You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
“What do you like about me, Su Yu?”
I can’t feel it…
I can’t sense any emotion in Shi Xueqian’s voice when she asks that question. Is she genuinely curious, or is she testing her, trying to figure out if Su Yu is serious about learning German or if she has an ulterior motive?
If she had asked this question at any other time, Su Yu could have given a thousand reasons.
But why now, of all times?
Just before the dictation test?
“Why the sudden question, Xueqian?” Su Yu smiled, not answering directly. “I’ve never really thought about it. I’m with you all the time, and you can see that my focus is on my studies right now!”
Shi Xueqian looked at her through the rising steam, nodding slightly. “That’s good. You should review the vocabulary a bit more. I’ll test you when I’m done eating.”
She pushed the porridge bowl closer and began to eat slowly.
“Okay,” Su Yu replied, her eyes fixed on the person across from her.
She still couldn’t sense Shi Xueqian’s emotions. She couldn’t tell if she was pleased with her answer or not. There was nothing to read.
Su Yu’s emotional perception was strong, but Shi Xueqian’s ability to hide her emotions was even stronger.
Most of the time, she simply couldn’t sense Shi Xueqian’s feelings at all.
It was like a dry well; even if a giant rock were thrown into it, it wouldn’t cause a ripple.
But that was fine.
Even if Shi Xueqian was a dry well, Su Yu was confident that she could fill it with sweet, fresh water.
What she forgot, however, was that her willingness to pour water in also depended on whether the well was willing to accept it.
Apparently, this well wasn’t.
Half of the words Shi Xueqian dictated were the ones she had intentionally taught incorrectly.
If they were wrong, how could Su Yu possibly get them right?
Seeing Shi Xueqian write the last stroke, Su Yu forced a smile. “Professor Shi, are you done correcting?”
Shi Xueqian didn’t answer.
She was done.
But the result was completely unexpected.
Su Yu had gotten all the words she taught incorrectly right, while she got all the correct ones wrong.
The accuracy rate was only 50%.
She looked up, her voice slow. “Did you do this on purpose?”
“Did I do this on purpose, or did you, Senior?” Su Yu looked at the person opposite her, her face filled with sadness. “You probably don’t know how hard I study every night to prove myself.”
“My brain is a bit slow. I forgot what you taught me last night. I wanted to call you, but it was too late, and I was afraid of disturbing you, so I downloaded a translation app. Senior, do you know what my reaction was when that cold machine made a completely different sound from what you taught me?”
“I thought, ‘Oh, this crappy translation app must be wrong.’ The next morning, I went and asked an auntie at the company who knows German, and she told me the translation app was right.”
“But I still believed you couldn’t have done it on purpose. You’re studying three foreign language majors; it’s normal to get a little confused sometimes.”
“But then I tried asking for the words you taught me. One, two… half of them were wrong… Senior, you tell me, was it me who did it on purpose, or you?”
“You asked me this morning if I was trying to bribe you. I was. I was trying to use my secret to make you curious about me. If you didn’t test me on those wrong words, I would know you were still willing to tutor me.”
“But apparently, I was wrong. You’re not interested in my secret, and you don’t want to teach me.”
Su Yu stood up, gathered her things, and put them in her bag. “Honestly, if you were just a little more honest, you wouldn’t have had to spend the last three days with someone you dislike.”
She zipped her bag and looked at the person who had her head slightly bowed the whole time. “Senior, do you have anything you want to say to me?”
Shi Xueqian heard the rustle of Su Yu’s things, the sound of her zipper, and the sound of her about to leave the room…
“I,” she said without looking up, “have nothing.”
Su Yu’s grip on her bag tightened. She asked again, “Senior, do you really have nothing to say to me? If I walk out of here today, I might never come back.”
Shi Xueqian looked up, her face devoid of emotion. “I have nothing to say. Since you know my intention, leaving now is indeed the most dignified and best option.”
The hand on her thigh was tightly gripping her skirt, her knuckles white.
