You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Jiang Nianyi stood watching her friend’s back, sighing in silence. It looked like she was truly never going to get over her. Resigned, she followed.
In front of the drama club’s booth, the line had already become a long queue. The booth was completely covered by the crowd, so you couldn’t see who was inside, but judging by the scale of the line, you knew without a doubt that Shi Xueqian was in there. Su Yu thought for a moment, then walked to the end of the line and joined the queue.
Jiang Nianyi looked at her in shock. “You’re going to queue here?”
Su Yu gave a smile. “Of course. One must be a civilized and orderly student.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Jiang Nianyi sighed. “Fine, fine. Just queue.”
Under the midday sun, the students in line weren’t complaining at all. Instead, they were chatting with great interest about their looks, their nervousness, about performing, and about Shi Xueqian…
Jiang Nianyi nudged Su Yu with her elbow, indicating with her chin the spectacular sight of the crowd in four long rows. She said with a laugh, “These are all your love rivals.”
Su Yu sighed. “My wife is too charming. There’s nothing I can do.”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but the surrounding students heard it. They wondered who was speaking so boastfully and cast disdainful glances their way, but when they saw that the person speaking was Su Yu, their attitudes instantly changed, and they quickly looked away after a single glance.
Jiang Nianyi boredly scanned the people around her. Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure. The familiarity wasn’t just in the clothing, but also in the person’s back. In terms of clothing alone, there was nothing special about her. After all, the people in front of and behind her were dressed the same, including herself—the standard sweet-girl outfit.
She nudged Su Yu with her elbow, but Su Yu didn’t react. Her gaze was fixed on a gap in the crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of Shi Xueqian. Unfortunately, the people in front of the booth were packed together, practically pushing each other out, leaving no gaps at all.
Jiang Nianyi simply grabbed Su Yu’s head and turned it toward the figure she found familiar. “Look, isn’t that Lu Yuanyuan?”
Su Yu focused her eyes. It really was her. She could ignore other love rivals, but she couldn’t ignore this one. After all, the fact that Shi Xueqian liked “sweet girls” came from her. In Su Yu’s eyes, this person was practically an idealized first love. She had to be wary.
“It’s her.” Her voice was flat.
Jiang Nianyi cupped her chin. “I heard she went to some kind of speech competition before. It looks like she’s back after the competition.” She meaningfully patted Su Yu on the shoulder.
Before Su Yu could respond, a girl suddenly pushed through the crowd, made her way to Su Yu, bowed, and handed her a letter, shouting, “Student Su, I really like you! Please accept my love letter!”
The loud voice pierced the air, turning the noisy scene into a place of complete silence. The heads of the onlookers turned one by one, like in a formation drill. Even the people at the booth felt something was wrong and looked back. Lu Yuanyuan stood where she was, with a look of amusement as she watched the show.
The drama club president saw all the students in front of him turn to look back. After a moment of confusion, he stood up. Su Yu’s figure, taller than most girls, immediately entered his sight. He quickly shook Shi Xueqian. “Qianqian, did I see that right? Su Yu is in our line, too? Does she want to join our club?” Without waiting for an answer, he said worriedly, “Is that student going to be beaten? We’re right here. Should we go over and do something?”
Shi Xueqian glanced at Su Yu, then at the bowing girl in front of her, answering each question in order. “Yes, she is. Yes, she is. I don’t know. No, she won’t.” Su Yu felt an unusual gaze and turned her head. Her eyes met Shi Xueqian’s, but Shi Xueqian’s gaze didn’t stay on her for long. Before Su Yu could grasp anything from her expression or eyes, she had already sat back down, disappearing from view.
“Student Su, I really like you. Please accept my love letter.” The girl confessing was still stubbornly bowed, repeating her lines from before, as if she wouldn’t give up until Su Yu accepted it.
“Who is that? So brave?”
“I don’t know. Are we going to see the live version of the ‘savage Ice Queen’ losing her temper?”
“No way. Before it was always guys. This time it’s a girl, right?”
