You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 15
After the opening ceremony, Xu Shijiu was nowhere to be found, and Lin Zhiling thought it was strange.
“Xinyi, where did Xu Shijiu go?” Lin Zhiling asked curiously as she pulled a tissue from the box to help Lin Xinyi clean Xu Shijiu’s desk.
“She went home,” Lin Xinyi replied. She did not refuse Zhiling’s help. Zhiling was also an Omega and had a pleasant personality. Lin Xinyi did not dislike her.
“She left already?” Lin Zhiling was surprised. Then, with a hint of curiosity, she asked, “I heard you’re living with the Xu family?”
Lin Xinyi paused for a moment. She looked at Lin Zhiling with a complicated expression. She assumed Zhiling was trying to ask if she was really engaged to Xu Shijiu.
But Lin Zhiling had no idea that she had been misunderstood. She simply continued speaking with genuine concern.
“If you’re living with the Xu family, and most of them are Alphas, is it difficult for you as an Omega?”
The concern in her eyes was real. There was not a trace of gossip or judgment in her tone. That was when Lin Xinyi realized she had misunderstood and gave a small shake of her head.
“No. It’s actually fine,” she said calmly.
It really was. The Xu sisters lived upstairs on the second floor, and she lived downstairs on the first. Everything was comfortable and respectful.
“You’re an Omega, so you have to take extra good care of yourself,” Lin Zhiling said seriously. Although she was still worried, she did not press the topic. She just left her with a gentle reminder.
Lin Xinyi looked at her and could not help but laugh softly. Her voice was light and bright.
“I will. Don’t worry.”
“Xinyi, you really are beautiful,” Lin Zhiling said with admiration. She had never seen an Omega who looked that stunning when she smiled.
“Where is Xu Shijiu?”
A soft voice interrupted them. Lin Xinyi and Lin Zhiling turned their heads to see where it had come from. A delicate-looking Omega girl with long hair stood by the door, looking fragile.
“She went home. Is there something you need?” Lin Xinyi asked with a polite smile, though she instinctively became cautious. Her gut told her this Omega was not as harmless as she appeared. The way she called Xu Shijiu by name so casually was already a sign.
Lin Zhiling also sensed that something was off. Without hesitation, she stepped forward and positioned herself in front of Lin Xinyi. She would not allow anyone to mess with her new friend.
This school was full of wealthy students. They had all seen plenty of complicated social situations. When it came to dealing with people, no one here was truly simple.
Lin Xinyi might be staying at the Xu family’s home, but she did not have any personal power or background of her own. Lin Zhiling was determined not to let her be pushed around.
“Please don’t misunderstand. I only came to see Shijiu,” the girl said gently. Her voice trembled slightly as if she had been frightened. Tears shimmered in her eyes, as if they could fall at any moment. Lin Zhiling shivered from discomfort.
“I can pass along a message for you,” Lin Xinyi offered. She kept her tone calm and did not show the uneasiness she felt.
“My name is Yilan. I was Shijiu’s classmate in elementary school. I just wanted to reconnect with her,” the girl said sweetly. “Can you take me to the Xu home? I would really like to see her face to face.”
“No,” Lin Xinyi replied without hesitation.
“Why not?” Yilan asked, her eyes welling up with tears again.
Lin Xinyi frowned. She had not expected that Xu Shijiu would go home and leave behind such a troublesome situation.
“You and Xu Shijiu were never that close, were you?”
A new voice interrupted, cutting through the awkwardness.
“Mo Jinlan?” Yilan’s expression darkened as soon as she saw who it was.
“That’s funny. Weren’t you the one who mocked Xu Shijiu the most after she got injured? And now here you are, pretending to care?” said the short-haired Alpha girl with a cold smile. Her tone was sharp and unapologetic.
She had never liked girls like Yilan.
Lin Xinyi stood silently and heard everything clearly. Yilan’s expression turned stiff with embarrassment. Under Lin Zhiling’s piercing gaze, she finally turned around and walked away without another word.
“And you are?” Lin Xinyi looked at the girl who had just spoken. The Alpha stood quietly and stared at her, as if surprised by something.
Clearly, this girl also knew Xu Shijiu.
Just how popular had Xu Shijiu been in the past? So many people still remembered her.
“I’m Mo Jinlan. I was Xu Shijiu’s classmate in elementary school. I’m a top-tier Alpha,” she said, returning to herself. Her eyes still carried a hint of awe as she emphasized the last part.
Top-tier Alpha and top-tier Omega. It was a rare match.
Lin Zhiling did not like the look in Mo Jinlan’s eyes. She immediately turned around, gently pushed Lin Xinyi to her seat, and ignored Mo Jinlan completely.
“Class is about to start,” she said.
Lin Xinyi did not resist. She sat down quietly and looked straight ahead. She could tell that something about Mo Jinlan did not feel right.
Mo Jinlan noticed Lin Xinyi’s reaction and realized that she had probably come across too strongly. She scratched her head, sighing quietly to herself.
