You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Come with me.”
Shi Xueqian walked to a secluded corner and stopped.
The little shadow, Su Yu, glanced around, her expression one of barely suppressed excitement. “What do you want to talk about, senior?”
Shi Xueqian turned around, her eyes fixed on Su Yu’s sweet smile. “You didn’t actually think I was trying to help you fit in during class, did you?”
“No,” Su Yu said, her sweet smile never wavering. “I knew you were doing it on purpose. You wanted to make me back down, right?”
“If you knew that, then why…”
“I’m following my heart,” Su Yu said without a care. “My choice is to move forward despite the difficulty. Can’t you just give me a chance, senior?”
“A chance?” Shi Xueqian’s gaze was indifferent as it rested on Su Yu’s face. “Don’t you know that what happened just now made things very difficult for me?”
The “what happened just now” referred to the incident with Cheng Ling.
Shi Xueqian placed her books on the windowsill. She picked up Su Yu’s class schedule, held it up, and tore it in front of her.
Riiiip—
The smile on Su Yu’s face froze.
The whole sheet of paper ripped into four pieces, then was thrown into a nearby trash can.
The wind from the window lifted a few scraps of paper, which swirled in the air for a moment before slowly falling to the floor.
Occasionally, the sounds of students’ chatter echoed down the hallway, but this small corner seemed to be frozen in time.
“I really don’t want to see you,” Shi Xueqian said, staring at Su Yu. Her voice was cold. “Don’t make me hate you more.”
“More?” Su Yu glanced at the trash can, then placed her books on the windowsill, stacking them on top of Shi Xueqian’s. She looked up and took a step closer. “Besides hating me for following you, what else about me do you hate, senior?”
Shi Xueqian was forced to back away. “Did you not see me the day you beat that person up?”
“First, the person I beat up that day wasn’t a person. He was a scumbag.”
Shi Xueqian had nowhere else to go. She was backed against a cold, hard wall. Su Yu raised both hands, propping them on the wall, trapping Shi Xueqian in a small space between them.
“Second, you’re lying. The way you looked at me that day wasn’t with hatred.”
“It was with longing, wasn’t it? You, senior, you longed for me.”
A ripple appeared in Shi Xueqian’s amber eyes, but it vanished so quickly it was almost imperceptible. She tilted her head slightly, meeting Su Yu’s dark eyes. “This self-centered way you have of interpreting other people’s emotions is also very annoying.”
“Yes, you’re right, senior,” Su Yu said with a sweet and joyful smile. “Someone self-centered like me definitely puts their own feelings first. So if I want to see you, I’m going to see you. What you say doesn’t matter. But I promise I won’t bother you…”
“I didn’t want to say anything harsh,” Shi Xueqian cut her off coldly. “But you don’t seem to understand unless I do. Su Yu, your presence makes me sick. So I really, really don’t want to see you.”
She pushed Su Yu away and left.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket. Shi Xueqian took it out.
—I told you from the very beginning, didn’t I? Don’t get close to Su Yu. Don’t make me mad, sis~
Shi Xueqian paused for a moment, then turned and looked at the figure still frozen in place. She murmured to herself, lost in thought, “How could I have forgotten about this?”
…
When Jiang Nianyi saw Su Yu in her studio, her paintbrush slipped, successfully veering off course and ruining her painting.
She threw down the paintbrush, took off her apron, and looked at the time. “Shouldn’t you be with Senior Shi after class? Why are you here?” she asked, surprised.
Su Yu didn’t answer. She just collapsed onto the studio sofa with a sigh.
Well, she got rejected again. And this time, it was a substantial, painful rejection.
Jiang Nianyi: “Are you giving up?”
Su Yu answered quickly this time. “No.”
Jiang Nianyi: “Then what are you doing here? Being all profound? Filming an emo music video?”
Su Yu just sighed again.
Jiang Nianyi: “…”
Su Yu looked at her, rolled over, and sighed again.
Jiang Nianyi smiled. “Little Yu Yu, if you don’t tell me what happened, I’ll ask Granny Yuan to come and kick you out of my studio.”
Su Yu stared at the ceiling and recounted everything that had happened that morning.
“Sick? Senior Shi said something that serious?”
Su Yu nodded, her face devoid of any emotion.
“It seems like she really, truly hates you.”
Su Yu shot her a glare.
