Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 15
It hadn’t been easy for the Crown Prince to gather information and rush over, only to find no one there. He would undoubtedly do everything in his power to track down what had happened. By that time, if she spread some rumors, regardless of whether the Gu family had successfully retrieved their “son” today, the Gu family would completely lose the royal family’s trust.
Disrupting the royal family and uncovering the truth of what happened all those years ago was her ultimate goal.
The carriage sent by the Prime Minister’s Manor, though not the most luxurious, stood out in this small village. As the carriage pulled up in front of Gu Jiu Ge’s door, a crowd of curious onlookers gathered, trailing behind it.
This display made the Gu family, who already looked down on Gu Jiu Ge, regard her with even more disdain.
The accompanying old servant woman and two maids stood arrogantly at the door. “Gu Jiu Ge, the Prime Minister’s Manor, has sent people to bring you back. Come out quickly!”
They shouted from the doorway, expecting Gu Jiu Ge to come out and welcome them inside. But as time passed, there was no response from within the house.
“Typical countryside rudeness, not an ounce of manners!” The longer they waited, the more embarrassed the maids and the old servant woman became. But to walk in themselves felt beneath them, so they could only console themselves by saying, “Madam Li, it seems you’ll need to teach Gu Jiu Ge proper etiquette.”
“Let’s go in and see what these uncivilized country folk are doing.”
This remark made Madam Li feel satisfied.
“Indeed.”
“Let’s go inside.”
Just as they were about to step forward, a voice called out, “So, the rules of the Prime Minister’s Manor allow for uninvited intrusions, trespassing into homes, and showing such blatant disrespect? Is this how servants act above their station?”
“What nonsense are you spouting?”
“Xiaowei, show these disrespectful dogs their place and throw them out.”
“You dare, Gu Jiu Ge?”
Feng Jiu Ge raised her head slightly, giving them a cold look. Indeed, just a bunch of worthless servants.
“Do it.” With that light command, it didn’t take long for these people to understand whether she dared or not.
Moments later, the only ones left in the street were the Gu family’s servants, beaten black and blue.
Madam Li gingerly touched her swollen face. It really hurt.
“Gu Jiu Ge, how dare you strike me? Just you wait!”
“We’re leaving!”
“Young Master, the people sent by the Gu family have left.” Xiaowei reported, peeling an orange as she spoke. “Young Master, what should we do next?”
“Naturally, we’re heading to the capital.” Feng Jiu Ge had never intended to return with the Gu family’s people.
A month later.
For the first time since arriving in the capital, Gu Jiu Ge leisurely strolled through the bustling streets. The simple, rustic atmosphere, the vendors calling out their wares, and the throngs of people were all new and fascinating to her.
“Make way! Make way!”
“The War King has returned! Make way for the War King!”
Standing in the crowd, Feng Jiu Ge looked at the man on horseback. The War King—she hadn’t expected to see the legendary figure so soon after arriving in the capital.
The War King, who had followed the army to the battlefield at the tender age of five, had grown from a naive child into a hero revered by all.
He was indeed a figure worthy of respect.
“Look out! The horse is spooked!” someone shouted, and a horse suddenly bolted from the crowd, charging toward a child playing in the street.
Oh no!
Gu Jiu Ge’s heart skipped a beat.
Without hesitation, she rushed forward, scooping the child into her arms just as a strong arm pulled them both into a broad, protective embrace.
They were safely out of danger.
“Thank you, thank you both for saving my child.” the child’s mother said gratefully, bowing repeatedly before hurrying away with her child.
Only then did Gu Jiu Ge have a chance to look at the man beside her.
Sharp brows, deep-set eyes, a straight nose, and perfectly sculpted lips. His hair was simply tied back, and he wore armor that accentuated his commanding presence.
As Feng Jiu Ge appraised the man, Leng Tian Ao was also studying her.
