You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 7
Xu Manyue still found it hard to believe. There had been six keys. Six. Even she couldn’t remember all the hiding spots. How could Shijiu, with no hints or clues, possibly have found them all?
But when she opened her memo and looked at the exact locations, each one matching what Shijiu had described, she fell completely silent.
She had really underestimated Shijiu.
“You should have locked one inside your safe,” Xu Shijiu said calmly, as if casually offering advice.
Xu Manyue gave a dry laugh. She would never believe Shijiu so easily. The truth was, Shijiu knew the password to the safe. And as for the hidden keys, if Shijiu truly went looking, she would probably find them no matter where they were placed. There was no such thing as a safe hiding place in this house anymore.
“Sister, the two of you…” Lin Xinyi looked at Xu Manyue with a strange expression, her gaze filled with disbelief and a feeling that was hard to explain.
She had always thought that although Xu Manyue appeared gentle, she must be a clever and capable alpha. The Xu family’s entertainment company was famous in the industry, and founding a company like that had to take brains and leadership.
But now, seeing how easily Xu Shijiu could find everything that her sister tried to hide, that image of wisdom and strength began to fall apart in Lin Xinyi’s mind.
“Xinyi, don’t listen to Shijiu’s nonsense,” Xu Manyue said with an awkward smile.
Usually, only the housekeepers were around. Xu Manyue had long grown used to Shijiu giving her a hard time, and so had the staff. But this time was different.
It was rare to have someone like Xinyi around, someone who seemed to genuinely admire her. Shijiu ruining that impression like this felt deeply frustrating.
Could she not let her have even a little dignity?
Lin Xinyi gave a quiet nod and lowered her head. Seeing her sister’s embarrassed look, she tried her best to hide the smile pulling at the corners of her mouth.
Now everything was clear. In this household, the one in charge was not Xu Manyue. It was Xu Shijiu.
Even someone as smart and business-savvy as Xu Manyue could only be spun in circles by Shijiu.
Xu Manyue saw the subtle change in Lin Xinyi’s expression and felt a wave of despair. She covered her face in frustration.
So much for saving face. It was already gone.
With Shijiu refusing to come out, Xu Manyue had no options left. She no longer had any keys, and it was impossible to bring in a locksmith or have the bodyguards force the door open.
Shijiu had thrown tantrums before, but she had never locked her out like this. Now Xu Manyue truly had no idea what to do.
If she used force to open the door, it would only make Shijiu even angrier.
“Jiejie, is there anything I can do to help?” Lin Xinyi asked gently. She could see how troubled her sister looked and genuinely wanted to be helpful.
She just did not know how. Shijiu clearly rejected her. If even Xu Manyue wasn’t allowed in, she certainly would not be welcomed.
“Wait, that’s right. Xinyi!” Xu Manyue’s eyes lit up. She had completely forgotten.
“Shijiu, if I don’t go in, can Xinyi come in instead?” Xu Manyue asked through the door. She knew the chances were slim, but even a small chance was worth trying.
Besides, there was something different about the way Shijiu treated Xinyi.
“Jiejie?” Lin Xinyi looked at her, confused by the sudden idea. Anyone could see that Shijiu disliked her. Why would she agree to let her in?
“No,” came Shijiu’s firm and immediate reply.
“Then open the door and let me in, or I really will have it kicked open,” Xu Manyue warned with finality.
Shijiu’s health was delicate. She could not afford to skip meals. Her nutrition was essential.
There was a long pause.
“Should I do it?” Xu Manyue asked again, sounding both serious and unsure.
“Let Lin Xinyi in,” Shijiu said at last.
She had compromised. She understood what her sister was afraid of. It was always the same fear, the fear that she would fall apart in this broken and useless body.
“Great,” Xu Manyue responded happily, clearly pleased with the outcome.
If Shijiu was willing to let Xinyi in, maybe it meant something had changed. Maybe she had started to accept Xinyi.
Until now, no one else but Xu Manyue had ever been allowed into Shijiu’s room.
Xinyi was the same age as Shijiu. People who were the same age might be able to talk more easily.
“I’m counting on you, Xinyi.” Xu Manyue handed the food tray over with a sincere expression. “If you can, try to talk to her. See if you can help her open up a little.”
Lin Xinyi nodded quietly and reached for the tray. With a soft smile, she said, “I’ll do my best.”
In the short walk toward Xu Shijiu’s room, Lin Xinyi had imagined the space in many different styles. But the moment she stepped inside, what greeted her was darkness.
Heavy black curtains blocked all the light. She had to squint to see the floor beneath her feet and to adjust her eyes to the shadows around her.
The room was decorated in a minimalist style, clean and simple. But every chair and shelf was built low to the ground. From her perspective, they seemed almost child-sized. But for someone sitting in a wheelchair, everything would be perfectly within reach.
Lin Xinyi could not tell whether it was just her imagination or if it was truly the lack of sunlight, completely blocked by the thick black curtains. The room felt cut off from the outside world, and she kept sensing a cold draft passing through.
