You Are Really No Match For Me [Fighting] - Chapter 33
“Hey handsome, want to make a friend?”
A syrupy female voice drifted from his side. Wang Jiasong lifted his eyes and saw a woman in a tight black dress leaning against the bar. Her long wavy black hair cascaded over heavily made-up features, her lips curved in a smile, eyes fixed on him with blatant flirtation.
“Blind or what? My girlfriend’s right here.” Wang Jiasong lazily tipped his chin toward Su Xi, who was standing behind the bar counter.
The woman glanced over. Su Xi was calmly polishing a glass, dressed in a sleeveless black top and floor-length black pants. Her hair was pulled into a half bun, her lips painted red. She lifted her eyes to meet the woman’s gaze without flinching.
The height difference forced the woman to look up. She twitched her mouth resentfully. “Sorry, didn’t see.” She turned away, her stiletto heels striking hard against the floor, still fuming at having wasted her time hitting on the wrong man.
Wang Jiasong swirled his drink, ice cubes clinking. His gaze burned toward Su Xi. “So? Thought it over? How about a date tonight? I’ll pick you up at nine sharp.”
Su Xi dodged his heated look. “Got it. Now leave already. Guests will be coming soon.”
“Remember to dress pretty.” He smiled roguishly, winking before leaving. “See you tonight, darling.”
Su Xi glared at him. He blew her a flying kiss.
What the hell, does he think we’re filming a movie?
When the bar was empty, Su Xi grabbed her little notebook and slipped into Jin Yu’s lounge, chewing on her pen cap.
“Jin Yu, I’ve got a question.”
“What is it?” Jin Yu was watching old recordings of the audition matches, absently wrapping bandages around her hands.
Su Xi flipped open the notebook and pointed at a page. “Last time you mentioned a trial period, right? I thought, if there’s a trial, there should be standards…”
Jin Yu glanced over and suddenly burst out laughing. “Gin 20ml? Cointreau 30ml? Lemon syrup 10ml? Grenadine 10ml? Flaming Passion? Is this a cocktail recipe or your love life?”
“Not that one!” Su Xi’s ears turned red. She hurriedly flipped to another page. “This one!”
Written neatly on the paper:
[Trial Period Love Contract]
-
-
No telling either set of parents without permission
-
-
-
No smoking, drinking is allowed
-
-
-
No visiting illegal establishments
-
-
-
No lying or deception of any kind
-
-
-
No coercion by force
-
-
-
No “brothers” or “little sisters” of the opposite s3x, and no flirty green-tea types
-
-
-
Problems must be solved—no throwing things in anger, no shouting
-
“All rules, huh…” Jin Yu raised a brow, snatching the pen to add:
8. Must hold hands when crossing the street, and at the end of every date, give each other a hug and say: ‘I’m really happy I spent today with you.’
Su Xi frowned. “Do we really have to write that?”
“You asked my opinion, you have to take it.” Jin Yu pinched her cheek with a grin. “Sis, you’re dating, not drafting legislation.”
“Bang!” The training room door burst open. Xiao Bai darted in. “What’s so fascinating?” Before Su Xi could react, he snatched the notebook.
“All these ‘no’s? Tsk.” He shook his head in mock dismay, scribbling quickly:
9. Both parties must be honest and always happy together. After three months, contract is void, relationship is upgraded to official couple status, and made public to everyone—especially Mr. Bai Hanqing, who must be thanked for his outstanding contribution to your love story.
“Give it back!” Su Xi lunged, but Jin Mu suddenly appeared and blocked her.
The room fell silent. Jin Mu plucked the notebook from Xiao Bai, skimmed it, and handed it back. “Add one more.” His voice was low.
10. Respect each other’s choices and help the other achieve what she wants to do.
Xiao Bai squinted at him, circling around suspiciously. “By ‘help,’ you mean financial support? Spill it, which unlucky girl did you set your sights on this time? Planning to scam her money?”
Jin Mu pushed up his glasses. “Xiao Bai, that wager was voluntary. Need me to repeat the circumstances in front of everyone?”
The veiled threat was obvious. They’d been together long enough that Xiao Bai almost forgot what kind of ruthless man Jin Mu really was. He broke out in a cold sweat, waving frantically. “Just kidding, just kidding… If something happens, share it first, okay?”
“By the way, Jin Gang asked me to pass on a message.” Jin Mu switched topics. “He says he owes you a proper apology.”
Xiao Bai blinked, then suddenly burst into laughter. “Water under the bridge! But… if he really feels guilty, when he’s back he can treat me to hotpot skewers!”
Su Xi rolled her eyes. “Skewers, skewers… that’s all you ever want. Aren’t you sick of them?”
Xiao Bai puffed out his chest. “Ah, you don’t get it! Skewers are an art—vegetables crisp and fresh, meat juicy and tender, mushrooms soaking up broth… paired with the richness of beef-fat soup, the kick of spicy oil, the zing of sour-spicy base—ahh, just thinking about it makes my mouth water!”
“You sure know your food,” Su Xi said drily. “But the audition is starting soon. Are you ready?”
“Of course! Who am I? Only the best agent in the biz!” Xiao Bai boasted, thumb stabbing his chest.
He went on, “I’ve got promo copy, trending hashtags, press releases—all ready to roll. Once our Xiao Yu dazzles on stage, with my magic touch—bam! Overnight sensation! Sponsors will be lining up!”
Jin Yu rolled her eyes. “Quit bragging. Come help me find last year’s audition footage. This one’s incomplete.”
“Yes ma’am, future superstar!” he grinned and trotted over.
