You Are My Omega (GL) - Chapter 9
Lin Xinyi waited quietly outside the room for Xu Shijiu to come out. While helping her choose clothes earlier, she hadn’t given it much thought. But once she was out and standing in the hallway, she suddenly remembered that Xu Shijiu used a wheelchair. Wouldn’t it be difficult for her to change into those dress pants?
Her sister had mentioned many times that, even after four years in a wheelchair, Xu Shijiu still often fell out of it easily. That was why their home had soft carpeting everywhere, even on the stairs, which Xu Shijiu technically never used. Their mother insisted on it as a precaution.
Changing pants must be really hard for Xu Shijiu with her current physical condition. What if she lost her balance and fell? Her sister had said she usually helped with things like this. That must mean Shijiu struggled to do it on her own. There was a high chance she might fall.
Lin Xinyi grew more anxious by the second. She had been the one who chose the pants. There had been skirts in the wardrobe too, but she hadn’t thought things through. And Xu Shijiu hadn’t reminded her either. If she fell because of this…
She was supposed to help, not make things harder.
Pacing nervously in front of the door, Lin Xinyi realized she hadn’t heard the sound of a lock. That meant…
She could still go in.
Her eyes brightened at the thought, but her expression quickly turned conflicted.
Xu Shijiu had just started treating her a little better. If she barged in now, that fragile sense of trust they had started building might crumble again.
Suddenly, she heard a soft thud from inside.
It was a faint, muffled sound, one that would have gone unnoticed in a noisier environment. But Lin Xinyi had been listening closely. Her ears picked it up right away.
Her eyes widened.
She must have fallen.
Without thinking, Lin Xinyi turned the knob and rushed into the room.
What she saw made her heart race.
Xu Shijiu was wearing a white shirt. Her legs were bare. She was lying on the floor, and her wheelchair had tipped over beside her.
“Xu Shijiu! Are you alright?” Lin Xinyi hurried over and spoke in a worried tone.
“Lin Xinyi?!” Xu Shijiu’s eyes widened in shock. She tried to lift herself up, scrambling to hide her exposed legs with the black dress pants beside her. Her face turned bright red. “What are you doing here?”
This was a disaster. She had just been seen. Completely. By an Omega, no less. She was an Alpha. How could an Omega just charge in like this?
Lin Xinyi seemed completely unfazed. She explained calmly, “I heard a noise and thought you fell. I was worried about you.”
She didn’t understand why Xu Shijiu was reacting this way. And just as she had thought, Shijiu really had fallen.
Xu Shijiu sat up with effort and leaned against the side of the bed. She pulled the pants over her legs and glared at Lin Xinyi, her voice rising in embarrassment and anger.
“I’m an Alpha. You’re an Omega.”
“I know that,” Lin Xinyi replied matter-of-factly. She walked over, lifted the wheelchair, and placed it right next to Xu Shijiu, close enough for her to reach easily.
“You’re a girl and I’m a girl. We’re not in heat and you’re not in your sensitivity phase. Right now, we’re basically just two ordinary women. So what exactly are you so embarrassed about?” she asked, genuinely puzzled.
Wasn’t it usually the Omega who felt shy in situations like this?
“You…” Xu Shijiu opened her mouth but couldn’t find a proper comeback. What Lin Xinyi said was technically correct. Still, that didn’t change how awkward she felt.
She just couldn’t explain it. Her whole body felt uncomfortable.
“Do you want me to help you up?” Lin Xinyi offered. Then she added thoughtfully, “Your sister should be arriving any minute now.”
Xu Shijiu froze.
The words she had been about to say got stuck in her throat. She stared at Lin Xinyi, who looked completely innocent and unaware of how much her actions had shaken her. Taking a deep breath, she finally said, “Alright.”
This was only because her sister was about to come. And her sister’s Omega was also about to arrive. She had no choice.
She repeated that to herself over and over, trying to convince herself not to overthink the situation.
“Do you want me to help you put your pants on too?” Lin Xinyi asked gently. It was obvious that Xu Shijiu wouldn’t be able to manage that on her own.
Xu Shijiu stared at Lin Xinyi’s calm and steady expression and suddenly felt a strange exhaustion. She gave up resisting and nodded.
“Okay.”
If even the Omega didn’t care, what was she, an Alpha, getting worked up for?
If she acted more sensitive than an Omega, then what did that make her?
Lin Xinyi crouched down, gently holding onto Xu Shijiu’s ankle. It was her first time helping someone dress, and she wasn’t sure how much strength to use. She looked up and asked, “Is this too much pressure? Does it hurt?”
Xu Shijiu gave her a sarcastic smile and was just about to ask if Lin Xinyi was trying to humiliate her on purpose.
