You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
All eyes were on Su Yu. She curved her lips and flatly refused, “It’s not convenient for me. I already have a companion.”
The girl with the bobble hair nodded slightly without hesitation, then said to the two boys, “Then I’ll walk with you. Thank you so much, otherwise I’d definitely be late…”
Their voices faded into the distance. Su Yu was very satisfied with the bobble-haired girl’s astuteness. She turned her head and said, “Senior, shall we go too?”
“Senior?” Su Yu raised a hand and waved it in front of her.
Shi Xueqian came to her senses. “Hmm?”
“Senior, why do you seem so absent-minded? Did you hit yourself somewhere just now? No, we should still go to the infirmary to get it checked out.”
Her back did hurt a little. Last night’s explanation was good, so she only endured one whip from the Xu family’s discipline, and it wasn’t too strong.
“Right, I’m a little dizzy now, I need to go to the infirmary,” Shi Xueqian rubbed her temples. “I won’t go to class with you.”
“Dizzy? No, I’ll ask the teacher for leave now. I’ll go with you to the infirmary.” As she spoke, she took out her phone, ready to call the teacher.
Shi Xueqian reached out and pressed down on her action, saying seriously, “You can’t miss class. I’ll message you if anything happens.”
“Missing one class is fine. Your health is more important, Senior.”
My health is more important? Shi Xueqian froze, the hand holding her down unconsciously slackened.
Su Yu thought she had agreed. But just as she moved, she was held back again.
“Su Yu.” Shi Xueqian called her name and just looked at her.
The slanting sunlight passed through the gaps between the leaves and fell on the two of them. The spots of light interwove silently. Only the cicadas on the trees occasionally made a sound.
After a long while, Su Yu relented. “I get it. If anything happens, you must tell me. Just call me directly.”
Shi Xueqian nodded slightly.
Su Yu reluctantly left.
Shi Xueqian didn’t go to the infirmary. She went straight back to the study room.
She hugged her slightly trembling body, slowly slid to the floor, and whispered to herself, “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
She quickly adjusted her emotions, got up, sat down at her desk, and continued doing practice questions to prepare for the trilingual proficiency exam in December.
In classroom 409 of the School of Arts building.
After explaining the key points of the class’s performance, the teacher handed a stack of materials to the class leader. “There are 20 script excerpts here. Students who receive the same script will form a team and become scene partners.”
“You have ten minutes to prepare. The top three students in this class performance will receive an additional ten points for their final grade.”
The students’ eyes lit up for a moment. Students who received the scripts loudly called out their script names.
“Who got ‘The Overbearing President’s Queen’?!”
“‘Like a Sunset and Sunrise,’ where’s my teammate?”
“…”
After hearing the teacher’s words, Su Yu’s attention was completely on her phone. More than half an hour had passed, and there was still no message from Shi Xueqian. The messages she sent were like a stone sinking into the sea.
The class leader gave her a script. She took it and thanked him but didn’t look at it immediately.
She took the script and walked to a corner, calling Shi Xueqian. The phone rang until it automatically ended without anyone answering.
“Could she have fainted on the way?” Su Yu muttered to herself.
She made another call. If this one didn’t go through, she would immediately ask for leave.
Luckily, this time the call was answered after two rings, and Shi Xueqian’s voice came through, sounding normal. “Hello?”
“Senior, did you go to the infirmary? What did the doctor say?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just got a little startled. I’ll be fine after some rest.”
The stone in Su Yu’s heart finally dropped back into her stomach. “That’s good. You didn’t reply to my messages or answer my calls. I was so worried.”
Just as she finished speaking, a sweet voice came from beside her. “Su Yu, are you done?”
It was the bobble-haired girl who had bumped into her earlier. She resisted the urge to frown and moved the phone away from her mouth. “What’s up?”
The bobble-haired girl smiled and held up her script. “All the other students have formed teams, and it’s just the two of us left. We must have the same script, right?”
—The Sister in the Shadow of Her Younger Sister
Su Yu glanced at the name of her script, then opened her own script to check. They were indeed a team.
Su Yu didn’t show any emotion. “Wait a moment.”
The bobble-haired girl nodded obediently. “Okay, but don’t take too long. We only have ten minutes to prepare.”
Su Yu nodded, picked up the phone, and called out “Senior,” but no one replied. She looked at her phone screen, which showed the call had been disconnected.
Su Yu: ???
Fortunately, the next second, a message came from Shi Xueqian: I’m fine. Focus on your class.
Su Yu: Then Senior, get some good rest. Is there anything you want to eat? I’ll buy it for you after class.
It showed “sent.” Su Yu put away her phone and walked to the bobble-haired girl.
The bobble-haired girl raised a sweet and harmless smile and extended her hand. “Hello, Su Yu. Let me introduce myself. My name is Xu Yan. I was filming for a drama before and just rushed back to class after my scenes were wrapped up today. I’m sorry again for bumping into you today. I’m really sorry.”
From the polite apology after bumping into someone to being tactful enough not to disturb her and Shi Xueqian, Xu Yan’s actions were all gaining Su Yu’s favor.
She reached out and shook her hand. “Hello, Su Yu.”
“Mm, I know you. Actually, I’ve known you for a long time. I’ve met you a few times at your family’s banquets, but you probably don’t remember,” Xu Yan paused slightly. “But that’s not important. Shall we go over our lines first?”
She didn’t try to force a connection, which was another point in her favor.
Realizing what she was thinking, Su Yu mentally slapped herself on the forehead.
