You Are Really No Match For Me [Fighting] - Chapter 38
On the giant livestream screen, the real-time footage of the five preliminary arenas began to play.
At arenas No. 3 and No. 5, a few contestants near the edge barely took a few steps before raising ropes to trip others. Meanwhile, those near the tranquilizer gun zone at the center—all ruthless fighters with high combat power—had already tangled together in a chaotic brawl.
【Damn, it’s this intense right from the start?】
【Ahhh, that bald dude’s so badass—one punch and the other guy’s nose is bleeding!】
In arenas No. 13, No. 16, and No. 18, the contestants closest to the starting line who also had the fastest speed snatched the tranquilizer guns without suspense. The rest, unable to dodge, grabbed whoever was nearby to use as meat shields, hoping to block the flying darts.
Just then, the camera cut to a close-up of arena No. 16. A man with a sinister expression was closing in on Jin Yu, clearly intending to use this seemingly delicate girl as his scapegoat, to pull her in front of him as cover against tranquilizer darts.
Veteran commentator Wang Tao remarked, “A clever choice. When you’re at a disadvantage, quickly finding cover is a very effective tactic.”
The livestream chat instantly exploded:
【Sis, run! Don’t let him catch you!】
【It’s over, she’s gonna get sacrificed right at the start, poor beauty.】
【Hey, how do you even know she’s beautiful?】
【Look at that figure! Guaranteed she’s a knockout.】
【Hello, wifey.】
【Show us her face!】
【Seconding that, show her face!】
As if on cue, the camera zoomed in on Jin Yu’s face. The first thing that appeared on screen were her commanding eyes—so sharp they gave viewers the uncanny sense of being stared down by a predator.
The shot slid lower. Her nose, sharp as if carved in stone, cast deep shadows under the lighting. Her lips, pale pink and tightly pressed into a straight line, radiated resolve.
【Wow, we finally saw her face! Gorgeous!】
【Sis is so cool, step on me please!】
【That gaze is fierce! So hot! I wanna call her wifey~】
Just as the man’s hand reached out for Jin Yu, she suddenly flipped forward several meters, followed by a string of clean, fluid somersaults that carried her straight into the forest—leaving the sinister man standing dumbfounded.
Wang Tao: “That girl’s qinggong isn’t bad at all. But who knows how her actual combat ability holds up?”
His fans eagerly echoed him:
【It’s just a few flips, nothing special.】
【People who show off at the start always end up cannon fodder…】
Wang Tao’s expression softened at the supportive comments.
But Tong Xinying grew more and more annoyed.
Seeing those elegant flips had thrilled her like fireworks bursting in her chest. Yet Wang Tao’s words—though seemingly praising—always carried an undertone suggesting Jin Yu wasn’t strong enough.
Not wanting to assume the worst, she asked tactfully, “Mr. Wang Tao, since her qinggong is so good, doesn’t that suggest her combat skills are also strong?”
The chat immediately split into factions:
【Isn’t Wang Tao being a little too dismissive?】
【No, he’s right—women are weaker than men by default. Qinggong doesn’t mean she can actually fight…】
【But Tongtong has a point! Why is Wang Tao always right, but she’s always wrong?】
Wang Tao brushed it off with, “Perhaps.”
Xin Chuxiao chuckled, easing the tension: “Looks like our guests have differing opinions, but it’s too early to draw conclusions. Let’s keep watching.”
By now, post-production had overlaid each contestant’s number and name in blue text above their heads.
The camera followed Jin Yu leaping between tree trunks, then cut to another shot: two contestants tailing her had lost track, distracted by a dirt mound—only to be ambushed by Gao Chenguang, who himself was sneak-attacked by Liang Yu.
Wang Tao exclaimed, “A classic mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind!”
Tong Xinying, noticing the camera wasn’t on them, whispered to the quiet Ma Younian, “You need to speak more, or you won’t get any screen time.”
Finally letting go of the sofa he’d been picking at, Ma Younian softly said, “Thanks. Just now…” As the camera turned to him, he shifted uncomfortably, then quickly continued: “In the early rounds, forming teams is a common strategy. It lets players drain their opponents while replenishing their own supplies.”
【The big pig’s finally talking!】
【Been waiting for this! Don’t be shy, you’re the best.】
【Don’t be nervous, piggy!】
As Jin Yu and Liang Yu advanced, a birdcall rang out.
Ma Younian began, “That birdcall is actually…”
Wang Tao cut him off: “That imitation is about eighty percent convincing. Looks like Jin Yu and Liang Yu have run into a very tricky opponent.”
Ma Younian gave a shy smile. Wang Tao went on, “Sending out a mechanical hand to probe the area is smart—caution is key when enemy details are unknown.”
But Jin Yu and Liang Yu simply stuffed the mechanical hand into their packs. Wang Tao had to correct himself: “Looks like they saw through the trick and avoided exposing themselves.”
