You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 8
Xu Manyue had thought that it would be difficult to adjust Yanyan’s schedule. She assumed that it would be a while before they could meet Xiaojiu. But to her surprise, things turned out completely differently.
The moment she told Yanyan that Xiaojiu wanted to see her, Yanyan didn’t hesitate at all. She picked up the phone and called her agent to ask about clearing some time in her schedule.
As expected, her agent scolded her harshly.
“Yanyan, your upcoming work is very important. Why don’t you wait until things calm down before meeting?” Xu Manyue tried to stop Liu Lingyan from continuing to negotiate a break in her schedule.
As Lingyan’s boss, Xu Manyue was fully aware of her work commitments. That was why, when Xiaojiu asked to meet, she felt it was unlikely to happen soon. Lingyan’s schedule was packed well into the second half of the year.
What Xu Manyue did not expect was that the always career-focused Liu Lingyan would actually consider postponing her work just to make time.
In the past, whenever Xu Manyue had asked her to stay and keep her company, Lingyan would firmly and righteously refuse to cancel even a single task.
But now, just because Xiaojiu wanted to see her, Yanyan was ready to put everything aside without the slightest hesitation.
Why was there such a difference?
Xu Manyue refused to admit that she was feeling jealous.
“I can’t delay this. Xiaojiu wants to see me,” Liu Lingyan said with uncharacteristic excitement. Her normally calm expression had completely vanished.
“But your work…” Xu Manyue frowned.
“My work is not as important as this,” Liu Lingyan said seriously as she continued texting her agent, still trying to carve out time.
Xu Manyue sighed deeply, clearly feeling how much Lingyan cared. But inside, she grew even more frustrated.
She reached from behind and wrapped her arms around Lingyan’s waist, pressing lightly against the suppressant patch on her gland. Lingyan’s body trembled slightly.
She finally stopped typing and turned to look at Xu Manyue, who was still being mischievous. She pouted and said softly, “What are you doing?”
Couldn’t she see that she was trying to handle something important?
“You’re so enthusiastic just because Xiaojiu wants to see you. But when I asked you to stay, I never saw you this eager,” Xu Manyue said with a trace of bitterness. She had tried several times to hold those words back, but in the end, she could not stop herself.
“Are you… jealous?” Liu Lingyan asked with a laugh. There was a teasing glint in her eyes.
Xu Manyue toyed with a strand of Lingyan’s long hair and leaned in close, blowing softly into her sensitive ear. Her voice was low and seductive.
“If I am jealous, does that make you happy?”
Lingyan couldn’t help but let out a soft sound. Her pheromones almost broke through the suppressant patch.
She pushed Xu Manyue away, her face flushed red as she covered her ears. She glared at her and said, “I still have a shoot to attend later.”
“I know,” Xu Manyue replied, clearly enjoying the sight of her Omega looking flustered and shy.
“Then why are you still teasing me?” Liu Lingyan grabbed the hand that was still resting on her waist. If she didn’t say anything, this woman would just keep crossing the line.
“But you didn’t stop me,” Xu Manyue said with a playful smile. Still, she backed off and didn’t make any further moves.
She knew that if she pushed any further, her Omega might genuinely get upset.
“You really are something…” Liu Lingyan wanted to scold her, but her refined upbringing left her struggling to find any harsh words. She couldn’t even think of something mean to say, let alone say it out loud.
Xu Manyue had intended to behave, but suddenly felt wronged. She straightened up and said seriously, “You’re the one who made me jealous. Shouldn’t you be the one to comfort me?”
Liu Lingyan looked at her, feeling both helpless and amused.
Back when they first met, she had thought Xu Manyue was a cold and intimidating Alpha. Thinking about that first impression now and comparing it to the woman in front of her, she truly wondered if it was even the same person.
“If anything, I should be the one feeling jealous,” Lingyan said with a soft smile.
“What do you mean?” Xu Manyue asked, her curiosity piqued.
“Every time something happens to your sister, you rush home immediately. There were several times when you had the driver take me back alone. So tell me, shouldn’t I be the one feeling jealous?” Liu Lingyan pretended to be upset, though her eyes sparkled with warmth.
Back when they had just started dating, she had felt sad and even angry about being neglected for Xiaojiu’s sake. But once she learned about Xiaojiu’s condition and the burdens Xu Manyue carried, she had never brought it up again.
She understood too well what it felt like to lose a loved one.
So she never blamed Xu Manyue for prioritizing Xiaojiu.
“I know. You never held it against me,” Xu Manyue whispered as she gently pulled her Omega into her arms.
Lingyan nodded quietly.
With her head resting against Xu Manyue’s chest, she didn’t see the sorrow clouding her eyes. A quiet, aching sadness had crept in.
Every time Xu Manyue felt happiness, a wave of pain would follow.