Favor, what favor!
The person in front of her had a 99% chance of being a love rival!
She didn’t answer the question directly but asked, “Is this your usual style, Xu Yan?”
Xu Yan looked herself over and nodded. “Yes, what’s wrong with my style? My persona since my debut has been a sweet girl.”
So that’s it. The probability of her being a love rival decreased. She actually had a few more questions she wanted to ask, like whether Xu Yan liked boys or girls, what her ideal type was… She had a feeling that Shi Xueqian had no resistance to this kind of well-mannered, sweet girl.
Asking these questions to someone she was formally meeting for the first time would be too impolite. Su Yu just said, “Nothing’s wrong. This style suits you very well.”
Xu Yan’s eyes curved into a smile. “Really? Thank you for the compliment.”
Su Yu: “Let’s decide on the roles first. Do you want to play the sister or the younger sister?”
Xu Yan: “I just read the script once. I personally think I’m more suited for the role of the younger sister. You take a look. If you also want to play the younger sister, we can play rock-paper-scissors to decide.”
At this point, Su Yu was completely certain that Xu Yan wouldn’t try to curry favor with her. Unlike her previous partners who would start with “You choose first,” constantly trying to please and accommodate her, Xu Yan fully expressed her own thoughts.
This feeling made her very comfortable.
Su Yu shook her head slightly. “No need. If you want to play the younger sister, I’ll play the older sister.”
“Okay.” Xu Yan didn’t refuse.
After they went through their lines, Su Yu nodded in appreciation. “Your lines are great.”
“Thank you for the compliment,” Xu Yan’s eyes curved into a smile. “I’ve been criticized for my lines before, so I’ve been studying specifically. I’ve actually seen the TV shows and movies you’ve acted in, and I was amazed when I watched the movie. Acting opposite you today makes me have to look at you with new eyes.”
Su Yu extended her hand. “It’s a pleasure to work with you.”
Xu Yan shook her hand. “The pleasure is mine.”
Ten minutes quickly passed. The students gathered in a circle, and the teacher called on students to perform.
There were many types of scripts: emotional, comedic, quirky… The good performances made people cry and laugh, while the bad ones made people too embarrassed to open their eyes.
Su Yu and Xu Yan were the last group.
The teacher said, “You can start whenever you’re ready.”
Seeing the two of them come up to the stage empty-handed, the students on the side couldn’t help but whisper to each other.
“They’re not even bringing their scripts? Did they memorize all their lines?”
“Top-level students are top-level for a reason. I’ve seen Xu Yan’s drama, and her acting is really good!”
“…”
Su Yu and Xu Yan nodded to each other and then began their performance.
Xu Yan stepped forward and grabbed Su Yu’s hair, pulling her backward. “I told you, didn’t I? I don’t have a sister like you! Why haven’t you gotten out of our house yet?”
Su Yu looked pained but didn’t resist. She just bent over as much as possible to minimize the pulling and the pain, her voice trembling and choked with sobs. “It… It was Dad who brought me back.”
Xu Yan kicked her calf, and Su Yu instantly fell to the ground.
“Your legs are on you, is someone stopping you from leaving? Do you think you’re someone important in this family?”
Su Yu shook her head. “No, I didn’t…”
…
After their performance ended, the scene was still silent.
It wasn’t until the teacher was the first to react and applaud.
The single applause woke everyone up, and the students followed with applause.
“These two’s skills are top-notch. They’re definitely the first and second best in our major.”
“Xu Yan has been a sweet girl since the beginning. I didn’t expect her to act so well in a ruthless role. Is this the contrast that fans talk about?”
“Her acting is so real! I’m getting goosebumps.”
“…”
Two minutes later, the teacher cleared his throat to get the students’ attention and directly announced the top three students with the best performances.
“First place, Su Yu. Second, Xu Yan. Third, Zhang Liang. These three students performed very well. Class representative, remember to give them extra points.”
The class bell rang at that moment. After the teacher left, Su Yu was the first to run out of the classroom.
Xu Yan looked at her retreating back. Just as she was about to chase after her, she was surrounded by a group of students.
A bunch of annoying insects, they’re so damn annoying.
Xu Yan cursed in her heart, then put on a smile and dealt with the students.
Su Yu took out her phone, only to see that Shi Xueqian had only replied with the two words “No need.”
She put her phone away, went to the infirmary, and then went outside the school to buy a bowl of porridge that Shi Xueqian usually liked. Only then did she rush back to the study room.
Shi Xueqian was momentarily stunned when she saw the person in front of her, who was sweating and panting. “You…”
Su Yu didn’t say anything and went forward to place the back of her hand on Shi Xueqian’s forehead. “No fever or cold sweats, but your body temperature seems a bit low. Senior, are you still dizzy? Is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?”
As their skin touched, Su Yu’s high temperature and warmth were constantly transmitted. Her cold fingertips seemed to feel a bit of warmth.
“I’m fine,” she changed the subject. “What did you buy?”
“Oh, I bought some essential daily medicines,” Su Yu brought over the plastic bag and showed them to Shi Xueqian one by one. “I’ll leave this here, just in case.”
“Right, are you hungry? I bought you some porridge,” she opened the porridge, stirred it with a spoon to cool it down, and pushed it in front of Shi Xueqian. “Senior, eat a little slowly. Warm yourself up, and then rest for a while after you’re done.”
Shi Xueqian stared at the pork rib porridge, which was steaming slowly, and spoke softly, “Su Yu, what do you like about me?”