Jiang Nianyi pouted. “Don’t look at me like that. It’s obviously the truth.”
Su Yu smiled. “If you don’t have anything constructive to say, you can just shut your little mouth.”
She was feeling heartbroken.
Jiang Nianyi obediently zipped her mouth shut.
The studio was quiet. The setting sun slanted through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and a corner of the curtain fluttered in the breeze.
Su Yu stared at the fluttering curtain for a long time. After a while, she asked, “Why do you think the senior is studying three languages at once?”
Jiang Nianyi made a muffled sound with her mouth still zipped.
Su Yu: “You can unzip it now.”
Jiang Nianyi: “How would I know? Family requirements? She likes it herself? It’s probably one of those two reasons.”
Su Yu: “Just zip it back up.”
Jiang Nianyi: “Only the senior herself knows that. If you want to know, you’ll have to wait until you’ve completely won her over.”
Su Yu: “But… what she said just now, it felt sincere.”
She was good at reading emotions. She knew all of Shi Xueqian’s previous rejections had a hint of hesitation. Hesitation meant it wasn’t a genuine rejection, and that meant there was an opportunity.
But what she had said just now had hit her hard.
Making Shi Xueqian feel sick was the same as making Shi Xueqian feel pain.
And making Shi Xueqian feel pain was never Su Yu’s intention.
“To be honest, it would be annoying for someone to be stuck to you without a good reason. But if there were a proper reason, it would be different,” Jiang Nianyi said mysteriously.
Su Yu’s interest was piqued. She sprang up from the sofa. “Tell me.”
…
The next day, Shi Xueqian got out of her private car and immediately looked at the spot where the sweet figure had stood yesterday.
No one was there.
She didn’t linger. She put on her earphones and walked to the library as usual. On the way, people asked her questions as usual… everything was normal.
Except this time, she was running even more behind.
She hadn’t gone to the cafeteria to buy breakfast and almost fell on her way to the library. After stumbling along, she finally made it to the library just on time.
Shi Xueqian gave herself a listless once-over and muttered, “You’re really a mess, Shi Xueqian.”
When she arrived on the sixth floor, she looked at the spot behind the bookshelf. The sweet figure was still not there.
She stared at the empty seat, deep in thought. If she wanted her plan to work, Su Yu couldn’t be so easily discouraged…
After a moment, she pushed open the door to her study room and went inside.
At 8:15 AM, Shi Xueqian walked into the German 1 class. She had not been stopped by people asking questions on her way to class today, so she arrived early. She took off her earphones, looked up, and saw a familiar face.
A sweet face that looked like it was about to burst with pink bubbles.
It was still early, and there were only three people in the classroom: Su Yu and the class president and vice president, who were sitting around her. Unlike the tense atmosphere in the Thai 1 class yesterday, they were all laughing and talking.
“Speaking of which,” the class president said, confused. “Why are you here in our classroom?”
Before Su Yu could answer, the vice president immediately chimed in. “President, you’re behind on the news. Don’t you know she’s chasing our Shi Xueqian? Looks like Shi Xueqian should be here soon.”
Su Yu pretended to be surprised. “What do you mean? Isn’t this the German 1 class? Why would Senior Shi come here?”
Vice President: “You don’t know? She’s studying English, German, and Thai! You say you like her, but you don’t even know her major. You haven’t done enough homework.”
Su Yu: “No… isn’t Senior Shi’s major Thai? I really didn’t know that. If that’s the case, I should leave right away.”
The class president and vice president exchanged glances. They pressed down on the person who was about to stand up. “What’s going on? Did you bully our Shi Xueqian?”
Su Yu looked a little troubled. She briefly explained what happened yesterday and concluded, “Senior Shi definitely doesn’t want to see me, and I don’t want to make her uncomfortable.”
The two class presidents were shocked. “Shi Xueqian would say something so harsh?”
Class President: “From what we know about Shi Xueqian, she probably didn’t want you to be harassed by another Cheng Ling.”
Su Yu cautiously asked, “Really? Then can I stay here?”
Vice President: “Of course. We’ll handle the troublemakers in our class.”
“Are you really chasing Shi Xueqian?” the class president asked after a moment of contemplation.
Su Yu nodded.
The class president shook her head slightly. “That’s probably going to be difficult. Shi Xueqian has a cold exterior but is actually very kind. But we’ve never seen her get close to anyone. She’s always by herself.”
