You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Early October, and Yuncheng’s weather was still blazing hot. The sunlight filtered through the dense branches, casting a scorching heat on everyone’s skin.
“Stalking.”
“Threats.”
“Spreading dirty rumors.”
Each word was followed by a punch.
In the alley behind Nanbai University’s library, Su Yu curved her lips into a slight smirk. She grabbed the boy’s collar and turned him around to shield him from the direct sunlight, then landed another punch on his cheek before letting him go.
The boy’s face was bruised and swollen, unrecognizable. His body slid down the wall like a dead fish until he knelt on the ground. His eyes, wide with terror, stared at the girl in front of him. “I’m sorry, I was wrong. Please, don’t hit me anymore.”
Su Yu stood up straight, wearing a tight red crop top that showed off her toned, beautiful abs. Paired with black cargo pants, her long legs and perfect proportions gave her a cool, powerful presence.
She leisurely untied the silk scarf wrapped around her palm, which was stained with a bit of bl00d. She glanced at the boy at her feet, her phoenix-like eyes curving naturally upwards, giving her a graceful and languid look. A faint smile never left her lips. “If I ever hear your name from Jiang Nianyi’s mouth again, the consequences won’t be as easy as they were today.”
Jiang Nianyi, holding a custom-made lace sun umbrella, stood to the side, snapping photos of her friend with her phone. She excitedly tapped away, posting them to their group chat. “So cool! My Ume-hime never disappoints! So pretty!”
Su Yu turned her head to look, catching a glimpse of a pure white skirt at the library’s corner. Her gaze shifted up, meeting a pair of ice-cold yet captivating eyes that seemed capable of stealing one’s soul.
Their eyes met. A gentle breeze suddenly stirred, lifting the hem of the white dress. A fallen leaf landed in a puddle, causing ripples. In that moment, Su Yu was completely lost in those eyes.
“Yu-yu, watch out!”
A cry of alarm rang out. Before Su Yu could react, a gust of wind swept past her ear, and a punch landed on her face, making her head snap to the side. A metallic taste of bl00d spread through her mouth.
“You damn b1tch! You think I couldn’t beat you?! I just don’t hit women! But you’re not a woman!”
Su Yu ignored the boy’s trembling accusations. Her first thought was to look back at the corner. It was now empty. The beautiful woman in the white dress and brown hair was gone. Only a lone leaf was swept up by the wind, drifting aimlessly.
“Ha… My mood is just, terrible. I scared a beautiful woman away, and I was…” Su Yu used her tongue to prod her cheek. She swept her gaze over the boy.
He flinched, instinctively stepping back, only to hit the wall behind him. There was nowhere left to go.
Jiang Nianyi frantically ran over to check Su Yu’s injury. “How are you? Does it hurt? Oh, right, an ambulance. I should call an ambulance right away.”
Su Yu raised her hand to stop her, her voice flat. “Are you calling for your ex-boyfriend? Are you worried about him?”
“No, I’m not!” Jiang Nianyi immediately declared her loyalty. “I told you a long time ago…“
Su Yu didn’t stay to hear her profess her loyalty. She re-wrapped the silk scarf around her hand, walked up to the boy, grabbed his hand, and smiled faintly. “Just now, it was this hand that hit me, right?”
As soon as she finished speaking, there was a crisp snap. The boy’s scream shook the birds in the trees on the hill behind them, making them flutter their wings and fly away from this troublesome place.
The boy lay on the ground, clutching his arm, breathing in ragged gasps. His arm hung limply by his side, unable to move.
Su Yu began to untie her scarf as she walked away. Passing Jiang Nianyi, she left her with a final order: “Leave him some money for his medical bills.” She then quickly walked out of the alley.
Su Yu stood at the corner, scanning her surroundings. She didn’t see the white figure. Her eyes landed on the library’s back door, which was tightly shut. This entrance to the library was rarely used; students hardly ever came this way.
The beautiful woman must have been coming here to enter the library and study.
Right, the woman was holding a book.
Therefore, the beautiful woman must be in the library now.
Feeling even more certain, Su Yu reached out to push the door open.
It was locked.
