You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 21
Lin Xinyi was very well liked at school. Her close friend, Lin Zhiling, happened to have a classmate who was in the same class and exam room as Xu Shijiu. With that connection, finding out the truth behind what happened was incredibly easy.
It didn’t take long. After a brief conversation with Lin Zhiling and her friend, Lin Xinyi understood the full story. She finally knew why Xu Shijiu had gotten so upset that she ended up in a fight.
There was a knock at the door.
Xu Shijiu, who had just been about to climb into bed, froze. She quickly pulled a blanket over her thigh to hide the large bruise that hadn’t faded yet. Then she wheeled herself over to open the door.
Although several days had passed, the bruise was still clearly visible. Even though Lin Xinyi and her sister had been helping her apply herbal medicine every day, maybe the injury had been too severe, or maybe they were too gentle when applying it. Either way, the bruise remained.
At this hour, there were only two people who might come to see her. It was either Lin Xinyi or her sister. If they saw the bruise, they would definitely look at her with that same concerned expression again, and Xu Shijiu didn’t want to see it.
When she opened the door and saw Lin Xinyi standing there, she wasn’t surprised. She calmly let her inside.
“If you came for the medicine, my sister already came earlier. I’ve already used it,” Xu Shijiu explained. She assumed Lin Xinyi was there to check on her. The two often came at different times without telling each other, so sometimes they both ended up visiting her on the same night.
Lin Xinyi looked at her, her expression filled with complicated emotions.
“Lin Xinyi? What’s wrong?” Xu Shijiu noticed something was different about her tonight.
“I know your sister already came,” Lin Xinyi said softly. Her sister had told her just a little while ago.
“Then why are you here?” Xu Shijiu asked, clearly confused.
“Why did you get into a fight?” Lin Xinyi asked directly. The eyes that were usually so clear and calm now carried a mix of feelings that were hard to describe.
“Why are you suddenly asking me this again?” Xu Shijiu looked away uncomfortably. She thought they had already agreed not to talk about it anymore.
“You told your sister not to investigate.”
“Yes, I did.”
Lin Xinyi looked at her in silence. Suddenly, Xu Shijiu realized what might have happened.
“You didn’t go and look into it yourself, did you?”
Lin Xinyi didn’t nod or shake her head, but as soon as Xu Shijiu looked into her eyes, she knew the answer.
Xu Shijiu sighed and shrugged, though deep down she still had a tiny bit of hope. She asked carefully, “Did you find anything out?”
Maybe there was still a small chance that Lin Xinyi hadn’t discovered the truth. Maybe just twenty percent.
“What do you think?” Lin Xinyi gave a slight smile, more from frustration than amusement. At this point, she had made it more than obvious. Xu Shijiu was usually so sharp and aware, yet she still pretended not to know. Why couldn’t she just admit it?
Xu Shijiu stayed quiet. Since Lin Xinyi was already speaking this way, she clearly knew everything.
She really should have expected it. Lin Xinyi was popular and well connected at school. It would have been easy for her to find out anything she wanted.
“Did you fight because of what they said about you,” Lin Xinyi asked quietly, her voice shaking slightly, “or because of what they said about me?”
Those words were so difficult to say. Before coming here, she had prepared herself for a long time just to get them out.
Xu Shijiu was surprised. This didn’t sound like something Lin Xinyi would normally say. It made her wonder how much courage it had taken for Lin Xinyi to finally say this to her face.
“Answer me,” Lin Xinyi said softly. She couldn’t look into Xu Shijiu’s eyes anymore, and her face started turning red. She urged her to respond.
“Does it really matter why I got angry?” Xu Shijiu replied, not quite answering. She looked at Lin Xinyi with a faint smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“It does matter,” Lin Xinyi said seriously.
As a top-level Omega, Lin Xinyi had been deeply hurt and furious when she heard from Lin Zhiling’s friend what the students had said. It was impossible not to feel anything.
To those Alphas, were Omegas really nothing more than tools for giving birth? Just something to carry on the bloodline? Why did Alphas always treat Omegas like they were beneath them? Why?
She was ranked first in her grade. She had outperformed every Alpha in her year. Wasn’t that enough proof of her abilities? Didn’t that show that she, an Omega, was capable of being stronger and smarter than all of them?
Lin Xinyi had been so angry. But then she remembered how Xu Shijiu had stood up for her, how she had made those people pay for what they said. That gave her a small sense of comfort.
“I just couldn’t stand hearing them look down on you like that,” Xu Shijiu said calmly. She didn’t want Lin Xinyi to blame herself.
Omegas were often emotional and sensitive, even though Lin Xinyi was different from any other Omega she had ever met.
Lin Xinyi nodded slowly, as if deep in thought. She didn’t press any further. She simply said good night and left the room.
Although she had missed the English midterm, Xu Shijiu used that regret as motivation. In the second half of the semester, under Lin Xinyi’s close guidance, she began studying with real effort.
