You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 5
The video had been edited by Xu Xiaojiu when she was bored. Although Xu Manyue was wearing different clothes in each clip, the content was basically the same.
She was constantly climbing up and down, falling again and again, looking completely messy and ridiculous. It was clumsy and even a little funny.
Watching herself fall over and over in the video, Xu Manyue didn’t even get the chance to question why such footage existed. Her face turned red with embarrassment. Falling once or twice might have been excusable, but there were so many different clips, each showing a different way she had managed to fall.
It was truly humiliating.
“Sis, your face is turning red. You look just like you do during your sensitivity period,” Xu Xiaojiu said with a teasing expression, not giving her sister any room to escape.
Xu Manyue looked up at Xiaojiu’s amused face, and without thinking, grabbed the little blanket on her sister’s lap and tossed it over her face.
“That’s what you get for spying. Look at you, all grown up now, even installing hidden cameras!” Xu Manyue said, flustered and angry. But the way she hit her sister with her fists was so light, it couldn’t hurt anyone.
Based on the video footage, the camera had clearly been there for a long time. Xu Manyue truly hadn’t expected it.
All those careful and secretive efforts. What was the point if her every move had been caught on camera?
She had thought she was being cautious, but it turned out everything she did had been watched by Xiaojiu the whole time.
“You have an Omega now, and you still hit me? You’re so unfair!” Xu Xiaojiu grumbled from under the blanket, trying hard to pull it off but failing. Her voice was full of frustration.
She was already feeling upset that her sister had an Omega. She didn’t even know what to do with the emotions bubbling inside her. Her sister wasn’t even comforting her, and now she was bullying her on top of that.
Xu Manyue looked at her little sister, struggling under the blanket. Her heart softened slightly.
Then she heard Xiaojiu’s words and realized that she might have gone too far. If Xiaojiu waited until now to bring it up, it meant she had been holding it in for a long time. Maybe she still didn’t know how to deal with the idea of her sister having an Omega. Teasing her like this only made it worse.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. Xiaojiu, please forgive me,” Xu Manyue said immediately. She gently pulled the blanket away and gave her sister an awkward but sincere smile.
“So now that you have an Omega, you don’t care about your little sister anymore?” Xu Xiaojiu replied with a sweet smile and an overly gentle tone that didn’t match how she really felt.
“Absolutely not,” Xu Manyue quickly shook her head. She wouldn’t dare mess around with a question like that. One wrong answer and she would be in serious trouble.
“Then you’re admitting you have an Omega,” Xu Xiaojiu said quietly. She lowered her head so that her sister couldn’t see her face, and her voice sounded unsure.
“What if I told you I was sneaking out to see a doctor?” Xu Manyue shifted her gaze, clearly feeling guilty. “Would you believe me?”
“You think I’m an idiot?” Xu Xiaojiu gave a dry laugh.
She had always thought her sister was smart. So why did she come up with such a lousy excuse?
Go see a doctor? Then why sneak out instead of using the front door?
And if it really was a medical visit, why did she look so nervous about it? They had a family doctor at home. A simple phone call would have been enough. Why go through all the trouble of sneaking out?
That excuse was full of holes. Clearly, her sister thought she was still a child who could be easily fooled.
“Uh…” Xu Manyue knew her excuse didn’t make sense. She gave an awkward laugh and said nothing more.
At that moment, Lin Xinyi came out of her room. What she saw was the two sisters facing each other in silence.
As soon as Xu Manyue saw her, her expression lit up. She rushed over with a smile. “Xinyi, what are you doing out here? Are you thirsty? Let me get you some water.”
Xu Xiaojiu glanced at her sister, who had grabbed Lin Xinyi’s thermos and fled toward the kitchen, and rolled her eyes.
She had never seen her sister act so cowardly before.
“Um…” Lin Xinyi looked at Xu Xiaojiu, then at the blanket on the floor. She asked gently, “Do you want me to help you pick up the blanket?”
She could tell that Xu Xiaojiu was keeping her distance, so she didn’t dare make any sudden moves.
“No need,” Xu Xiaojiu replied without looking at her. She grabbed one side of her wheelchair with one hand and stretched out the other, trying to reach the blanket on the ground.
Lin Xinyi watched her movements and grew nervous. Xu Xiaojiu was leaning too far forward, and the wheelchair’s brakes weren’t locked. At this angle, she was going to fall.
As if to confirm her fear, the next second, Xu Xiaojiu tipped over and fell out of the chair.
Xu Xiaojiu reacted quickly, closing her eyes and protecting her head. The floor was covered with soft carpets to prevent injury. The only thing she worried about was the wheelchair landing on her.
But to her surprise, no pain came.
“Are you alright?”
