You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 6
In the end, Xu Manyue agreed to Xu Xiaojiu’s request to meet her Omega. In exchange, she made a condition of her own: from now on, Xiaojiu could no longer stay locked in her room on purpose. She had to come out and eat meals with them.
“So when are you going to bring her over?” Xu Xiaojiu asked immediately. She had no hesitation in agreeing to her sister’s condition.
She didn’t dislike Lin Xinyi. Having meals with her wasn’t difficult.
Lin Xinyi’s eyes were clear and sincere. There was no pity or sympathy in them, nothing fake or forced. That gave Xu Xiaojiu a sense of peace.
She even liked the rose scent of the pheromone blocker Lin Xinyi used. It was soft, familiar, and comforting.
Somehow, the scent of roses suited Lin Xinyi perfectly. Even though Xu Xiaojiu didn’t understand why she felt so certain, her instinct told her that Lin Xinyi was just like a rose. She looked delicate and gentle, beautiful on the outside, but she had her own quiet strength and sharpness hidden beneath. Just like the thorns on a rose stem, Lin Xinyi used her own way to protect herself and keep others at a distance.
Xu Xiaojiu had always liked the smell of roses. When their mother was still alive, her pheromone blocker had carried that same fragrance.
Her sister had tried before. She once brought Omegas who wore rose-scented blockers to get close to her. But all they made Xu Xiaojiu feel was disgust. Yet when it came to Lin Xinyi, it was completely different.
There was something else. Something she couldn’t quite explain.
“Xiaojiu, I still need to talk to her about it,” Xu Manyue said with a helpless look. Her Omega wasn’t just sitting at home waiting. She had her own job, her own career. Right now, she was busy, moving from one engagement to another. It wouldn’t be easy to find time for a meeting.
“Alright,” Xu Xiaojiu said. She didn’t press the issue. Even if they did meet soon, she wasn’t sure what kind of attitude she would have or how she would respond.
Before the accident, she and her sister hadn’t been particularly close.
She remembered that from a very young age, Xu Manyue had been favored by their grandfather. Most of the time, her sister stayed with him. Their father was constantly traveling, and their grandfather always had something to criticize about their mother. Eventually, he took Xu Manyue to live in the old house.
Xu Xiaojiu had never understood why their grandfather liked her sister so much but seemed to dislike her.
Whenever her sister was around, their grandfather wore a gentle, kind smile. He treated Xiaojiu nicely too. But when her sister wasn’t there, that smile disappeared completely. Whenever he looked at her, his face turned cold and disgusted. He even told her not to call him “Grandfather.”
“Are you leaving again, Sister?” Five-year-old Xiaojiu had asked, holding onto the sleeve of her sister’s clothes. She wore a pretty floral dress and looked up with wide eyes.
“Yes,” replied fourteen-year-old Xu Manyue with a calm nod.
“Can you stay?” Xiaojiu’s soft voice sounded fragile and hopeful.
Xu Manyue had been caught off guard. Xiaojiu had never said anything like that before.
She had never asked her to stay.
Even though they were siblings, they were nine years apart. People said that even a three-year age gap could feel like a generation. Between them, there were three. They didn’t play together, didn’t share the same world. There wasn’t much of a deep sisterly bond.
“When you leave, Mommy gets really sad,” Xiaojiu said, lifting her head as high as she could to look at her tall sister. “Can’t you stay just a little longer?”
She didn’t want to see their mother cry. Even if her sister stayed only a little while, it would make their mother happy. That was enough.
“Staying here will only make her even more sad,” Xu Manyue answered, shaking her head. Her eyes, however, held sorrow and confusion.
She had never understood why their mother didn’t seem to love her. When her grandfather took her away, her mother never once tried to stop it. Was it because she had Xiaojiu now? Did that mean there was no room left for her?
“Why would you think that?” Xiaojiu asked. She might have been small, but she could understand a lot. Her sister’s words made her upset.
How could her sister know what their mother felt?
Xiaojiu had seen everything. Every time her sister left, their mother would hold her in her arms and watch the car drive away from the balcony. She would keep watching even after the car was long gone, her eyes still fixed on the road.
Their mother never cried in public. She was always smiling. But during those moments, she cried silently.
No matter how much Xiaojiu comforted her, it never helped.
“Mom loves you,” Xu Manyue said as she looked at her little sister, who barely reached her knees. Her tone was complicated.
When she was younger, her mother always tried to stop their grandfather from taking her away. But now, everything had changed.
Now all her mother’s attention seemed to be focused on her younger daughter. It felt like she no longer mattered.
“She loves you too,” Xiaojiu said, confused. Her eyes were filled with questions.
Why did her mother say one thing and her sister believe another?