When the enemy started negotiating, Wang Tao nodded approvingly: “A strong team, resourceful under pressure. Let’s see if their ‘lure the snake from its hole’ strategy works.”
Suddenly—thwip!—a dart flew toward them. They dodged, but two mechanical arms shot from the bushes.
Wang Tao: “A feint! Nicely executed.”
Tong Xinying interjected, “Looks like Jin Yu noticed them already.” Before she’d finished, Jin Yu indeed swung the mechanical arm like a weapon, smashed into her foes, and finished with a flying kick that sent one man crashing into Liang Yu.
The chat went wild: 【So badass!】
Tong Xinying gasped in admiration: “Her legwork is incredible… one kick and he was flying!”
Wang Tao grudgingly agreed: “Indeed. Didn’t expect a young girl to fight this well.”
When Zhang Dapao invited Jin Yu to join his team, calling her a “beauty,” Tong Xinying burst out laughing: “Haha, not surprising at all. She’s just too strong—but will she agree?”
Wang Tao explained, “When facing strong enemies, turning them into allies is often the best option. Fighting head-on only hurts both sides.”
But the camera showed Jin Yu abandoning the fight to chase Liang Yu, a flying kick knocking away his signal gun. Strangely, even after being shot, Peng Yu wasn’t eliminated.
【What’s going on? When did the gun get swapped?】
Both Ma Younian and Wang Tao said at once, “It must’ve been switched during the collision.”
Wang Tao added, “Wearing them at the waist makes it easy to be lifted, especially by a ‘teammate’…”
Tong Xinying concluded, “Looks like even teammates can’t be fully trusted. These prelims are riddled with traps.”
Xin Chuxiao smiled: “I didn’t even notice the switch myself—this contest really is unpredictable.”
Ma Younian shyly suggested, “Maybe they feared their teammate would swap guns if injured, so they struck first. They just didn’t expect the other guy hadn’t swapped.”
Later, Zhang Dapao tried forcing Jin Yu to accept him, but Liang Yu drew a reeking gun from his shoe, pulling exaggerated faces that had the studio roaring with laughter. The chat flooded with 【Hahahaha】.
Soon Jin Yu’s squad crossed paths with Zhao Mingyue’s, only for chaos to erupt—mechanical monkeys attacked, and Zhao’s team fell into internal strife.
The studio commentators shook their heads at the infighting.
Wang Tao: “You must choose teammates wisely, or it’ll backfire. Looks like this captain has poor judgment.”
Tong Xinying: “It’s one thing to be wary of teammates, but even the captain isn’t trusted? How did this team even form?”
Xin Chuxiao: “So being a captain comes with risks too. It’d be better to team up with people you already know.”
Meanwhile, Jin Yu’s group swooped in to clean up, while Zhao Mingyue swiped supplies and ran—again leaving the chat in stitches.
Even Ma Younian chuckled: “Guess Zhao Mingyue knew her team wasn’t reliable, so she left herself an escape plan.”
As alarms sounded, the rain grew heavier. Jin Yu’s group fled until they found a cave.
At the entrance, Jin Yu stopped: “You two go in and start a fire. I’ll guard the entrance—someone will likely come to shelter.”
Liang Yu nodded. “Be careful. Call if anyone shows up.”
Zhang Dapao grinned. “Beauty, don’t forget to cry for help. I’ll save you anytime.”
Leaning against the stone wall, Jin Yu wrung the water from her combat uniform. It had taken them twenty minutes just to get here, drenched to the bone.
Inside, the fire soon crackled. Liang Yu stripped off his outer suit, shivering as he hung it near the flames. “Damn, the organizers are cruel. Raining on us like this—my whole body’s soaked, I’m freezing!”
Zhang Dapao grimaced as mud splattered his mouth. “Watch it! You just sprayed mud into my mouth!”
Liang Yu shot back cheekily, “So what? Maybe mud will fix your stinky mouth. Calling my sis ‘beauty’ all the time—you think flattery makes you a man? That’s just sleazy! My sis would never like a shallow guy like you.”
The chat blew up:
【Didn’t expect the kid’s values to be this solid! Been wanting to say this—she’s the captain, but he keeps calling her ‘beauty,’ making it sound like all she has is her looks.】
【Not wrong—‘beauty’ is a compliment, but the way he keeps saying it makes it seem like her looks are all that matter. Way too calculated.】
In the studio, Tong Xinying couldn’t help chiming in: “Exactly! When I draw comics, my company always markets me as a ‘beautiful manga artist.’ Why not ‘genius manga artist’? My work is good too!”
Xin Chuxiao nodded: “That reminds me—when I first started, people called me a ‘vase host,’ like I was useless aside from my looks.”
