You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Ding-a-ling—
Shi Xueqian pushed the person who was getting closer away from her. “Class is starting, stop messing around.”
“Okay, I’ll be good,” Su Yu said, quickly sitting up straight. She placed her hands on the desk like a grade-schooler. “I promise not to bother you while you study.”
Su Yu took out a piece of paper, wrote a few words in a flourish, and pushed it toward Shi Xueqian.
The recipient of the note remained unmoved.
Su Yu lightly poked her arm.
Shi Xueqian still didn’t move.
She poked her arm again. “Senior~”
Shi Xueqian finally took the note.
—Senior, I heard you say you’re not mad anymore. You have to keep your word~
The note was pressed under a thick German textbook. Su Yu glanced at her, then stopped playing around and began to study her German vocabulary.
The atmosphere in the German translation class was completely different from the Thai class yesterday. The German teacher was a male foreigner who was very serious and liked to call on students to answer questions. If you answered well, you would be praised. If you answered poorly, you would be lectured.
Shi Xueqian was called on to answer questions very frequently, and she received a lot of praise.
Seeing her sit down, Su Yu pushed her paper over. Shi Xueqian glared at her, quickly took the note back, wrote a few words, and pushed it back again.
Su Yu lightly shook her arm. “Senior~ I promise this will be the last one this class!”
Shi Xueqian took it. Her eyes widened slightly. The note had a silhouette of her answering a question with a serious expression. Even though it was just a silhouette, it was clearly Shi Xueqian. It was also marked with “blingbling” and little golden stars. Below the silhouette was a cute, sweet chibi drawing of a little girl, surrounded by pink hearts.
—Senior, you even look cute when you’re “fierce”~ (Chibi girl giving a kiss)
A small smile involuntarily appeared on Shi Xueqian’s lips. She quickly realized what she was doing and turned to look at Su Yu, who was putting on an act of being hit in the heart and slowly collapsing onto her desk.
Su Yu slowly opened one eye, made a heart shape with her hand, and mouthed a few words. Shi Xueqian knew what she was saying.
—I’m so in love with your smile~
Shi Xueqian looked away, composed herself, and focused on the class.
Su Yu sat up straight, a keen awareness of a gaze on her. This was the third time. She looked around but only saw students who were focused on their classes.
When the bell rang, a few students came to ask Shi Xueqian questions. Su Yu glanced at her, quietly packed her things, and left.
Shi Xueqian looked at her back as she left, then lowered her head to explain a problem to a student.
The last one was a girl with pigtails and a few freckles under her eyes. She sat directly in the spot where Su Yu had been. She looked shy but was very bold with her actions. Whether intentional or not, her entire upper body was almost pressed against Shi Xueqian’s.
Shi Xueqian subtly moved away and briefly explained her problem. The girl excitedly hugged Shi Xueqian. “Thank you so much! I get it!” She rubbed her head against Shi Xueqian’s shoulder.
The girl looked up, her eyes sparkling with a strange light, but her smile was still shy.
Shi Xueqian tried to break free, but she couldn’t. This seemingly thin girl had so much strength. Just as she was about to speak, she was interrupted by a familiar voice.
“Senior, I have a question for you, too.”
She looked up and saw Su Yu standing at the classroom door. Her face held her usual sweet smile as she spoke, but her gaze was not on her.
The person hugging her shivered, let go, thanked Shi Xueqian twice, and hurried away through the back door of the classroom, avoiding the front door where Su Yu was.
Su Yu glanced at the departing figure. The moment Shi Xueqian looked at her, she put on a pathetic face and walked over. “Who was that? Are you two close?”
Shi Xueqian: “I don’t know her name. We’re not close.”
Su Yu stood in front of Shi Xueqian, cupping her face in her hands on the desk. “She’s not close to you, but she can hug you? I’m so jealous.”
Shi Xueqian was packing her things. “She was just excited that she understood the problem.”
“I don’t care,” Su Yu said, holding out her arms playfully. “I want a hug, too.”
It was the kind of expression that would melt anyone’s heart.
Shi Xueqian looked at her, put on her backpack, and walked out.
Su Yu sighed helplessly and chased after her. She smiled and leaned toward Shi Xueqian. “Senior, can I come to you whenever I have a question?”
Shi Xueqian didn’t stop. “No.”
Su Yu: “Why?”
Shi Xueqian answered concisely. “Your intentions aren’t pure.”
“Aww! But the people who come to ask you questions obviously have bad intentions, too!” Su Yu said, feeling wronged.
“No, they’re just asking for help with their problems.”
“Huh?” Su Yu asked, incredulous. “Senior, do you really think they’re just here to ask for help?”
“Yes. Not everyone is like you…” Shi Xueqian stopped herself in time.
Su Yu took a step forward, stopping her. She leaned in with a smile. “Like me… like what? Huh? Senior, you can’t just stop in the middle of a sentence.”
Shi Xueqian looked at her as she approached, not dodging or moving away. “I was just thinking that you’re not the first person to pursue me so passionately. Most of them can’t handle being rejected again and again. It’s just a passing fancy, so I usually don’t take it seriously.”
They were so close their breaths mingled and their hair intertwined.
Su Yu’s gaze lingered on Shi Xueqian’s full, rosy lips, then on the tip of her pink tongue. Her throat bobbed as she slowly asked, “Then, senior, what would make you believe that I truly like you?”
“I don’t know,” Shi Xueqian said, gently scratching her chin. “I think the answer to that question will need time to prove. What do you think?”