Su Yu stared into her eyes for a moment. “Okay, thank you for the past few days, Senior.”
Click—
The door opened, then closed.
The study room fell into complete silence.
Shi Xueqian glanced at the closed door, waited a moment, then walked to the window. Just in time, she saw that sweet figure in the white and blue outfit.
She froze. Su Yu seemed to sense something and turned, looking back.
Shi Xueqian quickly moved to the side, waited a moment, and then stepped out of the shadows, watching that figure until it disappeared from sight.
She returned to her desk and sat down, her fingertip tracing a circle on the surface. “This time, will you leave?”
The sun set, and the moon rose.
Buzz, buzz—
The phone’s vibration was particularly jarring in the silent room. Shi Xueqian looked up in a daze. Her eyes fell on the bag of emergency medicine Su Yu had bought today. She took off her headphones, ignored the continuously vibrating phone, picked up the bag, and placed it on the bookshelf.
The 30-second alarm vibrated until it stopped on its own. The next second, the phone started ringing again.
She answered. A neutral, middle-aged male voice came from the other end. “Miss, it’s time to go home.”
Shi Xueqian: “I’ll be right out.”
At the south gate of the campus, Shi Xueqian stepped out and saw the driver who took her to and from school every day. When she approached, he immediately walked to the back seat and opened the door, as polite as ever.
“Good evening, my dear sister.”
Shi Xueqian, who was about to get in the car, froze.
Inside the car, Xu Yan was tilting her head, a very sweet smile on her face, and raised a hand to wave at her.
After leaving the study room, Su Yu’s first thought was to find Jiang Nianyi. When she arrived at the empty art studio, she remembered that the three of them had planned to go to the beach that weekend, each bringing the person they liked. But since her repeated pleas to Shi Xueqian failed, she chose to stay with Shi Xueqian in the library.
Unfortunately, now…
Her phone vibrated twice.
It was a photo from Jiang Nianyi with the girl Qin Shuangyuan liked.
Jiang Nianyi: This is the most awkward photo I’ve ever taken in my life!
It’s just a photo! Qin Shuangyuan stared at me like a grim reaper!
The thing is, I didn’t even want to take the photo!
She was the one who kept pulling me and saying we should take a photo together.
Yu Yu, I’ve been wronged. Wuu wuu.
Yu Yu, I miss you so much.
Yu Yu, please come quickly, okay? Bring Professor Shi along, too!
Su Yu walked over and sat on the sofa.
Su Yu: I can’t. She kicked me out.
Jiang Nianyi:
!!!
How is your love life already so full of ups and downs before you’ve even started?
And then what?
You just… got kicked out that easily?
Su Yu:
Kind of.
But in my sister’s words, this is called ‘retreating to advance.’
The night she found out Shi Xueqian had deliberately taught her the wrong pronunciations, she talked to her sister, Su Yao. Today’s act was Su Yao’s idea.
Jiang Nianyi:
So what are you going to do now?
Do you want to come here?
Just fly your private jet over. It’ll be a nice change of scenery.
The phone spun in her fingers twice. Su Yu thought for a moment and then stopped it.
Su Yu:
Never mind.
I’ll go stay at my sister’s for two days.
After that, she went home, picked a random pink sports car from the garage, and drove through the city.
She stopped at a high-end residential area, swiped her face, and was let in. She parked the car in the underground garage. The building had one apartment per floor, and Su Yu took the elevator directly to the 16th floor.
She used her fingerprint to open the door and walked in.
Su Yao was sitting comfortably on the sofa, dressed in a white shirt and wide-legged suit pants. The top two buttons of her shirt were undone, revealing her beautiful, smooth collarbone. Her long legs were crossed, and she wore a pair of rimless blue light glasses, reviewing documents on her iPad.
Su Yu walked over and threw herself into her arms, like a little animal, nuzzling her neck and shoulders.