Jiang Nianyi ran up to her, looking at her friend’s actions with confusion. “What’s wrong?”
“Let’s go. To the library.”
“Huh?” Before Jiang Nianyi could ask any more questions, Su Yu was already walking quickly toward the library’s front entrance. Jiang Nianyi grabbed her backpack straps and chased after her. “Wait, Yu-yu, why are you in such a hurry?”
Inside the library, Su Yu first searched the study hall on the first floor. She didn’t see the figure and didn’t waste a moment, heading straight for the second floor.
Jiang Nianyi stopped, panting, her breath still uneven. The figure in front of her disappeared in an instant.
She put her hands on her waist and raised her arm toward the distant figure but didn’t manage to shout. Resigned, she started walking again.
On the sixth floor, Shi Xueqian ran into the special study room that had been approved for her exclusive use. She controlled her breathing as she closed the door. The book in her hand fell, and a photo slipped out from between the pages. She ignored it, sliding down the door until she was sitting on the floor. Her white skirt fanned out on the wooden tiles like a blooming flower.
The flower was trembling, as if it would wilt the next second.
She hugged her knees tightly, holding her body in a tight ball.
This was the third time.
Every time she saw Su Yu, it was the same feeling.
—Her bl00d surged through her veins, a heart-pounding mix of excitement and thrill!
She never thought Su Yu would have this effect on her.
She tilted her head back against the door, her neck forming a graceful curve. Her hands squeezed her arms tightly, the veins on her hands bulging. She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, savoring the excitement and thrill Su Yu brought, and the restless energy in her every cell.
After a long while, Shi Xueqian tilted her head to the side, picked up the photo from the floor, and murmured, “If you’re looking for me, Su Yu, that makes things so much easier.”
From the first floor to the sixth, Su Yu searched every floor and every book aisle of the library, but she couldn’t find her.
Stopping in front of the last unsearched study room on the sixth floor, Su Yu felt a strange sense of nervousness. She raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Separated by only a door, Shi Xueqian, who was still on the floor, was startled by the sudden sound. She hesitated for a moment, not moving or making a sound.
Knock, knock—
“Hello, is anyone in there?”
A shiver ran through Shi Xueqian’s body. It was Su Yu’s voice…
It was the first time she had heard Su Yu’s voice so close. It was clearer and more pleasant than she had imagined.
If that voice could whisper intimately in her ear… just thinking about it made the excitement that had just cooled down surge again.
“What are you doing standing here?”
Shi Xueqian was pulled back to reality by the voice. She knew the person it belonged to: Su Yu’s friend who was as chatty as a magpie every day. She was pretty, lively, interesting, cute, and sweet.
But she didn’t like this friend.
She hated sweet girls.
Hated them.
“You wandered like a ghost through every corner of the library from the first to the sixth floor. What on earth are you looking for?” Jiang Nianyi leaned against the wall, exhausted. She felt that not only was Su Yu crazy, but she, who had followed her for six floors without a word, was even crazier.
“Didn’t I tell you to find a place to sit if you were tired and I’d come find you later?” Su Yu’s voice was a little helpless. Shi Xueqian unconsciously tightened her fingers.
“I was just curious what you were looking for,” Jiang Nianyi muttered awkwardly, walking closer. “So what are you looking for? Did you find them?”
“I’m looking for someone,” Su Yu replied simply. She knocked on the door again. “Hello, is anyone in here?”
Again, she got no response.
“So who are you looking for? Who is it that’s worth all this trouble for you, my Ume-hime?” This time, Jiang Nianyi’s curiosity was fully piqued. Her eyes were sparkling, and she stared at Su Yu with anticipation.
“I’ll tell you later.”
Jiang Nianyi wisely closed her mouth.
Su Yu raised her hand to the doorknob. On the other side of the door, Shi Xueqian had already stood up. Sunlight streamed in from the window, perfectly illuminating her ankles, while her body was cloaked in the room’s shadows. Her hand was also on the doorknob, her head slightly lowered, making her expression unreadable.
With a click, the door remained locked.
“It’s locked. Looks like there’s no one inside,” Su Yu murmured, letting go of the doorknob. She looked at the rows of bookshelves on the sixth floor and sighed softly. “I should have chased her right away.”
