You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 3
It was dinnertime, but only Xu Manyue and Lin Xinyi were sitting at the table.
“The Omega inhibitors, the special suppressant patches, and the pheromone blockers are all prepared. If you run out of anything, just let me or the housekeeper know, and we’ll make sure to restock them,” Xu Manyue said gently. She took a bite of food, then looked at the nervous Omega and reminded her with care.
“Mm, I understand. Thank you, Sister,” Lin Xinyi replied politely. She felt that this Alpha sister was unbelievably kind, far more gentle and considerate than any Alpha she had met before.
Xu Manyue was so gentle, but how could her sister be so harsh?
Lin Xinyi really couldn’t figure that out.
Her fiancée, Xu Xiaojiu, had a lovely name, but her temper was not as pleasant. Still…
Xu Xiaojiu’s deep and distant eyes appeared in her mind again. Lin Xinyi fell silent. She thought, Xu Xiaojiu must have been through a lot of pain. Otherwise, her eyes wouldn’t look like that.
The food on the table was full of flavors she never had a chance to taste at the orphanage, but to her, it all felt bland and tasteless.
She lifted her head slightly, her eyes darting around nervously. No matter where she looked, her gaze always landed on Xu Xiaojiu’s tightly closed door.
She was so distracted that she didn’t notice she had only been eating plain rice without touching any of the dishes. She also didn’t notice the subtle, half-smiling expression on Xu Manyue’s face.
“Sister, is Xu Xiaojiu not coming down for dinner?” Lin Xinyi finally put down her chopsticks. She looked seriously at Xu Manyue and couldn’t stop herself from asking.
Was it because of her?
Because she came, Xu Xiaojiu didn’t want to eat with them?
Xu Xiaojiu…
She called out the full name softly in her heart. Xu Manyue found it interesting. All the others she had seen before either called her Xiaojiu or Shijiu. Some even used nicknames like Ah Shi or Ah Jiu. Lin Xinyi was the first one to call her full name with such seriousness.
“It’s not because of you, don’t take it to heart. That girl ate a lot at lunch. After I finish eating, I’ll bring her meal upstairs,” Xu Manyue said with a smile, shaking her head. No matter how she tried to convince her, Xiaojiu simply refused to come down. She had no choice but to go along with it.
Lin Xinyi lowered her head and stared at the half bowl of rice in front of her. The delicious dishes on the table no longer stirred her appetite.
Although Xu Manyue said it was not because of her, Lin Xinyi knew very well that Xu Xiaojiu only had a little for lunch. It had been hours since then. There was no way she wasn’t hungry. She just didn’t want to see her or share the same table.
Before coming to the Xu family, Lin Xinyi had told herself that she must never give the family a reason to dislike her. But now it seemed…
They hadn’t even spent time together, and Xu Xiaojiu already disliked her this much.
Xu Manyue noticed Lin Xinyi’s low spirits and sensed the uneasiness in her heart. She sighed silently and tried to comfort her. “Xinyi, give Xiaojiu some time.”
She hadn’t meant to say so much. After all, Lin Xinyi was still just an eleven-year-old child. She had planned to simply soothe her, but the girl took everything very seriously.
“I’m sorry for disturbing your lives,” Lin Xinyi said sincerely. She knew she was an outsider, and her presence had disrupted their home.
Hearing the little Omega’s polite tone, Xu Manyue smiled and shook her head. “Don’t say that. You’re not disturbing anyone. From now on, you’re part of the Xu family. Just treat this as your home.”
Perhaps at first, because Lin Xinyi had been brought by Xu Father, Xu Manyue had felt a bit distant from the child. But now, seeing how thoughtful and sincere she was, her heart finally softened.
“Thank you for taking me in. I’ll try to become independent as soon as I can, so I won’t be a burden,” Lin Xinyi said seriously. Her tone didn’t sound like a child’s at all. It sounded more like someone who had been through many hardships.
Xu Manyue didn’t expect Lin Xinyi to be this kind of child. Listening to her words, she didn’t know whether to respond or just pretend she hadn’t heard. She hesitated too long and missed the best moment to reply.
Actually, before coming to the Xu household, Lin Xinyi had been worried about one thing in particular: pheromones.
Xu Father never wore a pheromone blocker. Even though Lin Xinyi did and kept her distance, as a top-level Omega with a highly sensitive sense of smell, she could still detect pheromones easily.
So when she first arrived and smelled Xu Father’s intense white tulip Alpha scent, it made her feel dizzy and uncomfortable. The scent was too strong, and it overwhelmed her senses.
She had worried that the rest of the Xu family, being Alphas, would be the same. If none of them used blockers, then for someone as sensitive as her, it would be unbearable.