A chill ran down her spine, leaving her with goosebumps.
“Put it down and leave,” said Xu Shijiu, who was sitting in her wheelchair. As soon as Lin Xinyi entered, she had shut the door and now looked up briefly, pointing toward the table beside the bed.
Lin Xinyi placed the tray down. She glanced at the food and noticed it was even less than what she usually ate. She frowned slightly.
Alphas typically ate more than Omegas. Her father used to worry that she ate too little, always urging her to eat more for her health. But Xu Shijiu, an alpha, was eating less than she did.
Looking at her more closely, Lin Xinyi saw how thin and frail she really was. The clothes she wore looked oversized, hanging loosely over her small frame, making her seem even more fragile.
“What are you staring at?” Xu Shijiu snapped, her voice laced with impatience. She had been stared at by Omegas before, but this time felt different.
For the first time, she felt her heartbeat skip out of rhythm because of an Omega’s gaze. Her usual calm was shaken, and she didn’t like that feeling.
“Nothing,” Lin Xinyi replied, shaking her head. Her eyes, without her realizing, were already filled with concern and worry. “You need to eat more, Xu Shijiu.”
Only with proper nutrition could she maintain her strength and keep her body from deteriorating further.
Xu Shijiu remained silent, staring at those gentle, worried eyes. She did not speak, but something in her heart felt strangely unsettled.
“Can I talk with you for a bit?” Lin Xinyi asked softly, her voice sweet and warm.
Xu Shijiu had always liked Lin Xinyi’s voice. It felt like a gentle whisper beside her ear, soothing and soft. It made her feel a little restless in a way she couldn’t explain. No one else’s voice had ever affected her like this.
“Alright,” Xu Shijiu replied before she could stop herself.
She had planned to say no. But as soon as she heard Lin Xinyi’s voice, the word just slipped out. By the time she realized what she had done, it was already too late.
Lin Xinyi was pleasantly surprised. For someone like Xu Shijiu, who clearly had high emotional walls, agreeing to talk with someone she barely knew was completely unexpected.
Especially when the topic was something she likely would not want to hear or talk about.
So when she said yes, both of them were caught off guard. Even Xu Shijiu found her own response hard to believe.
“Would you be willing to go to school with me?” Lin Xinyi asked carefully. Her hands were clenched as she tried her best to sound gentle and non-threatening.
Xu Manyue had asked her to help convince Xu Shijiu to go to school, but Lin Xinyi knew how much resistance there was around that subject. She was too afraid to say too much, so she approached the topic from the side, hoping not to trigger a reaction.
Xu Shijiu looked like someone who had been through a lot of pain. Lin Xinyi did not know what she had suffered. She could not even begin to imagine what she had endured. Even her sister, Xu Manyue, could not truly understand Shijiu’s experiences.
So how could she, someone who knew nothing of her past, try to persuade her?
“Did my sister put you up to this?” Xu Shijiu asked coldly with a bitter smile. She knew it. Her sister would never stay out of things like this.
Lin Xinyi fell silent. She did not know whether she should admit it or not.
“Tell her it is not going to happen,” Xu Shijiu said firmly. Then she moved toward the door, clearly about to open it and send her out.
“Wait,” Lin Xinyi called out, quickly grabbing Xu Shijiu’s hand before it could reach the doorknob. Her response was almost instinctive and unusually intense.
“What do you think you are doing?” Xu Shijiu immediately pulled her hand away, breaking the contact as if it burned.
“It is not because of your sister’s request. I really do want to know,” Lin Xinyi said seriously, her gaze meeting Xu Shijiu’s with sincerity. Every word came from the heart.
Maybe at first she spoke up because of her sister’s request. But now, she truly wanted to understand her.
Xu Shijiu wanted to doubt her. But those sincere eyes made the words she was going to say catch in her throat.
“Alphas and Omegas should not get too close. You are standing too near,” Xu Shijiu said, clearing her throat. She did not respond to the earlier comment and instead changed the topic.
“You are not in heat, and I am not in my sensitivity phase. What is there to be afraid of?” Lin Xinyi blinked, her expression puzzled. She didn’t understand why Xu Shijiu suddenly cared about such things.
At first, she had been afraid of Xu Shijiu as an alpha. But now, all she saw was a girl who needed care, someone whose body made others want to protect her.
Xu Shijiu looked into her eyes and felt completely confused. Her mother and sister had always told her that Omegas were naturally wary of alphas. They said that Omegas would never willingly get close.
So, what was happening now?
“And I am your fiancée,” Lin Xinyi added calmly.
“Why?”
Lin Xinyi was caught off guard by the sudden question. She looked confused and blinked, unsure of what Xu Shijiu meant.
“Why can you accept such an unfair, one-sided engagement?” Xu Shijiu asked. She had been holding that question for a long time. She was only eleven years old. She was an alpha, but one with a disabled body and a disfigured face. How could Lin Xinyi calmly accept being engaged to someone like her?