The first class was homeroom. When the teacher noticed Xu Shijiu’s empty seat, she said nothing. She went over the school rules and class expectations, then assigned student responsibilities based on academic performance. By the end of the period, it was already time to dismiss.
Lin Xinyi was chosen as the class representative for language studies. Her grades were outstanding in every subject. Every teacher had hoped she would represent their class, but in the end, the language teacher won the draw.
Since it was the first day of school, all they had to do was attend the opening ceremony, collect their textbooks, and sit through the homeroom class. After that, they were allowed to go home.
Lin Xinyi packed her own books into her bag neatly, then quietly reached for Xu Shijiu’s materials. Without complaint, she began organizing them and packing them into her classmate’s bag as well.
“Xinyi, are you sure this is okay? Those books are really heavy.” Lin Zhiling looked at Lin Xinyi with concern. She was carrying one backpack on her back and another in her hand.
Lin Zhiling had tried to help more than once, but Lin Xinyi gently refused every time.
“I’m fine. My sister said the car is already waiting outside,” Lin Xinyi replied calmly. She spoke with ease, but her body was clearly straining under the weight. It was obvious she was pushing herself.
“Let me help you.” Mo Jinlan appeared suddenly and took the heavier backpack straight from Lin Xinyi’s hand. “Think of it as my apology for being rude earlier.”
Her honesty and directness surprised Lin Xinyi. The bad impression she had of Mo Jinlan began to soften.
Lin Xinyi no longer resisted and let her carry the bag. The three of them walked together toward the school gate.
“This one must be Xu Shijiu’s bag,” Mo Jinlan said as they walked.
“Yes, it is,” Lin Xinyi nodded. “How did you know?”
“She used to love roses. Back then, her bag, her handkerchief, even her notebooks had rose patterns. She also hated it when others touched them,” Mo Jinlan said, holding the bag by the straps.
“Really?” Lin Xinyi found this interesting. The Xu Shijiu described by Mo Jinlan was so different from the person she knew now.
“Was she always like this when she was younger?” Lin Zhiling asked, curious.
“Not at all,” Mo Jinlan replied, her eyes filled with a nostalgic glow. “Back then, Xu Shijiu was our leader. She was always smiling, always coming up with new ideas for fun. We got into plenty of trouble, and she loved giving big speeches like a little general.”
“She changed after she got hurt, right?”
“Yes. After the accident, she never came back to school.” Mo Jinlan sounded a little sad. During those days, she had always been under strict discipline from the Mo family. It was Xu Shijiu who gave her a taste of freedom and fun. Those memories stayed with her.
At that time, the Xu family’s business was still doing well. Even when they messed around, no one would scold Xu Shijiu for it.
Lin Xinyi quietly listened. The Xu Shijiu that Mo Jinlan described came to life in her mind—a lively, cheerful girl so different from the quiet one she knew now.
“A lot happened after that. When I saw her in class today, I honestly thought I was imagining it.” Mo Jinlan sighed.
“Xinyi!”
A familiar voice made Lin Xinyi look up. Sure enough, it was Xu Shijiu.
“I’ll see you tomorrow!” Lin Xinyi called back. She quickly took the bag from Mo Jinlan, said goodbye to Lin Zhiling, and ran to catch up with Xu Shijiu.
She hadn’t expected Xu Shijiu to still be waiting. She thought she had gone home.
“This is your bag. I packed all your books inside.” After getting into the car, Lin Xinyi placed the bag next to Xu Shijiu.
“Xinyi, did you make any friends today?” Xu Manyue asked from the front passenger seat. She turned around with a warm smile. “Were those two girls just now your friends? That short-haired one looked familiar.”
“I did. One of them is Lin Zhiling. She’s an Omega,” Lin Xinyi replied sweetly, then hesitated for a moment. “The short-haired Alpha is named Mo Jinlan. She said she was Xu Shijiu’s elementary school classmate.”
“Really?” Xu Manyue looked genuinely surprised.
Xu Shijiu kept her head low and said nothing.
Lin Xinyi couldn’t tell what she was thinking. She didn’t know if bringing up Mo Jinlan had made her uncomfortable, so she didn’t say anything more.
“She’s a top-tier Alpha,” Xu Shijiu suddenly said in a quiet voice, startling both Xu Manyue and Lin Xinyi.
“I know,” Lin Xinyi said, puzzled by the serious tone.
“You’re an Omega,” Xu Shijiu added with a firm voice.
“Yes,” Lin Xinyi blinked, unsure of where this was going.
“Alphas and Omegas shouldn’t be too close,” Xu Shijiu said seriously.
Mo Jinlan was a top-tier Alpha. Lin Xinyi was a top-tier Omega.
Both were top-ranked. That kind of combination seemed very…
“Huh? But I didn’t even do anything with her,” Lin Xinyi replied, trying to think. Apart from Mo Jinlan’s intense gaze earlier, she had actually been very respectful. When they walked together, she even kept her distance.
So, what exactly was Xu Shijiu trying to say with all this awkwardness?