Su Yu was the only one who dared to do this to Su Yao. Su Yao kept her eyes on her iPad and reached out a hand to pat her sister’s head, but before she could, she heard a clatter.
The sound of a glass cup shattering on the floor.
Both sisters looked up at the source of the sound. A beautiful woman with long, wavy hair, wearing a white shirt that only covered her butt and nothing else on the bottom, was looking at them in astonishment.
The broken glass was at her feet.
The beauty was the first to react. She quickly said, “I’m sorry, I’m disturbing you two.”
She quickly retreated back into the room.
The two sisters looked at each other in unspoken understanding. One had a look of helplessness, and the other had a look of pure curiosity.
Su Yu: “Sister? You’re not, are you? Having a one-night stand?”
Su Yao flicked her sister’s imaginative head. “That’s your future sister-in-law. She must have misunderstood. I’m going to go explain and comfort her. You can entertain yourself for a bit.”
Future sister-in-law?
Su Yu watched the door open and close. She took two steps away, then shrank back.
Never mind, never mind. Don’t listen to things you shouldn’t…
After who knows how long, Su Yao returned. Her perfectly buttoned white shirt was a little messy, and there was a faint bite mark on her lip.
Su Yu stared at her, her lips curving into a smile. “My future sister-in-law is quite wild, isn’t she?”
Su Yao touched her lip and laughed, a mix of helplessness and doting. “That’s what’s so cute about her. But let’s not talk about her. Why did you come to see me?”
Su Yu was very interested in her future sister-in-law. “Is she the new subordinate you mentioned before, the one who’s very stubborn and serious about her work, the one you couldn’t get through to?”
Su Yao seemed to remember something, and the smile on her lips grew wider. She nodded. “She’s very cute.”
Su Yu sighed and leaned against the back of the sofa. “Congratulations, Sister. You’ve finally found your true love.”
Su Yao saw her expression and roughly knew what had happened.
That night, Su Yao had given her two suggestions: first, use her own story to pique Shi Xueqian’s curiosity about her, and if that didn’t work, then confront her, using a strategy of ‘retreating to advance.’
She sat down on the sofa and patted Su Yu’s head. “What are you thinking about now?”
Su Yu didn’t hide it. “I’m thinking about Professor Shi.”
“You have to take it slow with your professor. Just like I said before, sometimes you can’t chase a person too hard. You have to give her time and space to understand her own feelings.”
“From now on, you’ll just hang around her without seeming to. You can’t take the initiative, but you have to create opportunities for her to take the initiative.”
Su Yao sighed. “Honestly, your sister-in-law hasn’t completely opened up to me yet either. If she had, she wouldn’t have run away when she saw that just now.”
Su Yu sighed. “Sister, don’t we sound like a pair of shipwrecked sisters right now?”
Su Yao stood up, wiggled her index finger. “My darling is in my room right now. As for you, you know what I mean, right?”
“I know, I know,” Su Yu said, getting up from the sofa. “I’m leaving, I’m leaving. I won’t disturb your precious time with my sister-in-law.”
At the Xu family’s villa.
The car came to a slow stop.
The driver immediately got out, walked around to Xu Yan’s side, and opened the car door.
Xu Yan gave a brilliant smile. “Sister, you must be a good girl and come with me.”
On the first basement floor of the villa, Xu Yan ordered two bodyguards to open a hidden room, and she walked in first.
Shi Xueqian followed her in without expression.
Xu Yan walked around the chair in the center of the hidden room and motioned for Shi Xueqian to sit down with her eyes.
Shi Xueqian walked over and sat down obediently. The bodyguards outside came in and handcuffed her hands and feet.
The hidden room was small, with a dim, yellow light. The vents near the ground let in the pale light from outside, and the blades of the fan turned silently. The room had a damp smell.
Xu Yan walked slowly to a shelf with various tools. Her clean fingertips swept across the metal tools, making a clinking sound. A smile slowly appeared on her lips. “Since my sister is so obedient, of course I have to give her a little reward.”