【Our poor host! He carried so many hit shows.】
【Marketing accounts just love slapping labels—it’s disgusting.】
Wang Tao was left out, while Ma Younian nervously raised his hand: “When I first started making videos, I used to show my face. But everyone said I looked girly, calling me a sissy. Later I stopped showing my face and exaggerated my tone to sound more masculine. Only then did the hate die down…”
【Poor piggy, never knew he had such a past…】
His fans rallied in unison: 【Reject labels!】
Meanwhile, Jin Yu tucked an empty bottle into a crack in the rocks to collect rainwater.
Before long, the sound of splashing footsteps came from afar.
Almost the same moment Liang Yu ran to the cave entrance, two men appeared, dripping wet. They begged, “Please, let us come in out of the rain. We promise we won’t cause trouble.”
Jin Yu stood tall. “You can come in—for one piece of bread each.”
“You’re extorting us!”
She smirked. “Then stay out in the rain.”
“There’s only two of you, and two of us. If it comes to a fight, you won’t have the advantage.”
Jin Yu raised a brow. “Is that a threat?”
Just then Zhang Dapao lazily got up. “Who told you we only have two?”
The men reluctantly handed over two packs of biscuits, and Jin Yu allowed them inside.
Zhang Dapao offered, “I’ll stand guard. My clothes are almost dry anyway. You go warm up.”
Jin Yu nodded. “Thanks.”
As she and Liang Yu followed the two strangers deeper inside, she whispered, “Don’t sleep tonight. They’ll strike once we’re out.”
Liang Yu widened his eyes. “Then why let them in?”
Jin Yu winked mischievously. “For fun. Don’t tell Zhang Dapao.”
Liang Yu zipped his lips. “Not a word.”
Later that night, Liang Yu took over the watch. The two men lay snoring loudly opposite the fire.
Zhang Dapao muttered, “How can they sleep at a time like this?”
Jin Yu replied softly, “Probably exhausted. You rest too.”
He shook his head. “I’ve got sharp ears. Can’t sleep with that noise. I’ll take the next watch—you don’t need to.”
She raised a brow. “Since when so considerate?”
He puffed his chest. “It’s a man’s duty to protect the ladies.”
She chuckled. “Fine, thanks.”
At 1:30 a.m., when Jin Yu and Liang Yu’s breathing slowed as if asleep, the two “sleeping” men opened their eyes, glowing in the dark.
【Knew it! They’re up to no good!】
【How did Jin Yu predict this?】
【She just guessed!】
Ma Younian analyzed, “She probably noticed the sleeve crossbow on one man’s arm earlier, so she was prepared.”
The men crept closer. Suddenly one fired at Jin Yu—only for her to roll aside, the dart embedding in the stone.
They lunged. Jin Yu shouted, “Dapao!”
No answer.
Liang Yu spat, “That bastard’s faking sleep!”
Jin Yu had no time to reply. One man struck for her temple—she seized his wrist, slammed her head forward, and the two grappled viciously, fists pounding flesh.
After a brutal scuffle, Jin Yu wiped bl00d from her mouth and finally pinned her opponent, choking him until he blacked out. She seized his signal gun, then snatched another from the second man whom Liang Yu had subdued. Without hesitation, she strode for the cave mouth.
Zhang Dapao rubbed his eyes. “What’s happening? A fight?”
“Mm.” Jin Yu didn’t look back as she kept walking.
His heart racing, Zhang Dapao forced a smile and followed. “Let me help you fire the signal.”
But she turned, smiling strangely—then sprang off the wall and vaulted outside.
Two shots cracked through the night.
“Player 0525, Zhang Xing—eliminated.”
“Player 0110, An Zhuo—eliminated.”
Another shot rang.
“Player 0287, Ning Ke—eliminated.”
Zhang Dapao’s grin froze. “You… when did you figure it out?”
Jin Yu: “From the beginning.”
“You never trusted me?”
“No.”
He forced a laugh. “Was my acting that bad?”
She reclaimed her gun, took his supplies. “You’ve been eliminated. Leave.”
Frozen, he asked, “Where did I slip up?”
While checking her gear, she answered:
“First—back when we fought, your teammate used a sleeve crossbow, but you never did. Yet your arm was equipped with one. That meant it wasn’t your usual weapon. You’d scavenged it from someone else.”
“Second—your eyes never once showed you really wanted to join me. You must’ve had your own true team, which is why you ignored my commands.”
“Third—you kept calling me ‘beauty.’ That fake flattery was meant to lower my guard. Only someone with hidden motives would need to do that.”
“In short—after disarming you, I immediately swapped our signal guns, in case you betrayed me mid-match.”
Zhang Dapao was speechless. When his two defeated allies emerged, he finally laughed bitterly. “Damn it… let’s go. Don’t embarrass ourselves further.”
Tong Xinying, freshly caffeinated, cheered, “Go, Yu-jie! Screw that lame pretty-boy act—Yu-jie is the best!”
The chat, lively again with night owls, flooded with: 【Yu-jie’s amazing!】
But the night was far from calm. After Zhang Dapao’s signal gun went off, countless others flared in the dark. That night, no one would sleep in peace…
