Xu Manyue knew how much Xu Shijiu hated hospitals. She didn’t insist. Instead, she left one of the bodyguards to stay with Xu Shijiu and went in with Lin Xinyi.
Left alone, with the hospital looming behind her, Xu Shijiu couldn’t help but start overthinking again.
While Lin Xinyi had been sitting on her lap earlier, Xu Shijiu kept turning her eyes away, avoiding the sight of her injured shoulder. Partly because she couldn’t bear to look at the wound, and partly because she was afraid.
She couldn’t stand to see the harsh contrast between Lin Xinyi’s pale skin and the brutal gash. But more than that, she was afraid it would remind her of that day—when her mother had shielded her with her own body, bleeding heavily to protect her.
Xu Shijiu hated hospitals. Her mother had died on the cold surgical table of a hospital. Her own legs had been declared permanently damaged on one too.
To her, hospitals were monsters that devoured people.
That was why, when it came time to choose a rehabilitation center, Xu Manyue had gone to great lengths to find one that didn’t resemble a hospital, something Xu Shijiu could accept.
When Lin Xinyi and Xu Manyue finally came back outside, Lin Xinyi looked much more at ease. She walked beside her sister, the tears on her face now gone.
Xu Manyue followed behind, pushing the now-empty wheelchair. A bag of medication, possibly ointments, hung from the handle.
“Does it still hurt?”
For the first time, it was Xu Shijiu who spoke first.
“They used a local anesthetic. It doesn’t hurt anymore,” Lin Xinyi replied with a surprised smile and shook her head.
Xu Manyue gently lifted Xu Shijiu into the wheelchair. After a long silence, Xu Shijiu turned to Lin Xinyi and said quietly, “I’m sorry.”
“Huh?” Lin Xinyi looked confused. “Why are you apologizing?”
“Because… because you got hurt because of me.” Xu Shijiu lowered her head and didn’t meet Lin Xinyi’s eyes. She didn’t see the astonishment on Lin Xinyi’s face.
“That’s not true at all. I didn’t get hurt because of you. It was your father’s fault. You’re not to blame, and it’s definitely not your fault,” Lin Xinyi said firmly. She made her point clear. In that moment earlier, if she hadn’t run to help, Xu Shijiu could have been injured—possibly even on her face.
That would have left a permanent scar.
Even though Xu Shijiu already had a scar on her forehead and believed it made her look disfigured, Lin Xinyi had never seen it. Xu Shijiu always covered it with her bangs. To Lin Xinyi, she still looked very pretty.
But if something else had happened today, it would have only made things worse. That would have broken her completely.
Xu Shijiu didn’t say anything more. She remained silent, but the guilt in her heart did not go away.
Xu Manyue stayed quiet the entire time. She had wanted to speak up a few times, maybe help explain things or comfort Xu Shijiu, but in the end, she swallowed her words.
She realized that it was better to let Xu Shijiu communicate with Lin Xinyi on her own.
If Xu Shijiu never learned to speak for herself, things would never improve.
Xu Manyue had always been overly protective of her sister, speaking on her behalf, shielding her from everything. But that was not the right way.
Lin Xinyi was one of the few people, aside from herself, who could truly connect with Xu Shijiu. It was important to let them handle things on their own.
“I’m sorry,” Xu Shijiu said again, unable to find any other words to express the guilt and sorrow weighing on her heart.
“It’s not your fault, Xu Shijiu,” Lin Xinyi said with a frown, clearly frustrated. She had never imagined that Xu Shijiu would be so stubborn about taking the blame for something that had never been her fault in the first place.
Xu Shijiu stayed silent.
Lin Xinyi and Xu Manyue exchanged a glance. After thinking for a moment, Lin Xinyi looked at Xu Shijiu seriously and said, “Blaming yourself for things that are not your fault is a really upsetting habit, Xu Shijiu.”
Xu Shijiu looked up and met Lin Xinyi’s eyes. There was something so sincere and clear in her gaze that it felt like a heavy hit to her chest.
“If you really can’t let it go, can I make a request?” Lin Xinyi asked gently.
“Alright,” Xu Shijiu answered right away. If there was something she could do to ease the guilt in her heart, she was more than willing to try it.
Lin Xinyi looked again at Xu Manyue, who gave a subtle nod of approval. Then Lin Xinyi softly reminded Xu Shijiu, “It could be anything. Are you sure?”
“I will agree to anything you ask,” Xu Shijiu said with certainty.
She had already noticed the quiet exchange of glances between her sister and Lin Xinyi. She had also guessed what Lin Xinyi might ask for. Although it was likely to be something difficult for her, she was ready.
She looked at the white bandages peeking out from Lin Xinyi’s shoulder and thought back to the moment when Lin Xinyi had rushed to shield her, getting hurt in the process. Even then, the first thing Lin Xinyi asked was if she was alright.
Xu Shijiu thought that no matter what Lin Xinyi asked for, she would say yes.
The last person who had protected her without hesitation was her mother. This time, it was Lin Xinyi.
“Come to school with me?” Lin Xinyi finally asked. Earlier, she had been unsure if this was the right moment to bring it up, but since Xu Shijiu had agreed so confidently, she no longer felt the need to hold back.
Besides, she was sure that Xu Shijiu had already seen her exchanging looks with her sister. With how smart Xu Shijiu was, she had probably figured out the request even before it was spoken.
Only her sister believed that Xu Shijiu was unaware of what was going on.
“Okay,” Xu Shijiu answered without the slightest hesitation.
“What?” Xu Manyue was stunned. She had not expected things to go so smoothly. She had even prepared a whole plan to convince her little sister in case she refused.
“Sister, if you plan to give signals to the people around you, can you try to be a little less obvious?” Xu Shijiu said with a tired look. “The way you stared just now, it was like the word ‘secret plan’ was written across your face.”
Xu Manyue had not expected to be exposed so directly. She opened her mouth but said nothing as the corners of her lips twitched slightly.
Lin Xinyi tried hard not to laugh. She never imagined that Xu Shijiu would be so blunt, completely exposing Xu Manyue without holding anything back.
“So you really agreed?” Xu Manyue asked again. She still found it hard to believe that everything had gone so well.
“Yes, I agreed.” Xu Shijiu nodded firmly. She knew how much her sister worried about her.
“That’s great!” Xu Manyue could not help cheering. Only she knew how many times she had tried and failed to persuade her sister. Each time had ended in disappointment.
She glanced at the young Omega walking nearby, her gentle smile still on her face. Her thoughts became more complicated.
It was now clear that Lin Xinyi had a very important place in Xu Shijiu’s heart.
It made sense. Lin Xinyi had truly risked everything to protect her. That made her someone special in Xu Shijiu’s eyes.
Xu Shijiu had always appeared distant, like someone who pushed others away. She looked cold and hard to approach, but deep inside she cared deeply. She just never said it out loud. She kept her feelings to herself.
Now that Xu Shijiu had agreed, Xu Manyue immediately called her assistant to complete the remaining school enrollment process.
On the morning of the first day of school, Xu Shijiu woke early from another nightmare. She sat alone in the dark, looking down at her legs. The entire room felt heavy and quiet.