A soft, clear voice rang in her ears. Xu Xiaojiu slowly opened her eyes and saw Lin Xinyi holding onto the wheelchair with both hands. She had caught it just in time and stopped it from hitting her.
Lin Xinyi’s delicate face was full of worry.
It was probably the first time Xu Xiaojiu had ever been this close to an Omega. Even though she couldn’t smell Lin Xinyi’s pheromones, she could catch the soft scent of roses from her suppression patch.
It smelled really nice.
“Xu Xiaojiu?” Lin Xinyi called her name again, worried because she wasn’t saying anything.
Had she hit her head too hard?
“Oh.” Xu Xiaojiu blinked and came back to her senses. When she met Lin Xinyi’s concerned eyes, she suddenly felt embarrassed. She lowered her head and brushed her bangs down.
If this Omega saw the scar on her forehead, she would probably be scared. Omegas were usually more sensitive.
Xu Manyue came out just in time to see her sister lying on the floor. Her worry overwhelmed her previous hesitation. She handed Lin Xinyi the thermos and quickly rushed to help.
“Xiaojiu, how did you fall?” she asked anxiously.
“I wasn’t careful,” Xu Xiaojiu muttered. She obediently held out her hands so her sister could lift her back into the chair.
Lin Xinyi pressed the wheelchair’s brake, then quietly stepped aside. She didn’t want to stand too close. If she got too near, she was afraid this Alpha would start pushing her away again.
“You know, the carpet on the floor makes falling harmless, but if the wheelchair lands on you, that would really hurt. Can’t you be more careful?” Xu Manyue gently lifted Xu Xiaojiu back into her wheelchair while still nagging her a little.
“This time it really was an accident,” Xu Xiaojiu muttered. She would never admit that she often fell out of her wheelchair.
Lin Xinyi listened to the two sisters exchanging words of concern. Her eyes showed a moment of confusion before she silently turned and went back to her room.
Back when her father was still alive, they used to talk like this too. They would always chat at home. At the time, she sometimes thought her father was too naggy. But now…
Now, even if she wanted to hear that voice again, she never could.
That time with her father had been so precious, but it wasn’t until it was completely gone that she realized how valuable it truly was.
People always seem to understand what matters only after losing it.
If only she had known her father would have an accident, that he would leave her so soon…
If she had known, she wouldn’t have complained about his nagging. She wouldn’t have pushed him out of the kitchen when he tried to talk to her. If she had known, she wouldn’t have turned away from the meals he made, wouldn’t have crushed his enthusiasm when he proudly presented his cooking. If she had known, she wouldn’t have ignored his last call just because she was upset over something small. If she had only known…
Maybe her father wouldn’t have closed his eyes for the last time to the cold, endless sound of the phone ringing with no answer. He never got the chance to say what he wanted. He didn’t even get to leave her with a final message.
Her mother had passed away when she was born. Her father had raised her alone. But in the end, she had missed his last call.
She pulled out her phone. She didn’t go to her contact list. Instead, she looked at the number pad and began to press each digit of the only phone number she knew by heart.
She finished dialing.
As she stared at the eleven-digit number, her hand began to tremble slightly.
She pressed the call button.
…
What she heard was a cold, automated voice telling her the number had been disconnected.
Her arm dropped, and the phone slipped from her fingers. It hit the floor with a dull thud, as if the phone itself was protesting the way it had been treated.
She walked to the tall window and looked up at the sky.
The clouds were thick and gray, hanging low and heavy. The sky looked like it was about to rain, and somehow it made her chest feel even heavier.
She took the pocket watch from around her neck and held it in her hands. When she opened it, her father’s Alpha scent slowly filled the air. It was a soft and cool scent, like lemon cocktail. The moment it reached her nose, memories of her father came rushing back.
After he passed, medical staff were instructed by authorities to extract his pheromones directly from his gland. It was a special procedure, done only after every attempt to save him had failed. The preserved scent was given to Lin Xinyi to keep.
She used to wait for her father to come home, no matter how late it was.
But now…
Now she would wait forever, because the person who was supposed to come home had lost his way. He no longer knew how to return.
Tears silently welled up in her eyes, then slowly slid down her cheeks. They fell onto her black shirt and disappeared into the fabric, quiet and unnoticed, just like her sorrow.
“Liar,” Lin Xinyi whispered as she clutched the pocket watch tightly. Her voice was hoarse and full of pain.
Before his mission, her father had promised her he would come back. He even said he would bring her favorite strawberry cake when he returned.
He had never lied to her. Never once. Every promise he had ever made, he had kept. Until this time.
This time, he broke his promise.
He was never coming back.
And in this world, there was no one left who loved her like he did.
