- You Are Really No Match For Me [Fighting]
- Chapter 26 - Team Battle Begins — The Preliminary Match Turns Out to Be a Colosseum!
Su Wanying pulled a notebook out of her bag, switched it on, and the screen immediately played a first-person perspective video — the feed had already returned to the mastermind’s location.
She connected the data cable to the port at the back of her head and sank her consciousness into the owner of the footage.
The perspective came from one of the black-clad men who had captured her. He too was using a cyberbrain, but Su Wanying had already cracked his firewall during close combat. The man’s body shifted slightly to the side —
Sure enough, beneath the dim light appeared Chu Yi’s detestable face — that spoiled second-generation rich brat who relied on his mother, a school director, to throw his weight around.
“You useless trash! Can’t even catch one woman, what the hell am I feeding you for?” Chu Yi kicked over the coffee table, glass shards scattering across the floor.
Clearly, he hadn’t swallowed the humiliation of apologizing last time. At school, he’d been looking for opportunities to retaliate, but Su Wanying had been cautious. Who could’ve guessed that weeks later he’d finally find his chance off campus?
Since he had gone through such lengths to capture her, naturally, Su Wanying planned to return the favor with interest.
She narrowed her eyes and planted a virus into the black-clad man’s neural implant.
An endlessly replicating worm virus — enjoy your full set of bruises and broken bones!
The next second, several black-clad men moved like marionettes with their strings pulled, turning in unison and lunging toward Chu Yi. Through their voice modulators, Su Wanying’s cold voice rang out as Chu Yi’s panicked expression filled the screen:
“Chu Yi, this trick is pathetic. Next time I catch you, it won’t just be a beating.”
Pulling out the data cable, Su Wanying hummed a tune and flopped back onto the bed, her two mechanical arms folded behind her head. But the metal was too hard, so she muttered and shoved a soft pillow under them.
“Xiaoyu-jie, are you done showering?”
“Not yet, you go to sleep first.”
“Hmph! If you want me to sleep, I won’t sleep!” Su Wanying forced herself to stay awake, glaring at the bedroom door, rolling around for ages before finally dozing off face down.
When Jin Yu came out of the shower, she found Su Wanying curled into a ball, fast asleep. Jin Yu quietly tucked her in and closed the door.
The Next Morning
“Wanying, time to get up!”
“Just five more minutes…”
Five minutes later, she shot upright, rubbing her eyes. Daylight was streaming in — she’d been waiting for Jin Yu’s gossip last night but had conked out first.
A round-headed robot glided to her bedside, its display flashing breakfast options.
“Good morning, guest. I am the housekeeping robot Lulu. What would you like for breakfast? Today’s options are bacon sandwich or savory pancake, with coffee or milk.”
Last night, since they came back late, Lulu had already gone into sleep mode to recharge. Now it was fully powered and brimming with energy.
“Savory pancake and milk, thanks.”
“Command received~ Preparing now!”
Lulu turned smoothly, its mechanical arms moving efficiently in the kitchen. Su Wanying stared, wide-eyed:
“Xiaoyu-jie! Your robot can make pancakes? That’s amazing!”
Jin Yu bit into her sandwich and smirked proudly. “Impressive, right? Its learning ability is incredible — watch something twice and it’s got it memorized.”
Su Wanying circled Lulu like she’d discovered a new world.
“Guest, please don’t interfere with my workflow,” Lulu protested in a flat electronic tone.
But that only fueled her curiosity. She flipped the robot upside down, scrutinizing it from polished head casing to nimble feet. Her brows furrowed tighter and tighter.
“Wait a second… this robot is weird. There’s no manufacturer’s mark, no serial number…”
Jin Yu recalled that all their training equipment carried both manufacturer and serial info. Why didn’t this one? She set down her breakfast and walked over.
“This apartment was lent to me by Boss Mo. The robot was probably arranged by him too.”