Su Xi: “Then I’ll head out first. You two keep busy.”
Jin Yu: “Alright, stay safe.”
Su Xi’s cheeks flushed as she nodded hard.
Xiao Bai scratched his head. “Safe? Safe from what?”
Jin Yu: “Nothing. Keep working.”
She glanced at her phone. “Find it and message me. I’ll be training.”
Xiao Bai: “Got it. Go on.”
Once Jin Yu left, it took Xiao Bai less than five minutes to find the video. While downloading, he casually grabbed a yogurt and some biscuits from the snack cart.
—Snacks Jin Yu had bought for Su Wanying to munch while doing homework at the gym. He’d stolen them before, often earning the kid’s glares. But today was different.
“C’mon, I saved her life yesterday. Snagging a few snacks isn’t too much.” He popped open a bag of beef jerky, guilt-free.
The download bar crawled slowly. “Damn site… no membership, you get ads.” He flicked through recommended videos. “‘Tom and Jerry’? What a dumb title…”
An hour later—
“Bai! Han! Qing!” Su Wanying stood at the doorway, hands on her hips like a bristling lion cub. She glared at the half-empty snack basket and overflowing trash bin, fury blazing in her eyes.
Xiao Bai jumped at the shout, mid-cartoon, crumbs on his lips. “Uh… I only ate a few…”
Following her gaze, he noticed the empty basket and trash piled high. He muttered, When did I eat that much?
Still, he wasn’t one to lose his footing. He puffed up with indignation. “So what if I ate your snacks? If not for me, you wouldn’t even be alive!”
“That’s different!” Su Wanying stomped, her two mechanical hands detaching with a clack and hovering midair. “You ate my favorite—pickled plum flavor! Spit it back out or I’m not Su anymore!”
The robotic hands lunged—one yanking his hair, the other poking his stomach.
“Ahh! What the hell is this?!” Xiao Bai yelped, stumbling as he shielded his head.
Su Wanying crossed her one remaining arm smugly. “New model mechanical hands. More than enough to deal with you!”
Just then, the tablet chimed.
“Truce, truce!” Xiao Bai begged. “The video’s done downloading! Let me send it to Xiao Yu first.”
Su Wanying rolled her eyes. “Then hurry up!”
He scrambled to send the file, then—unable to resist—clicked on Tom and Jerry.
Unbelievable. Even with her mech hands still tugging his hair, he was laughing at the cartoon.
“What are you even watching?” Su Wanying leaned closer. “After stealing my snacks, you better compensate me!”
“Fine, fine. I’ll take you to the supermarket…” he muttered absently, eyes glued to the screen. Tom was being toyed with by Jerry, and Xiao Bai snorted with laughter.
Grinding her teeth, Su Wanying gave his hair another vicious yank.
“Ow ow ow! Ancestor, I’m sorry! I’ll repay double—no, triple—five times!”
“Add one more condition.”
“Anything! Just let me go!”
“You said it—lend me your precious game console.”
“What?! That thing’s expensive! Don’t break—” His scalp tingled. “Fine, fine! Just be careful, don’t you dare damage it!”
“Hand it over!” She snatched it eagerly.
Xiao Bai sighed, handing it over like his firstborn. “Please, please be careful. It costs a fortune.”
The mech hands reattached. Su Wanying pulled on the VR goggles, gripping the controllers with glee.
Xiao Bai hovered anxiously beside her, terrified she’d wreck his treasure.
Half an hour later, Jin Yu and Jin Mu returned from training.
Seeing the two for once sitting quietly side by side, Jin Yu clicked her tongue. “Rare sight—no bickering?”
Jin Mu eyed the VR set in Su Wanying’s hands. “Xiao Bai, you actually let someone touch your baby?”
Xiao Bai looked pitiful. “Didn’t want to! But this brat—ugh, don’t ask.” He sighed like a beaten man.
“Liar!” Su Wanying ripped off the headset. “You stole my snacks first. You agreed yourself to lend it!”
Xiao Bai froze. He thought the headphones would block her hearing.
“I didn’t—” He tried to deny it, but she tackled him. The two rolled on the sofa in another scuffle.
“Okay, okay, I’m wrong! Watch the console—careful!” Xiao Bai flailed while protecting his game system.
Jin Mu and Jin Yu ignored the chaos, settling at the coffee table.
“So, after watching the past auditions—any thoughts?”
“One thing.”
“Go on.”
“Trust no one.”
“Correct.”
Jin Mu’s long fingers swiped the tablet. “Do you know where the name ‘Beast Arena’ comes from?”
“Because inside, people turn into beasts?”
“Exactly. Many contestants enter thinking it’s fair competition. But in the end, everyone becomes a beast—ready to bite anyone in reach.
“At first, for safety, they form alliances. But those are only temporary interest groups.
“Later, every move you make creates enemies. Betrayal, trickery, every method imaginable appears.
“To win, people lose their humanity. Starvation, sleep deprivation, constant danger—they stop being human, and become beasts.”
“This audition was one of the most classic ever—it mixed cooperation, betrayal, duels, one-versus-many, group battles. It tested not just combat skill, but mental strength and an understanding of human nature. The eventual winner later became a guest invited by the organizers themselves.”
“If you can learn strategy from his match, it’ll be invaluable in the Beast Arena. If anything confuses you during playback, ask me—I’ll explain.”
“Hello everyone, I’m streamer Big Head. Longtime viewers know I’m a diehard fan of Wang Hai. How did I become one? Through the legendary match that made him a household name—the breakout of Poseidon Wang Hai, from the 23rd Global Cyborg Combat Tournament, Zone 03, Venue 018…!”
