You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 19
Xu Shijiu sat quietly in her seat, surrounded by strangers. There was no one she knew, no familiar presence to offer comfort. The stares directed at her were more intense than anything she had felt before. The whispers around her were sharper, more pointed than usual, and they filled the air like tiny needles pricking at her calm.
She had always thought she could handle this kind of situation. But today, for some reason, it felt harder than ever.
Why?
She sat motionless, her eyes fixed on the pen Lin Xinyi had tested many times to make sure it worked perfectly. A heavy cloud seemed to surround her, pressing down on her shoulders.
Was it because Lin Xinyi was not here?
She was not sure. She did not know when she had started depending on Lin Xinyi so much.
Her sister had told her not to care about gossip. Lin Xinyi had told her to ignore it too. But how many people could truly stay unaffected when the words were directed so openly and cruelly at them?
At least Xu Shijiu could not.
She had already been doing her best to pretend she could not hear the loud, deliberately spoken comments nearby. But those students seemed to be doing it on purpose. The more she stayed silent, the more they whispered and laughed, slowly edging closer to her seat.
From outside the classroom, the bodyguards could only see a few students standing near her. They had no way of knowing what was being said or why the group was smiling and laughing.
Xu Shijiu clenched her fists tightly, trying to suppress the fear rising in her chest and the urge to lash out. She needed to stay calm. Only if she stayed calm could she make it through the exam.
Yesterday, she had completed her Chinese and math tests. Lin Xinyi and her sister had both been genuinely happy. She did not want to disappoint them.
Even if her final scores were not going to be good.
But it seemed like neither of them cared too much about the results. They only wanted her to try.
“Did you hear about the cripple from the Xu family? I heard from my parents that she already has a fiancée. Supposedly a top-tier Omega.”
“What? Are you serious?”
“How could someone like Xu Shijiu be worthy of a top-tier Omega?”
“What’s so surprising?”
“What do you mean?”
“Top-tier or not, Omegas are just used for giving birth. There’s nothing that special about them. All a top-tier Omega really means is stronger reproductive ability.”
As they said this, the group walked past her desk. They did not lower their voices or hide their smirks.
Without warning, Xu Shijiu lunged forward and knocked the Alpha to the ground. The classroom was tightly packed, so when one person fell, several others stumbled too. Desks were bumped into, chairs were overturned, and the once-quiet classroom turned into chaos.
Although Xu Shijiu had gotten some satisfaction from pushing him down, she had not kept her balance and ended up falling as well.
“Miss!” The bodyguards rushed into the room. One of them quickly helped her up with great care, while the other scanned the room with a stern glare.
“What happened here?”
Most of the students, knowing who she was, remained completely silent.
“Your young miss attacked me for no reason,” the Alpha said, holding his bruised arm and glaring at her with anger. A classmate helped him stand up. “She pushed me to the ground and hurt several others too. Does the Xu family not believe in apologizing?”
His voice was loud and full of self-righteousness. The bodyguards hesitated, unsure what to do. Their young miss said nothing, and they did not dare make any assumptions.
Everyone knew she had a temper. It was hard to predict what she might do. They could not be sure if she had truly acted first or if she was simply defending herself.
“You think I’m scared of the Xu family? I don’t come from money, but does that mean you can just walk all over me?” the Alpha continued, pointing at a few students nearby who had also been knocked into. “These classmates got hurt too. Shouldn’t she apologize to them?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Exactly.”
“The Xu family looks down on all of us.”
“Girls like her would never lower themselves to apologize.”
Once someone spoke up, the others quickly joined in. They seemed to forget what had caused the incident in the first place. They ignored the cruel and hurtful things they had said just moments ago.
A few students with better sense quietly slipped back to their seats, pretending not to have seen anything or heard a word.
But with everything stirred up like this, it was obvious the exam could not start on time.
“What is going on in here?” The proctor walked into the classroom with the test papers in hand and immediately frowned at the scene.
“Teacher!” The Alpha rushed over as if he had just found support. “She pushed me out of nowhere. I fell and got hurt, and she caused other students to get hurt too.”
“What?” The proctor’s expression tightened the moment she heard Xu Shijiu’s name. She immediately pulled out her phone and called the principal. This was something far beyond what she could handle.
When it came to anything involving the Xu family, only the principal had the authority to intervene. Even he would likely prefer not to get involved if he could avoid it.