Everyone was waiting for Su Yu’s reaction. The ways she might reject her—coldly, directly, with harsh words, or like she usually did, with her hands—all flashed through their minds. But when Su Yu finally made a move, no one had expected this kind of rejection. Su Yu curved her lips, enchanting everyone. Her tone was light. “I’m sorry, but I’m not a lesbian.”
Not a lesbian… a lesbian… lesbian…
The simple five words played on a loop in everyone’s minds, and a question immediately popped up: If you’re not a lesbian, then what are you doing here? Was there anyone here who didn’t know you came for Shi Xueqian?
The photos of the two of them being practically inseparable on campus a few days ago had already accumulated thousands of replies on the forum. This rejection shocked even Jiang Nianyi, who was standing next to her.
The confessing girl’s body visibly stiffened. She slowly straightened up and looked at Su Yu, a slightly awkward, almost strange smile on her face. “Student Su, what do you mean by that?”
Su Yu: “I mean that I’m not a lesbian. I won’t accept your confession. But thank you for your affection.”
The love letter was instantly crumpled. The confessing girl’s body went completely still. She looked down and bit her lip. “If you wanted to reject me, you could have just rejected me. You didn’t have to insult me this way, did you?” After saying that, she quickly pushed her way through the crowd and fled the scene.
The main character had left. The onlookers’ minds returned, and they gave Su Yu an indescribable look before continuing to wait in line.
Su Yu was stunned for a moment, then turned to Jiang Nianyi with an innocent expression that said, “I didn’t insult her. I was just telling the truth.”
Jiang Nianyi had a pained look on her face. “Don’t you like Shi Xueqian?”
“Of course I do.” Su Yu didn’t hesitate. The second she finished speaking, she understood the meaning of Jiang Nianyi’s question and immediately followed up, “But I only like Shi Xueqian.”
Jiang Nianyi’s expression instantly changed to one of admiration. She bumped shoulders with her and teased, “I never would have thought, Su Yu, that you’d be so clever.”
“But it’s so noisy here, the senior definitely didn’t hear what you just said,” she leaned in closer. “How about this? When it’s our turn to see the senior, I’ll deliberately ask you again, and you can answer me again. Maybe the senior will be touched, and when she’s moved and feels guilty, she’ll come find you to apologize.”
Su Yu frowned slightly. “What do you mean?”
“What do you mean ‘what do you mean’?” Jiang Nianyi was also confused. “Weren’t you trying to do that on purpose? Saying those things to these rivals is useless. You have to say them for Senior Shi to hear!”
Now it was Su Yu’s turn to be confused. “I wasn’t doing it on purpose. That’s just what I think.” She didn’t think of herself as a lesbian. It was just that the person she liked, Shi Xueqian, happened to be a girl. That’s all there was to it. She emphasized, “I only like Shi Xueqian. I only like her.”
Jiang Nianyi looked at her. Seeing that her expression wasn’t fake at all, she also became serious. “What if she’s never going to like you? Even if that’s the case, are you still going to be stuck on her forever?” Her tone was a little like she was disappointed in her.
Su Yu shook her head seriously.
Jiang Nianyi sensed a hint of wavering and was about to say something when Su Yu spoke again. “It’s impossible for her to never like me. I think she already likes me.” It wasn’t a narcissistic or arrogant statement, but a feeling she got from Shi Xueqian herself—a very strong feeling.
Jiang Nianyi’s face instantly fell. It turned out she wasn’t wavering at all; she was just deceiving herself. In a world full of people, how could one kiss prove that someone really liked another person? But she didn’t make any more sarcastic remarks. She patted Su Yu’s shoulder. “If you ever want to cry, my shoulder will always be here for you.”
Su Yu also patted her shoulder, a very confident smile on her face. “Don’t worry, that day will never come.”
The sun was like a steamer lid on their heads. The long line slowly moved forward. The students in line were all fanning themselves with their hands or paper fans, but their faces showed no signs of impatience. After an unknown amount of time, Su Yu finally stood in front of Shi Xueqian.
