You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 24
Xu Shijiu couldn’t hear what Lin Xinyi and Mo Jinlan were talking about. They were too far away, and she couldn’t even clearly see Lin Xinyi’s expression. There was no way for her to tell whether Mo Jinlan had confessed her feelings.
She simply didn’t know.
But then, she saw the two of them stand up. Lin Xinyi gave Mo Jinlan a hug. They looked very close.
That part, Xu Shijiu saw clearly.
Her face darkened immediately. The corners of her lips drooped. A hug like that felt way too intimate.
Could it be that Lin Xinyi had already accepted Mo Jinlan?
It had to be. Lin Xinyi was not the kind of Omega who would casually show affection like that to an Alpha without confirming their relationship. It just didn’t make sense otherwise.
While Xu Shijiu was stuck in her own assumptions, Xu Manyue noticed something else. Inside the cafe, there seemed to be a third person watching Lin Xinyi and Mo Jinlan. That person looked like the Omega who had been obsessively chasing after Mo Jinlan.
Maybe Mo Jinlan really did like Lin Xinyi. But Xu Manyue was sure about one thing—Lin Xinyi definitely didn’t like Mo Jinlan.
Aside from studying and planning her future, Lin Xinyi’s time was either spent helping classmates or assisting teachers. Whatever remained was completely taken up by Xu Shijiu. There was simply no room in her heart to be swayed by another Alpha.
If Lin Xinyi were to fall for someone, it would be her Xiao Jiu.
Xu Manyue had no doubts about that.
“Let’s go home,” Xu Shijiu said coldly.
“Xiao Jiu—” Xu Manyue quickly tried to explain. It was clear Xu Shijiu had completely misunderstood what had happened between Lin Xinyi and Mo Jinlan.
Before she could finish, Xu Shijiu interrupted with a voice so cold it felt frozen. “Home.”
Her emotions were off, and she was shutting down. She didn’t want to hear anything or talk to anyone. No matter what Xu Manyue wanted to say, she didn’t have a chance. In the end, all she could do was take her sister home.
On the way back, Xu Shijiu kept all her emotions bottled up. But once they were home, she finally reached her breaking point.
Just as Lin Xinyi entered the house and was about to turn the corner into the living room, she suddenly heard Xu Shijiu’s voice.
“She went to see another Alpha! How could she do this? She’s my Omega! Does she think I’m useless and doesn’t want me anymore?”
Xu Shijiu was clinging to Xu Manyue’s waist, her voice full of frustration and sorrow. She even sounded like she was about to cry.
The scene earlier had pushed her too far. She had lost all sense of reason.
Xu Manyue felt both heartbroken and amused as she looked up and met Lin Xinyi’s eyes from around the corner. They both wore the same helpless expression.
Lin Xinyi listened to Xu Shijiu’s emotional complaints. She pressed her fingers to her forehead. Honestly, she had asked for her opinion before leaving. Xu Shijiu had acted completely indifferent, and only then had she agreed to go.
How did it turn into her fault now?
“Xiao Jiu, calm down. Maybe things aren’t the way you think. Why don’t you ask Xinyi yourself?” Xu Manyue tried her best to calm her sister down and shot Lin Xinyi a meaningful glance.
“She’s not back yet,” Xu Shijiu muttered as she buried her face against her sister’s stomach, shaking her head over and over. As far as she was concerned, Lin Xinyi was still out with Mo Jinlan, probably enjoying herself. What was the point of asking?
“I’m back,” Lin Xinyi said softly as she walked up to them. She hesitated for a moment before speaking.
Xu Shijiu froze completely. Lin Xinyi was home.
Which meant she had probably heard everything.
Had she just heard her emotional outburst? Her complaints? All of it?
Just the thought of that possibility made Xu Shijiu’s face burn with embarrassment.
If Lin Xinyi had heard everything, it was mortifying.
“I didn’t go looking for another Alpha,” Lin Xinyi said seriously, trying to clear things up.
“You’re lying. Mo Jinlan is an Alpha,” Xu Shijiu snapped, unable to hold back. Mo Jinlan wasn’t just any Alpha—she was a top-tier Alpha.
“She was the one who asked me out,” Lin Xinyi clarified. She hadn’t gone looking for anyone.
Xu Shijiu started to feel a little better. But then she remembered the hug and her mood sank again.
Seeing that Xu Shijiu was still hiding in her sister’s arms, refusing to lift her head or respond, Lin Xinyi felt at a loss. She thought for a moment, then decided to continue explaining based on what Xu Shijiu had just said.
“I don’t think you’re useless. And I definitely haven’t given up on you.”
She said it with complete sincerity. There was a pause in her words, though. That last part felt slightly off, but she couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong with it.
Before she could think about it more, Xu Shijiu’s reaction pulled her attention back.