“What’s the deal with this Boss Mo?” Su Wanying rapped on Lulu’s head, a crisp metallic ring echoing. “Robots at this level aren’t even available on the open market. Could it be government tech?”
Just then, her eyes caught a still-unopened package in the corner. It was a prosthetic limb that Boss Su had mailed, waiting for Su Xi to pick up. Su Wanying pointed at the label.
“See? Genuine products all have traceability info.” She popped off her own left arm with a click, exposing the intricate bionic nerve interface inside. “Even my custom model has a serial number.”
Jin Yu’s expression darkened. “Eat first. After breakfast, we’ll shut it down.”
Oblivious, Lulu plated the pancake, even adding syrup and vinegar on the side.
“Enjoy your meal~” It had just finished speaking when Jin Yu pressed the emergency sleep button.
“Entering sleep mode… ready to… serve… any… time…” the mechanical voice trailed off.
“Xiaoyu-jie,” Su Wanying said with her mouth full of pancake, eyes sparkling, “you’re way cooler than I thought!”
Jin Yu raised a brow. “Cool how?”
Su Wanying counted on her fingers: “Amazing combat skills, awesome robot, and a bounty-hunter boyfriend. Don’t tell me you’re part of some secret organization? Like a movie-style special ops team? Take me in as your sidekick, please! I’m super capable! We could fight evil and protect the innocent together!” She blinked eagerly.
Jin Yu calmly wiped her mouth with a napkin. “Nice use of idioms, but you’re overthinking it. I’m just an ordinary person.”
“But your martial arts—”
“I trained under an old master. He’s way stronger. The robot came from Boss Mo, nothing to do with me. And Jin Mu is not my boyfriend. Lastly, cut back on the movies.”
Deflated like a punctured balloon, Su Wanying slumped in her chair. “Oh…”
“Finish eating, then call your parents,” Jin Yu said, clearing the dishes. “Have them pick you up.”
“Nooo!”
“Be good.”
“Then can I still come after school?”
Jin Yu sighed. “Fine.”
“Yay! Xiaoyu-jie is the best!” she cheered.
“But about those black-clad men, I’ll need to talk to your parents.”
“No, no, no!” Su Wanying waved her hands frantically. “It was just the same guys from before, still mad I pranked them…”
Jin Yu frowned. “Kids these days are so… independent. You don’t tell your parents about things this serious?”
“Jie,” Su Wanying smirked, “Morris Academy isn’t an ordinary school. When adults intervene, they usually just make things worse.”
Jin Yu’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the time. “We’d better get you to school. You can explain on the way.”
“No need, I have to change into my uniform first.” Su Wanying bounded off, snatched her bag, grabbed her drying clothes, and called out, “Driver will be here in five minutes!” At the door, she spun back, eyes shining. “After school, I’ll come to the arena. You have to wait for me!”
As soon as Su Wanying left, Jin Yu headed straight for Boss Mo’s office.
“Boss, is that robot in the apartment yours?”
“What robot? You mean the cleaning bot? Yeah, I think there’s a cleaning bot.”
Jin Yu scrutinized his every expression. He clearly knew nothing about it.
“Never mind, carry on,” she said with a polite smile.
But the moment she turned away, her face darkened. If Boss Mo hadn’t arranged it, who had placed that robot by her side? Who was trying to monitor her — and why?
Was it for the USB drives?
She never let those out of her sight.
But now that the hidden hand had been exposed, if their target was the USBs, they would strike again soon.
And if it was something else… what could it be?
Without realizing it, she had reached the training hall.
“Morning,” Jin Mu greeted.
Jin Yu quickly pulled herself together, smiling. “Morning, coach.”
“Same routine today.”
“No problem.”
Liang Yu and Wang Da attacked from left and right, today’s focus on agility and evasive maneuvers. Soon, Liang Yu’s stamina flagged and his punches slowed. Jin Mu called him off the ring.
Wang Da pressed on. Compared to his old “one punch for one punch” brawling, he was now fighting with real technique, even stringing together proper combos.
