You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 26
For several days in a row, Xu Shijiu showed no warmth toward Xu Manyue. There was no outburst, no anger—just a calm and distant coldness. But it was exactly that calmness that made Xu Manyue feel incredibly nervous. She didn’t dare bring anything up.
Lin Xinyi also didn’t know how to comfort Shijiu. All she could do was let her cool off. She hadn’t expected this cooling-off period to last for several days. Even when Shijiu was doing her homework, she kept zoning out, completely unreachable.
“Xu Shijiu.”
“Hmm?”
Xu Shijiu blinked and slowly returned to reality. She looked blankly at Lin Xinyi, her eyes still unfocused, though she could clearly sense the helplessness in Xinyi’s expression.
“Can we talk?” Lin Xinyi asked patiently. She really didn’t know what else to do. Things couldn’t keep going on like this.
Xu Shijiu hesitated. She still didn’t like to talk about what was on her mind.
“Hmm?” Lin Xinyi didn’t rush her and gently asked again.
Looking into Lin Xinyi’s clear, earnest eyes, Xu Shijiu felt as if she were under a spell. Without realizing it, she nodded.
Even though Shijiu agreed, Lin Xinyi wasn’t sure where to begin. Then, her eyes happened to fall on the suitcase by the window, still neatly packed and half-concealed by the curtains.
“You haven’t unpacked your suitcase yet?” Lin Xinyi asked in surprise.
After all, they had already decided not to go on the trip anymore.
The moment she brought it up, a trace of regret appeared on Shijiu’s face.
She had been looking forward to it. For years, she had never traveled far, never even left the city. Although she still felt nervous and a little scared, with Lin Xinyi and her sister by her side, she had found the courage to face a new world and experience new things. But now, all of that was gone.
“Let me help you unpack,” Lin Xinyi offered as she opened the suitcase. Seeing the lingering disappointment on Shijiu’s face, she added gently, “It’s okay. We have so much time ahead of us. There will be plenty of chances to go wherever you want to go.”
“So much time…” Xu Shijiu repeated quietly. Watching Lin Xinyi carefully unpack her things, her heart filled with a quiet warmth.
Lin Xinyi had said they had so much time ahead.
That felt really comforting.
“You’re actually happy, aren’t you? To have a new family member by bl00d,” Lin Xinyi said as she continued organizing. She hadn’t noticed the small smile that had appeared on Shijiu’s lips because of her words.
Over the past few days, Lin Xinyi had caught glimpses of Shijiu’s phone screen. Almost every time, she was browsing baby products.
That was why, compared to Manyue’s anxiety, Lin Xinyi always felt certain when offering comfort. Because she knew—Xu Shijiu truly cared about the baby.
Even though she never showed it openly.
Shijiu was just that kind of Alpha. Awkward and hard to read.
Xu Shijiu heard the faint envy in Xinyi’s tone. She suddenly remembered that Lin Xinyi no longer had any family in this world, and her heart tightened. She didn’t know how to respond.
Talking about family must be painful for Xinyi.
“Whether it’s Sister Liu or the baby, I’m sure your sister still holds you in a very special place in her heart. You are important to her, without a doubt,” Lin Xinyi continued, undeterred by Shijiu’s silence.
“You’re her only sister. Of course she loves you deeply.”
“My sister wasn’t like this when we were little,” Xu Shijiu murmured. Her expression darkened slightly.
“Huh?” Lin Xinyi paused and looked at her, not quite understanding what she meant.
“She used to dislike me,” Xu Shijiu said with a strained smile. Her whole body seemed to radiate loneliness.
That was the real reason behind her fear. She was afraid that once her sister had everything—a partner, a baby—she wouldn’t need her anymore. She wouldn’t protect her the way she used to.
Her sister was the only family she had left.
The one person who had truly loved her—their mother—was already gone. All she had now was her sister. And if she lost her too… then she would have nothing.
“She used to—” Lin Xinyi was about to say “How could that be?” but the words caught in her throat when she saw the redness in Shijiu’s eyes.
“Maybe my sister only treats me well now because I’ve become like this,” Xu Shijiu said in a trembling voice, barely holding back tears. She was terrified. Her sister was the only person who had never looked down on her. If she lost that love too, if her sister stopped caring, then what would she have left?
She didn’t know what place someone like her still had in this world.
“Why would you think that?” Lin Xinyi was stunned. She didn’t know enough about their past to say anything definitive. She didn’t want to judge or say something careless.
