You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
“Shi Xueqian, a third-year student in our school’s Foreign Languages Department. She’s a super academic star fluent in English, German, and Thai.”
The class bell had already rung. Su Yu had deliberately stayed in the classroom, waiting for Jiang Nianyi to report on the beauty. With one hand propped on her cheek, she quietly waited for Jiang Nianyi’s next words.
But no more came.
“And then? That’s it?” Su Yu asked, her voice calm.
“That’s it.”
“No information on her hobbies, clubs, favorite foods, or class schedule? Nothing that basic?”
“No,” Jiang Nianyi said with a helpless look. “This senior, Shi, is so elusive. I used every connection I have in the Foreign Languages Department, and this is all I got. They say she’s a complete loner and spends all her time studying, studying, studying…”
“I finally managed to get one of her class schedules from a classmate, but when I went, I was told that she has special permission to skip that class. I wanted to follow her to get more information, but I couldn’t even find her.”
“I even used some connections to run a background check, but there were no records…”
If even the Jiang family couldn’t find any information, this person’s background was either extremely powerful or very complicated. Jiang Nianyi felt that something wasn’t quite right. “Yu Yu, that senior only likes to study. She won’t like you. You should give up now before you get too attached.”
Su Yu shot her a glance. “I wish you had this much foresight with all your trashy exes.”
Jiang Nianyi stuck out her tongue. “This is different. Trust me, you’ll forget about her in less than three days if you can’t even see her.”
Su Yu shrugged. “It’s too late. I’m already all in.”
“Why do you and Qin Shuangyuan say the same things? Aren’t you being a bit dramatic?” Jiang Nianyi said with a pained expression. “I’m a living, breathing example with a long history of failed love-at-first-sight romances. My bloody history is right here in front of you, and you two still get so naive and commit to someone so quickly?”
“Oh? Qin Shuangyuan has a crush, too?” Su Yu said, intrigued.
“Of course. She fancies a senior in the Character and Image Design major. She said that when she saw the person, it felt like she was shot by Cupid’s arrow. It was ‘destiny’,” Jiang Nianyi sighed. “Destiny my foot. You two are just naturally hardwired for romance. And you still have the nerve to warn me about it.”
“Anyway, what are you going to do? If I can’t get any info on her, no one else can.”
Su Yu stood up and looked out the window. A person with brown hair, wearing a white dress and a small black purse, was walking below. But just from her back, Su Yu knew it wasn’t Shi Xueqian.
She sighed. “What else can I do? I’ll just have to spend more time at the Foreign Languages Department. I don’t believe I won’t run into her.”
To pursue someone, you first have to see them.
Whenever Su Yu didn’t have class, she would go to the Foreign Languages Department. She even ate lunch at their cafeteria, which surprised and delighted the students there. The normally deserted cafeteria instantly became crowded because of her.
Su Yu was a celebrity at Nanbai University. During freshman military training, a few photos of her went viral on the school’s online forums. When people found out she was the second daughter of the Su Group, which held the economic lifeblood of Yun City, it completely shattered Su Yu’s dream of a peaceful campus life.
People constantly found all kinds of excuses to surround her, much to her annoyance.
Later, when Jiang Nianyi asked for her help in teaching her first scumbag ex a lesson, Su Yu took the opportunity to have Jiang Nianyi film her confronting him. The rumor spread that the guy was just trying to get her contact information and got a severe beating for it. This earned her the nickname “Feisty Yu Beauty of Nanbai.” Since then, anyone who wanted to approach her would think twice.
Su Yu was very happy with this result.
But now, Su Yu sat in the Foreign Languages Department’s cafeteria, her black princess-cut hair falling over her shoulders. She wore a red strapless top, a black leather skirt, and red combat boots. Her long, straight legs were stretched out under the table. She rested her head in her hand, bored, and looked at the students who only dared to watch her from a distance. She felt a little frustrated.
She was hoping she could get some information about Shi Xueqian from them.
Jiang Nianyi sat across from her, looking equally distressed. The food at this cafeteria was… terrible. After eating it for a week, she was about to forget what normal food tasted like. “Yu Yu, let’s not come here tomorrow. We’ve been here for a week, and Senior Shi hasn’t shown up. She’s not coming here.”
As soon as she spoke, she saw her friend’s eyes suddenly light up like the sun bursting through dark clouds.
She followed her friend’s gaze and saw a figure in white appear at the cafeteria entrance. She had naturally voluminous, cool-toned brown hair and amber-colored phoenix eyes with a hint of a world-weary look. She wore white wired earphones and exuded an aura that said, “keep your distance,” like a cold moon hanging in the night sky.
“Oh my god, is Senior Shi here at the cafeteria?”
“It’s really her! What’s going on? She never comes to this cafeteria.”
Shocked murmurs from the surrounding students reached Jiang Nianyi’s ears. At this moment, she had only one thought: no wonder her friend had fallen in love at first sight and turned into a hopeless romantic.
That aura, that face—she was the best of the best.
She turned to look at her friend. Huh? Where’d she go?