It always took Lin Xinyi a lot of time and patience to help her. Xu Shijiu never learned things quickly, and it often took multiple tries before something finally clicked.
Before they realized it, final exams were almost here. The two of them were spending even more time studying together.
One evening, Xu Manyue came home and walked in carrying two strawberry cakes. She went straight to the study and saw Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu going over a test paper. Lin Xinyi was explaining a problem, and Xu Shijiu was nodding as she listened.
“Xiaojiu, Xinyi, take a little break. I brought strawberry cake for you. Eat first, then you can keep studying,” Xu Manyue said warmly. She was so proud of how hard Xu Shijiu was working, and it was all thanks to Lin Xinyi’s encouragement.
“That’s great!” Xu Shijiu cheered and quickly pushed aside the English test paper that had been giving her a headache. But then she saw Lin Xinyi’s kind and gentle smile out of the corner of her eye and panicked a little. She quietly pulled the test paper back in front of her again.
“Jiejie bought your favorite strawberry cake. Let’s eat first, okay?”
“Okay,” Lin Xinyi replied, trying to hold back her laughter. Xu Shijiu’s reactions just now had genuinely amused her.
Lin Xinyi was known to be strict when it came to studying, but she never expected Xu Shijiu to be this afraid of her.
At first, she had been cautious not to be too harsh with Xu Shijiu. But once she became immersed in their study sessions, she stopped holding back and gradually became stricter without even realizing it.
Xu Shijiu understood that Lin Xinyi’s strictness was for her own good. In the beginning, when she had no interest in studying, she would openly show her frustration and even push Lin Xinyi away. But now, things had completely changed.
Now, Lin Xinyi had full control over her.
As an Alpha, being completely overpowered by an Omega was something others would find hard to believe if they ever heard about it.
Xu Shijiu had cared about that at first. But later, after seeing how hard Lin Xinyi worked, making notes and organizing materials just for her, there was nothing left for her to complain about.
“This one has more strawberries. You can have it,” Xu Shijiu said, handing over the strawberry-filled cake to Lin Xinyi as she usually did.
Lin Xinyi didn’t hesitate like she used to. She took it with a smile and started eating happily. Then she asked, “You don’t like strawberries?”
“They’re fine,” Xu Shijiu replied. She had no strong preferences when it came to food and didn’t really crave anything specific.
“By the way, Jiejie, how are things between you and Sister Liu now?” Xu Shijiu asked, looking at Xu Manyue. Not long ago, her sister had been acting strangely. When she asked, she found out there had been some tension between her sister and Liu Lingyan.
Since Liu Lingyan’s first visit to their home, she hadn’t been able to find the time to come again for a proper chat.
Xu Shijiu had wanted to create a chance for the two of them to spend time alone and talk things out, but there had never been a good opportunity.
Liu Lingyan was simply too busy.
“We’ve already made up,” Xu Manyue said, smiling as she thought back. “Your Sister Liu thought she might be pregnant, so she kept her distance for a while. I misunderstood what was going on.”
“Pregnant?” Xu Shijiu immediately sat up straight, her eyes wide with excitement as she looked at her sister.
“She wasn’t. Calm down,” Xu Manyue said quickly, waving her hands.
“I see…” Xu Shijiu leaned back in her chair, her expression unreadable. It was hard to tell if she felt disappointed or simply surprised.
“Were you hoping she was?” Xu Manyue asked, trying to read her expression.
She was curious. If her Omega really had been pregnant, what would Xu Shijiu’s reaction have been? Would she be scared or happy?
“No,” Xu Shijiu answered, shaking her head.
“For the final exams, I’m not worried about Xinyi at all. But Xiaojiu, do you think you can get a good score?” Xu Manyue asked, not pressing the previous topic. After all, Liu Lingyan was not actually pregnant.
“I’m not sure,” Xu Shijiu replied honestly.
“If she manages to understand and remember the key points, she might barely pass,” Lin Xinyi estimated. She had heard that the final exam papers were going to be difficult, so getting a high score would definitely not be easy.
“Passing is already great,” Xu Manyue said with a smile. She was easily satisfied, and seeing how much progress Xu Shijiu had made filled her with joy.
“After finals, the winter break starts. Do you want to go somewhere?” she asked. In previous years, it had always been just her and Xu Shijiu having a quiet New Year’s Eve dinner at the villa. That was how they spent the holiday. Xu Shijiu never wanted to go out.
But this year was different. With Lin Xinyi around, getting Xu Shijiu to leave the house would be much easier.
This year had been a turning point for Xu Shijiu. They needed to celebrate it properly.
If they stayed at home, their father might come back and stir up trouble again. Going out seemed like the better choice.
They hadn’t decided on a destination yet. But right after the finals, Lin Xinyi was invited out alone by Mo Jinlan.
And she said yes.