Because deep down, she knew this happiness wasn’t something she deserved.
Her mother had lost her life because of her. Xiaojiu had ended up like this because of her. She had brought misfortune to the two people she loved most. Yet here she was, basking in happiness. How could she be allowed to feel this way?
Still, she couldn’t bring herself to let go.
She was terrified that if she didn’t hold onto this moment, if she didn’t embrace this fleeting happiness, it would slip away forever.
No one could predict the future. No one knew when the next tragedy might strike.
She didn’t want to lose this joy. But the more she felt it, the more it hurt.
The guilt and self-blame had long since taken root in her heart. And happiness had become the very thing that fed it. The happier she felt, the more that guilt grew. It was like a towering tree, growing stronger and larger, until it became so overwhelming that she could barely breathe.
Later, under Liu Lingyan’s persistent pleading, her agent finally gave in. Though it was only half a day, that was enough.
When Xu Manyue brought Liu Lingyan home, her heart was a mess of emotions.
She felt joy. She felt nervous. She felt anxious.
But above all, she felt like a heavy weight was pressing down on her chest, making it difficult to breathe.
“Xu Manyue, what’s wrong?” Liu Lingyan had been feeling nervous herself, but she still noticed that something was off.
While the traffic light was still red, Xu Manyue turned to her. Her voice trembled and her smile looked forced.
“I… I’m nervous…”
“What are you nervous about? Shouldn’t I be the one who’s nervous?” Liu Lingyan said, half laughing, half exasperated.
“Xiaojiu has a bit of a temper. If she says anything rude or comes off harsh, I hope you can be understanding,” Xu Manyue said with a soft smile. She handed over an Omega suppressant patch. “This one smells like roses. Xiaojiu likes this scent, so wear this one.”
“Oh, alright.” Liu Lingyan accepted the patch and changed it out. Then she smiled and said, “If Xiaojiu knew you were saying things like this about her, she definitely wouldn’t be happy.”
“And how do you know that?” Xu Manyue shook her head, laughing.
“Children care a lot about their pride. You just don’t get it,” Liu Lingyan replied with a knowing smile.
“So you’re calling me old now?” Xu Manyue gave a slight huff.
“No, no, not at all,” Liu Lingyan quickly waved her hands and shook her head. She knew Xu Manyue was sensitive about her age.
In fact, Xu Manyue was only twenty years old. So was Liu Lingyan. But compared to Xiaojiu, who was just eleven, they both definitely seemed a little…
Well, older.
“The light’s green. No talking now,” Xu Manyue said seriously.
“Okay,” Liu Lingyan answered and stayed quiet. She knew that when Xu Manyue was driving, she would not speak and didn’t allow others in the car to talk either.
The reason was safety. It was true that it wasn’t safe to talk while driving, but Liu Lingyan also suspected it had something to do with Xu Manyue’s past.
She understood that feeling.
Ever since her mother and younger brother were killed in a car accident, Liu Lingyan had never dared to sit in the driver’s seat again. She was even afraid to learn how to drive.
The two of them stayed silent. The car became quiet and calm.
Liu Lingyan glanced at Xu Manyue, her eyes tracing the side of her face. She wasn’t sure if Manyue was feeling better now. After her teasing and distractions earlier, maybe her mood had improved a little.
At the same time, Xu Shijiu was also feeling nervous after hearing that Liu Lingyan would soon be arriving at their house.
In an extremely rare moment, she stood in front of a mirror, staring at her reflection. Her face looked tired, and she was still in pajamas. Her brows furrowed tightly. How could she greet someone while dressed like this?
This would be far too embarrassing.
No, she had to change.
Her sister had just suddenly told her that her Omega would be coming over. She didn’t even have time to prepare.
She picked up the remote control and opened her wardrobe.
Then she froze, staring at all the clothes hanging neatly inside.
She had no idea how to match an outfit. All of the clothes had been bought by her sister. At home, she usually just wore pajamas. And now, out of the blue, she had to see someone. Her sister, who usually helped her put together outfits, was not around.
What was she supposed to do?
With no other choice and her sister gone, she could only rely on herself.
Xu Shijiu made up her mind and grabbed a shirt at random. Then she began holding up different pants to see which might match.
Minute by minute, time passed.
Clothes and pants were soon scattered all over the floor, but she still couldn’t pick out a single combination that felt right. In truth, she didn’t even know what kind of match would look good.
It was all her sister’s fault.
Angrily, she tossed the last shirt and pair of pants to the floor and stared helplessly at the now-empty closet. She scratched her fingers anxiously and muttered to herself.
She had told her sister so many times to buy matching sets of clothes. That way she wouldn’t have to go through this kind of struggle. But her sister refused, saying it would help her learn how to coordinate her own outfits.
Learn coordination? That was a joke.