She didn’t understand. If her mother loved her sister, why did her sister believe otherwise? If her sister loved their mother, why did her mother think she didn’t?
Xiaojiu felt dizzy. Maybe her little brain just couldn’t figure it out.
“You’re just a child. You don’t understand anything.”
That was the last thing Xu Manyue said before she left.
As always, Xiaojiu stood on the balcony in her mother’s arms and watched the car take her sister away.
You’re just a child… you don’t understand…
Xiaojiu stood there, confused and struggling. Was the world of adults really that complicated?
Her sister and her mother clearly cared about each other. So why couldn’t they say it out loud? Why did they always misunderstand each other?
Even after the accident happened, she never found the right moment to help fix the misunderstanding. Then their mother passed away.
—
“Xiaojiu, what are you thinking about?” Xu Manyue asked with a smile. She saw her sister sitting there, staring down at her hands in a daze.
“Huh?” Xiaojiu blinked and looked up. “What did you say, Sister?”
“I asked what you were thinking about,” Xu Manyue repeated gently.
“Nothing,” Xiaojiu shook her head. She didn’t say more. Talking about the past, especially about their mother, would only make her sister feel worse.
She had wanted to help mend the old misunderstanding between them, but…
Their mother had become a sore spot in her sister’s heart.
At least for now, she had no way to change anything. No chance to fix it.
It was almost funny. She couldn’t even leave the house on her own. Even if she wanted to do something about it, she was powerless.
“You promised me. You said you’d bring your Omega,” Xu Xiaojiu reminded her again, more serious this time.
“I remember,” Xu Manyue replied. She was starting to wonder why Xiaojiu kept repeating herself. Did she really think she would break her word?
“You better not forget. Don’t use the ‘I was too busy with work’ excuse again. I still remember last time,” Xu Xiaojiu said, clearly annoyed.
She wanted to meet her sister’s Omega.
Lin Xinyi did not want to owe the Xu family too much. Even more so, she could not accept doing nothing while living in their home. She could not find peace in accepting everything they gave her without giving anything in return. So every day she got up early to help the housekeepers clean or make breakfast.
When Xu Manyue found out, she made a point to talk to Lin Xinyi.
“Xinyi, you really don’t need to do those things,” Xu Manyue said. She did not understand why Lin Xinyi insisted on helping.
Besides, there were always rumors that Omegas were delicate and couldn’t handle chores. Her own Omega, Yanyan, was already an exception. How could Lin Xinyi be one too?
“Jiejie, I really want to do these things,” Lin Xinyi replied. She did not say directly that she could not accept kindness without doing something in return. The last time she said that by accident, her sister scolded her severely. She would not make the same mistake again.
“You stubborn child,” Xu Manyue said with a helpless smile.
Lin Xinyi looked gentle and fragile. She was even a top-tier Omega. But her determination could rival Shijiu’s. No matter how much Xu Manyue said, she knew Lin Xinyi would never simply listen and agree.
“Just make sure to get enough rest,” Xu Manyue finally said, choosing to take a step back.
Xu Shijiu, who had been silently listening to the conversation, furrowed her brows almost imperceptibly. She thought her sister would manage to talk Lin Xinyi out of it, but things turned out very differently.
Honestly, her sister was useless.
There were already so many housekeepers in the house. Why did Lin Xinyi need to help? Wouldn’t it be better for her to rest?
As she quietly ate her breakfast, Xu Shijiu glanced at Lin Xinyi’s hands. Seeing how red and raw they looked made her feel strangely uncomfortable. She did not understand why she suddenly felt this way.
Xu Manyue caught a glimpse of Shijiu’s expression. When she saw the gloomy look on her face, a realization suddenly hit her. She shook her head and quietly covered her mouth with a small laugh.
She had been worried that Shijiu and Xinyi would not get along, that Shijiu would not accept Xinyi. But clearly, she had been overthinking.
Looking at Shijiu now, there was no sign that she disliked or rejected Xinyi at all.
“How about this,” Xu Manyue suggested gently. “You can help during the break, but once school starts, please don’t do these chores anymore. Is that okay?”
Once school began, managing both studies and housework would be too much.
Both of them were just three years away from entering the Alpha sensitivity phase and Omega heat period.
If they really got along well, and Xinyi insisted that she was Shijiu’s fiancée, maybe things would naturally fall into place.
“Alright,” Lin Xinyi agreed with a nod. The condition was good for her too. Middle school would be more challenging, and she would need time to study.
She needed time to absorb knowledge quickly and grow as fast as possible. She needed to become independent.
There was no one left in this world for her to rely on. She had no one to expect anything from. She had to become strong.