From below, Liang Yu grew increasingly frustrated.
“When did this guy get so good? Did he find some secret manual?”
After three hours of training, Liang Yu confronted him. “Wang Da, tell me the truth. You’ve been secretly practicing some hidden technique, right?”
Wiping sweat with a towel, Wang Da felt pleased — he’d just learned a feint move from Jin Yu today. Relaxed, he didn’t bother hiding it. “I come every morning at six to practice. Want to join?”
Liang Yu balked instantly. “Six a.m.? No way I’m waking up that early!”
Wang Da smiled gently. “Just set an alarm.”
“Easy for you to say. You’re always up early anyway. But seriously, no secret training? In just one month, how could you improve this much?”
Indeed, nearly a month had passed since the open tournament began. Training alongside Jin Yu every day, Wang Da had improved by leaps and bounds.
And in every public match, whenever Jin Yu stepped into the ring, the stands overflowed. Her reputation in Jiangbei grew with every fight.
The anticipated “infamy for hype” route never materialized, because in just one month she had practically flattened the entire Jiangbei fighter scene.
With overwhelming strength on her side, even the early detractors who mocked her for clicks were forced to concede. No matter how stubborn the trolls, they had to admit: Jin Yu truly deserved the title of Jiangbei’s Strongest Fighter.
Naturally, with that title came challengers.
Jin Mu clapped his hands for attention. “Today, a team from Yun City will be visiting. They’re seeded contestants in this year’s Global Cybernetic Combat Championship prelims. They’re here for sparring and exchange. Everyone, stay sharp.”
He turned to Jin Yu. “These people aren’t that strong individually, but they excel in team battles. I want you to spar with them.”
Jin Yu blinked in surprise. “The competition has team battles?”
“Yes,” Jin Mu nodded. “That’s in the preliminaries.”
The Global Cybernetic Combat Championship is divided into three stages: preliminaries, regional qualifiers, and the championship proper. Most competitors are eliminated in the prelims.
The Colosseum is the most brutal and direct elimination format of the CTC preliminaries, testing survival skills, cybernetic adaptability, and combat ingenuity under extreme conditions.
1. Basic Rules
-
-
Entry format: Contestants are divided into 1,000 Colosseums based on total registration numbers. Allocation is randomized through entry gates. Participants may choose to fight solo or form ad hoc teams.
-
Note: You could end up in a lightly populated Colosseum, or one packed with fighters. You might face weaker opponents… or be thrown against a reigning champion right out the gate — pure luck of the draw!
-
-
Victory conditions:
-
-
Survival victory: Be the last fighter or team standing.
-
-
-
Point victory: If the timer runs out, results are scored based on knockouts, cybernetic efficiency, etc.
-
-
-
2. Colosseum Features
-
-
Environmental Mechanics
-
-
Dynamic threats: Random fire traps, electric currents, or mechanical beasts.
-
-
-
Terrain shifts: Ground collapses, warped gravity fields, randomized maps and weather.
-
-
-
Note: These test reaction speed, observational skill, and explosive adaptability. Terrain changes also gauge how well fighters use their cybernetics in varied environments.
3. Combat Flow
-
-
Entry phase: Fighters enter from random gates. Initial gear is limited to basic cybernetics and exoskeletons.
-
-
-
Free-for-all phase: First 3 minutes are “open hunting,” encouraging quick eliminations. Then, every 5 minutes the safe zone shrinks, forcing close-quarters combat. (Aka “running the poison.”)
-
-
-
Final showdown: When only 3 fighters/teams remain, the arena enters “Deathmatch Mode.” All weapons are disabled, fighters are confined together, and only one victor emerges.
-
Every Colosseum is livestreamed to the public, with audiences able to vote and sponsor items for their favorite fighters.
Only those who survive this stage qualify for the regional qualifiers and ultimately the championship — the true battleground where fighters can finally unleash their specialized cybernetic systems.