Just hearing the name Xu family was enough to make most people nervous.
The Xu family and the entertainment company run by Xu Manyue were not the same thing. The Xu family had a long and storied history. There were even rumors that they were once tied to royalty or nobility. Regardless of the truth, the influence behind the Xu family was not something people could ignore. Although Xu Manyue now appeared to be just a businesswoman managing an entertainment company, no one really knew how deep the family’s power ran or how much of it still remained.
No one dared to offend them easily.
In the end, Xu Shijiu did not finish the exam. She left the examination room before it started.
The bodyguard immediately contacted Xu Manyue, and she rushed to the school without delay. At first, the bodyguard planned to follow her earlier instructions and go find Lin Xinyi, but Xu Shijiu stopped him.
She looked down at the scrape on her palm, feeling a wave of helplessness.
There was no way she could continue the exam in her current state. More importantly, she did not want to distract Lin Xinyi or affect her performance. Lin Xinyi deserved to focus and do well.
Xu Shijiu was fully aware of her own abilities. She knew her academic performance was poor. But Lin Xinyi was different. Lin Xinyi always ranked first in her grade. She had a bright future ahead of her.
Xu Shijiu felt like her presence would only cast a shadow over Lin Xinyi’s success.
She did not regret what she had done. She did not regret hitting that Alpha who insulted Omegas and humiliated Lin Xinyi. But she did feel a little bitter. She wished she could have stood up and slapped that Alpha properly, just to wake her up.
Calling Omegas nothing more than tools for reproduction, saying that top-tier Omegas were only useful because of their stronger fertility. What exactly did they think Omegas were? And what did they think Alphas were? Gods?
How could anyone speak with such arrogance?
Xu Manyue had driven to the school as fast as she could. When Xu Shijiu was being pushed in her wheelchair toward the front gate by the bodyguards, Xu Manyue arrived.
“Xiaojiu!” Xu Manyue ran over to her, eyes full of worry. She grabbed Xu Shijiu’s wrist and looked down at the scrape on her palm. Her eyes immediately filled with tears.
“Does it hurt? Are you hurt anywhere else? What did they say to you?”
She asked without hesitation. She had never doubted her sister. She believed completely that Xu Shijiu would not hurt others for no reason, would not cause trouble on purpose, and had no violent tendencies.
“I’m fine,” Xu Shijiu said quietly, shaking her head. It was just a small scrape. She said nothing about why she had gotten into a fight.
“You’re not fine. Don’t try to fool me, Xiaojiu. Tell me the truth. What really happened? Why would you raise your hand against someone like that?” Xu Manyue stopped her from leaving. Her voice was firm and full of concern. She would never allow anyone to hurt her sister.
Xu Shijiu remained silent. She shook her head again.
She could not tell the truth.
If she said it out loud, Lin Xinyi would eventually find out that she had fought someone just because they had insulted her. And Lin Xinyi, with her gentle and timid nature, would definitely be affected. She would feel responsible. She would overthink everything.
That was just how Omegas were.
Besides, even though her sister treated Lin Xinyi very well and cared about her, it was clear that Xu Shijiu still held a more important place in her heart. If her sister ended up blaming Lin Xinyi for this, what would happen?
Xu Manyue usually smiled and laughed, but when it came to Xu Shijiu’s safety, she was extremely protective. If she ever discovered that someone or something had hurt her, she would remove it from her life completely, without question.
“Xiaojiu, please talk to me. Why won’t you say anything?” Xu Manyue’s voice grew tense. Her worry turned to frustration, and her tone became slightly sharper.
Tears finally fell from Xu Shijiu’s eyes.
She had not felt much pain earlier, not even from the scrape on her hand. But now, it suddenly hurt.
She looked up at her sister, tears sliding down her cheeks. Her lips trembled as she whispered with a pout, “You yelled at me.”
She was the one who had been wronged, but her sister had scolded her. It wasn’t fair.
Why was her sister being so harsh?
“Oh no, Xiaojiu, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. It’s my fault,” Xu Manyue said quickly. She gave in at once, gently pushing her sister’s wheelchair toward the car. She did not even look at the principal who had arrived and seemed like he wanted to say something.
“I won’t ask anymore. If you don’t want me to ask, I won’t. Please don’t cry.”
Xu Manyue had always been afraid of Xu Shijiu’s tears. It had been like that since they were children. Making Xiaojiu cry was the last thing she ever wanted to do.