“Shijiu, when I signed Xinyi up for middle school, I signed you up too,” Xu Manyue said casually, as if it was no big deal.
“What did you just say?” Xu Shijiu’s face instantly darkened. Her grip on her fork and knife tightened.
“Shijiu, you and Xinyi are the same age. It’s perfect for the two of you to start first year together,” Xu Manyue said firmly. This time, she would not back down just because of Shijiu’s reaction.
Xu Shijiu had not gone to school since she was seven years old, after the car accident in second grade.
Part of it was because of her injuries and the need to recover. But also because her legs had lost movement due to nerve damage. With the scar on her forehead, she became even more unwilling to face the outside world.
“Shijiu, if you stay at home like this, you’ll lose touch with the world. But now you have Xinyi, and I’ll send bodyguards too. You won’t have to worry about moving around. But if you keep hiding at home, what will happen to you in the future?” Xu Manyue asked patiently.
Accidents can happen at any time, to anyone.
That one accident had taken their mother’s life. No one could predict when the next one might come or who it might affect.
If one day, something happened to her too…
If Xu Manyue were suddenly gone, and Shijiu knew nothing and was afraid of the world outside, what would happen to her then?
That was why Xu Manyue understood how important it was to cherish the present and the people around her. She could not wait until everything was gone to feel regret.
She had come to realize how fragile life truly was, how accidents could happen at any moment. Even though guilt and remorse toward Shijiu and their mother still lingered in her heart, after struggling with those feelings, she learned to treasure the people still by her side and the happiness she had now.
“I’m not going,” Xu Shijiu said in a calm but firm voice. She left behind that one sentence as she controlled her wheelchair and rolled away.
“Shijiu!” Xu Manyue called after her.
She reached out, trying to grab the handle of the wheelchair to stop her from leaving. But before she could, Lin Xinyi gently held her hand and stopped her.
Xu Manyue looked at Lin Xinyi, her eyes full of confusion, not understanding why she was being stopped.
Lin Xinyi kept her gaze on Xu Shijiu until she was completely out of sight and out of earshot. Only then did she turn back to Xu Manyue and speak softly.
“Jiejie, I think you need to give Shijiu some time to process everything.”
Xu Manyue remained silent.
“Jiejie, the way you told her was too sudden. She didn’t have a chance to calm down or think it through,” Lin Xinyi said gently, trying to offer comfort.
Based on what her sister had told her before, Xu Shijiu was the kind of alpha who rarely stepped outside. Suddenly telling her she would be going to school, without any warning, was too overwhelming. Her health, her physical condition, and the scar on her forehead that she had never shown anyone—these were not small things.
It was easy to see that this would not be something she could accept right away.
“You’re right. I understand. Thank you, Xinyi,” Xu Manyue replied with a light smile. But the sorrow in her eyes remained.
Getting that child to agree to go to school was not going to be easy.
She had not expected it to be simple, but maybe she had been too impatient because of the pressure she felt. Thankfully, Xinyi reminded her in time. If she had kept forcing the matter, things would have only gotten worse.
By dinnertime, it was not just that Shijiu broke her earlier promise to eat together. She would not even allow Xu Manyue to bring the meal into her room. Her silent refusal came in the form of a locked door.
Xu Manyue felt helpless. Still, she had many spare keys for Shijiu’s room hidden throughout the house. As she turned to look for them, she suddenly heard Shijiu’s voice from inside.
“Don’t bother looking for the spare keys. I already took all of them.”
Xu Manyue froze in shock, her eyes widening. Her first instinct was to believe that was impossible.
She knew Shijiu was good at finding things. The last time she had hidden just one spare key, Shijiu managed to find it. After that, she changed the lock and made five more copies, adding to the original one. That meant there were six spare keys in total.
She had hidden them in different places around the house and even made a list to avoid forgetting. At the moment, she could only remember where one or two of them were.
And now Shijiu was saying she had found all of them?
No, that could not be true.
“Don’t think it’s impossible,” Shijiu said calmly from behind the door. “There were six in total. One under the doormat at the front door, one behind the television, one buried in the soil of the succulent plant, one inside the tissue box in the bathroom, one stuck behind the sound system, and the last one under your pillow.”
Shijiu had already guessed what her sister would be thinking. Before Xu Manyue could even say the words “that’s impossible,” she had already listed every single hiding place, removing all doubt.
Although it was a little embarrassing that after so many years in a wheelchair she still sometimes fell, she was undeniably skilled at finding things. Especially when it came to things her sister tried to hide from her.
She owed that skill to the games they used to play when they were little. Whenever her sister came home to visit, she would play with her and hide little treasures for her to find.
Her sister still hid things in the same old places, just like when they were kids.