But to her surprise, the reality was completely different. Both Xu sisters wore suppression patches. In fact, they were the most attractive Alphas she had ever seen.
If Xu Xiaojiu didn’t cover her forehead with bangs, she would look even more beautiful.
Later, after Xu Manyue finished dinner and brought the meal to Xu Xiaojiu’s room, the sulking girl was already lying on her bed, weak and worn out.
“Xiaojiu, it’s time to eat,” Xu Manyue said as she looked at the girl lying motionless on the bed. She didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh.
She had tried so hard earlier to convince her to come down. Xiaojiu had insisted she wasn’t hungry. Now look at her, suffering for the sake of pride and stubbornness.
Honestly…
Even Xu Manyue didn’t know how to deal with her strange little sister.
“Sis!” Xu Xiaojiu immediately sat up on the bed. Her eyes lit up when she saw the food box on the table. She frowned slightly as she asked, “What are we having tonight?”
Seeing the excitement in Xiaojiu’s eyes, Xu Manyue felt both helpless and amused. She answered kindly, “Auntie made your favorite, braised chicken with chestnuts. I saved the best parts for you.”
“Wow, thank you, Sis!” Xu Xiaojiu’s mouth was already watering at the smell of the food.
“Xiaojiu, are you planning to eat all your meals in your room from now on?” Xu Manyue asked, watching her sister devour the food like she hadn’t eaten in days. She felt a mix of worry and resignation.
Usually, Xu Xiaojiu only stayed in her room during dinner when their father was home. But now that Lin Xinyi had arrived, it seemed like Xiaojiu planned to hide in her room all the time.
That would not do.
Xu Xiaojiu was chewing on a chicken drumstick when she heard her sister’s words. Her interest in eating faded right away.
To be honest, she really had planned to avoid Lin Xinyi altogether. Not seeing each other was easier for everyone.
“Xiaojiu, Xinyi is a good kid. Can’t you two try to get along?” Xu Manyue asked again. She remembered that Xiaojiu hadn’t always been so resistant to kids her age. Something had changed. It started after that one business trip. When she returned home, Xiaojiu just wasn’t the same.
But what exactly had changed…
Her personality was still quiet and distant, but now she completely avoided her peers. Xu Manyue wondered if something had happened while she was away.
She had tried asking, but Xiaojiu always avoided the question. She even sent someone to look into it, but they found nothing useful.
“No, I can’t,” Xu Xiaojiu replied with clear frustration. Letting Lin Xinyi stay in the house was already the most she could handle. Forcing her to see or talk to her every day was out of the question.
“You really can’t?” Xu Manyue asked, feeling troubled. She had been hoping Xiaojiu could start going to school again, but now that seemed even less possible.
“Sister, I’m eating. Please stop talking,” Xu Xiaojiu said seriously. “You’re not supposed to talk while eating or lying in bed.”
Xu Manyue gave a light laugh. “Since when have you ever followed that rule?”
Xiaojiu had always been the type to avoid difficult things.
She hadn’t always been like this.
Before the accident, Xiaojiu had been bright and full of laughter. But now…
Everything had changed. It was her fault. She had caused it. But the ones paying the price were her little sister and their mother.
Even though Xiaojiu had said not to talk while eating, she ended up breaking her own rule.
“Sister, when you’re at home, you have to wear your pheromone blocker all the time,” Xu Xiaojiu said seriously. She didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea about her sister.
“Silly girl, that child is only eleven. What could she possibly know?” Xu Manyue laughed, amused by her sister’s worry.
“You don’t understand. It’s always the younger Omegas who fall for older Al Alphas,” Xu Xiaojiu said, shaking her head like she had real experience.
“You think you know more than I do? You’ve barely even been around Omegas. What are you talking about?” Xu Manyue replied, laughing again. She had already experienced that side of things. She had an Omega of her own now.
“Sister, don’t tell me you already have an Omega?” Xu Xiaojiu suddenly asked. Her eyes stared straight at Xu Manyue, as if she was trying to read her mind.
“Of course not,” Xu Manyue said with a guilty smile, quickly shaking her head. “I’m either at home or at the company. I haven’t been anywhere else. How could I have an Omega?”
“Then why were your glands swollen the other day?” Xu Xiaojiu pressed.
“It was just because of my heat cycle,” Xu Manyue answered calmly, doing her best to stay composed.
“I see,” Xu Xiaojiu said, nodding as if she understood.
“I stayed in my room those days because of it,” Xu Manyue added.
She had stayed in her room, yes, but not the whole time. She had ended up going out to find the Omega she loved. And while she was out, she had the bad luck to trip and scrape her knee.
That part of the story, she would never tell Xu Xiaojiu.