Just as Xu Shijiu was about to speak, Lin Xinyi suddenly reached out and gently held her wrist. Her expression was focused and sincere.
“About this much pressure. Does it hurt?”
Xu Shijiu stared at Lin Xinyi’s clear and honest eyes and froze on the spot.
“It doesn’t hurt,” she replied, dazed.
“Then I’ll use this level of pressure,” Lin Xinyi said, relieved, as she continued helping with the task at hand.
Xu Shijiu couldn’t quite understand Lin Xinyi’s behavior. Her sister must have told her that she had no feeling in her legs. How could she possibly feel pain? Her sister never asked questions like this when helping her change. She certainly never held her wrist just to check the pressure or let her feel it.
But Lin Xinyi was different.
Why could she say something like that? Why did she treat her this way?
Why did she feel so different from everyone else who had come and gone in her life?
Lin Xinyi stayed calm as she helped Xu Shijiu put on the pants, but inside, she still felt nervous and slightly embarrassed. After all, the person in front of her was an alpha. Even though she had spoken so matter-of-factly, there was no way she could really feel nothing.
She was just doing a good job of hiding it.
What finally eased her tension and embarrassment was something unexpected.
Xu Shijiu’s underwear had a cartoon bear print.
Lin Xinyi quickly lowered her head so Xu Shijiu wouldn’t see the smile spreading across her face. For someone who always seemed cold and serious, Xu Shijiu was surprisingly adorable.
Once everything was properly arranged, neither of them dared to look directly at the other.
By the time Xu Manyue returned home with the Omega, both Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were still in the room upstairs.
Xu Manyue asked the Omega to sit in the living room, then went upstairs to get Xu Shijiu.
Just as she raised her hand to knock, the door opened from the inside.
She saw Lin Xinyi pushing Xu Shijiu out in the wheelchair. Xu Shijiu had changed into an outfit that was tasteful and elegant.
“Hmm? Xiaojiu? Xiaoyi?” Xu Manyue blinked, confused by the scene.
What was going on? Why was Lin Xinyi inside Xu Shijiu’s room?
“You’re back, Sister,” Lin Xinyi said with a natural and polite smile.
“Hmph,” Xu Shijiu responded with a glare. Her sister should have told her earlier that the Omega was coming. Now she had lost all dignity in front of Lin Xinyi.
“Xiaoyi, why were you in Xiaojiu’s room? And Xiaojiu, who helped you get dressed?” Xu Manyue asked in disbelief.
If Lin Xinyi was inside, then wasn’t the answer obvious?
Xu Manyue silently scolded herself for asking such a pointless question. Of course she understood what had happened. She just found it so unbelievable.
Letting an Omega into her room to help choose an outfit already seemed like the most Xu Shijiu would ever allow. But to actually let Lin Xinyi help her change? That was something Xu Manyue would never have thought possible, not even if the sky were falling.
Apparently, the sky really had fallen.
“I helped her,” Lin Xinyi admitted calmly.
“Oh…” Xu Manyue looked at her, slightly stunned. No, wait, what was there to hide? It was just changing clothes.
“Enough. The guest has been waiting long enough. We shouldn’t keep her,” Xu Shijiu said quickly, interrupting before the conversation could continue. She could already feel the heat creeping back into her face after hearing Lin Xinyi speak so openly.
“Wow…” Xu Manyue stared in surprise. Xu Shijiu looked… flustered? That was new.
Lin Xinyi picked up on the tension and helped change the topic. “Sister, we really shouldn’t keep the guest waiting.”
Guest.
That word sounded strange.
Because technically, the Omega sitting downstairs had already been marked by her sister. Eventually, she would be part of the family.
Xu Shijiu was deliberately calling her a guest. Was that her way of making things difficult for her sister and the Omega?
Lin Xinyi wasn’t sure what Xu Shijiu was feeling at the moment. But she herself was actually looking forward to meeting this Omega.
Her sister had mentioned that the Omega worked in the entertainment industry. The way she spoke about her was filled with pride. That meant she must be someone impressive.
Lin Xinyi had always wanted to learn more about the entertainment world. If she could talk to this Omega, it would be a great opportunity.
She trusted the Xu sisters. They were good people. But they were both Alphas, and Lin Xinyi never felt like she could really share her innermost thoughts with them. She could never ask the kind of questions she wanted to.
“Um, Lin Xinyi?”
“Yes?”
Xu Shijiu’s voice pulled Lin Xinyi out of her thoughts. She looked over, a little confused.
“What is it?”
Why was she acting so shy all of a sudden? She looked more like an Omega than Lin Xinyi did.
“About earlier… thank you.”
