You Should Have Told Me You Don't Like Sweet Girls - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
She didn’t hear a response, so Su Yu looked up again, only to be caught red-handed. Without time to retreat, she decided to just stare back, adopting a “what’s done is done” attitude.
But her expression… was one of pure innocence and wronged sorrow.
Shi Xueqian let out a silent sigh. “I said, that’s not what I meant.”
“Aww, then what do you mean, senior?” Su Yu whined, her face long. “You promised to give me a chance, but you don’t want my class schedule, you won’t give me yours, and you refuse to add me as a contact. So if I can’t find you here, I’ll be searching for a needle in a haystack.”
“You’re so smart, senior. I know you’re trying to help me lose weight with these little tricks.”
Shi Xueqian felt a strange sense of being misunderstood and wrongly accused. “I really, really don’t mean that.”
Su Yu pushed the blank class schedule and her QR code toward Shi Xueqian. “If you add me as a friend and fill out this schedule, I’ll believe you.”
The top right corner of the schedule had a chibi girl giving a peace sign. It was clearly a schedule Su Yu had drawn herself.
Shi Xueqian hesitated. “Can’t you study on your own before the test?”
“Aww, I get it now!” Su Yu’s face looked even more pitiful. “You’re trying to back out, senior. I’ve been adopted for less than an hour, and you already want to abandon me. How could you be like this?”
She blinked her eyes, her dark pupils glistening as if they were about to spill a few clear, crystal tears.
Shi Xueqian: “…”
It seems… I’m the one being threatened here, aren’t I?
She took out her phone, scanned the QR code, added Su Yu as a friend, then took the class schedule and filled in all her classes.
Su Yu immediately took out her phone, accepted the friend request, and added a note: Shi Xueqian.
Shi Xueqian pushed the filled-out schedule back to Su Yu and said, “Don’t mention losing weight again.”
“Okay, your wish is my command.” Su Yu picked up the class schedule with satisfaction and studied it carefully. Without saying a word, she neatly put it into her bag. Then, as if it were a casual question, she asked, “Which cafeteria do you eat at for lunch, senior?”
Shi Xueqian: “Lunch, too?”
Su Yu nodded as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “Lunchtime can also be a precious time for studying. With you here, senior, maybe I can memorize a few more words.”
Shi Xueqian thoughtfully propped her chin up with one hand and looked at her. “Junior, are you trying to get the benefits of being a girlfriend without actually being one?”
Her gaze was flat, not scrutinizing, but it inexplicably made Su Yu feel exposed, as if she had been seen through completely.
She slowly blinked, silently telling herself she absolutely could not be led by the nose this time. At least, not until she was official!
“No! I was just thinking that I might be bothering you a lot these next few days, and I wanted to give you some compensation. Or, I can pay you a tutoring fee!”
Their eyes met in silence, broken only by the occasional loud chirping of cicadas outside the window.
Shi Xueqian looked away. “I usually get takeout from Cafeteria T and eat here.”
What did that mean?
Did that mean she agreed to eat together?
Su Yu suppressed the joy that was threatening to burst out of her chest and pretended to be calm. “Do you eat at Cafeteria T every day, senior?”
Shi Xueqian gave a slight nod.
She did eat there every day, but she barely ate anything besides breakfast. Su Yu was deep in thought. “Senior, do you know how many cafeterias our school has?”
Shi Xueqian shook her head.
What she ate, or whether she ate at all, didn’t matter to her, so she wouldn’t pay attention to the school’s cafeterias.
Su Yu nodded. “I see. Then I’ll get some food and bring it here after class. We can eat together here.”
Without waiting for Shi Xueqian to reply, she quickly added, “Time is almost up. I have to go to class. It’s a deal, okay? Wait for me to get the food! I’ll be back as fast as I can. I won’t let you starve!”
The door opened and closed. Shi Xueqian had not been able to get a word in.
She let out a soft sigh. Just then, the door opened again, revealing Su Yu’s sweet and lovely face. “We have a deal, senior. You have to wait for me~”
The door closed again, this time for good.
Shi Xueqian looked at the beanbag chair in the corner, her eyes filled with a deep pensiveness.
…
As soon as the class bell rang, Su Yu shot out of the classroom at lightning speed. The wind she created made the hair of the students next to her flutter.
She was the first to rush into the cafeteria and quickly ordered a bunch of food at the counter.
While she was waiting for the food, her phone suddenly rang.
—The Sweetest Third Princess in the Universe.
She answered.
Jiang Nianyi: “Yu Yu? Where are you?”
Su Yu: “I’m in our department’s cafeteria. I’m going to eat with the senior for the next few days.”
Her voice was brimming with a joy she couldn’t hide.
Jiang Nianyi sounded surprised. “So, the plan worked?”
“It worked for now,” Su Yu said, quickly explaining Shi Xueqian’s conditions.
“Those conditions… it’s like she’s letting you take a test with the answers,” Jiang Nianyi warned. “But you should still get one or two wrong to make it look believable.”
“I can’t do that,” Su Yu said, explaining the condition of getting a perfect score. Then, seeing the auntie with the takeout boxes, she quickly said, “My food is ready. I can’t talk anymore. Wait, did you drive here?”
Jiang Nianyi: “Yeah.”
Su Yu: “Perfect. Come pick me up and drop me off at the library.”
Jiang Nianyi: “???”
The pink sports car stopped in front of the library, attracting the attention of many students.
Jiang Nianyi gave Su Yu a resentful look. “Am I some kind of love delivery service?”
“No, no, no, you’re the witness to our love,” Su Yu said with a smile. “I’m the one who’s the love delivery service for me and the senior. From now on, I’m going to make sure she tastes the best food from every single cafeteria at our school!”
As a trio of food lovers, the three friends had already created a detailed list of the best and worst food from all 36 of the school’s cafeterias.
“I can’t talk anymore. The senior is waiting for me. Go eat your own lunch.”
Jiang Nianyi yelled after her, “Next time, you’re driving yourself to school, okay? I’m really not going to help you again!”
Su Yu gave her an “OK” sign.
She ran to the elevator and saw that it was still on the sixth floor. She waited for three seconds, and the floor didn’t change. She decisively ran up the stairs. She stood in front of Shi Xueqian’s study room, adjusted her breathing, and knocked.
“The door’s not locked. Come in.”
The clear, melodious voice from inside the room was very pleasant to hear.
It somehow felt like coming home to be greeted.
Su Yu couldn’t help but smile. She quickly opened the door, closed it behind her, and turned around, only to freeze at the sight inside the room.
Shi Xueqian was wearing one earphone, and she had just finished the last listening question. She put down her pen and looked up, but she didn’t see the person who was supposed to be in front of her.
She tilted her head and saw that Su Yu was still standing by the door.
“Why aren’t you coming in?”
Her voice was filled with confusion.
Su Yu snapped back to reality. Her heart swelled with a crazy idea at the sight of the new chair that had appeared out of nowhere. She suppressed her excitement and calmly said, “Senior, this chair…”
Shi Xueqian looked at it and calmly explained, “Oh, you said you were going to be here for the next few days, didn’t you? So I asked the staff to put a chair in here for me.”
It really was a chair that had been specially prepared for her!
A private, exclusive chair!
Su Yu walked over quickly, put the takeout boxes on the desk, grabbed one of Shi Xueqian’s hands, and said with emotion, “Senior, you’re so thoughtful. What am I going to do?”
“What do you mean ‘what’…” Shi Xueqian avoided her fiery gaze, pulled her hand back, and pushed a tissue box toward her. “You don’t have to run so fast next time. I’m not that hungry.”
“It’s just that I…” I wanted to see you so badly. She swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue, took a tissue, and wiped the sweat from her forehead. “I’m hungry.”
Shi Xueqian: “Then let’s eat.”
“Okay!” Su Yu took out the dishes one by one.
“Are you… usually a big eater?” Shi Xueqian asked, looking at the table full of food.
“Me? I’m normal,” Su Yu said, standing by the table and tearing open the last package, not noticing Shi Xueqian’s strange expression. “I got all of this for you.”
“Am I… a pig?”
Su Yu finally understood what she meant. She looked up and saw Shi Xueqian’s amber eyes slightly wide, her delicate eyebrows furrowed. She looked completely confused by the food in front of her.
So cute.
Su Yu couldn’t help but lightly poke her cheek.
Shi Xueqian tilted her head. “???”
Su Yu slightly shrugged her shoulders. “Didn’t you tell me to get whatever I wanted, senior?”
Ten minutes before Su Yu’s class ended, she had used her hard-earned contact information to send Shi Xueqian her first message.
Su Yu: Senior, senior, my class is almost over. Is there anything you really want to eat? I’ll buy it for you.
Three minutes later.
Shi Xueqian: No.
Su Yu replied immediately: Then tell me what you like to eat, and I’ll buy what you like.
Two minutes later.
Shi Xueqian: No.
Su Yu:

Senior, do you… not want to eat with me?
Two minutes passed with no reply.
Su Yu:

Senior, are you trying to abandon me again?!
Senior!!
You’re not going to block me, are you, sob sob sob
Senior!!

…
One minute of message bombing later.
Shi Xueqian:
…
No.
I can eat anything. Just get whatever you want.
And clearly, this was the result of Su Yu doing what she wanted.
“I didn’t know what you like to eat, senior,” Su Yu said, taking out the last dish and sitting across from her. Her expression was completely serious. “So I just ordered everything I thought looked good.”
She had been observing Shi Xueqian for two weeks, and everything was supposed to be under her control, like her contact info and class schedule. But the reason she wanted Shi Xueqian to give them to her herself was to show that Shi Xueqian was at least opening up to her a little bit.
But she had no idea what Shi Xueqian liked to eat. Because of her class schedule, their mealtimes never lined up. And when they did, Shi Xueqian wouldn’t eat. In short, whenever she didn’t have class or a teacher wasn’t looking for her, Shi Xueqian would lock herself in the study room.
Su Yu glanced at her pale and thin arms. Her suspicion was very strong: Shi Xueqian almost never ate.
She pushed the food toward Shi Xueqian. “Senior, try them while they’re still hot.”
Shi Xueqian looked a little troubled. “How much did all this cost? I’ll pay you back.”
Su Yu’s motion of serving her food stopped.
The weather in late October was still hot. The windows of the study room were open, and the afternoon breeze ruffled the curtains. The cicadas outside the window were chirping loudly, a little noisy.
“Didn’t we agree that this was my compensation for bothering you?” Su Yu put down her chopsticks and looked at her with a sad expression. “Senior, do you really not want to tutor me?”
“You don’t have to pretend in front of me,” she said, curving her lips into a bitter, not sweet, smile. “It’s okay. In my heart, nothing is more important than your feelings.”