Well, she’d become Shi Xueqian’s exclusive little shadow.
The exclusive little shadow, Su Yu, stood behind her target and lightly tapped her on the back.
Shi Xueqian turned around and saw the bold and beautiful face so close to her that for a moment, she forgot how to breathe.
Su Yu motioned for her to take out her earphones, but when she got no response, she reached out and pulled one of the earbuds out. “Excuse me, senior, did I scare you?” she asked with a sweet smile.
Shi Xueqian snapped back to reality. “No.”
“That’s good. I’d feel so bad if I scared you.” Su Yu smiled and tilted her head.
Shi Xueqian took back her earbud. “Can I help you?”
Su Yu nodded and gestured toward the food counter. “Senior, I’m a freshman, and this is my first time in this cafeteria. Could you recommend something?”
Shi Xueqian looked up, stared at her for two seconds, then lowered her gaze. She said matter-of-factly, “Sorry, this is my first time here, too. You should ask someone else.”
With that, she turned around. In a place Su Yu couldn’t see, her fingers clenched tightly around her skirt.
As Shi Xueqian left the line with her tray, the cafeteria became restless. A bold student stood up and called out, “Senior, there’s a spot here!”
“Senior, my spot by the window is great for air!”
“Senior…”
With “senior” filling her ears, Jiang Nianyi looked at her spineless friend, who was still acting as a little shadow. But her sweet demeanor from a moment ago was gone, replaced by a pure, harmless smile.
“Who is that person behind Senior Shi? She’s so beautiful! Her aura is amazing! She’s totally my type!”
“You don’t know her? She’s Su Yu, a freshman in the Drama Department. She’s pretty, but I’d advise you to stay away from her.”
Jiang Nianyi strongly agreed with the last sentence. Those who knew Su Yu knew that she had used that harmless smile to make her exes beg for mercy on their knees.
“Am I the only one who’s curious about their relationship?”
“Didn’t they say she was here to chase someone? Could that person be Senior Shi?”
“I think so. Su Yu only ever has people flocking to her. When have you ever seen her take the initiative to talk to someone?”
Shi Xueqian nodded slightly at the enthusiastic students and walked over to the seat next to Jiang Nianyi!
Jiang Nianyi: !!!
She was sitting only a foot away from Su Yu’s spot!
Was this intentional or just a coincidence?
Oh, it was a coincidence.
Shi Xueqian sat down and started eating, completely unbothered by who was next to her.
Su Yu immediately sat in the seat across from her, hands clasped on the table. She gave a perfectly timed, comfortable smile. “Hello, senior. Can I get to know you? I really want to meet you.”
All eyes, which had been subtly on them, immediately focused. There were gasps of awe, surprise, and anticipation.
Shi Xueqian looked up, her voice flat. “Junior, you’re interrupting my meal.”
“I win the bet! I told you Senior Shi would reject her!”
“So what do you think Feisty Yu Beauty’s reaction will be?”
“I’ll bet a spicy strip of jerky that she’ll grab Senior Shi’s collar and force her to add her contact info!”
Many students agreed with this guess.
Su Yu’s expression faltered for a moment. She stood up and returned to her seat.
Students watching the drama: ???
That’s it?
Everyone was disappointed that the encounter had ended so tamely. Just as they were about to go back to eating, the person who had just returned to her seat stood up again and, carrying her tray, sat back down across from Shi Xueqian.
Students watching the drama: ???
Compared to Su Yu’s nonchalant attitude after being rejected, her persistence after being rejected was even more shocking!
This was… not the Feisty Yu Beauty they knew!
Jiang Nianyi, who had just extended a comforting hand to her friend who was no longer there: …
Shi Xueqian stared at the person who had sat down across from her, completely unbothered. She was stunned for a second, but quickly returned to her composure. Su Yu wore that same comfortable smile and said sincerely, “I was too abrupt. I interrupted your meal. Let’s talk after you finish eating.”
Shi Xueqian looked away without saying anything, eating quietly as if no one else was there. On the surface, she was calm, but inside, a storm was brewing.
If you looked closely, her hand holding the chopsticks was trembling slightly.
“Senior, are you nervous?” Su Yu tilted her head slightly, her gaze seemingly casually moving from Shi Xueqian’s hand to her face. She asked in a deliberate tone, “Does my being here make you nervous?”
It wasn’t nervousness, but excitement.
Shi Xueqian looked up and met her smiling eyes. “If I say yes, will you leave?”
Su Yu raised an eyebrow, leaned in, and whispered so only the two of them could hear, “Senior, if you had said, ‘Could you please leave?’, I would have thought you genuinely wanted me to leave. But…”
“Senior asked, ‘Will you leave?’. It sounds… like you’re afraid I’ll leave.”
Shi Xueqian calmly met her gaze. “Don’t twist my words.”
Su Yu sat up straight, her fingers interlaced on the table, propping up her chin as she stared at her. She answered her question directly, “Of course, I won’t leave. I’ve been waiting here for a week just to see you, senior. How could I leave without getting anything?”