Wasn’t it said that Omegas preferred attractive, strong alphas?
Shouldn’t a top-tier Omega be more demanding and selective when it came to choosing a partner?
Why would Lin Xinyi accept someone like her, someone so broken and useless?
“It was originally out of gratitude,” Lin Xinyi answered without much hesitation.
But her answer sounded a little vague.
“And now?” Xu Shijiu asked again.
What had changed? What could make Lin Xinyi shift her thinking in such a short time?
“Now…” Lin Xinyi teased, keeping her answer just out of reach on purpose.
“Say it,” Xu Shijiu urged with growing impatience.
“If you agree to go to school with me, I’ll tell you,” Lin Xinyi said with a playful smile. There was mischief in her expression, but deep down, she wasn’t completely sure if Xu Shijiu would agree.
As soon as she said that, Xu Shijiu’s expression turned cold.
Lin Xinyi noticed the sudden change but didn’t regret it.
Things couldn’t continue like this. Staying home forever wasn’t the answer.
After hearing the condition, Xu Shijiu lost interest in hearing the answer. But for some reason, when she looked into Lin Xinyi’s eyes and saw the spark of hope in them, she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
The words were already at the edge of her mouth.
Xu Shijiu felt like she had been enchanted.
She was being pulled in by Lin Xinyi’s clear, sincere eyes and the soft scent of her Omega pheromones, a delicate trace of roses.
“Please say yes. Will you?” Lin Xinyi asked again, gently pressing for an answer.
Xu Shijiu blinked as she returned to her senses. Her gaze was complex and difficult to read.
In the end, she didn’t give Lin Xinyi a clear answer. Instead, she opened the door and firmly told her to leave, completely avoiding the topic.
Even though she had been sent out, Lin Xinyi still felt there was hope. Xu Shijiu hadn’t said no. And if she had really wanted to, she could have.
But she didn’t.
That meant Lin Xinyi could still hope for something.
“How did it go?” Xu Manyue rushed over to meet her. She had been watching the time carefully and had expected Lin Xinyi to last no more than one minute inside. But surprisingly, she had stayed in the room for ten whole minutes.
At first, Xu Manyue didn’t expect much to come of it. But seeing how uncharacteristically long her sister allowed Lin Xinyi to stay, she started to believe there might be real progress.
“I asked her if she would go to school with me, but she didn’t give a clear answer,” Lin Xinyi reported truthfully.
“No answer means she’s thinking about it. And if she’s thinking about it, that means there’s a chance,” Xu Manyue said, trying to stay positive.
“Thank you, Xinyi. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t know how to communicate with her, or how to convince her to agree,” Xu Manyue added sincerely. This time, she was truly grateful.
“You don’t have to thank me,” Lin Xinyi replied with a smile, shaking her head. “She also said she will eat properly.”
Even though Xu Shijiu had been upset that her sister signed her up for school without asking, and was clearly angry, she knew her sister cared about her. That was why she asked Lin Xinyi to pass on the message.
And that simple request confirmed one thing for Lin Xinyi. Xu Shijiu was cold on the outside but warm inside.
Maybe she acted distant because she had been hurt too deeply.
Maybe she was afraid of handing over her heart, of getting hurt again.
Lin Xinyi didn’t know exactly what Xu Shijiu had been through. But she had a strong feeling.
She could sense that Xu Shijiu wasn’t just physically wounded. She was hurting inside too.
If Lin Xinyi knew that Shijiu had lost her mother in the same accident that took her legs, if she knew that Shijiu had witnessed her mother’s death with her own eyes, then she would understand even more.
“Shijiu might agree. I really think we owe this progress to you,” Xu Manyue said gently. She knew her sister’s temperament well. Even though she was stubborn and awkward, if she didn’t directly refuse, there was a good chance she would eventually say yes.
“You’re too kind,” Lin Xinyi said with a small smile. She was just glad she could help.
If she could be helpful, it meant she was still needed. And being needed meant she wouldn’t be thrown away.
Before she came to the Xu family, there had been another family who took her in.
That was before she ended up in the orphanage. But in the end, that family still gave her up and sent her away.
They had said things like:
“We’ll never send you away.”
“This will always be your home.”
“Tell us anything. We’re your parents now.”
“You don’t need to give us anything in return. Just grow up happy.”
All those words. All those promises. Every one of them turned out to be lies.
Because in the end, she was still abandoned. She was sent to an orphanage.
She learned a hard truth from that.
No one without a real connection would give love freely or without expecting something in return.
When Mr. Xu came to the orphanage and proposed the adoption, Lin Xinyi actually felt relieved.
This person had something he wanted. He made it clear from the start. It wasn’t about fake promises or selfless love. It was a fair trade. That made Lin Xinyi feels secure.
Even when she learned that the alpha she was being matched with was the same age as her, had lost the use of her legs, and had scars on her face, Lin Xinyi never hesitated.