Her gaze drifted to Jiang Nianyi, who shivered under her stare. She hesitantly asked, “What’s wrong?”
Su Yu: “Let’s go.”
As they walked out of the library, Jiang Nianyi couldn’t help but ask, “So who were you looking for?”
Su Yu told her the truth. “I don’t know her.”
Jiang Nianyi’s mouth dropped open. “You don’t know her, but you were searching for her so desperately? Did that scumbag’s punch mess up your brain?”
“Don’t be silly,” Su Yu said, looking at her. Remembering something, a helpless yet fond smile spread across her face. “She’s a beautiful woman I fell in love with at first sight.”
“What?!” Jiang Nianyi spun in circles, mumbling to herself, “It’s over. The Ume-hime who didn’t even care about big, muscular sports students was not only beaten into a ‘war-torn’ mess by a pathetic guy but also had her brain damaged.”
Su Yu gave her a cold look. “Are you assuming I’m deaf?”
Jiang Nianyi tried to console her. “It’s okay, we’re not afraid. Big sister will immediately get you a full-body checkup. We’ll cure whatever ails you!”
“You’re the one who’s crazy.” Su Yu snatched her phone.
“You? Su Yu? Love at first sight?” Jiang Nianyi felt that today was truly magical. She would rather believe the sun would rise in the west tomorrow. “No, didn’t you say that was just a shameless and vulgar way to describe lust at first sight?!”
“A fair maiden, a man’s desire,” Su Yu tilted her head slightly. “So what’s wrong with lust at first sight?”
She felt that beautiful woman was born to be her wife.
Jiang Nianyi felt a chill crawl up from her feet, spreading through her body. “My friend, I’m seeing the beginnings of a love-struck fool in you now.”
Su Yu shrugged. “For her, I’m happy to be one.”
Jiang Nianyi grumbled discontentedly, “And you always warn me not to be a love-struck fool. How can you be so strict with others, but so lenient with yourself?”
Before she could finish, a fair, slender hand pinched her cheek. Like an arrogant rabbit caught by the scruff of its neck, the end of her sentence came out in a squeak.
Su Yu stared at her with a warning look. “Didn’t I tell you? If you ever act like a love-struck fool again, I’ll twist your head off and kick it like a ball.”
Jiang Nianyi cried with a pained expression. “I was wrong, Yu-yu. Don’t touch my head. I’m sure my head will still be useful!”
Su Yu released her with a nod of approval. “You promised, right? I’ll handle your scumbag, and you’ll go through fire and water for me.”
“Huh?” Jiang Nianyi made a face. “You want me to go through fire and water? No way, Yu-yu, I’ll die!”
Su Yu cracked her knuckles. “This head doesn’t seem very useful anyway. Maybe twisting it off and kicking it like a ball is the only way for it to be useful.”
Jiang Nianyi pitifully hugged her head.
Su Yu sighed and got to the point. “Use your connections to help me find her.”
Jiang Nianyi was Nanbai University’s most famous socialite. She had made connections with people from every department during military training. Finding someone was a task perfectly suited for her.
The socialite’s spirits immediately lifted. “Yu-yu, are you serious?”
“Otherwise, do you think I ran around a six-story library just for fun?” Su Yu gave her a look. “Long, naturally fluffy brown hair, no bangs, amber-colored phoenix-like eyes. Her eyes were very bright, and her face was small, very fair, and beautiful.”
“She was wearing a white dress that reached her calves, a small black backpack, and was holding an English textbook. That’s all the information I have right now.”
“I need to know everything about her within 24 hours.”
“That’s not much information. There are many beautiful women at this school who fit your description. The English textbook doesn’t mean she’s from the foreign languages department, since other majors also have to study English. Yu-yu, can you give me two more days?”
Su Yu started walking. “Within 20 hours.”
“Okay, okay,” Jiang Nianyi chased after her. “Just one day. I’ll do my best to gather as much information as I can…”
On the sixth floor of the library, Shi Xueqian stood by the window with her arms crossed, watching the red figure from above. “Su Yu,” she said to herself, “if you’re looking for me, then this will be so much easier.”