“I think you’re right, senior. Let’s let the future handle the future,” Su Yu said, trying to get closer to touch her nose, but Shi Xueqian dodged her. “No matter what, my decision right now is that I won’t stop until you’ve fallen in love with me.”
“I can’t interfere with your decision, but I’ve already said all I need to say,” Shi Xueqian said, pushing her away and continuing to walk.
Su Yu stood there for a second, then quickly ran to catch up. Before she could speak, Shi Xueqian said, “Don’t follow me. I won’t agree to anything you ask.”
“You’re so patient and gentle with everyone else,” Su Yu muttered, keeping pace with her. “But with me, it’s always no this, no that. We’re both juniors, how can you play favorites like this? I’m so sad.”
“Performance majors only need to study English. You got a perfect score on your English college entrance exam. I don’t think I can help you with that,” Shi Xueqian paused. “Besides, we have different majors.”
And she wouldn’t be able to help with anything else.
“Senior, how did you know my college entrance exam score and my major?” Su Yu’s sadness vanished, replaced by an unconcealed excitement. “Senior, were you secretly looking me up?”
Shi Xueqian gave her a look, her expression unchanged. “No, it’s common knowledge.” In other words, it was all in the rumors about Su Yu.
“I’m so sad,” Su Yu said, pouting and clutching her chest. “Can’t you just pretend to humor me? I’d be so happy even if it was a lie.”
Shi Xueqian stopped, turned to face Su Yu, and used her hand to lift her chin. “Su Yu, what do you think you look like?”
Shi Xueqian’s fingers were cold, which felt surprisingly good in the warm weather. Su Yu rubbed her chin against her palm and smiled. “I’m only a little behind you, but I’m more than enough for everyone else!”
“If you know you’re beautiful, then you should also know that with a face like yours, there are plenty of people who would be willing to humor you. Why are you so attached to someone who won’t?”
“Are you saying you acknowledge my good looks?” Su Yu straightened Shi Xueqian’s hand, placed her chin in her palm, and looked at her sincerely. “But I only want you to humor me. I only like you. I don’t like anyone else.”
Shi Xueqian curled her fingers and scratched her chin, her eyes fixed on Su Yu. She slowly curled her lips into a smile. “I only humor my girlfriend. Are you my girlfriend? Hm?”
Her peachy eyes were slightly curved, and her gaze seemed to hold a pool of spring water. Su Yu was stunned for a moment, then reacted and grabbed her wrist. “If you want me to be, I can be.”
Shi Xueqian gave a fake laugh. “I don’t want you to be. Let go.”
Su Yu obediently let go. She stood there, then suddenly remembered something and hit herself on the head. Su Yu, Su Yu, you’re becoming an idiot! Not only are you being led by the nose, but she’s also stolen your soul!
If Shi Xueqian were that easy to win over, she wouldn’t be chasing her like this!
Her goal right now was to get Shi Xueqian to agree to teach her German so she would have an excuse to be by her side!
But all of Shi Xueqian’s actions just now seemed to be hinting at something.
She shook her head. Forget it, I’ll think about that later.
Su Yu ran to catch up. “Senior, I can handle English, but my German is bad. I really love German, and after auditing today’s class, I want to learn it even more. But it’s so hard to learn on my own. Can you really not teach me?”
She looked incredibly pitiful.
Shi Xueqian stopped. “Are you really just here to learn German?”
Of course not! Becoming your wife is the ultimate goal! Su Yu thought to herself. But she nodded resolutely. “Yes, I really want to learn German.”
Shi Xueqian looked at her with suspicion.
Su Yu met her gaze without flinching.
The sun was high in the sky, and its rays filtered through the leaves, casting dappled light on them. Their expressions were completely exposed to each other.
Su Yu leaned in, blinking. “Senior~ Please, just give me a chance to prove it!”
Shi Xueqian thought for a moment. “Alright. Two days from now, this Friday afternoon, I’ll give you a spelling test of 50 randomly selected words from the first 600 words of the ‘6,000 German Words’ book. If you get 80% of them correct, I’ll believe you.”
“No problem. I’ll definitely show you how hard I’ve worked,” Su Yu agreed readily. “But I also have a condition. If I pass, you have to be responsible for teaching me German from then on!”
In other words, Shi Xueqian had to be her teacher until the end. She could never leave her, unless Su Yu herself decided she didn’t want to learn anymore.
Shi Xueqian lowered her eyes, lost in thought again.
Su Yu looked calm, but her palms were sweating.
Please, please say yes.
As time passed, Su Yu’s heart pounded in her chest.
“If you get all of them right, then yes.”
With that simple sentence, Su Yu’s heart returned to its normal place.
She bounced on her toes twice, unable to hide her excitement. She was as radiant as the sun above them. She suddenly remembered something. She took out her phone, started a voice recording, and repeated the condition. Then she held the phone up to Shi Xueqian.
Shi Xueqian stared at her and nodded slightly.
Su Yu was anxious. “Senior, you can’t just nod. You have to say it out loud. I need to record it as proof, so you don’t back out later.”
Shi Xueqian: “I won’t back out.”
“You never know,” Su Yu said, pausing for a moment. “I’m very clumsy. If you think I’m too stupid and want to get rid of me, I won’t have any way to prove myself.”
“And, senior, you have to say this: ‘I, Shi Xueqian, promise that as long as Su Yu passes the vocabulary test, I will be responsible for teaching her German until the end.'”
Shi Xueqian did as she was asked.
Su Yu was so excited that she hugged Shi Xueqian and spun her around twice. She put her down, a huge smile on her face. “What am I going to do, senior? I’m so excited. I want to take a mile now that you’ve given me an inch!”