Now look at the mess. Was she really going to meet her sister’s Omega in pajamas?
“No way. That’s way too embarrassing.” Xu Shijiu shook her head repeatedly.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Her heart jumped into her throat. Was that her sister’s Omega already?
“Xu Shijiu, I just wanted to ask what kind of tea we should prepare.”
A soft voice came through the door. Only then did Xu Shijiu relax a little. It was Lin Xinyi.
Suddenly, an idea struck her like lightning.
Wasn’t it common knowledge that Omegas were great at coordinating outfits? And wasn’t there one right outside her door?
Lin Xinyi had only come to ask a simple question, but to her surprise, the door opened slightly.
There was no sound from inside, so she called out curiously, “Xu Shijiu?”
Since she needed help, Xu Shijiu subconsciously softened her voice.
“Can you come in and help me pick out an outfit?”
“Pick out an outfit?” Lin Xinyi looked confused for a moment, but quickly understood and nodded.
“Of course. I’d be happy to.”
It was the first time she had ever heard Xu Shijiu speak to her so gently. Normally, her voice was always cold and stiff. But Lin Xinyi knew Xu Shijiu did it on purpose, always keeping her distance.
“Come on in then,” Xu Shijiu said, clearly relieved that Lin Xinyi agreed. She carefully backed her wheelchair away from the door, trying to make room.
“You’ll have to push the door harder. It’s stuck a bit.”
“Push harder? What did you do in there?” Lin Xinyi asked curiously. She pressed her hand to the door, trying to open it gently at first.
It didn’t move.
She pushed harder. This time, the door finally opened.
Then she saw the room, fully lit up and a total disaster.
“Did a burglar break in or something?” Lin Xinyi asked honestly and without filter. She really couldn’t understand how a room that was supposed to be neat and tidy could end up looking like this.
“Of course not!” Xu Shijiu protested, her face turning slightly red.
What burglar? Wasn’t that just another way of saying she had turned her room into a complete disaster?
“I’ll help you coordinate an outfit,” Lin Xinyi said, dropping the topic. She began picking up the clothes and pants scattered across the floor and putting them back into the wardrobe. While tidying, she asked, “Xu Shijiu, what kind of outfit are you looking for?”
“Something with presence,” Xu Shijiu replied without hesitation.
Ideally, she wanted something that would intimidate her sister’s Omega just a little.
She didn’t say that part out loud. She figured if she did, this Omega in front of her would probably laugh at her.
“Something with presence…” Lin Xinyi repeated with a smile, a bit amused.
Wasn’t her sister’s Omega the same age as her sister? Both were twenty years old.
Even though that person was an Omega, Xu Shijiu was still just an eleven-year-old alpha. To put it plainly, she was still a child who hadn’t grown up yet. Though Lin Xinyi knew she wasn’t really in a position to say that herself.
What presence could she possibly project?
With a body like hers, no matter what she wore, she would likely come across as slender and delicate—more likely to inspire others to want to take care of her rather than be intimidated.
“Yes. I’m counting on you,” Xu Shijiu said with great seriousness. After a pause, she added, “This is the first time I’ve asked you for something. Don’t let me down.”
That sentence, at least, carried the tone of a proud alpha trying to sound commanding.
“…Alright,” Lin Xinyi glanced at Xu Shijiu’s stern little face, then quickly turned away to look back at the clothes. She didn’t want Xu Shijiu to see the smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
The more time she spent with Xu Shijiu, the more she realized how interesting she was.
But alphas were known for being prideful, so she had to be careful not to laugh out loud.
“How about this white shirt with these black slacks?” Lin Xinyi held them up for Xu Shijiu to see.
She wasn’t sure if it would have the commanding presence Shijiu wanted, but it would definitely look sharp and put-together.
“Hmm, not bad. Let’s go with that,” Xu Shijiu said, taking the clothes without hesitation.
They both fell silent.
“…What is it?” Lin Xinyi asked carefully. She hadn’t said anything wrong, had she? Did she do something to upset her?
Could it be… she had been caught trying not to laugh?
“I’m going to change now,” Xu Shijiu said flatly. She could clearly feel that the tips of her ears were getting warm.
What was this Omega thinking? Didn’t she know that alphas and Omegas shouldn’t be so casual with each other?
Shouldn’t she have already stepped out of the room?
“Oh, I’ll step outside,” Lin Xinyi said, finally realizing. She nodded and quickly left the room, thoughtfully closing the door behind her.
Technically, when an Omega wasn’t in heat and an alpha wasn’t in their sensitivity phase, there was no real difference between them and any other two women.
Even so, it was still better to avoid certain situations. They weren’t exactly that close yet.
Still…
Xu Shijiu’s ears definitely turned red just now.
She was sure she hadn’t imagined it.
For some reason, it was kind of adorable.