The vice president agreed. “You’ll have to put in some effort if you want to chase our Shi Xueqian. If you’re just looking for a fling, I’d advise you not to mess with her. Otherwise, we won’t let you off the hook.” She clenched her fist.
Su Yu: “Don’t worry, seniors. I’m one hundred and two hundred percent serious about liking Senior Shi.” She leaned in slightly. “I hope you two can give me some more information.”
She sat up straight, her peripheral vision catching a glimpse of the white figure getting closer. She suddenly remembered something. “By the way, seniors, I really love German, but it’s really, really hard to learn. I was wondering if you could help me out and teach me some study tips.”
“Study tips, huh? Hey, speaking of that, isn’t the walking textbook for study tips right here?” The vice president said, enthusiastically greeting Shi Xueqian, who was walking over. “Shi Xueqian!”
She said good morning in German.
Shi Xueqian nodded slightly to the two presidents and sat in the empty seat in front of Su Yu, her gaze never once landing on Su Yu.
“Junior Su, you should go sit with Shi Xueqian. You can ask her anything you don’t understand,” the class president said, sounding very proud. “Shi Xueqian is the top student in our major.”
“Senior Shi is that amazing? I thought she was just the top student in Thai, I didn’t know she was this good at German, too!”
Vice President: “It’s more than that. Our Shi Xueqian is also the top student in English. She’s known as the once-in-a-century language genius of our Foreign Languages Department.” She leaned in and whispered to Su Yu, “You have good taste, junior, liking such an excellent girl.”
Su Yu’s sweet face scrunched up. “Studying three languages at once, it must be so hard for her.”
The class president sighed. “We asked her that, too. She said it wasn’t tiring.”
“Maybe that’s just how chill academic geniuses are.” The vice president patted her on the shoulder and urged her. “What are you waiting for? Go sit with her. Soon, this place will be packed, and there will be no space around Shi Xueqian.”
Su Yu shook her head slightly. “She didn’t even look at me. She probably still doesn’t want to see me. I… I should leave.”
She stood up.
The class president held her chin, shaking her head slightly. “If you keep this up, you might never win her over.”
Just then, a person walked in through the classroom door and headed straight for Shi Xueqian. The vice president grabbed Su Yu, pulled her to the seat next to Shi Xueqian, and said with a smile, “Shi Xueqian, this junior just asked me about a German word, and I don’t know how to pronounce it. Could you maybe explain it to her?”
She poked the junior who was just staring blankly.
Su Yu immediately snapped back to reality. She opened the “6,000 German Words” book she had prepared and pointed to the word for “snow,” which she had circled. “Senior, how do you pronounce this?”
Shi Xueqian glanced at it, then looked at the vice president. “You don’t know how to pronounce this?”
Vice President: “Yeah… yeah, I just can’t remember all of a sudden. You two take your time. I need to go prepare for class.”
She quickly ran back to her seat.
Su Yu lowered her eyes and stared at Shi Xueqian, looking extremely cautious. She slowly, bit by bit, moved her workbook back. “I know you definitely don’t want to see me, senior. I’m sorry for bothering you. I’ll leave right away.”
She said she would leave right away, but her movements were so slow you would need a magnifying glass to see her turn at all.
Shi Xueqian made a sound.
Su Yu’s turtle-like movement stopped. She looked at Shi Xueqian in disbelief. “What did you just say, senior?”
“I said,” Shi Xueqian looked at her directly. “This word is pronounced…”
The perfect, beautiful pronunciation flowed from her full lips. Su Yu’s face lit up with joy. She repeated it twice, then suddenly remembered something. Her happy expression quickly fell, and she looked like she wanted to say something but was hesitant. “Senior, are you… still mad at me?”
Shi Xueqian didn’t answer right away.
“I see. I won’t bother you anymore.” She resumed her slow, turtle-like movements.
Shi Xueqian tugged at the pages of her book and slowly said, “I’m not mad.”
Su Yu immediately leaned in, her sweet face full of expectation. “What did you say, senior?”
Shi Xueqian shot her a glance and pushed her away with one hand. “I didn’t say anything.”
“Yes, you did,” Su Yu insisted, leaning in again. “I heard you.”
Shi Xueqian glared at her. “You just heard me, didn’t you?”
Su Yu: “I just heard you say something, but I didn’t hear what it was. Say it again, please, senior~”