“I…” Xu Shijiu couldn’t go on. Her voice trembled. Her eyes were red, but no tears fell. Somehow, that made it all the more painful to watch.
Lin Xinyi immediately moved to her side and knelt down in front of her. She took Shijiu’s cold hands in hers, her gaze filled with heartache.
“Don’t think like that,” she said softly.
Shijiu hadn’t meant to keep talking. But as she looked into Xinyi’s eyes, she felt an overwhelming urge to open up. To tell her everything.
“This isn’t just in my head. It’s real.”
“Okay,” Xinyi said simply.
She didn’t know the details of the Xu sisters’ past. She couldn’t offer solutions or advice. All she could do was stay with Shijiu, respond when needed, and hold her hand tighter whenever she clenched her fists in anxiety.
It was a good sign that Shijiu was willing to talk.
If she had kept everything buried inside, those hidden wounds would have only continued to fester and rot, making them harder and harder to heal.
Perhaps even now, those wounds were already deep and difficult to mend. But the fact that she was finally willing to speak meant there was still hope for healing.
“When I was little, I always lived with my mother. My sister stayed with our grandfather. Every time he brought her back home, she would ignore me completely. She didn’t like me.”
Xu Shijiu’s voice was soft and filled with sadness. She remembered everything clearly. As she spoke to Lin Xinyi, her expression grew more and more downcast.
Lin Xinyi listened carefully. But looking at Shijiu’s sorrowful face, she couldn’t help but think of a little child in kindergarten, pouting and tugging on a teacher’s sleeve to complain about being mistreated.
Honestly, she just couldn’t picture Xu Manyue ever disliking her sister. Even in her imagination, the image wouldn’t form.
Later, Lin Xinyi walked out of the room, carrying a stack of books. Her expression was thoughtful and conflicted. When she saw Xu Manyue standing anxiously by the door, her mood became even more complicated. She wasn’t sure whether she should share what Shijiu had said.
“Xinyi, did you two talk about something?” Xu Manyue asked immediately. She could tell something was off. Usually when Xinyi came out, her eyes showed only quiet helplessness. But today was different. Something had changed.
“We did talk,” Xinyi said softly. “But… I don’t know if I should tell you what it was about.”
“Why not? Is it something she can’t share with me?” Xu Manyue’s brows furrowed. Her worry only deepened.
“It kind of is,” Xinyi admitted honestly. She knew she couldn’t hide it.
Xu Manyue sighed. “She still can’t accept Yanyan and the baby, can she?”
“I don’t think that’s the real issue,” Lin Xinyi said, her voice calm and sure. “I don’t believe she minds those things at all.”
Then she paused for a moment and continued, gently.
“She’s afraid of losing you. She’s scared that once you have someone more important in your life, once you have your Omega and your baby, you won’t care about her anymore.”
Xu Shijiu was an Alpha who deeply lacked a sense of security. She had a habit of overthinking things, and this was no exception.
Xu Manyue fell silent. She had never considered that her sister might be feeling this way. The idea caught her completely off guard.
“What else did she say?” she asked, her voice much quieter now.
Lin Xinyi hesitated. Then she looked at Manyue and replied honestly.
“She said that when you were kids, you didn’t like her.”
She tried to soften the words, but there was no gentle way to say something like that.
Xu Manyue stood frozen, her eyes widening slightly in shock. She hadn’t expected that. She hadn’t thought Shijiu would mention their childhood. And she definitely hadn’t imagined she would tell Lin Xinyi about it.
She had always known that Shijiu treated Xinyi differently. With others—no matter if they were Alphas or Omegas—Shijiu had always kept her distance. But she hadn’t realized that Shijiu trusted Xinyi enough to share her past with her.
She hadn’t known just how special Xinyi had become to her.
“Is it true?” Lin Xinyi asked carefully. From the way Xu Manyue fell silent, she had already guessed part of the truth.
After a long pause, Xu Manyue gave a small nod.
“Yes. It’s true.”
Even though she had heard it from Shijiu already, Xinyi was still surprised. It was hard to believe. The two sisters always seemed so close. It was almost impossible to imagine a time when Xu Manyue disliked her younger sister.
“When I was little… after Mom had Shijiu, it felt like she didn’t need me anymore.”
Xu Manyue didn’t finish her sentence, but even those few words were enough to make Xinyi understand.
Looking at the closed door of her sister’s room, Xu Manyue felt an ache in her chest. She hadn’t known that Shijiu was still holding on to those memories. She hadn’t realized how much her sister still worried about being pushed aside.