“You’re lying,” Xu Shijiu said, sounding more hurt than ever. She had seen that hug with her own eyes.
Lin Xinyi had no idea how to deal with someone as stubborn as Xu Shijiu.
“When I got there, Mo Jinlan was late. We sat down and talked for a bit. I ordered a juice. Then, she told me that she liked me.”
Hearing this, Xu Shijiu’s heart tightened.
She knew it. Mo Jinlan had been interested in Lin Xinyi all along. She had seen the signs from the very beginning of the school year. Every day, Mo Jinlan went out of her way to be attentive, bringing Lin Xinyi warm milk and hot water. But Lin Xinyi never reacted and always ignored these gestures, treating them as if they didn’t exist.
Even though she rejected Mo Jinlan’s advances, Xu Shijiu had still heard Lin Xinyi compliment her a few times. Sometimes, she even asked Mo Jinlan for help with math problems.
To Lin Xinyi, Mo Jinlan, as a top-tier Alpha, must have seemed different.
Lin Xinyi paused on purpose, but when she noticed that Xu Shijiu didn’t react, she couldn’t explain the strange feeling of disappointment that crept into her chest.
So, she continued.
“I turned her down.”
Xu Shijiu’s hands trembled slightly without her even realizing it.
She had rejected her.
But then, why would Lin Xinyi still give Mo Jinlan a hug after turning her down? Was it meant to comfort her? That did not seem like something Lin Xinyi would do.
“Just now, Mo Jinlan told me there’s an Omega who keeps clinging to her. She asked if I could hug her so that person would back off. I agreed.”
Lin Xinyi explained everything clearly, without leaving out any details.
When Mo Jinlan first made the request, Lin Xinyi had refused. But seeing how hurt she looked, and remembering how much help she had received from Mo Jinlan in the past, she eventually gave in out of kindness.
Xu Shijiu felt like she had been pulled straight out of despair and into relief. So it was not what she had imagined. Lin Xinyi did not have feelings for Mo Jinlan. She had not accepted her confession. She had not fallen for her.
Lin Xinyi had not chosen to walk away from her.
Everything had just been a misunderstanding.
It hit her too late, and now she realized how unfair she had been. Jumping to conclusions, assuming things that were never true, treating Lin Xinyi that way—it was wrong.
Now she felt embarrassed and ashamed.
Everything had been a mistake.
And on top of that, she had followed Lin Xinyi in secret.
“Jiejie,” Lin Xinyi said softly, noticing that Xu Shijiu still refused to respond. Out of options, she turned to Xu Manyue, silently asking for help.
“It’s alright, Xinyi. I’ll take Xiao Jiu to her room so she can calm down,” Xu Manyue said with understanding. She knew what was going on in Xu Shijiu’s heart. Right now, she needed space to sort out her emotions. Xu Manyue gently pushed her sister back into her room.
Once inside, Xu Shijiu finally lifted her head, though her cheeks were still flushed with embarrassment.
“I warned you, didn’t I? I told you to talk to Xinyi and ask her what she really thought,” Xu Manyue said with a half-smile, watching her sister with mild amusement. She had given her advice from the very beginning.
Xu Shijiu said nothing. She knew she had been wrong.
“Now calm down. Don’t let Xinyi worry about you,” Xu Manyue said as she reached out and gently pinched her sister’s cheek with a teasing grin.
Xu Shijiu nodded quietly.
“By the way,” Xu Manyue began, eyeing her sister closely, a thought forming in her mind.
“What is it?” Xu Shijiu looked up, puzzled by her sister’s sudden seriousness.
“Do you like Lin Xinyi?” Xu Manyue finally asked. She had been holding it in for too long. Xu Shijiu’s behavior today had gone far beyond what would be expected of a friend.
Xu Manyue did not believe for a second that this was just friendship.
That earlier outburst—calling Lin Xinyi “my Omega”—was far too direct. If Xu Shijiu really thought of her as just a friend, how could she say something like that?
“No,” Xu Shijiu said immediately, shaking her head. “She’s just a friend to me.”
Xu Manyue gave her a look of disbelief. That denial had come too quickly. It sounded more like a defense than the truth.
It only made her more certain.
Xu Shijiu did not even realize it herself.
The idea of liking someone, of having romantic feelings, was still unfamiliar to her.
She thought she only saw Lin Xinyi as a friend.
But was that really true?
Suddenly, the question echoed in her own heart.
Was Lin Xinyi really just a friend?
Xu Shijiu’s relaxed expression slowly disappeared. She rested her chin on her hand, her eyes full of confusion and doubt.
Her sister had asked if she liked Lin Xinyi.
Why would she ask that?
Did she really like her?
Was this just friendship?
What did it even mean to like someone?
What was that feeling, really?
